It’s cloudy in Seattle all the time but not necessarily always rainy. It rains more in the three Cs of Ohio and more often in Cleveland than in Seattle.
Buckeye in the desert of Washington state.
You beat me to it, this one usually surprises people. You have to sign an NDA when you move here not to divulge this, but what the heck; Seattle summers are the most perfect in the nation. It's always sunny, usually 75-85, humidity is often below 25%, and it doesn't get dark until after 10 p.m. We had a 4 or 5 days over 100 last summer, put that is not that common. It's been kind of smokey for stretches over that past two summers, but that's mostly on those darned Canadians. Shhh!
P.s. Only children put milk in their coffee.
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
LCB, you forgot the sarcasm font. Sunny, 75-80? For 1/2 the year?
I joined my sister's family from Bellevue (Eastern Seattle) for a 4th of July picnic and it snowed!
Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Aina I ka Pono. The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. (Hawai'i state motto) Aloha nui kakou.
I didn't say half the year, I said summer. I would call bs on the snow, but the joke in this area is that summer starts on the 5th of July (because the July 4th weekend is often crappy.) so it's not impossible. Summer MAY last until October, in a good year. I live in the next 'burb to the east of Bellevue, and tell your sister there is a Buckeye Rose Bowl gamewatch in downtown Bellevue.
No BS, LCB, an inch of snow fell, altho' we went to Snoqualmie Falls which as you know is a little bit into the foothills of the Cascades. But snow on the 4th was awful.
I'll tell her. She's a Buckeye thru' and thru', but her hubby went to UW. Aloha.
Ohio is grey for 6-7 months of the year.
More like 9-10. I love the football team but the state itself is only awesome to people who have never lived anywhere else.
I have no reason to hate Washington
You have 10 previously stated reasons, Martin.
Huh? Care to explain?
Lol was just referring to the article; you were given 10 reasons to hate them. Run with it for the next 24 hours!
So I'm supposed to hate Washington because someone wrote an article telling me to? I prefer to think for myself.
Ok Martin. Hope you have a good 2019.
Some people. Amirite?
Let's Go BUCKEYES!!!!!
He doesn't get it.
IT'S A LONG RUNNING JOKE PEOPLE. At long last, have you no understanding of humor?
"You're welcome for the house I built."
Well... There was bound to be one. Congrats on being "that guy".
"Come on, you sons of b!tches! Do you want to live forever?" -- Dan Daly, WWI
They play Ohio State at 5PM.
I had to read the Pete Carroll one a couple of times before I realized it had nothing to do with Washington. Inspired.
We can just add the Seahawks and Richard Sherman, the man that made public muggings acceptable to NFL officials.
wasn't Pete Carroll an assistant coach here at one point ??
under Earle Bruce 1 season 1979
Upvote this post for #5, the inclusion of "Big Game Pete". The gum chomper is the most televised head coach on TV. I know he's a Super Bowl champ but he's also the biggest SB loser ever. He's a self righteous type and his history at USC seems to be swept under the carpet.
Just moved to central WA because I couldn’t take the rain and gloom of the coast ...and trust me, it last longer than half the year. Our house prefers WSU of the big state schools but we know some dubbers. They’re harmless.
Deserves got nothin' to do with it
If you moved to the east side of the mountains, I feel sorry. Can not wait to move out of the Tri-Cities.
I live right on Moses Lake and I really love it here.
I lived in Tri Cities for 5 years...2007 to 2012. I programmed KONA AM and FM while there.
As you know...its sunny over 300 days a year. The Cascade mountains keep most of the rain and snow away. Short winters...long spring...summer and fall. Great Columbia river...outdoor sports and trails.
Restaurants leave something to be desired.
Tri Cities was just about the only area in the country that didn't suffer during the Great Recession of 2008 to 2009. Housing prices and employment went up...due to the billions of dollars associated with Hanford nuclear cleanup and all thr other energy industries that are there. In fact...there are more PHDs per capita in Tri Cities Washington than any other place on earth.
And...if you want to visit Seattle...its only 3 hours away...but you can't get there during much of the winter.
"Give your dream an aspiration date."
Walla Walla gets some good press from the wine & dine crowd. Were the wineries a big thing back when you lived in that area?
