13 wins, Go Bucks! I wonder how Herbstreit will still justify three loss Georgia being ranked ahead of us?
Ohhhhhhh, that’s right — the SEC brought to us by ESPN. Is that the conference where everybody gets an extra win every year by only playing 8 conference games and then playing a high school team in week 11? I can’t remember, don’t recall ESPN mentioning that part. For the life of me, why diesn’t The B1G cut all ties with ESPN and hook up exclusively with FOX and the BTN?
It works!! The SEC champion hasn’t been left out; with another year where a Division Second Place team made it also.
BIG should also move to a similar schedule pattern instead of the Bucks playing PSU and TTUN in back to back weeks. The SEC method works!
Always and forever, Go Bucks!
Delany & the B1G are all about the money, and more cash flows in from conference games than non-conference.* So the 9 conference games will stay.
Chances are the B1G teams will keep having one-loss champs (or worse) and will continue to be left out of the playoff.
* Mostly because B1G fans don't show up or tune-in for non-conference games (unlike SEC fans), but also because B1G schools charge top prices for OOC games.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
How much of a difference is there for Semi final money to New Year six? ..... and in down the line.
Getting 2 teams in a Semi Final and 2 in the New Years six (at one point this year, 4 BIG teams were in the top 10.)
In the end, talking gate fares from 7 games, vs. gate fares from 14 games and more in bowl $$$.
This is so funny when you see who tweeted this.
Haskins is terrible @Raiders @Buccaneers @Jaguars and any other team who may want a quarterback. He is not accurate and has a weak arm. You dont want him, trust us.

Haha good stuff. This tweet pissed me off at first until I realized it was a Giants account.
Re: MVP honorable mentions - Mike Weber and Parris Campbell were also critical for Ohio State offensively. JDIII came up with that TD catch to close the first half, as well as recovering the onside kick at the end to seal the deal. Jeffrey Okudah turned in his best game yet, and should garner some early hype going into next season.
Wild season, I'm almost relieved the offseason is here...almost.
Okudah had a heck of a game and I was happy for Brendan coming up w the pic after the phantom [SEC ref] call; (clears throat). As the game went on, I most wanted to see Weber get his 100. But either way, he had a great night.
“For me, this is who we are. We have a culture. We work at it very hard. And we’re efficient at it.” - Coach Day
Yeah, if there was one reasonable thing I didn't get last night it was Weber falling short of 100.
Still had a great game...set the tone early, throughout.
one reasonable thing I didn't get last night it was Weber falling short of 100.
The blocking was not there for his last carry, or he may very well have surpassed 100.
Tell me that Ohio State is not one of the best four teams in the country this year after what we saw last night.
I don't know if they beat Bama or Clemson, but they for sure put up a better fight than Notre Dame did, and I think Ohio State beats the brakes off of Oklahoma.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I don't know if they beat Bama or Clemson, but they for sure put up a better fight than Notre Dame did, and I think Ohio State beats the brakes off of Oklahoma.
If Ohio State brings the 9 Units Strong A Game then they do match up well with Clemson and Bama.
Notre Dame and Oklahoma would be interesting and I think favorable matchups overall for this Buckeye Team.
We will never know.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Made the mistake of reading Maisel's piece on ESPN about the playoffs (I know, when will I learn). Essentially he is at no expanded playoffs until Dabo and Saban retire. So one of the many Southern mouth pieces is advocating for what Saban wants - go back to the two team BCS format. That way they can just have Bama and Clemson play every year. Might as well just cancel the entire regular season.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I don’t think it’s just espn. I think those two teams have been the best from 2015-2018. We sleep walked through most of 2015, and then helped to prove we couldn’t compete with Clemson in 2016 (just like ND did Saturday)
Then we proceeded to shit the bed in 2017 against Oklahoma and Iowa and then in 2018 against purdue and narrowly avoiding a second crapper vs Maryland. So yeah, those two teams were better than us.
Boy it sure would be great if we had a 6-8 team playoff so we weren't sitting here wondering "what if the best team didn't get picked to play in the championship game" at he end of yet another college football season.
What a great win for the entire Buckeye Nation. The team is clearly heading in the right direction. What a great way to send Urban out with this Rose Bowl victory.
See you in Indy !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Seattle Sounders 2019 MLS Champions
Agree- great win and very nice 13 win season!!!
Enjoying daily the back to back ttun beatdowns.
Hate to see the off season here already - gonna be a long few months.
This needs an update. Urban Meyer has a least favorite moment.
Urban Meyer's least favorite moment will always be when the QB doesn't run the ball on 3rd down.
That is the general direction I was going. Or the defense gives up a conversion to “Q run”.
It was probably when Haskins didn't run it on 2nd down when he had a wide open lane.
With 6+ minutes left in the game, OSU snapped the ball with 25ish seconds left on the clock. Also left time on the play clock on ensuing plays.
Game management during this time was not good. Not good at all.
No, but I am pretty sure they would have got crap for being too conservative at times too. After the defensive stop deep in Washington territory OSU got the ball on their own like 46.
