He is such a class act. The best at what he does and we are blessed to have him as a Buckeye.

Yea, which makes me wonder, why did he leave Penn State? I mean with all his ties to the tin can stadium, what could possibly have made him leave there? Whatever the reason, I'm grateful he's here now. He's a legend.

He was JoPa’s man and left when new coach came in who apparently didn’t want him.

It's more important to me that Larry Johnson stays here than any other coach or QB on the roster.

Keep it up coach!

Day was be way off his rocker not to keep Johnson.

HS
buckeyedude's picture

I have no way of knowing for sure, but I'd bet it was never a consideration for Day to NOT keep Johnson. He'd have to be c-r-a-z-y. Snagging him from Happy Valley was probably the best thing to happen to OSU, after hiring UFM. Just my opinion.

HS

If Day doesn’t keep Johnson, he’d probably get fired by Gene Smith immediately.

And if not, there would be pitchforks and torches headed to the WHAC en masse.

Heres hoping LJ stays around around until at least age 70-72.  If Bill Snyder could do it why not LJ?  Would be great if he had an under study he could be grooming for the day he leaves.

Two things:
1. Going from Mike vrabel to Larry Johnson is like trading in your Porsche for another Porsche that doesn't cuss.

2. Penn State administration taking LJ for granted and him leaving for Ohio State is the worst Penn State loss in the last decade.

On your second point, that has always amazed me.

LJSR was PSU's most valuable assistant coach, and they let him go to another team in their division. I can only speculate, but maybe the scandal surrounding PSU was too much for LJSR and he just wanted out. Ring! Ring! Hey, it's Urban Meyer calling ...

In the time afterwards, LJSR's defensive lines have wreaked havoc on PSU. It's justice.

Amen.  Coach Johnson should be the highest paid assistant in the country, period.

I am interested in who we would hire to replace him when he does retire.  I didn't realize he was 66.  I would think he is going to want to retire in the next 4-5 years.  We need a great successor to the best defensive line coach in college football history.  If Smith was smart, he would have Coach Johnson select his replacement.

At the end of the day I suspect that is what makes him so incredibly successful is that he really cares about the young men entrusted to his care.  That and he is a defensive genius.

Larry Johnson is a gem of a person and a coach. He exemplifies what we all want from Buckeyes and he is able to communicate that directly to recruits.

Pay this man more. Keep him forever.

Awesome to have a man who is at the top of his profession, a role model for these kids, a man's man AND a gentleman as one of our Buckeye coaches. As far as next year's D-Line; a lot of talent and I'll predict this; don't sleep on Tommy Togiai.

The only hard day was yesterday

HS

100% agreed on Togiai. That guy is a human pile driver.

His performance in the circle drill was eye-popping. He blew his opponent 10 yards past the circle. There's a reason he was the first to get his black stripe removed.

Lock him up with a contract that keeps him here for as long as he wants. Coach. Day needs to step up and make his first executive decision. Its a no brainer!!!!

Wyandot, LJ gets $750,000 a year.  If he retires at age 70, that will be $3 million.

Brother, you have upped our game.

You will always be one of the most loved Buckeye coaches.

I have a picture in my mind, forever, of you hugging Steve Miller on the sideline, after his pick six against Bama.

Just watched it again. Yeah, cried again too. What you have is bigger than college football ever was.....Spirit.

Dear lord all-mighty, pls use your grace to ensure LJ does not leave.  And be generous with your wisdom so that the new HC or anyone else associated with Buckeye football ensures LJ doesn't leave.  he's been the one constant of excellence, dare I say it, on and off the field.

GO BUCKS.

Larry Johnson is a great man, football coach, and leader of young men. We are so fortunate to have him. Promotion to DC with a new LB coach would be the best we could hope for. After GS leaves (5 days), give LJ the overdue pay raise he deserves and find the best possible LB coach. If coordinator isn't a prime interest we could go co-coordinator with Grinch.
Thank you for dignified excellence Mr. Johnson. We are eternally grateful.