Not sure if you’re joking or not, but there are many more places that have more PhDs per capita than the Tri-Cities, as PNNL is the only local employer that really requires a lot of them.
They can go to games in boats! I hate them for that.
They must get like 10 minute amazon delivery. I hate them for that.
They can say Jimi Hendrix is a local. I hate them for that.
Fuck...I hate Washington...Fuck Washington...Fuck scUm...Go Bucks
I'll work for helmet stickers!
Shut up and grow up pea head.
I dont hate any university to where the kids are playing their hearts out for their university! Just like the Ohio State kids!
It's hard to work up any genuine hate for Washington. Maybe if you go back to the 1986 game where they crushed us 40-7, but that was more on Earle and turnovers than generating any hate for UW. Let's hope we feel the same way this time tomorrow!
Thanks for the reminder. I was at that game. It absolutely poured the whole first half, and by halftime the game was as good as over. That is the only game, at any level, where I left at halftime. Thankfully, I've been to a couple OSU/UW games since then where we've given them some payback. The final installment is due tomorrow.
“The final next installment is due tomorrow“
Seattle in January was the darkest gloomiest most depressing lack of vitamin D I have ever experienced. Seattle in the summer is unbelievably beautiful.
I won't defend those intersections, but many of them are that way due to the topography of the city.
Yes, the summer months are glorious!
"Yes, the summer months weeks are glorious!" FIFY.
Honestly, on a good day it is heaven. Evergreen forests and snow capped Mt Ranier.
Sailed Lake Washington to Union Lake thru' the locks to Puget Sound and then to the San Juan Islands and up to Vancouver Island in Canada and saw Buchert Gardens.
Victoria is the prettiest small city in N.America, IMHO.
We moved to Seattle in the summer of 1989. It was fantastic!
By January of 1990 I told Mr. Chick to get me the hell out of there. We lasted 6 more years, working at The Man’s airplane plantation, before surrendering and coming back to the midwest. When the Buckeyes came out to play UW, we got tickets, donned our Buckeye gear and went to the game. We didn’t even make it in before getting physically attacked by drunken frat boys. Had to call a cop.
Their fight song is Bow Down To Washington. Fuck them and their coffee.
Foul mouth Chick Buckeye. Who would have thought?
I like Washington's fight song and colors. No reasons to hate them.
Before I read anymore I want to agree with John Ross being a reason. Everyone knows the bungles are too dumb to evaluate talent and he comes along and wows them with what he does in spandex!
I would love to visit the state. Would also love to arrive at a stadium in a boat. NICE. No hate but seriously hope we destroy them in football tomorrow.
Starbucks is enough of a reason...I like coffee but c'mon...IHOP has better coffee...Dunkin's taste better anyways, or at least it seems that way because it doesn't cost as much...
I like Starbucks just fine. What I hate is ordering a "medium" coffee and have some perky kid saying, "So you want a Grande?" No, I want a fucking medium coffee.
Wasn’t aware that was a flavor or size of coffee.
Back in the 80's I had my rental car broken into and one of Seattle's finest made off with my newly bought umbrella. I've never forgiven the city for that.
You had me at Starbucks. Over rated over priced coffee my wife and daughters spend way too much on. I hate that place.
The Legend continues
It's a long standing JOKE before every game people. Can't we all just play along?
The reason why the lattes and mocha frappacappachinos are so popular is because the beans are basically charcoal. They have to cover up the burnt taste with massive amounts of cream, sugar and flavoring. That said, I'll fistfight anyone that says the Pumpkin Spice Latte isn't phenomenal. Now hand me my Uggs.
Plain old regular black coffee, please. Preferably under $1.09 per cup.
My brother-in-law was in coffee distribution. They called it "Charbucks".
Still doesn't stop me from getting my fix.
7. JOHN ROSS
7. STEVE EMTMAN
Frasier and Niles Crane.
That's two reasons to love Seattle. The greatest spin-off show of all time. Fmirl if you disagree.
The Drunken Duncan's episode was hilarious.
Reasons not to hate UW? They absolutely kicked TTUN azz in the 1992 Rose Bowl..owned Desmond in that game..and Mario Bailey struck a Heisman pose. That defense was one of the best I have seen..with Steve Entman leading that bunch. And they upset TTUN in the '78 Rose Bowl with some QB named Warren Moon
Second..Don James the late UW coach who was nicknamed "the Dawgfather"..was from Massillon..and the coach of Kent State.
