13-1, Big Ten Champs, Rose Bowl Champs, #3 in the Nation.
Not bad at all. :-)
Very fitting that the top three teams in CFB in the playoff era finished 1,2,3. Very satisfying to finish third despite the very hard season full of adversity. Let’s take this momentum and charge into 2019 ready to challenge for the Natty!!
Thanks for your very positive take. I awoke very angry feeling that we could have been there had the defense played even at a subpar level.
But your comments are the right perspective. Most teams couldn’t achieve a record 62 against their rival, win a conference, and dominate another conference champion, after a coaching suspension and the media circus it brings, and the loss of the projected #1 player in the game.
bravo 11 warriors brave and bold !
Killr, you're right on.
Aloooha to the Buckeyes!
In spite of the suspensions during August practice and to start the season, and
despite having a defense that was, shall we say, very merciful to opponents,
the team persevered and ended with 3 tremendous victories:
in the Rose Bowl,
in Indianapolis, and
"most especially in Ann Arbor on the football field."

LOL. Here's to a great last season and an even better next season!
Where are all of the ‘rankings don’t matter’ guys?
Rill, you’re right here! ;)
13-1, Big Ten Champs, Rose Bowl Champs, #3 in the Nation.
And TTUN out of the Top-10
Shandy is not beer
add in that we embarrassed TTUN and what a year!!
Ohio is the cradle of football!
Counting the reasons Dan should still be awake...
...not finding the AP among the reasons!
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
We don't sleep around these parts.
It's not bedtime yet. Aloha.
Thats the right spot. Would have needed a 4 quarter rose bowl with about a 4td win to jump bama. Even then, would have pry been difficult.
But I still think we could’ve taken Bama in the first round. Buckeyes ended with confidence and are perfect as underdogs. Haskins would’ve easily outplayed Tua to send a message.
Bama played awful with all their penalties and Tua made so many crucial mistakes. Once they got into a small hole, they started making the worst play calls! It’s like they became desperate when they didn’t need to. On a different day, with Bama not starting the game with a pick six, Bama could have won.
They moved the ball and was stopped 3 times on 4th down in scoring position. If Bama kicks and makes the field goal instead of worst fake I’ve seen in some time, the score would have been closer.
I felt like they should have brought in Hurts at some point. Hurts completed the comeback against Georgia and looked very good. I don’t think Tua has been 100% and didn’t look himself. I also felt like they abandoned the run too early. They were averaging huge chunks on the ground and it would have gone a longer way to tiring the Clemmie D.
Haskins would do the same to Alabama.
This is where I found out who won. Just didn’t care to watch the game. I guess Alabama wasn’t the best team on the planet.
Ohio, the greatest state in the Union!
You can make an argument (although I don't care enough to own it) that if you compare anonymous resume's that tOSU is better than bama. But the constant hummer that the media gives to the SEC is hard to overcome. particularly when the national narrative gets picked up by commentators who AREN'T NCAAFB experts.
Ako ne možete postavljati bez gluposti ... nemojte
Ako vièeš na suce, ti si šupak
Right it's the media's fault
You don't think the SEC gets a free pass? That the season starts with the assumption that the SEC teams are better than everyone else. Yet, results don't show that. So, the ignorance of the media in general is indeed partly to blame. Most commentators on FOX/ESPN probably know less about football than many of the better posters on here. You think Clay Travis knows as much about football as say, NavyBuck? How about Stephen A.? Think he knows as much about football as Tank? Or Kevin Harrish? But because he speaks loudly; the narrative carries forward. You think any of the morons that are on Around the Horn know what the fuck they are talking about when it comes to Ohio State? Do you think any of them could do an intelligent comparison of Ohio State and Georgia as well as Ross Fulton? Or Gerd at The Ozone?
A guy on ESPN said he couldn't imagine how Clemson wins that game. Can you imagine it now? What a tool. I forgot his name, as well I should have.
Will Herbie eat crow for suggesting a (now) 3 loss Georgia deserves to be in? Answer, Nope.
He did play for a certain coach in the 90s....not used to the Golden Age of Buckeye football I suppose.
Dang it Dillon I just wrote something like this. You beat me to it.
And I will disagree with Larenitis and Bishop. By saying Haskins is absolutely better than Clemson’s QB isn’t knocking him. It’s elevating Haskins. Many of his long passes were not quite accurate. Like Cardale Jones to Devin Smith. And I’m not knocking him. He is special talent. He did not play like a freshmen in the slightest last night. He was great and torched Sabans defense.
