Nope. He has a bit of an arrogance to him. Not necessarily bad but imagine telling terrelle Pryor that he was changing positions since that would be the path to an NFL all pro career. He would have transferred.
High and tight boo boo
Imagine what TP would have done to defensive backs as a receiver in college! No way he wasn’t playing QB out of high school but anyone who’s watched him throw knew that wasn’t his future.
It could be a logical decision, but I dont think Tate has been using a whole lot of logic for the past 3 or 4 weeks.
Already have a Saunders, no?
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
This made me LOL. No chance. Tate is a baller and I truly believe he would have beaten out Fields...with that said he is an absolute immature spoiled kid from a family of egomaniacs and he's been handed everything he's ever had in life. He'd quit football before he'd ever deal with the reality that his size will keep him out of the NFL at the QB position. Mark my words. PS if he is even 5'10 barefoot, then I'm the sexiest man in the universe
Is he smaller than Kyler Murray? Curious since he has not been given a chance to throw the ball much and with being the National HS Player of the year in HS, I don't have any reason to believe Kyler is better at QB than Tate. Where is the evidence?
Come on man.... We have seen him throw and run some this year. Not even close to being as electric as murray. No comparison.
I have no idea where this Tate-homers bought their blindfolds. Tate's arm is at BEST somewhere near JT Barrett's. He's not playing QB in the NFL and this BS that he's just like Murray and would/will beat out Fields easily is absolutely insane.
"Best somewhere near JT Barrett's"
Lol. OK, ignore the tape then.
Kyler Murray is not even CLOSE to being over 5'8". My brother has ties to the Texas A&M program and I have stood next to Murray with his cleats on and with dress shoes. I'm 5'10" on a good day with no rain and my hair is spiked, I was a good 2 inches taller. This is first hand and I was looking down at his eyes. He is SHORT
"it matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.
I took a photo with Tathan at the Army All America game. I am 5’ 11” and i would say i am an inch or so taller than Martell
Did you both take off your shoes?
I tried to takes his shoes off but he wouldnt let me.
Tate gonna start at QB.
If Vegas was taking bets, you sir would be a very rich man if right.
Maybe.... but it won't be in Columbus, OH
I have no idea who starts. However, I see a hell of a lot of respect/confidence being placed in a guy who couldn't win the job at his last school...and that makes me scratch my head.
Fields may be the best thing since sliced bread, but he has not proven it on the field yet at college and definitely not in our offense. Which, btw, none of us really know what our offense will look like given all the staff and personnel changes. (Will Day call the tune or will it be Yurich...or a hybrid? Will it be their preferred style or a much more basic system given a first-year starter, OL turnover and losing some great WR???)
How many coaches in the country at top 25 schools have the balls to pull their successful incumbent starting QB?
The answer is 2. Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney. Dwayne Haskins "couldn't beat out" JT Barrett as a Freshman OR a Sophomore and now he's about to be a top 10 pick. Stop with the silliness that just because he didn't start as an 18 year old freshman, he isn't going to reach his expectations.
If OSU were to sign Fields out of HS, this entire board would be fucking ecstatic but for some reason because he doesn't beat out Fromm (who was a top 10 QB coming out of HS and had success at Georgia) and OSU gets him as a transfer, half this board thinks he's garbage.
Who the hell said anything about garbage. Lighten up. I just said he hasn't proven it on the field yet (27/39 4TD in mostly garbage time) and therefore I question the "he's the obvious starter and will walk on water here" mentality.
I'm very glad he chose us and hope he's a star here. A lot of evaluators sure think he has all the potential in the world. However, I don't see handing him the keys until he wins the job here.
I think you've hit it. Not all 5 stars make it big in college for whatever reason. I can think of 2 recent tOSU players that did not live up to expectations. Maybe more than that.
With Tate gone, he has to beat out Baldwin. I just hope that they didn't promise Fields the keys

You could listen to just about any QB expert in the country who say he's basically a Cam Newton/Deshaun Watson type of player.. or watch the tape rather than just read the stats, it's pretty clear.
Just like it was clear to anyone who watched Haskins vs Burrow in our last Spring game.. yeah Burrow had a better stat line on paper, but if you looked at the throws, it was clear who the starter was going to be.
So far these answers are basically my thoughts as well. Tate needs someone to give him some good advice for the first time in maybe ever. Use your skills in the most valuable manner, keep your head down, and work harder than the next guy.
Ego aside, I’d love to see what he could do as an H-back/slot receiver. Shame we won’t, though.
I've never said I 'hate' anyone because that would imply I had any emotion for them whatsoever.
I would imagine a less explosive Braxton who can still perform a forward pass. We probably already have better options already
I agree with everything you said, however, I do think he works hard. And he is obviously an amazing player. He just got cursed with having the most highly touted recruit in Ohio State history (since such numbers were tracked) transfer in the year he was supposed to take the throne. It's a shitty situation for him and honestly if Fields is as good as advertised, Tate SHOULD transfer. The problem is, Tate has just handled this whole thing about as poorly as he could.
