TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
All I said was hallelujah, I'm thankful he has a new landing place in the NFL and I'm thankful that we have a new LB coach. It worked out for both sides, it doesn't get any more civil than that.
Didn't quite work out here. But best of luck to you sir.
Great post. Keep it classy 11dubbers.

Thank you, Scarletblood
What a very classy way to part company and move ahead.

Good luck in your future endeavors.
He was just a lazy, easy hire. It never worked from the first day he got here. This is a joyous occasion.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
Urban is so lazy... You're an idiot

This needs to be a red banner moment, break out the confetti and party blowers, our national nightmare at linebacker is over
Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not
I hope your right, however, Washington will not be able to cure Tuf’s concrete feet.
Washington has no previous relationship with Borland, and will hopefully favor the combo of Mitchell, Hilliard, and Browning to go with Harrison. I can tell you that he will cure our LBs of walking up to the line of scrimmage and standing still when the ball is snapped thus being out of position to make a tackle on a run or drop into coverage. Hope to see our OLBs blitz a bit more too! Pressure, Pressure, and MORE PRESSURE please!

Keandre Jones seems like a faster, more aware Pete Werner. He makes the same heat seeking missile tackles on ST that Werner made his freshman year and I think he understands down and distance/time and situation a little better too.

Need to replace Borland with Baron Browning or Mitchell.
Classy exit, wish him the best, but I am very pleased he is no longer with the team.
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
Right on, kind of saw the writing on the wall when they announced the hire of Washington but wish him nothing but the best.
Hopefully, some of those opportunities he passed on in the NFL will provide other opportunities as well.
Best of luck Coach Davis!
Say hello to our new (and improved) LB's coach, Coach Washington!!

As an Eagles fan, can confirm he doesn't work in the NFL either.
He was bad in the NFL as well! Must have a silver tongue to get all the jobs he has had. Stats don’t lie, he was bad for whatever team was unfortunate enough to hire him.
Here comes the boom.
Pray for potatoes with a hoe in your hand.
I'm not going to pretend that I understand exactly how these new hires and departures will work out. I can say that I am excited to see Ryan Day making some very big and decisive moves early on.

No one ever accused him of forgetting how to coach linebackers. Such an accusation would imply that Bill Davis, somewhere along the way, learned how to coach linebackers.
Regardless, best of wishes to him and his family.

Hopefully that mistake will soon be rectified! Need to have nine units strong with nine elite position coaches that can recruit, develop players, and work together
I'm willing to bet #firemattison gets going first bad defensive game
Good Luck in your future endeavors Bill Davis!
Hopefully, Al Washington has already reached out to Cade Stover.
why is that? Stover has already signed

Classy response. I know he caused a lot of anguish for this fanbase, but now it's time for everybody to move on.
He owes me 260 bucks vacation pay, and he won't fuckin' pay that, so I figured a handful of chips wasn't too much to ask.
Best of luck, Coach.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass but if it does I'm betting it will be a bigger hit than any linebacker laid all year.

The guy forgot how to coach......had to let him go
Credit where credit is due he did bring in some nice LB recruits but Washington is a step up there too.
God bless and go Bucks.
Billy may in fact "know how to coach",,, at the NFL level
That was what always made his hiring a bit questionable
Coaching in college is different than the NFL, even the rules around RPO's etc are different.
Literally never held a college FT coaching job in his 20+ year career, he may have just been a bad fit for trying to coach college LBs
Good luck to him in the NFL
Thank you coach Bill
Sincerely IOWA and PURDUE
Ouch. Was that below the belt?
WE DID IT.
GREAT WORK EVERYONE.
Did what he could, so best of luck to the guy! Once a buckeye...
Well, Coach Day sure isn't shy about blowing things up that need blown up. Namely OSU's D coaches.
Thanks, Coach. Best of luck to you in the NFL.
You win with people.
And so forth...
9 Units Strong!
the defense is about 11 guys playing as one.
This is the truest statement that is in the article, and the biggest reason for Ohio State's defensive struggles last season. It is no coincidence that both co-coordinators are gone as well.
In fact, co-coordinators might be the biggest misnomer ever when referring to the 2018 Buckeye defensive staff.
These guys are not idiots, they just never got it together as a group.
There it is. Whew!
Finally, some closure. Bueno suerte amigo.
Despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular.
That was a classy farewell.
Best wishes to you in the league.
Agreed, although I was not a big fan of his unit, or ability to recruit, he had a classy professional departure. Best of luck to the guy.
The lord of brevity.
Hey coach, I wish you a successful return to NFL.
Nut on top
Best of luck in your future endeavors. Keep it classy! The entire defense, sans line, was a train wreck.