They could have run it three times (even with the offsides penalty) and burned more clock or forced Washington to burn timeouts. I almost preferred trying to score in that situation.
The offensive line melted down in the fourth quarter in particular.
13-1 and Rose Bowl Champions. Great season. The future is very bright.
Very odd game imo
"To The House"
It really looked like the team was ready to get on the bus in the 4th quarter on both sides of the ball.
The game was won by the end of the 3rd and everyone just kinda shrugged their shoulders and said "well good season mates"
I'm pretty sure Jim Tressel's least favorite moment was when they were throwing incomplete passes and snapping the ball with over 20 seconds left on the play clock despite a big lead in the 4th quarter. With good time management, Washington never would have scored that last touchdown because the game would have ended 3 minutes earlier.
Not to mention, getting away from the run somewhat. Couple questionable pass calls that went incomplete. Had we pounded Weber....it’s not like it wasn’t working. Either way, solid game.
Right. Just run the damn ball. I am pretty sure the first possession after they scored to make it 28-10, we went 3 and out with two incomplete passes and took less than 40 seconds off the clock.
Also, he was totally watching the parade.
I also noticed several plays when Washington had the ball - where only 3 seconds came off the clock - and just looking at the replay thought it should have been more than double. These were all in the 4th quarter.
I was frustrated with the offensive line towards the end of the game. I get Washington was playing with momentum and bringing pressure from all over the place, but it seemed like there was a free rusher in Haskins face every play. Earlier in the game that did not happen much (granted changes). But he had no time at all in the fourth quarter.
The running game also dried up entirely. The stupid offsides penalties did not help the cause much either throughout the game.
All that aside, it is a Rose Bowl win. Hard to be mad at that, the ending was rough to watch though. I was a little surprised how Washington went from inept on offense to looking pretty good so quickly though. The bright side is that OSU did not give up a big play TD, just nearly so.
Agreed, I thought Shuggarts was playing.
IMO, Coach Stud needs to go, we can't keep having 4-5 false starts a game. It's Just Stupid!
When we were dialed in we looked great, then up 25, the urgency and focus left, But it's an exhibition, and they did enough to preserve the W. On to FAU and the 2019 season.
The two biggest false start offenders are gone (66 and 59). I have to think that will improve now. It's been infuriating, but now it's over. Never been so happy to see a 3-year starter graduate.
You're right they're gone, t's just so frustrating!
I have to think that will improve now.
JB Shugarts might disagree with you there.
The Silver Bullets allowed just three points in a stellar first half but seemed to let off after the break.
I disagree with regard to the defense letting up after the break. I think the defense played its ass off... the offense, on the other hand, had an inexcusable final 25 minutes. It was probably the worst 25 minute stretch of offense the team had this year. Think about that. As bad as the running game was in the middle of the season, most of the third qtr and all of the fourth qtr yesterday surpassed those mid-season struggles. The defense was on the field for over 50 snaps in the second half last night (54, I think), while the offense took 22 snaps (not counting the two in victory formation). The defense didn't 'let up,' they were dog ass tired. The offense gave the defense ZERO help, and that's no exaggeration, from very close to the 10:00 mark in the third quarter through the rest of the game. ZERO help. It was a frustrating end to the most frustrating 13-1 Ohio State team in the school's history. Congratulations to them... B1G/Rose Bowl champions, humblers of That team, and a good group of young people (no assholes, no troublemakers), but holy cow, what a frustrating ride.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
I mostly agree, but I feel that the DL actually had a so so game, by its standards, while the much maligned LBs and especially the DBs played very well (although the LB play in the 4Q started to get spotty again). On a bunch of plays, Browning had way too much time to throw. When the DL did get to him, they failed to bring him down.
The good news is that it's an anomaly . . . under Larry Johnson's tutelage, the deeper and more veteran DL will be back in full force next season!
^^^^ This, I have not been certain from last night to today who called the game for Ohio State in the second half. The style of play calling appeared to me to be not in keeping with the way Urban has ground out a game before. I feel like there were other voices that were allowed in this series of decisions and is one area or Urban who is very aware of records was trying to get D. Haskins to 5000 yards. Either way, incredibly risky and unfair to an awesome performance by the defense overall!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
Kmp10. I am in complete agreement with you. You're either the hunter or the hunted, and OSU allowed UW to hunt them the entire second half by not making offensive adjustments. The Buckeye offense did as much or more harm to our defense than UW did as evidenced by the fact that we had about 270 yards in offense the first half and an 80-yard drive early in the third quarter, meaning OSU mustered about 20 yards in total offense after the early 3rd quarter TD. That's unacceptable and put way too much pressure on the defense.
I'm thrilled with the win, 13-1, and B1G and Rose Bowl Championships. Nothing ever seemed to be easy. Go Bucks!
False starts have not as much to do with coaching but more to do with mental discipline.
