If there's any justice, Haskins will declare, Martell will transfer, and Fields will transfer but get denied immediate eligibility.
Since there is no justice, they will somehow end up with their entire roster intact and eligible, and probably even add some other unknown ICBM-armed cyborg yet to be identified, programmed explicitly to rip out our spleens.

I figured it would help cement the reality of all the blood the simple bastard shed during four years of psycho hallucinating mirages contrary to the reality he accomplished dick as a Tasmanian Gerbil up north. It seemed like the human thing to do at the moment. I was drunk.
The good, the bad, the ugly...Buckeye for life.
Game on, man. Game on.
Also, as others have indicated, dang, Day has hit the treadmill running. Guy has been the official head coach just 3 days, and already wrapped-up two of the highest-rated recruits in OSU history (I know that's a bit misleading because Harrison signed in December, but still...)
Bresee.... you're next.
That's not misleading. Harrison knew Day was going to be the coach before he made his decision.
Twitter is buzzing that a plane left Columbus bound for Baton Rouge. Supposedly Day is on his way to recruit the CB coach from LSU to Ohio State. This - if true - is also huge.
Linebackers coach / DC at LSU is very good. Well paid though.
Let's see how "Tate the Great" handles this. Let the competition begin... I am a big fan of Tate, how can you not like the kid from Vegas with all that swagger...
What we can't do in the air we'll do on the ground.
Im a fan of Tate too. Just concerned about his size hurting him in a competition with a similar talent like Fields
If you remove Fields from the UGA class and put him in the OSU class then OSU has the highest ranked class of 2018.

The OSU fan is too young and should have his hands in his pockets...
I have to say Tate is not going to back down. He is a warrior and I actually think this most likely makes him even better. Which of course is a win win for tOSU
So unfortunately true. You could put Baldwin's name in there as well. I say let the competition begin and no one should think anyone is getting handed the starting job just because of a recruiting ranking.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
I really want to see tall Baker Mayfield (Baldwin) get some playing time at OSU. Seriously though his personality may not be Mayfield but watch his accuracy and ball placement for easy RAC, I'd say his play is pretty close to his Lake Travis alumni (Also how the fuck is that coach still at Lake Travis after 8 D1 QB's in a row? you'd think a college would scoop him up.) If they're going the way of the passer he's serious competition for anybody.
I agree 100% with you there. It seems like most have forgotten about Baldwin simply because of Fields recruiting rankings which we will know doesn’t always add up to anything in college. The race in my opinion is between 3 guys here in Baldwin, Martell and Fields. Let the games begin!!

I agree. I'm not blow away with what Fields was at GA. Tate and him could be a great 1-2 punch though. Baldwin probably has the best arm of the 3 QBs.

I really do hope his waiver is granted, that would be awesome. And if he does beat out Tate, who's been in the program for 2 years then it means Fields is really excelling.
The NCAA is not going to take the stand of refusing a players ability to leave a racist environment. Could you imagine the outrage.
Too true, the NCAA tied their own hands up.
Ua Mau ke Ea o ka 'Aina I ka Pono. The life of the land is preserved in righteousness. (Hawai'i state motto) Aloha nui kakou.
For once, Twitter mobs will be useful. The NCAA will be too afraid of a Twitter backlash to deny the hardship waiver.
I hope he gets to play immediately too, but one guy on the baseball team using a racial slur does not equate to a “racist environment,” especially for someone on the football team.
I'm not certain that he'll get the waiver.
I think he'd have to prove it was more than just the one baseball player. Georgia took action and removed the baseball player from the team.
There are bad apples on most teams in the nation. There are racists in probably every state. It sucks, but it exists.