I don’t know what this is from but if you watch long enough he blinks.
It is always difficult to let good people go. Coach Day is in the process of doing that. He is replacing good people with other good people with the hope that the new good people will help improve the program he supervises.
New York Buckeye
SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!
But in all seriousness, thank you for your time here Bill Davis, I hope you have success in the NFL where you belong.
Definitely a new day, a new regime.
Classy response. Good luck to you Coach Davis!
"Bill Davis and Ryan Day 'mutually agreed' to part ways".
In other news, Megan Fox and I have "mutually agreed" to not date each other.
We can't stop here; this is bat country...
Why would you agree to that?
...I wouldnt, lol. Hence the comparison to Bill Davis "mutually agreeing" to leave.
Can't hate the man. One of the best.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Best of luck in your future endeavors Mr. Davis.
At the end of the day, Bill is still a man who has a family that rely on him and his job. Having to uproot your family and move to the next city, like is so often the case in the profession, has to be tough for all involved.
Here's hoping that Bill and his family land in a good situation wherever it may be.
And for the linebacking group, buckle up. It's time to get back to being the best linebackers in the country.
Good luck to him. NFL is a better fit.
Thank you, Bill, for all the hard work you put in over the last several years as a Buckeye. You caught a lot of heat, which may not have all been warranted, but we wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Agreed. We have no idea what kind of freedom Mr. Davis had in his coaching role. It's doubtful that he had full independence, with two d' coordinators, in implementing scheme and in selection of starting personnel. Regardless, the man is a faithful friend of Urban Meyer's and conducted himself in a professional manner. He deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
Well, you could knock me over with a feather at this news. What NFL team is he going to? I swear, I don't understand how some coaches keep getting jobs despite ample evidence they're bad at their jobs.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
Best wishes to him and his family. The heat was deserved but I hope he finds a good fit in the NFL to further his career.
I have full and complete confidence in Coach Day after this news... BOOOM
Joshua a allen
This announcement should soon be followed by the official Al Washington news.
Buckeyes will have at least 2 LBs next year mentioned for some kind of All American honor....take that to the bank!!
Good luck Coach.
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
Pretty sure the Worley experiment went the other way around; they moved him inside to start the year and then back out. That's how Borland started the last half of the year.
Either way, best of luck Coach.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Exactly! When I read that I was thinking that didn’t sound right. You set it straight.
I wish him the best.....and know this is the best thing for him and the team. I won't revel in this news, since I know what it's like to lose a job at his age, even though our circumstances and paygrades had absolutely nothing in common. That aside, this change was a must and I wish him well.
Good luck coach.