A fitting finish to Urban’s final season,
Urban probably gets a nice bonus for this.
Just think how nice tge bonus would’ve been if he had his team prepared to play Purdue.
Just think where this team would have been without the maggot media and the spineless Drake, with the GREAT UFM eyeballing the staff and players for one of the most important times of the season. Ya think??????
Must be nice to go through life, never making a mistake, never being unprepared, never being surprised by life, never having anything unpleasant happen in your oh-so-perfect life!! Good for you!
It’s harder thanit looks!
Yeah, final ranking is one of the bonus components, so a nice parting gift for The Urbz.
We are objectively better than Bama in the 2018 season. In another disputed year, our claim was as strong as anyone else's.
The only good thing about The Game is winning it - Urban Meyer
I don’t think you know the meaning of the word objectively.
The highest rated 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 loss teams will be SEC! SEC! SEC!
Every time there are "S-E-C" chants all I hear is "We're-Bama's-B****"
The highest rated teams with 2, 4, and 5 losses are not SEC teams so there's that.
Although it doesn't look like there are any SEC teams who finished with 2 and 4 losses, so that may have something to do with it.
There you go again, mucking up a good narrative with facts, Ron.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "
- Stuart Scott
That's because 5 or their teams finished in the top 12 and they all had 3 losses. Four of those were in the top ten!
Can’t spell Second , without SEC !
"Vitalum Vitalis "
In place of watching the Alabama/Clemson Bowl, I enjoyed a marathon viewing of OSU’s 3-game run for the 2014-15 National Championship, reimagining Haskins for Cardale, Weber for Elliott, Parris/Johnnie for Devin, Terry Mc for Evan, and on and on........ it was glorious.
Too early to say #WEWANTBAMA2019?
#3 for Urban’s last year? I’ll take it with a smile and a big thank you to this year’s Buckeyes. They weren’t perfect, but that’s my team! Cue Carmen Ohio.....
Came for the halftime show - fell in love with game.
Let's make that #WeWantClemson2019! Bama who??
Bama in the semis. Clemson in the national title game. GO BUCKS.
A clear #1 and #2. OSU and Oklahoma battle it out for #3. A quick drop off after #5. Meh fills out the remainder of the top 10 and mediocrity takes it from there.
Considering Urban never got to whip Dabo one time, I see a comeback coming.
Wisconsin should be in the top 25.
Never forget how we got screwed in 98
I'll never say "we got screwed out of the playoffs" cause we screwed ourselves. But, I do believe we would have challenged every team in the playoffs.
Dang! If you're going to down vote at least say why. LOL
I disagree. We hurt ourselves, certainly. However we were objectively as good (at least) as Notre Dame and Oklahoma. We were screwed because we weren't given equal consideration with those two teams and were kept out because the media and mobs thought Urban Meyer approved of hitting women (which is just a lie) and because the lead media outlet with the most pull hates Ohio State in part for being the flagship program of the conference that gives the least broadcasting rights to said outlet.
Fair enough Crumb, I think you’ve got spot on thoughts. I even gave your comment a vote. O-H! Can’t wait till next year.
Can't agree with the inconsistent play, especially against. Purdue and Maryland that OSU was objectively better at the end of the season. No down vote, just respectfully disagree.
I can objectively say that OSU's offense would have done the same thing to Bama as Clemson did. No other team in the country was going to be competitive.
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
But we wouldn't be able to slow down Bama's offense. Clemson had the D to shut them down.
Most likely outcome for us vs Clemson would be a loss in a shootoout.
Maybe. But the team over all rises to the competition similar to how it plays down to inferior teams.
This is the absolute truth, Stpete
Tell me. What’s a better indicator of team quality; their high water mark or their floor. Which one is a better measure of how good a team is ?
I'm glad we were ranked 3rd. I'm worried that if they ever decide to go to a 8 team playoff, it's gonna be 3 or 4 SEC teams getting in every year.. I mean if they are only going to drop SEC teams down a spot or two for losing to so called better competition (SEC TEAMS), the other conferences more than likely are only getting teams in if they don't lose any more than one game.. LSU beats a UCF team who is playing there backup qb by only 8. Alabama gets smoked( or so I hear, didn't watch) and Georgia gets beat by an inferior team. Florida beat a depleted UM team, yah. Auburn was the only team that impressed me in there bowl game and I think Purdue was just happy to make a bowl and when they got down big, it just spiraled out of control.