Indeed. And the QB has some responsibility, too. At least 2 of the false starts came after DH took too much time making play call adjustments and walking up to the line, then back into shotgun position, then back up to the line again.
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
It's weird but I'd have felt a lot better about this game if we'd gone down 21-3 in the first half before coming back in the second half. A comeback is a lot more fun than watching your team nearly squander a massive lead.
Oh well, happy for the win. Go Buckeyes!
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
The offense did lose its edge after going up 28-3. And that's the thing . . . Washington's defense is stout, so it took elite offensive line play and skill position playmaking, up to that point, to score those 4 TDs. On two of Dwayne's TD passes, he had to "look off" DBs and then quickly throw an accurate laser to the open man in the zone.
Mike Weber was running like a man possessed, but I think he got dinged again late in the first half.
In the 4Q, Dwayne was not as sharp and the OL started to flounder . . . if they had been playing against, say, Georgia or Oklahoma, they could have afforded to be less than razor sharp and still picked up enough first downs to easily salt away an 18 point lead, but Washington's defense was as advertised.
ESPN felt like it needed to continue to bash Meyer on his way out in there article. Do we really need ESPN? Would love to cut ties with their ultra biased reporting.
Survivor of Cooper era
The "D" had a "stellar" first half, best of the year, but they reverted to a "cellar" 4th quarter, one of their worst of the year, . . . not to mention a terrible 4th quarter by hte "O", their worst of the year. While I believe he is up to the challenge Day has his work cut out for him going into next year.
Though Tressel loves the Rose Bowl more than life itself, he was screaming at the TV after five straight punts in the second half
Very good win against a legitimate top 10 team. Yes, there was a big letdown offensively after the middle of the third quarter including the bench and play calling. On the other hand, defense was Washington's s strength and our defense also came up with stops when needed after dominating in the first half. I said at the time of selection that ND was the team that didn't belong but I certainly don't think we were better than Oklahoma, Georgia or even Florida or Texas. Lots of parity in that top 10-15 but there are two elite teams and, much as I hate it, they are both in the final. We do really need to go to 5 conference champions, 3 at large, get rid of the 12th game but keep conference championship games and play the first round at the higher seed' field. Our schedule is difficult next year - NW on the road, Nebraska on the road, TTUN on the road, and Wisconsin, Penn State and watch out for Cinncinnati and also Maryland, especially if they get Jalen Hurts and he is able to play immediately. Enjoy the 13 wins because I don't think that's happening next year and that's no slight on Ryan Day. .
nothing shows the value of “9 Units Strong” like that first half of the game
then when the offense unit, for whatever reason(s), falters and can't manage to give the defense unit the rest they need, we get what was saw the last part of the game
THERE is a “thing to work on” for the new Day Era —- focus on getting to where you have no quick ‘3-n-outs’ (or at a minimum, no back-to-back-to-back offensive series fails)
“Save yourself and relax during every game. I recommend a fine bourbon.”
Tressel's least favorite moment was obviously the partially blocked punt.
I honestly think other than xich, Urban hates running up the score and the. things happen. Because they really did not even try some of the plays that were successful in the first half. Oh well. Water under bridge.
Why we stopped running Weber aggressively in the 3rd and 4th quarter I will never know! Even if we threw on some of there pressure looks yet ran the ball two times for every one pass, we end that game and allow our defense rest to continue pressuring the QB!
The Rose Bowl victory should be considered a "marquee" win for the Ohio State football program and a fitting way to send Urban Meyer off to retirement. Yet the game played out in such a way the outcome was strangely unsatisfying. Simply put the game in Pasadena was a microcosm of the Buckeye 2018 season. All the strengths and potential was displayed before the flaws reappeared.
Going forward, we the fans need to do ourselves, Ryan Day, and the team a big favor in remembering there is no inalienable right that Ohio State football be a perennial top two team. As 2014 showed it may be more fun to be the underdog than suffer the angst of the last four seasons.
Too much time spent at the North Heidelberg rather than the classroom. SSD 68-72
Offense did nothing in the late 3rd/4th quarter which put the defense under so much pressure being on the field that long-props to them for holding up and securing UFMs 1st Rose bowl and last OSU Victory!
If that is true about Jim Tressel, then that solidifies him as the best overall Ohio State coach. Love Hayes and Meyer, but Tressel changed it all. Going to games in the 70's I missed OSU's 1968 National Title so the frustration I dealt with had my only expectation for a "successful" OSU season was beat SCum and win the Bowl Game. Jim Tressel changed it to where I expected every class to win a National Championship. He did play for it 3 times to Urb's 1, but it is so hard not having them on the field anymore. Best of luck Mr. Day. Go Bucks!

Jim Tressel got up early because he was excited for the Rose Bowl. He and Ellen enjoyed watching the Rose Parade, an annual tradition for them. His least favorite moments of the game were the shanked punt and blocked punt.
We are now 8-7 on the Rose and 25-25 overall in bowl games. Another milestone for Urban... he finally got us out of a losing bowl record and to a winning record in the Rose bowl.