He comes off like a good guy and there is a reason Urban is fond of him.
These coaches and their families earn the compensation they receive. Once a buckeye always a buckeye unless they choose to betray that. I wish him nothing but the best.
That being said , he didnt seem to bring the juice and I am happy that we have somebody coming in that has people excited.
I Hate Michigan.
Clearly, something was missing with the linebackers the past two seasons. Might have been Davis, might have been that he happened to have joined the staff at precisely the wrong moment relative to linebacker ability/desire/heart. Either way, no reason to bash the guy on his way out. Best of luck to him.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
Pathetic that some of you are having a party over someone losing his job.
Ever think part of this is recruiting? And it’s not all on him to pick who he brought it.
It's hard to say, and I understand your point and those of others.
Let's put it this way: I am sure that the guys we couldn't wait to leave town in recent memory....Bollman, Beck, Withers, Davis, Warriner, Schiano, even Grinch, had compelling arguments to support themselves. It's why they usually have a good landing spot. Most of these guys have an elite skill, and for reasons many of us will never know and perhaps never need to know, it just didn't work here. Simple as that.
Saban ran Lane Kiffen out of Tuscaloosa even after Bama ran up x'box numbers a few years ago. They didn't against us and he was given just enough rope to wait until Steve Sark came along. It's one tough ass business.
NO. Nurture and Nature. At a program like Ohio State, as a coach, you are given 4-5 star recruits (that's nature). Your job is to nurture them and get them to perform. if they don't, it's your fault. You get paid big bucks to nurture 4-5 star recruits. not zero stars. If you can't get them to perform, it's your fault.
So aggressive. You have passion.
Okay, I get it -- just didn't know it was that simple.
Right......................................... nothing in-between.....................................................Wrong
The future is bright. Go Bucks!
I wish coach Davis the best in his new job...
wherever that may be.
15-1 is SWEET!
I was watching the national championship game last night and Clemson's D was attacking from all levels. Their players engaged the blockers and shed them to make big hits. They played fast. I think Clemson's whole team only had one penalty called on them all night.
It was like watching a different sport.
This is the one move everyone knew had to happen. All of the other changes are icing on the cake. I really hope the all-new staff on that side of the ball gets things fixed. OSU is a top 4 program in the country, and that is the standard we have to strive towards. Good isn't good enough. Grading so many LBs as Champions when we had the defensive struggles we did....just didn't sit well. This change was necessary.
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s Raymond time
To think we needed a thread just for him and not combined with all the departing coaches on defense... sentiment vs technical analysis would say that sentiment wins big this time. All the best to ya Billy Davis... there is always a field of grass out there for everyone - here's to hoping you find yours well.