I'd love for him to stay and find a spot on the roster.. but if he moved to slot/h-back he'd behind 2 or 3 others who've been playing that type of position since highschool or earlier.
He's a QB, and I think he needs to play QB at a school who has an offense that will cater to his talents. I feel for him because when he signed up at OSU, we ran that offense.
Don't think Tate would want that - even though it might work. He's been groomed to be a QB for many years and I think it's in him to give it the best shot possible.
See you in Indy !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
And we already have tons of talent at WR and RB.
Not that you can have too much, but I don't think he'd be interested in being the third string running back
Tate has not lost a game playing for Bishop Gorman, IIRC. He also was a highly ranked QB, 4* I believe. He loved TOSU so much he was recruiting for the school with his friends. He has put in his time, waiting his chance, and feels like he has that advantage over Fields. No doubt he is hearing all this stuff about how highly ranked Fields is and that Fields is the presumed starter for next year. That is enough to weigh on anyone's mind. So much so it seems he is starting to believe what he is hearing, and like anyone else wouldn't want to sit out another year or two and never get a chance to be a starter. Ex. Kenny Guiton. I would just like to see Tate and Fields compete and the true better man start.
"The most important statistic, is the number of wins in a season".........Woody Hayes
I would have liked to see the competition too, but neither one of us is getting our wish. I'm not sure what the dynamic was before, but he's not walking back into that locker room to open arms. I guarantee that. Fortunately for us, once hes away from Ohio State, I'm sure we'll hear his version of events concerning the transfer by way of every type of medium that currently exists. Or maybe that's an unfortunate thing.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
FWIW he was recruiting just as hard for A&M before he switched to Ohio state.
I'm pretty sure if Meyer didn't retire, he'd still be the assumed starter. I think Ryan Day had a talk with Martell about his chances with his skillset and the offense he wants to run.
0% chance. Tate fancies himself to be one of the best QB's in all of college football, b4 he has even taken a starting snap.
If he could play another. Who is he going to beat out as a rb or wr?
No one here, this isn't PSU or TTUN.
Tate is a good QB. He’s not going to start at another position, and he apparently was led to believe he wasn’t getting off the bench at QB either, so he’s taking his talents elsewhere. He will be a very good college QB wherever he goes. He’s just not a generational talent like Fields.
Tate is not athletic enough to play another position at Ohio State. He is not Braxton Miller.
He's shorter than normal but I'd like to see him get that shot. I like the kid and hope he blows everyone away!
He'd be great and I’d give him a fair shot if we still ran Meyer's Tebow/Miller/Barrett style offense. I think he’d work his ass off and win with willpower when needed like JT did as well. I just don’t think he is the guy for Ryan Day’s offense.
I just don't think the relationship with OSU could be reconciled at this point. Not that he's "burnt the bridge" but more that it does seem he's made up his mind to leave and seek an opportunity elsewhere.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I think behind the scenes the relationship is pretty frayed to the point that it will be best for both sides if Tate moves forward and goes somewhere else.
Something has spurned him putting his name in the portal whether that be Ohio state and or Tate’s deal but at this point I think it’s not going to work with him here.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
He almost quit last summer, so I think this ^^^ is spot on.
It was time for a lot of change in the Woody, me thinks, and this is part of that change.
Tailgate Fare Historical Archive
“Something” being Urban Meyer no longer running the Urban Meyer offense he came here to run.
As noted in the Skully, he's removed anything affiliated with OSU from his Twitter bio and is following coaches at Auburn, WV, and Miami.
He gone and nothing is changing it. Time to move forward.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Addition by subtraction. No way I want to watch a soap opera with Twitter fingers Tate for the next 6 months.
He's as good as gone at this point. It's a shame that he is not even trying to compete for the job he so strongly assumed he would win. Hopefully Fields gets his waiver because I am not sure how well the team would welcome him back after this, the relationship between Tate and OSU seems to be souring pretty quickly. I don't think he would be removing OSU from his twitter if he was open to changing positions even though he would probably see steady playing time as a hybrid back or slot guy.
Perhaps the coaching staff had a heart to heart with him and told him Fields is the guy or Baldwin is coming on strong enough to make a real push too?
He just doesn't fit the current offense
Why do people think you can just change position's like a drop of a hat. This isn't high school folks or a YSU. This is a talent rich school with elite talent of players the best of the best and you think a guy can just switch to something he has never played before and beat out the talent we have. That doesn't say much for the rb's and wr's on board does it. Braxton wasn't all that great when he switched positions and either was Corny Green in the 70's when we brought in a qb from Dallas Texas and moved Green to wr. Even back then we didn't throw that much any way and wr's were not that elite to begin with.
