Some cool friends - and great memories these guys will have

Great story!  People talk down about kids all the time now and how lazy and entitled they are.  I have a ton of college kids volunteering with me at Special Olympics and they are just great kids.  These kids at Orange are go-getters and will do well in college and beyond.

So very true and sad.  There are a lot of kids that work extremely hard, and there are some very lazy.   However, every generation says how lazy next generation is.  For example, "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."  This was written by Socrates - only about 2400 years ago.

You will find it about kids in the 1800's though today.   Get off your high horse folks - we may be older but that does not mean that all of us worked harder.

The lack of class in the Twitter comments from TUN fans toward Zach is sad and astonishing.

Another 11W poster calls them skunk weasels. This is just another reason why.

Seeing the graphics of Harrison for PSU and UM make me want to throw up. So glad they didn’t become reality.

This was a great read. Long, but I couldn't quit until I got to the end. Good for those kids, an experience they'll always remember.

Really cool story. Just some friends of a superstar high school athlete who also happen to be really creative, smart, and clever. Maybe one of these young men will be working for Eleven Warriors or creating graphics for Ohio State one day.

Mad props to the Orange classmates and staff for working together so well to produce this event.  Very impressive.

This is a cool story - glad these kids took advantage of the opportunity and ran with it.  Makes for some amazing memories and stories to tell!

Nice for all.  When you get old (dirt in your minds) you'll remember the details for life.

Great story. It’s so important for folks swept up into the public domain to have a small circle of friends they know they can trust for a lifetime. Great job gents. And thanks for being part of the reason why Zach stayed home. GO BUCKS!!!

Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.

Story reminds us just how close Harrison was to going to scUM.  In this case, the 62-39 beatdown had another longlasting positive effect.  He wasn’t wearing all that scUM gear just to play games.  Great ending all around!  Go Bucks!

HS
Run_Fido_Run's picture

Reading this story, it does sound like the 62-39 beatdown completely flipped the script on Harrison's decision.

If that's true and Harrison goes on to be an elite college player, it's amusing to think just how much the legend of "62-39" might grow and take on a life of its own five, ten, and more years into the future. When college football fans look back on the 2018 version of The Game, will it be one of those big culture defining forks-in-the-road that we never forget and which gets passed on to the next generation?

Yeah.  I really wonder why that game had such a big impact.  I've always felt if 1 game made you wishy washy you really didn't want to be there in first place.  But I do think this game will be huge in OSU lore.  I will always remember this game for a couple reason.  Shelly Meyer crying I knew that was the end for Urban.  The stoping of the revenge tour.  Also this game told me that we will never have it fair.  How do you beat the #4 team by 4 scores and not get into the CFB.  Nobody will ever be able to convince me that our schedule wasn't miles better then Oklahoma.  Also at least we've won the whole thing.  We get to watch Alabama just crush this team.

Cool read, except for him wearing MI gear during the OSU- MI game.

This is a great lesson for kids. By their own admission, these kids who started Orange Sports Live never intended to create extra work for themselves. They had an idea and just started toying around with a project, which began as a low key and low maintenance hobby. They were passionate about Olentangy h.s. sports and were used to "playing around" on social media just for fun, so it felt natural enough to connect those two domains. Before they knew what hit them, they were working hard on this fun side project but it never felt like work.

I'm very happy he chose to stay home and wear the scarlet & gray. I just can't understand why a kid from Lewis Center even considered scUM, especially if you really want to win B1G championships with the possibility of getting in the final 4 to complete for NC's. If it were my son, and both OSU and scUM were recruiting him, ichigan wouldn't even be an option. After disliking somebody for 40 years, there is 0 chance I could ever root for them.

This is an incredible article. So well crafted. I love the behind the scenes info this gives us - just a couple guys living a dream they created through friendship and hard work. Excellent.

I don't like nice people. I like tough, honest people.

In regards to Harrison's recruitment, there has been mention of the 62-39 victory being a factor, another significant recent event they may have had an impact is the retirement of Coach Meyer. There is the possibility Harrison was more fond of Day than Meyer.

Awesome article. Very impressive what these young men have done.

Great story. I believe that Zach Harrison will be a great player at Ohio State. Even more, he will be a high character leader. Glad he is a Buckeye.

My guess is he contributes to the D Line day 1.  Young, Cooper, Harrison and a few other experienced D linemen and a few younger guys like Tommy T, Vincent, etc.

Larry Johnson has to be excited and Ohio State fans should be too.

Go Bucks.

I understand the one guy going to BGSU to play baseball, but the other guy needs to come to OSU and intern in the football social media team.

What a wonderful group of friends! What a moment to have and for the young recruit to share with those who mattered to him;

I've been in bands, recorded music and run live sound. It can be really hectic to put things together, especially with little time. These guys showed up big time for their friend.

See I read the story as to how down to earth Zach is that he included so friends in this decision of a lifetime. It could be easy to get caught up and “big time” people but he didn’t which truly tells you about his character. Bucks are getting a good one.

If you get a chance, check out the BuckeyeExtra podcast feature on Harrison and his family and their experience with his senior season and recruitment. This is one down-to-earth kid and family; there is zero bullshit in their desire to have Zach have a normal high school senior year and family life.

What an AWESOME story, these kids did a great job. Thanks 11W for this. I love stories like this. My oldest son is the head of the "Tech" dept at his High School and does this very same thing and runs all the media for his school.  These kids don't get the credit they deserve, people behind the scenes who make everything happen so we can enjoy a wonderful moment. Great stuff
