Without looking at any stats, have to believe this will put KJ up there with all the Buckeye greats for career receiving stats when its all said and done.

I don't think a captaincy should be handed out because it's a player's last year, or because he's more talented than other guys. It should be for leadership, non-stop effort, and making one's-self excellent even without the natural tools. Think John Simon, Tyquan Lewis, Pat Elflein, Terry McLauren. Quite frankly, with Young's physical tools, he shouldn't disappear for stretches as he has done in some games, even if he's receiving a disproportionate share of the opposing team's attention, and he shouldn't be failing as often as he does on gap integeity as often as he does. By no means is he an awful player (he's one of our best), but he has to show a little more in these other areas before I'd consider him worthy of being a captain. I'm not as certain about Dobbins, but he seems to disappear at times too. These seemingly minor shortcomings are fixable, and perhaps by the time next season rolls around it'll be different (even if I don't see it until after the season starts).
All the guy does is catch everything thrown his way, plus his leadership will pay HUGE dividends for the receivers in '19. Glad you're sticking around K.J.! A man cannot have too many gold pants.
"You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least, you need a beer." - Frank Zappa
this is a very smart move. he'll be on the field for 90% of the offensive snaps next year and will probably break 1000 yards, add a couple more highlight reel catches, and end up being taken in the first three rounds. he is a great player but hasn't had the chance to showcase it full time.
the kids are playing their tail off, and the coaches are screwing it up! - JLS
Boom indeed! Great hands, and with the great trio of seniors leaving he will be an important cog in Coach Day's offensive machine. The receiving group has a chance to be a great unit again next season.
Holy shit was not expecting this. I was a little worried about how our receivers would perform early in the season next year losing all that experience even with the incredible talent we have. This changes things.
So happy to hear Hill using his head. He will no doubt be one of the captains next year and gives them someone else to mentor the young, talented receivers behind him. Only wish MJ would have done the same instead of declaring and being a middle to late round selection.
I'm guessing Jordan will be selected earlier than people think with his measurables (that the NFL loves) and past results. If he isn't then someone is going to be very lucky to land him in the later rounds.
Jordan leaving really hurts, when that's a position group we're going to be thin at. We need Doug Nester to sign and need to kill it recruiting OL the next couple years.
Thanks KJ for taking one last opportunity to enjoy your teammates and the whole college experience in addition to improving your draft status. Wise choice.
I'm hopeful. Munford should continue to improve, and it looks like we'll be returning to some real road graders on the inside. If NPF is ready to go at RT, or even if Alabi is up to Darryl Baldwin*-type year as a rest, I think we'll be good.
* the guy people never talk about without whom the magical 2014 season never happens.
I feel like KJ is a secret MVP or something. He just knows how to get open and probably has some of the best hands on the team. I'm pumped that he's returning!
So happy to hear this!! KJ could/would have been a good receiver in the nfl next year (this year) but now he's going to have a great year for my buckeyes! Now throw him the ball and lets gooo!
sidenote: did I hear Babb was moved to H back? anyone read that too somewhere??
Whoever becomes our starting QB gets Dobbins beside him, along with Snead and Teague as back-ups. They get Hill, Mack, Victor, Olave, Saunders, Hausmann, Farrell, Ruckert, Berry, and others to throw the ball to. With Fuller's return and upgrades to the defensive staff on the way, the only big question mark remaining is how quickly a mostly new offensive line will come together. Great to be a Buckeye.
Don't get me wrong, I'm shocked and really happy about KJ staying but...I think the Fuller announcement is bigger. We clearly don't have the depth at Safety we need. Mack, Victor, Olave, and even Wilson could hold it down next year. This just makes our depth that much better.
Absolutely GREAT !!! Thank You, KJ !! All the best good wishes for you as you pursue your dreams while at The Ohio State University and after that whatever/wherever you go. You are a fantastic part of the team leadership !! Buckeye Nation is all in for you !!
Besides Haskins, I thought the 3 guys who could come back and would have the greatest impact in how successful we are next season would be Jordan, Fuller, and Hill (not necessarily in that order).
2 out of 3 ain't bad... and throw in Malik Harrison for good measure.