Only 2 ACC teams in top 25. Ouch
One too many
"If you take it to em and you keep takin it to em , hell there's no question whose gonna win" W.W.H
Syracuse gave Clemson their toughest game of the year. They deserve Top 25.
Not so sure why Oklahoma was relatively close to OSU, but as long as they finished behind I suppose it doesn’t really matter. As badly as Bama played last night, maybe the Bucks had an argument for #2 as well.
How Iowa is ranked I have no idea, but it works for the B1G so I’ll take it.
All in all a wonderful season with some real ups and downs, but a win over tttun, a Big Ten Championship and #3 ain’t nothing to sneeze at. Got your work cut out Mr. Day.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
Iowa is ranked because they beat a SEC team (Mississippi State) in a bowl. Apparently you get extra credit for that since they are all so good.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Seems right.. If we didn't go all lets get everyone a touch once we got up 28-3 and throw the offense out of whack could have run up the score and maybe finish #2.. 2 vs 3 doesn't really matter since we live in a Ricky Bobby world..
Despite the off season and off-the-field distractions this season, that was a great season for tOSU. Rose Bowl Champs, Big Ten Champs, and finishing at #3 in the final rankings. I'll take it!
I cannot fathom how Georgia is still a top 10 team. They got their butts pounded in.... For a third time. Adios top 10!
SEC, and the Smartest coach in football. At least the smartest name.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
And...ranked ahead of Texas who pretty much man-handled them.
We still need to beat Clemson, but we deserved to be in the playoffs. I can't wait to troll all of the "Roll tide" fans in my area. It's going to be sweet.
Also any ND fans or Oklahoma fans.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
ND is 0-4 v tOSU since 1937.
Actually since 1995.
Take it back farther! Last time they played before then was 1936.
Ok, I see where you are going with this, my bad.
Cincinnati should be higher than 24!
Urban is THE BEST big game coach. Which means we would have beaten anyone on that list. Especially w time to prepare!!!
I mean, Dabo might have that crown now.
Statistically Urban is the best. 31-17-1 v AP Top 25.
#3 makes sense. I'm pretty sure they could have beaten ND, OU, and Bama ... and I get less confident as I go on. I'm guessing the run of futility against Clemson would have continued, if they had been given the chance.
I like Army making the top 25.
It’s nice to be ranked in the top 3 at the end of it all and I’ll leave it at that.
The matchup that most excites me early on next season, based on the final poll, is #19 Army at #14 scUM. If Army can pull the upset, Hairball’s head may roll or explode or both.
Dominant my ass...
Start playing similar schedule, quit getting constant extra love from media morons and quit eliminating challenging competition from the playoffs and then talk to me.
OK that was great. Time to look forward.
Do you think that is what the preseason top 10 will look like? (mostly in terms of teams, not order)?
A few “too early” lists have trickled out. Usually Clemson, Bama, UGA, OSU, OU.
Paste it here. Id love to see. Most curious about the B10 in general on that list.
Just added a forum topic. We’re 4 on ESPN.
No idea how Georgia is 3 on these lists considering they have a mass exodus of most of their playmakers...
"I feel ready for whatever awaits me on the other side. I don’t fear adversity. I don’t fear the spotlight. I don’t fear success. And I don’t fear failure." - Braxton Miller
Oh sure NOW they want to rank us 3rd.
Are we sure that Georgia still shouldn’t be ranked ahead of us...you know SEC and all.
AP ?? are they even relevant ??
Alabama was soooo Bad, didn’t see that coming
Alabama was bad, but that is not the narrative on the world wide leader. "The game was much closer than the score"
BS, it wasn't a game mid-way through the second quarter. Tua was exposed, Big Time!
I don’t believe he was 100. I thought they should have put in Hurts in the second half.
We would have beaten , any of those teams fielded last night. Both secondaries were atrocious, Haskins would have hung 400. Bama made the fatal flaw of not sticking with run game. Avg almost 7YPC. Clemson’ s defense was smart by turning weakness into a strength, they showed looks and forced Tua into thinking he could complete those passes. Two ints changed the momentum and Bama was never able to gain it back. With all that said i turned the game off early third. Go Bucks , hoping these new coaching changes have us in CFP next year .
Looking forward to seeing what the "New Look" Buckeyes of 2019 will bring.