IMO, Fields would not be transferring to Ohio State if Haskins planned to stay at Ohio State in 2019.
The Spring Game should be fun. I get the feeling Tate will be transferring out, though. He is too competitive and ego driven to stick around when/if he gets passed-up by Fields on the depth chart.
Whoso would be a man, must be a non-conformist.
It's a stretch but why wouldn't he? The 2019 starting QB is still up in the air and we don't even know if Fields will be given immediate eligibility. If his appeal is denied, it would be better for Haskins to be our quarterback for one more year before taking over as to Martell being the quarterback of the 2019 season. Just a thought but I completely believe Haskins is gone.
No way the NCAA denies his hardship waiver request, given the circumstances. He'll be eligible for spring ball.
The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.
Huh? Just because he was beat out by Fromm? It's not like the coach changed or there was scandal at the school.
Then you haven't heard about the racial comments made to him and the Georgia student athlete being kicked off the team because of it . Try to keep up...
NCAA says the wait year is for academic purposes... They were considering an academic exception for the 19-20 season... Think he had offers from Ivy league schools, so, he is probably a good student... If his academics are in order, combined with the racial incident, think he absolutely gets the waiver...
sorry didn't mean for that to come out so snarky. But that racial info has been public for over two weeks now.
You need to understand that there is no racially intimidating environment on the UGA football team. A baseball player, not from the football team, made a racially charged comment. Pffft, big whoop. The NCAA won't let that smear the football program; you can bet the SEC Commissioner will never allow that to happen. If that were cause then every player who ever wants to transfer could make the same claim. Not gonna happen.
The circumstances being one guy on the baseball team using a racial slur towards someone on the football team is far from a slam dunk (to add a third sport to the mix) situation. Especially considering the fact that the player in question was kicked off the team, I don’t see how they can argue it’s a bad situation for him in Georgia unless they think the entire team needs to transfer to be safe.
if Haskins stays, Fields is next up, and I see Martell leaving.
Tate is the starting QB if Haskins leaves. No way that Fields, who was beat out by Fromm, can beat out a talented QB like Tate who has 2 years experience in the program. But Fields does have 3 years of eligibility remaining, so he will develop and win the start in the future
If he doesn't get immediate eligibility and Haskins stays, where would you get more out of that year? With Day and Yurcich.
"I was tired of trying to work my way around the back so I just ran him over.” -Joey Bosa, PSU 10/25/14
I think there's no way Fields would be heading to OSU if Haskins was staying. We know those two have been talking for awhile, think they have been talking about just this. Hell, I could be wrong though, and I would not have a single complaint!
Blessed to be a Buckeye
Correct - and he and Dwayne seem fairly close, so they've likely had conversations.
Tate will be transferring out, though.
Would not be surprising or disappointing if Fields pans out. Tate talks way too much for somebody that has accomplished nothing at OSU.
If you continue to think what you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. #AlumforStaff
Or maybe he wants to work side by side with Dwayne, while learning the finer points of the position from Coach Day? Ryan Day has become a big draw for QBs who want to throw the ball. Much like Hartline has become a draw for receivers. There is a lot to be learned from Haskins...he himself said it took him 2 years to be ready to go. I'm sure that's something he has discussed with Fields. And who better to watch and learn from than the guy who made Days offense so dynamic? Fields wants to play for sure. There is no downside for him if Dwayne stays though.
That would be nice, 1 more year for Haskins, with Fields learning along the way.
I've never been a Martell fan, his comments that last week or two have taken my feelings of him from Neutral to Dislike.
That's about where I am too.

I just hope this doesn’t hurt the team chemistry. The team seems close as ever right now. Fields needs to prove that he’s a team guy.
I'm sure Day took this into consideration when Fields first started expressing interest. Risk-reward.
Agreed, but that's a two-way street. While he needs to 'earn' his way in, they have to allow him to do so. An outsider coming in is hard for everybody
Why, all of a sudden, do we think the 84 grown men on this team care so much for the feelings of some true sophomore that's done nothing at tOSU?
If you say the best player at each position plays and then actually do it...no problem.
I am all for giving Fields a try. Welcome J.F.!
Having said that I have reservations on Fields ability and desire to stay and learn. I keep remembering PSU and then UGA now tOSU. We do know that one of his previous QB mentors has openly praised and recommended Ryan Day as a mentor for any QB recruit. His relationship with Haskins has definitely helped in his decision to come aboard. GO BUCKS!

Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
This is beautiful
This is equal parts fantastic and troubling. A+, would upvote again.
It actually looks better than the Urban version I made, to be honest.
Boom! How ironic is it that I wondered how we failed to get in on him before it was too late, only for him to end up here anyway...

Thank Georgia and their steadfast commitment to Jake Fromm for that.
It is a funny world. I remember not being happy when it looked like he was going to Crappy Valley, and then enjoying some schadenfreude when he dumped them for GA. Now we get a twofer! Happy Friday everyone!

Lefty, Same here! I was pissed that PSU landed him and was disappointed that we were never under consideration when he ditched them. Cannot believe we are actually landing him now!! By all accounts, he outperformed the heck out Trevor Lawrence at Elite 11.

