Jordan Fuller's Return To Ohio State Allows Opportunity To Make “Game-Changing Plays” He Felt Were Missing

2017: Fuller was coached by Schiano. Fuller was our best safety
2018: Fuller coached by Grinch. Fuller regressed.

I hope Fuller has a good safeties coach in 2019.

I'm not sure that's completely fair (although I'm fine with banging on Grinch). Fuller had to make up for the lack of a decent safety opposite him for the first half of the season. I think with Fuller and White as the starting tandem next year, the back end of the D is really going to come together.

Fuller still struggled after white emerged. Dont think Grinch helped him take that next step at all.

I hope the Hooker gets going. If he plays like his brother, we gonna eat.

Marcus Hooker likely won't see the field until after Fuller leaves. He was pretty far down the safety totem pole this year thanks to his DUI suspension and we have to keep in mind who knows what the new safeties coach will be able to do with Wint and Pryor. Not to mention he still has Proctor and Riep ahead of him as well.

Hooker will be a special teams stud and 3rd safety, first off the bench. The kid is a beast invesiting.

Here's to hoping they answer Mike Doss' call!

I agree with his analysis whole heartedly. I admire his ability to self analyze and speak honestly. So many stars try to sell themselves as something they are not. This is a man truly interested in self improvement.

The combination of Fuller and White is intriguing

Full working towards Fuller!!

The DBs need some consistency, so in glad to see Fuller committed to taking it to the next level.

Very humble kid. Glad he recognizes he needs to get his mojo back.

The DBs need a coaching change for sure. Has anyone heard anything about the supposed meeting we had with the LSU coach's ??

I agree with him on not having a season that I thought he would have this past year.

It could have been Grinch????

By mid-season Fuller was being asked to play very conservatively because Pryor/Wint were so useless. I remember early in the season Fuller was flying downhill playing fast agressive and mean. But then the QB would go the other way with the ball and the Benny hill theme would play as Pryor/Wint tripped over themselves to allow a TD.

So it was the Indiana or Minnesota game I noticed Fuller playing very uncharacteristically. He was sitting back 10-15 yards and waiting waiting waiting. It was obvious the coaches told him "if you don't make the tackle nobody will"

Pryor/Wint were so bad it cost Fuller a year in the league. And shame on the coaching staff for having a top-10 rated safety in White on your roster and not using him.

I think Fuller will return to great things and create big plays in 2019 now that he can trust his teammates!

This is a good take and the staff completely botched the safeties this season. Jordan Fuller is in the mold of Kam Chancellor/Derwin James. Let him go make plays everywhere in the secondary, especially in run support.

Kind of hard to make plays when the opponent schemes to pull Fuller away from plays and attacks the other safety spot successfully, like Maryland did. Fuller has to be careful not to get out of position trying to cover for another player's mistakes/dediciencies. If Brendon White and others improve, then Fuller will have more chances to make plays. Coaches need to switch things up so Fuller is not always in the same spot, either pre-snap or as the play unfolds.

I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.

So happy Fuller decided to stay another season - IMO - he really needs to step up and be a leader of the back 7.

That pick against ttun was nice.

See you in Indy !!

He's not wrong and I'm glad he's smart enough to be self-aware and come back to play better and improve his draft stock. No reason with Fuller's ability that he can't be a 1st or 2nd round pick. He was going 3rd to 5th had he left school.

Yep..so basically he is getting paid to play next year if it works that way.

Fuller/White lock down the back end. Gives the entire D a level of security they've needed. Corners can play more aggressively, LB's can flow to the ball and know there's a back end behind them and DL can shut down the deep pass game, allowing everyone opportunity to play closer to LOS. Back to Silver Bullet defense.

Fuller probably had to lay back and try to cover the holes presented by the opposite safety early in the year. It wasn't until late in the season that he could play his own instead of 1.5 positions.

I kept hearing Meyer in his voice.  Meyer pushes that self-evaluation and the drive to be better than so-so, okay, average, unremarkable, etc. It had the same effect on Hyde.  It's a keystone of the Meyer culture the Buckeyes just cannot lose.  Blahblah

Really proud of this guy.

Um, Colin, your years are a little off. Fuller competed with Smith in 2017 and 2018 was the year that we couldn't seem to find someone to play opposite him.

So refreshing to have a player be honest with himself and return to not only improve his skills and draft status but to support his team.  Many think the grass is greener and pursue the draft but don't even get drafted let alone make an NFL team.  Fuller is a wise man!

I love his spirit and attitude.  Seems like he has a good head on his shoulders

I don't think his game was ever considered "flashy" but he is consistent.  And to be honest for the majority of this season he was probably worried about what the other safety was doing and if he was going to have to try and cover the  whole field.

Fuller's decision to return is huge for the entire defense. He is an incredible talent and leader.

Fuller stepped up in a secondary that needed a leader.

Happy he is returning.

Fuller, White:  That's going to be a very smart pair--very smart.  It ought to be an extraordinary season from those two.

I am grateful to have a player of his talent come back to have the year HE believes he should have! That internal drive is something that clearly others have found appealing (naming him captain)! Hopefully it is something others will or have chosen to emulate!