Focusing on Penn State !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
Pretty surprised Notre Dame didn't sneak in ahead of us, since sneaking in is what they did all year.
Very happy with the 2018 season overall. We go into a 2019 season that the schedule sets up very nicely to allow Ryan Day to get his feet under him.
Expectations will ALWAYS be high, hopefully he and his new staff are up to the task.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
AP, you can take your meaningless pat on the head and give it to a team that cares.
"Day is like a kid who woke up on his 16th birthday to find a Bugatti in the driveway." ~ Tom Fornelli
Surprised no one else called this out yet...
Big Ten placed five seasons in the end-of-season rankings
Big Ten placed five TEAMS in the end-of-season rankings :-)
UCF ahead of Mythigan! Blue blood my ass. Let that soak in a minute scum.
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
Go home, AP, you’re drunk.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
You should see the Ohio State haters on twitter. The Catholics Notre Dame fans are hot and heavy!
Everybody wants to be heard, and the easiest way to be the loudest is to be the hater
Notre Dame fans are hot and heavy!
Being an independent cuts both ways. Domers must join a conference or be left behind in the sure-to-come realignment.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
OSU finished 13-1, 'boat trucked' M*chAga*n, and won the ROSE BOWL!
16-2 is SWEET!
Texas is still in the top-10 with 4 losses?
And how they gonna put UCF waaaaay down at #11? They stood toe to toe with LSU till the very end WITH their backup QB. The disrespect.
Alabama getting blown out is exactly what college football needed.
It will be interesting to see in the future... but my buddy made an interesting comment once the game got ouy of hand... does this shut the door on bamas one loss non conf champ automatic invite to the playoff. (<— I’m not even saying they weren’t deserving of that consideration before last night). But I think this broadens the committee conversation going forward)
on a side note which will be unpopular, I’ve never been a fan of thinking beating a lower ranked worse team somehow means you would beat the teams that lost to better teams.
Not a huge ND fan, but they finished with only one loss just like Bama, and it was to the same team, and by FEWER points. This after losing several players to injury. Logic would dictate they get ranked ahead of Bama. I’d put Bucks at 2, move everyone else up one and put Bama behind ND.
ESECPN already has rankins out for next year with Bama at 2, Bucks at 4, and they take shots already at Bucks non-con schedule as being soft. And so it begins
Hate to admit I ventured to ESPN for the 2019 too-early top 25 but I did. Saw the same.
Ohio State's OOC schedule specifically called out as week.
No mention of Bama's OOC schedule highlighted by Duke, NMSU, Southern Miss, and Western Carolina. No mention of Bama playing 1 less conference game. No mention of Bama having 2 bye weeks instead of 1. OSU will play 4-straight weeks of P5 opponents twice next year. Bama will play 1, then a non P5 team, 1 then a non P5 team, 1 then a bye week, 3 then a bye week, 2 then a non P5 team, then Auburn. Bama avoids both UF and UGA, playing Tennessee and S Carolina. Bama plays only 4 true road games. Bama has bye weeks before the road game at A&M and before the home game against LSU. Bama plays Western Carolina the week before Auburn.
Yet Ohio State, not Alabama gets called out for having a "weak" OOC schedule that will include a top 25 team. The same Ohio State that only has 1 bye week instead of 2, 5 road games instead of 4, and plays Penn State and Michigan back to back before a potential B1G CCG the following week. The same Ohio State who not only plays 4-straight P5 opponents twice, compared to just one stretch of 3-striaght for Bama. The same Ohio State who plays Nebraska, MSU, NW, and Wisconsin in 4-straight weeks mid-season.
ESPN is trash.
Perhaps they forgot to look at Alabama's out of conference schedule. Duke, New Mexico St, Southern Miss and Western Carolina. Ridiculous SEC bias by ESPN and now that they are also affiliated with the ACC through the ESPN ACC network, I expect more ACC bias to kick in. I can assure you we will hear how much better the ACC is next year.
You would think it would be obvious to everyone including the committee that too much credit is given to the SEC. Sure Alabama was good and deserved a shot but how much better were they than other conference champs. We need a new playoff formula.
First and goal at the five and Arch is getting the ball.
But look at how many SEC teams finished in the top 10!
Uhm...Uhm...Uhm, I believe that, yes...I'm sure that Clemson's win over Alabama was a by a greater margin than OSU's loss to Florida in '07. Don't mean shit, but it does make me smile for a second or two...or three.
