"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
It was nice watching Kaleb Wesson have his way in the paint once again.
Well done Buckeyes now get some rest as the B1G CG's are right around the corner.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
David was awfully close to the final score from his hoop preview 85-64 was his prediction.
Buckeyes need to rebound a whole lot better to beat MSU. HPU out-boarded them 36-27, including 10 off rebounds. And Free Throws were not good at 11 of 22.
Some good things though: 19 assists on 30 made field goals. Turnovers were under 10 until the last few minutes when the reserves came in. The Wessons were better: only 3 of the 11 TO’s, and they had 7 assists (and 13 rebounds). Overall team FG shooting good at 56% and Treys at 44%.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Joey lane hitting that three at the end... a thing of beauty!
Exactly. The recap missed the most important part of the game!
Great to get the win today but as coach said we have much to work on. 50% FT shooting and being significantly out rebounded will not help a lot in the more challenging B10. Maybe my expectations were too high but we also need more production from Jallow when he's in the game.
Maybe my expectations were too high but we also need more production from Jallow when he's in the game.
I'd like to see Jallow score more too, but he only played 8 minutes and went 0-2 FG. He averages 13 minutes and 3.3 ppg.
But then, he is only 18 years old.
He did not exactly look happy sitting next to Kaleb near the end of the game. Numbers next year are not in his favor given the growth of Washington and Muhammad.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Yeah, on the one hand Musa kinda looks like the odd man out and a possible transfer candidate, especially considering the talent coming in next year.
On the other hand, it is a long season with at least 19 more games to be played. It is hard to believe given how quiet he has been offensively in nearly every other game, but he did score 11 against Minnesota and 11 against Illinois. The Moose may still come loose before this season ends. You never know.
I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.
8 minutes is simply not enough time to have any sort of rhythm. I am sorry that Musa left high school early as this could have been his first year with potential to fight for growth and playing time, as it is he would be better served transferring after sitting out the rest of this season and moving his course load towards a major at a solid MAC school!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
He’s definitely in a funk.
On the plus side, Duane Washington woke up with some nice plays in th second half.
Solid win for the Bucks. We definitely have some consistency issues (free throw shooting, turnovers, defensive rebounding) that pop up from time to time. And we don't really have dynamic scorers, so blow-outs, regardless of the opponent, are hard to come by.
But a few things we can count on:
1. Great team defense. No shutdown defender (though Muhammad and Dre Wesson are pretty good) or a major shot blocker, but they are consistently connected as a team and play hard. Not amazing competition, but giving up only 70 pts or more twice (71 against Bucknell, 72 versus Cuse) in 13 games is pretty impressive.
2. Unselfish offense. The ball rarely sticks with one player on offense. Kaleb is an above average passer for a big man, but everyone shares the ball well on this team. 44 assists in the last 2 games.
3. Kaleb Wesson draws fouls and gets easy buckets. He is prone to foul trouble and can struggle in pick and roll defense, but the kid is a load. Robbie Hummel did not even list him as one of the Top 5 big men in the league on a recent broadcast. That's fine, Robbie. I'll take him on our team, especially since he will likely be here 4 years.
4. Kyle Young will play within himself. He will never be player of the game. But he'll get 2-4 dunks or lay-ups, a handful of rebs, a handful of hustle plays, and he'll play solid defense. Those are good things to count on.
5. Luther Muhammad will play with emotion and intensity. I feel like he would in front of 10 fans. Just wait until he actually gets a good home crowd (Hopefully next Saturday against Sparty).
Ohio State basketball accomplished something TTUN football will never accomplish: a 12-1 record
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
The buckeyes need to start better. They have been great at making adjustments and pulling away in the 2nd half this year. But if they continue to start poorly going into big 10 play, they’ll be in trouble. Teams are too talented in the conference to get in a hole.
I agree to an extent, but I think they are just a 'grind it out' type a team. They are a pretty physical team and they rarely, if ever, take defensive possessions off.
I think that style tends to wear down the opposing team and opens up better offense in the 2nd half for the Buckeyes. They remind me of a predominantly rushing offense in football that sticks with it and the big runs tend to happen later in the game.
Agreed. Looking at the schedule I see 7-8 losses coming which would put them at 13-7 or 12-8 which gets them into the NCAAs even if they lose their first game in the conference tournament.
That is a fantastic analogy and I agree with it from both an offensive and a defensive stand point. They play a very solid brand of team defense (connected, physical on ball, run down all loose balls) then they do not try to run many fast breaks - half court pound you with Wesson. As long as they allow Wesson to go under the pick and roll and have the guard go over we will give up corner 3's yet rebound better and not expose the guys to a variety of fouls!
Done with the appetizers. Now on to the main course. Eat well boys, eat well.
TG Proud Buckeye alumnus.
Rather shocking to see Tubby Smith coaching High Point, alma mater or not. A genuinely odd place to take your natty trophy, though it seems he's winding down his career by giving his son a head start at his first HC job by succeeding him.
North until you smell it, west until you step in it
I didn't see the game and my first thought was "who the hell is High Point?".
I think they make guns or something.
In my experience their nines are junk.
They are slabs, but surprisingly hard to break (well maybe not surprisingly given my description). Their pistols make me shudder, but I do have a soft spot for the carbine. Budget fun.
I've only shot a few of their nines. Their inaccuracy scared me from trying any others. I know one of their original owners. He helped build them in his garage in the beginning.
In Mansfield of all places.
Great job basket Bucks. Sorry didn't watch game cause I was enjoying watching Mythigan get their asses STOMPED!
Fuck eSECpn and fuck Mythigan.
Thought that was Washington's most complete game so far. He's come in most of the season looking to just shoot and it's gotten him in the doghouse at times. He came in and just played team ball. If the shot was there... shoot... if the pass was there... pass... some fantastic passes.. Came in averaging basically 1 turnover a game and had zero and 1 assist a game and had 3... nice to see the development...
Funny to see the op say the second half was all osu, both halves were won by nine points. Perception, if one team doesn't make a run, then the home team played a much better half. hmm
We also played our backups at the end of the 2nd half.
I never knew High Point was a school until today.
The lord of brevity.
Woods is an excellent player and his efforts bring us steady influence and make the three guard rotation viable! I expect that we are truly about to miss Diop against sparty, his ability to defend any of their 6'6" - 6'9" players allowed us to get away with some bad match ups! I would start Kyle over Andre against them yet then they just pack it in! Sadly a tough and long day at the office!
