...the transfer portal?
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Ooh, my twitters sayin' let's go
Ooh, but my coach is sayin' no

Even IF Fields is eligible to play right away, the Bucjs NEED a third scholarship QB on the roster.
Whoso would be a man, must be a non-conformist.
If Fields is cleared we have him, Baldwin, and chugunov, we can probably make it next season. If he isn't, then we have to get someone else in the room that isnt a walkon.
The issue is you are not sure that Fields will be declared eligible. If he isn’t you would be in a brutal situation. Odds are we have to make a QB decision before we find out on Fields.
Without even looking, I wonder if this is being discussed in one of the recruiting threads?
Didn’t down vote, but to be fair to the OP, those threads are now coaches threads.
Haven't looked at the current editions, and was asking in earnest...it's all good.
I'm all for not duplicating threads. But I'd rather have on topic threads so I can chose what I want to read. I wouldn't expect to go to a read a recruiting thread to see if there is a discussion on this or the coaching changes. I'd read it to get recruiting discussion.
For starters, I think you tell Jalen Hurts not to make any decisions for the next month.
My thoughts exactly 992, or wimbush. Whoever the staff feels is better.
Sweet baby jesus I hope we stay away from Wimbush.

which is likely as once a guy goes into the portal it is rare they come back.
You're talking about for the 3 months it's been in existence?
Normally when a guy decides to transfer he's gone. Going into the portal essentially is him telling the coaches he's gone. That's why he's not in class right now and he's taking visits.
The portal was first used last semester. But, no, I haven't yet heard stories of returning to one's current school. An analysis after this summer would be nice.
There were some portals in doom that had some bad ass guys in them...get one of them and a BFG and we are good.

If Ann Arbor is a whore, what's Harbaugh for going back to her?
This all hinges on Justin's eligibility for next season. Hopefully the NCAA realizes how important this is for the program and expedites the process as much as possible.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
I agree that this should be viewed as the top priority for those involved in the review.
Weren’t there rumblings that Chugunov wasn’t going to return? That could be pretty ugly if they only have two scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. It’s pretty hard to convince grad transfers to come in and be the 3rd string quarterback.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
News to me. I always figured Chug is here for the mantlepiece, not playing time.
Yeah, I would say Chugunov is the outlier when it comes to grad transfer quarterbacks. I believe it was Kevin who said he may not be back for next season, but I could be wrong.
Danny Clark is transferring

I think we need 1 guy regardless, if Fields isn't given a waiver, we may need 2. Going to be VERY interesting...
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Whether Fields is eligible or not i assume it will be a grad xfer. Yesterday this site was reporting we should know Fields status within about 6 weeks, thats near the end of February ie after NSD
I would not commit a 4 year deal to anyone that is left on the HS market
If Fields is not eligible then get the best you can ie Hurts or Wimbush, if Field is eligible, then get another Chugonov level or perhaps find a guy at the FCS level to move up as they wont have to sit out
I would bet they target a QB to try and flip next month. May not be a highly recruited guy but they will land someone.
Go for two only because you can't go for three
Fine, you got me, I'll come out of retirement and play for Ohio State at QB.
By which I mean, I'll play QB for the first time ever.

If Fields has a Haskins 2.0 season next year and goes pro, we would only have two scholarship QBs for 2020; Matthew Baldwin and Jack Miller. That has me a little nervous and I don't think taking a second true freshman QB from the 2020 class will make me feel better about the situation. We might need a graduate transfer to come in either this year or next.
Fields cannot go pro until three years after he graduates high school.
Oh crap... here I was thinking Fields was a RS freshman this year but he was actually a true freshman. I feel a lot better now lol.
It’s like having a farming team at this point, isn’t it?
There is a decent chance Brandon Peters transfers but I have no idea if he'd be a grad transfer or not.
I know this would be a longshot but .... Oregon’s backup Braxton Burmeister is transferring & im pretty sure he would be immediately eligible, also another guy would be Austin Kendall from OU (even though is widly hated amongst Ohio st fans) , I would also say JUCO QB
I think that with the portal and increasing free agency of college football, esp. top level QBs transferring, that teams are going to have to develop preferred walk-ons or guys who were 2/3 stars or starting at the D2/D3 level. I wonder if the days of having 4 top level QBs on a roster are coming to a close.
Good bews... Yurcich did well in developing Taylor Cornelius at OkState (former walk on) into a good starter. Let’s not forget that Baker Mayfield began his career as a walk-on. It requires good scouting and coaching to be able to do this. I think we have that.
You win with people.
And so forth...

i syarted saying it last year when Emory Jones went elsewhere and Matt Baldwin was brought in. I think you need to have a career backup, obviously every other year you bring in a top level quarterback, but every three years you bring in a player that knows there role is a backup. Some kids would just be thrilled for the opportunity.
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
Could see em going out and getting a mid major level kid, with the promise of, come be depth for three years, get to improve as you practice against the best, and in 3 years transfer out if you haven't earned PT and end up better than where you would have, having recieved top notch preparation
I really think Ohio State needs to bring another quarterback in this year...it would make sense to have Four qbs, not counting walking...
When dealing with quarterbacks at the division one level you really need to have plan A, plan B, and plan C. Just my 2 cents
How about Austin Kendall? of basic defense fame.
Ohio born but Sooner bred.
It would be hilarious if he ended up here. I would love that. Decent depth, funny story...
Hearing #Duke is in good shape to land #Sooners transfer QB Austin Kendall. Would be a great fit with Cutcliffe.

Is cut cliff a bench design?
I don't know much about this guy. So, I am mainly asking and not suggesting. But, Winbush from Notre Dame is available. Good or bad choice if we need 2 quarterbacks if we lose Tate and Justin has to sit out.
Not a bad choice if he is willing to come in and compete with Baldwin. He has potential maybe Ryan Day can work with him and make him a more effective passer.
Looking at the 2019's QB's available and there arnt many. Only 2 uncommitted and 3 total not signed/enrolled in the top 20 pro and top 20 dual.
https://247sports.com/Player/John-Rhys-Plumlee-46047798/ UGA commit, may be looking around now that Mathis signed, have no idea his style of play or tape though.
https://247sports.com/Player/Lance-LeGendre-86454/ Another southern kid. No idea anything about him style wise.
The other one available isn't Ohio St caliber IMO. Best offers are Mizzu and Wash St. So another transfer is the way to go it seems. Unless Day wants to ride it out with 3 and possibly sign 2 in 2020.