"Just remember one thing. I can do your job, but you can't do mine." - Woody Hayes to an OSU professor
Don James...reason to hate...coached/mentored/created Nick Satan.
And Bo was one of James' mentors. Figures.
Two great coaches.
Maybe, but only one won an NC, and it wasn't Bo.
I'd say Seattle politics/antifa, Seahawk players and lots of serial killers are far better reasons than anything in the article.....just sayin.................
I'm obviously not a fan of UW tomorrow, but I can't put hate on a program coached by Chris Petrersen-one of the real good guys and great coaches in CFB.............
From what I've seen, antifa is more of an Oregon thing. Seattle's previous mayor was a pedo, and it does have at least one total nutjob on the council. The whole serial killer thing is a bit freaky, especially if you include the region from Portland to Vancouver, BC.
It's hard to dislike Mr Rodgers, I mean Chris Petersen, but I will try for the next 24 hours. He will go back to being a good guy on Wednesday.
Seattle politics? I thought such allusions were verboten? Hate over politics? We're all Americans damnit. Whatever the opposite party is, don't we despise American enemies more than the other party?
You took a simple joke and insinuated he likes terrorists more than Democrats.... Is that really what you're saying? I guarantee that's not what he is saying.
Those intersections look like Chinese characters/letters. That's messed up...said a guy in Jersey.
I was only there for a few weeks and had to go downtown for a job interview (pre-Google maps, Internet, cell phones, etc.). Made it downtown, but got lost in the maze. Kept shouting out my window at passers-by, asking if they knew where the street was that I was looking for. No one did. Thanks for nothing.
Wow, very surprised no one remembers the Lack of Institutional Control slapped on them during the reign of Don James in the early '90s. That was a real mess. At the end, James had let success go to his head and he was a bit of a jerk.
Actually similar to the media witch hunt for Urban Meyer.
Linga? . . . Linga?
Nothing cleanses the soul like a no call pass interference.
He seems to be AWOL tonight. He must have had the early MOD shift.
It's 2019 and Michigan still sucks!
Michigan doesn’t suck, just their coach. But hey, keep him for another 10 years.
Starbucks is to coffee as The Wall is to Pink Floyd. Sure it's popular and every hipster in America loves to be associated with it, but real fans find it tasteless and overly try-hard. Meddle/Timmy's is better anyway.
Starbucks burns its roasts so you can still taste it through the diabetes.
Where the heck is Linga?? I didn’t know they were 0-12,that’s a pretty big turn around. Don’t hear much about the great northwest back here in Ohio. But I have worked out there in the summer and it was beautiful.
I live in Seattle. It is beautiful and I have nothing bad to say about the PNW (even Idaho).
That said...theres a lot to not like about UW. Spend 10 minutes with one of their fans.
My 2 sisters live in the East Lake. They like me to visit because usually I bring a sunny respite from the drizzly gray weather that goes on for months without seeing the sun.
As much as I love it here, I am always very ready for a week in the Florida sun with my family each May. By that point I'm jonesing for some sun, water, and island drinks.
It’s understandable coming from a duck fan. They feel the same way a out you.
Heck, so do I. I will crap on the bandwagon fans that jumped on the flashy uniforms some 10 years ago. Most Duck fans are fairly reasonable.
#11. Stupid gun laws.
I've lived in Seattle for 19 years. I''ve attended a lot of Husky games;. They don't know what a buzzsaw they're walking into.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
1 reason not to hate UW is we have bikini baristas here. Their coffee is better than Starbucks along with a better view. ;)
The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender. - Woody Hayes
Ah....my ex lives there!
Onward and upward! Go Buckeyes!
some of these reasons are really a desperate stretch...
No sick kids today please
Home of Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, progressive, beautiful, and legal weed. Sorry, but I cannot hate Washington!
I also like Michigan too. It's the one game on the schedule that's an automatic W. It's the Purdue's, Iowa's, and the MSU's that keep getting in the way of the CFP
The Twilight movies. Enough said.
"Our kind of families win a few more football games than others." Coach Hayes
I watched the game at a Seattle bar that was 95% Husky fans. No schadenfreude, but it was weird being one of two guys wearing Ohio State gear.