Unless someone really unexpected announces, that would be it. There would be a dozen other guys eligible for whom it just makes no sense at all. I'd be happy if one of those two stays and the other goes. A little bit more experience on the outside can be a good thing, but I think it's helpful for there to be more room for up-and-coming players who look like they could be better.
Massive win for Day! KJ has been the best route runner on the team the last three seasons and has a chance to break a couple Ohio State receiving records. Needs just 47 catches to break David Boston's all time REC record (a lock unless he gets hurt), and 1202 yards to break Michael Jenkins all time REC YDS record.
This is huge. Like, maybe winning a national title huge. I'm not exaggerating, KJ Hill is all around our best receiver, and with him and Dobbins returning to the offense, concerns about a new QB and a mostly new O-line will be lessened. Whoever's slinging the rock for the Buckeyes, they'll have a reliable set of hands to throw to in KJ Hill.
"porque las estirpes condenadas a cien años de soledad no tenían una segunda oportunidad sobre la tierra."
Absolutely. On a 3rd-and-7, it's nice for an inexperienced QB to know that he's got a guy who will run the correct route, get open, and catch what he can reach. KJ Hill can be that guy.
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.
If Jordan came back and I know Fields is eligible, I'd be prepared to say OSU is on Clemson's and Bama's level. They may still be without Jordan, but I need to see Bowen be healthy and Alibi/NPF be good at RT before I can say that.
We might wanna see how our new QB performs, how our new OL holds together, and how our new defense with an entire new staff looks before saying we're on Clemson and Bama's level. I know I'm a big negative jerk for saying that but that's a lot of unknowns. We'll need to avoid injuries on the OL too.
This is awesome. My blood pressure will thank him every time we receive a punt. I think KJ could catch a punt in a hailstorm with 5 F-16 jets passing by at low altitude. Plus needed leadership to bring along the young future stars.
AKA the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built
Spoiler alert, and for some of you trigger warning... but without haskins he isnt having a bigger year. That said he seems primed to catch david bostons record and him coming back fills a huge void. Awesome news.
That's why I thought it might not be in his best interest to return. But it was his decision. And he doesn't need to have to have a bigger year production-wise for him to be a major cog in a successful season.
K.J. has been one of my favorites for two years. The receiving corps should be just as strong as last year. Now if we can only find a QB to get them the ball ... LOL
I've liked this kid ever since that video from his parents in the stands seeing his first TD as a Buckeye. ("is it KJ?...It's KJ!...YAAYYY!!!!") I could really get a feel for their joy in experiencing their son being cheered by 105,000 voices. That and the fact that his endzone celebrations are top-shelf.
I can't wait to see how Garrett Wilson fits into the mold. We could very well have us yet another badass passing game in 2019 if Fields gets his waiver approved.
Wow I am shocked by this! After Weber, I thought Hill and Haskins were next most likely to leave. I was a little surprised Jordan left but getting Fuller, Harrison and Hill back is more than we could have hoped for. When you see UGA losing Mecole, Nauta and Ridley unexpectedly, it feels even better.
This is big for our young QB. The guy catches everything and can run all the routes. He’s a nice security blanket and go-to guy. Let’s hope we get Farrell/Ruckert more involved and improve our running game to help put our young QB.

I was a little surprised Jordan left but getting Fuller, Harrison and Hill back is more than we could have hoped for. When you see UGA losing Mecole, Nauta and Ridley unexpectedly, it feels even better.
If getting Patterson back for another year was a 5 star for TSUN, what the hell is this?
ESPN starting the SEC channel to concentrate on the SEC is like Baskin-Robbins starting a new store to concentrate on selling ice cream.
KJ. You are a true Buckeye. Thank you.
Go Bucks
This is seriously good news. Glad to have this guy on our team. Quality team player who makes us much better. Win / win situation for the Buckeyes.
This is big for our young QB. The guy catches everything and can run all the routes. He’s a nice security blanket and go-to guy. Let’s hope we get Farrell/Ruckert more involved and improve our running game to help put our young QB.
Having K.J. out there for a first year starter at Qab is an underrated BOaoM for 2019.
Love me some Golden Hands Hill
You win with people.