If you don't know what leever A does...leever B
Alabama should have dropped like a rock after that non competitive loss last night. This years playoffs were a joke.
The big losses in cfb are more common. With no huddle offense clock stoppages on 1st Downs and efficient passing games, a small advantage turns into an avalanche. And with 70-80 snaps per game scores get uglier.
I’m not comparing Clem to Purdue, but we all know for a fact that tOSU > Purdue and that Clemson isn’t as superior to Bama as the point difference.
So Im not a supporter of analyzing severity of loss when ranking teams. There are no good losses imho.
How is it possible that there are 4 SEC teams in the top 7, including three 3 loss teams (LSU, UGA and FLA) after the way both UGA and BAMA got their asses handed to them. Calling BS
Longer, and Stronger
This is the narrative that is never addressed because $. The SEC had their 2 conference championship teams lose. Georgia lost to a 4 loss Texas team and that game was not as close as the final score indicated. The absolute curb stomping that Alabama took by Clemson. Not to mention UCF hung with LSU with their 2nd string QB and Florida beat a Michigan team that had 80 percent of their starters. The Media narrative for the SEC is tiresome to say the least.
The only true worry we should have about this 2019 team is this:
Why is Sevyn Banks wearing number 12?
Come on Buckzilla. Didn't you hear that Georgia didn't care and that's the only reason for that outcome? I actually heard that argument on TV.
Based on what I saw, I'd have UGA, Florida, and LSU in the top 10 as well. We finished #3 with a 29 point loss to Purdue.
Kentucky beat PSU.
Florida boat raced Michigan.
Not a good outing for our division against UGA's division. The AP poll finished how the final CFP poll should have been if they were putting in the four best. ND was overrated and everyone knew it.. Clemson barely broke a sweat against them... Bama failed to score multiple times inside the red zone, but put up like 500 yards of offense on that excellent D. They're probably in that game much longer if Saban would have just taken the FGs.
I'd have said before last night that #3 sounds about right. For all of OSU's struggles at times throughout most of the season...by the end of the year, they were playing as well as pretty much anyone in the country, but Alabama and Clemson seemed to be the clear top 2. However, after how Alabama got their asses KICKED last night, I don't know about that...there might be an argument for OSU being #2.
In any event, tremendous season for OSU, overcoming a lot of bullshit to win every game but one, beat the rival, win the league, have an argument for the playoff, and ultimately win the Rose Bowl.
Class of 2010.
Lunch is over, i have a little time left... I'll go see what Paul Finebaum has to say about Saban crapping the Sleep Number last night. Doesn't Nicky like to travel to the West Coast??
I will say, Saban is taking the blame.
Glad we are doing well. Now lets take the next step and step into Clemson and Alabama's stratosphere.
That's right, that's right, we bad
The first elite opponent that Bama faces all season, it gets manhandled. Georgia got beat by nothing more than a better than average Texas team...SEC bias on full display. Georgia was supposed to be a top-4 team, and Bama was supposed to be "unbeatable". b*tch, paaleeese.
Fck Jim Delaney for not even faking rooting for the Buckeyes to be included. do your fcking job! nothing more, nothing less.
Clemson, winning 2 of the last 4 national championships. a school that has never, ever won a championship before....ever. there was one "claimed" championship in its entire history. something's not right. yes. this could be coming from a butt-hurt, jealous fan / troll.
But, seriously? Clemson? somewhere in SC? with a total population of 15,000? zero history to the town/city? zero football traditions. what exactly about Clemson that would attract elite talent? all of a sudden, it's won 2 of the last 4 championships. hmm....
This is something I've been too busy to google as well. Why Clemson? What's the story down there? How dey do dat?
thats a fair assestment
#1 NEXT YEAR!!!
Many fans on this look at this final ranking and really think we’re the third best team. I don’t think we’re better than a few teams ranked under us but. Not this year. That’s all for hype and it’s good for college Football because it’s the BUCKEYE$.
I think the Experts would agree.
Now this year, this team may very well be the 3 best team in the country. They certainly have the potential and the star power to be.
Its debatable. Last 3 games I could see the #3 ranking, middle of the season no way, but early OSU made it to 2. I'll take the 3 as a pleasant surprise, I thought 4 or 5 more likely. One thing it did accomplish, Urb had OSU at 3 or higher every year at 10 games or later. Pretty cool for keeping each year interesting at least.