Best of luck to Bill, and thanks for his efforts
I actually liked the guy from what I saw when he met the media. It's a performance based job though and our linebackers have to play much better or we'll keep dropping games we shouldn't.
I'm sure Mr. Davis is a good man, but the performance of the linebacker group ranked towards the bottom of the BIG Conference. I know the group has lost some talented guys to the NFL, but you can't tell me that this whole group is a bunch of overrated guys that are not capable of playing at a high level. Poor fundamentals, questionable schemes and personnel decisions have been the problem the last two seasons. Things have to change!
Classy response, Coach Davis, which is why you will not be unemployed for long. Happy that Coach Day kept his best defensive coach and is stocking the defensive sidelines with some new blood, especially since it hurts TTUN as well!
Good luck and future success
Changes were needed. I don't know if Davis performed badly or if Schiano just had bad schemes. Either way it was unacceptable to the fan base. Love that coach Day is owning the new group of coaches, aka - his team.
Win and development of talent is key. Every roster player should be improved continually.
Good luck coach.
never forget us!
Oh no we're never going to get a better linebackers coach! I know this because Urban hired Bill Davis because he was the absolute most qualified coach Ohio State could ever get; not at all out of nepotism of hiring his friend and best man at his weeding.
Best of luck Coach.
Unless Davis sticks a knife in our back later, he's a Buckeye, period. I look forward to the new LB unit and wish Davis and his family nothing but the best moving forward. Go Bucks!
What are the off-the-cuff starting 3? Mitchell, Browning and Jones?
Hate to dance on a guy's grave, but then, he was instrumental in putting Ohio State's playoff hopes in the grave for two straight seasons. Plus, he's got millions of dollars to show for it.
Probably Urban's worst hire. Davis was a career NFL coach who's methods didn't work at the collegiate level. I agree that Baker regressed and with a stud like Browning, he didn't know what to do with him or develop him correctly.
"after passing on several opportunities, and mutually agreed' sounds a little desperate for me to say that was a completely classy exit.. but it wasn't an awful statement..
Good luck in the future...
The one thing I will always wonder is.. if Urban, (with his love for special team performers) might have forced Borland and Werner into the starting lineup...
Davis seemed like a good dude, but obviously his style didn’t translate to success on the field. Good luck to him
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I remembered when hired people saying he had success as NFL LB coach, not so much at DC. But for some reason his LB coaching style didn't seem to work well at OSU, or at least with the scheme OSU uses. Good luck in the next NFL job (assuming it is not with the Cowboys).
I'm not a football coach, nor have I any qualifications to break down film, grade somebody's performance, etc... but what I do know, is over the last few years, our linebacker play has not been what is feels like it should have been!
I wish Bill all the luck in the world, as with coach Schiano! Thank you for your time, effort, and dedication to the pursuit of improving Ohio State, the football program, and the players!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
Buckeye fans a week ago. "I hope day has the guts to make some changes with the coaching staff"
Buckeye fans today: OMG hes going scorched earth!
We'll find out if it's good or bad. (I think it will be good) But one this is certain. He made it clear it's his team now.
Billy. Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out! Thanks for stealing $ from OSU for what was some of the worst LB coaching in college football and ruining the team’s shot at the CFP and ridicule for the breakdowns against Purdue, OK, and Iowa the past two years! I feel bad for whatever team you snake charm your way onto in the NFL to ruin their defense. Maybe you can do college football a favor and work your way onto the statf at Clemson, Alabama, or Oklahoma?!!! I almost (and I mean almost) wouldn’t wish you on TTUN!
There are many great things to celebrate in life. A man losing his job isn't one of them. I wish Coach Davis well and appreciate his efforts at OSU. While he certainly owns some of the blame for the play of the linebackers, Coach Davis is but a part of a larger picture.
While all Buckeye fans expect the defense to play like 'Silver Bullets' year after year, we need to remain civil and not gut put own when that standard hasn't been met. Go Bucks!
Probably was a bit harsh. I don’t take pleasure in other people losing their jobs, but I do believe in accountability. Davis hasn’t been good wherever he has coached. Maybe he was one of several problems with the defense, but his position group consistently underperformed and players regressed under him. LB play cost the Bucks a chance at the CFP in 2017 and 2018 and the “buck” didn’t stop with him.
Drpsychbuck. Thanks for the reply. My post had nothing to do with your post and I had not read your post until after seeing your response to me. I got home late and posted without reading through the comments, figuring that many would be celebrating. Respectfully, I just don't understand that.
We are all held accountable for what we do at work. The proper people, in this case Coach Day, has spoken and it's time to move forward. I just don't see where piling on a man on-line is necessary under any terms and just believe our fan base ought to travel a higher road. As is said, to each his own.Go Bucks!
Let's hope that the LB play improves. Time will tell.
Ryan Day can give him the upmost respect, but, I won't. Good riddance.
Don't take pleasure in anyone losing their job, but when i think about it at the end of the day all these coaches are essentially entertainers. Davis made $500k a year, so no need to shed tears for him.
I think Day just has to make this his own staff. Smart to keep Larry Johnson and Mickey on staff. Would be a fool to let those two go. Probably there is a mix of just wanting to bring in his own guys and maybe he just doesn't get along with some as well as others. I have no problem with the coaching changes so far.
Mickey Marotti is assistant athletic director for football sports performance. He reports to Gene Smith, not the football coach. Student-Athlete Support Services, the Athletic Compliance Office and Sports Performance are independent entities within the Ohio State Athletic Department. Coach Day nor the previous coach, Urban Meyer, have the authority to hire and fire within those departments.
Good Day, Billy boy. Maybe your BFF will let you crash at his Muirfield Village pad until you get back on your feet.
so who thought snail and tortoise ...oops i mean Warner and Borland were the two best LB's ...was it Davis or was it Urban ???