Welcome to the fam.
Really quick, does anyone know how Shea got his waiver? I'm not mad at it for happening, but curious to know if there are some parallels or what it might take for Fields to be able to play. Was Patterson's situation so different?
Proudly dispensing unbridled arrogance since 1983.
Don't you worry about that. Many people have and are saying his waiver should be a slam dunk. I don't care how just as long as it's true.
There can be only one
Ya, and I know I'm essentially asking for an explanation into the thinking of NCAA officials.
He basically said Ol Miss lied to him about any penalties so they let him play.
"Come on, you sons of b!tches! Do you want to live forever?" -- Dan Daly, WWI
Don't do that. You will drive yourself crazy trying to understand the NCAA's thinking.
I definitely think it’s a slam dunk. Not worth it to argue this if you’re Georgia. They don’t need to bring any more attention to this racism accusation.
"Man I wish everyone stop saying I beat a kid in the hospital 91-35.... It was 98-35, had 91 with 1:26 left in the 4th"

When the story first ran, the reporting students commented that it was far from unusual to hear racial slurs on campus. I don't know at all if that is true or not, or if so, if it is discrepant from other campuses, but you could imagine that Georgia does not want an "Athens is racist" narrative to build in contesting this transfer.
Shea's waiver was granted on the assumption he was misled by the Ole Miss staff on the severity of the sanctions that were about to be levied. Which was bullcrap, because his brother was on staff.
Fields has the same lawyer allegedly, and I imagine a racially charged incident is a pretty easy case for him to make.
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Plus UGA basically acknowledged it by kicking the baseball player off the team right?
Me likey. Me Likey lots.
UGA has never denied it.
Yep. Off the team. Not off campus, though. Gotta imagine that the Fields team has that fact in their back pocket.
The fact that they kicked him off the team means it’s no longer a “situation” though. That plus they were on different teams. I hope it works but think it’s a stretch to be honest.
The Rebels had sanctions from the previous regime.
Fields is hiring the same lawyer.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
This is pure comedy. I dont know how it happens but the camera always catches the best reactions from franklin. I remember after the amazing comback in 2017 the camera focused in on franklin for a good 3 to 5 seconds. He looked like a guy who gambled his retirement away. I want him to stay at PSU to see moments like these
He looked like a guy who gambled his retirement away
Maybe he did.
I believe if we wouldn't have choked, or they hadn't made the two fluke special teams, that would have been his last season at State Penn.
Wasn't Fields committed to PSU or the thinking was that would be his final destination during his initial recruitment?

That's correct. Exactly why I posted this. Two wins against PSU in 1 year? I'll take it.

Ahh BRBuckeye beat me to it! (And is more savvy with posting actual gifs)
Tate Martell is still correct in his thoughts. He's got a 2-year head start in this race....however, adding a freak like Justin Fields to the roster can never be a bad thing. Go Bucks!
The only issue is, I don't think Tate fits what Day and Yurich will want to do. I, admittedly know nothing about Tate, but Tate is a run-QB, while Fields (from what I hear) is more of a QB who can run.
Tate has not endeared himself with his reactions to Fields' potential transfer. While he hasn't been completely irrational, he reminds me a bit of Clark after Tate committed.
Not disagreeing with anything you said, but Tate is still correct that Ryan Day's offense is essentially an NFL playbook that is very complicated from a passing concept and protection standpoint. Expecting someone to come in and be able to run with the 1s immediately is a lot to ask even for a guy like Justin Fields (who we just saw could NOT beat out Jake Fromm at UGA). I am excited about Justin Fields on the roster. I have been incredibly high on him for more than 2 years and this, no doubt, improves the Ohio State football team overall product they're going to put on the field this fall.
You made a big point here that a lot of people are missing: For how special he is, Fields couldn't beat out Fromm, or even get a chance to unseat him at any point during this season.
Or, Kirby/Fromm are similar to Urban/JT. Haskins is clearly a better QB than JT, but there was no way Urban was benching JT.
A fair counterpoint. I've heard and read multiple accounts that his attitude wasn't great either. I guess we'll see how it goes.
Jumar, you nailed it. I have tried to use this example repeatedly. There is so much more at play than who is “better”. A lot of UGA fans wanted to see Fields playing this year.
Ask UGA fans and they'll tell you that Kirby has an unreasonable love affair with Fromm. They don't believe Joe Montana could unseat him.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Fromm is not a total bum. They are both very highly rated QB's and Fromm got there first and basically lead UGA to a national championship game and was a leader...unfortunately for him Saban had a guy better than him. The situation we are in now at OSU is totally different because our guy will go to the draft. I doubt if Haskins stays Fields would beat him out.
Fromm managed to have the highest Adjusted QBR rating vs Alabama of any QB this year, including Tyler Murray/OK
You had me until you said Fields would beat out the Baby Faced Assassin. Fields couldn't beat out Fromm and Fromm can't carry #7's jock.
At what point in my post did I say Fields would beat Haskins? I said the exact opposite...I was saying that when Fields got to UGA Fromm had already cemented his role...this was in response to people wondering if Fields is worth taking since he couldn't beat out Fromm. I was starting the same thing would happen here if Haskins stayed...he would not beat Haskins because Haskins has the job and has cemented himself as QB 1 until he decides to leave.
Fromm lead them to the title game as a freshman and is projected as a top-3 pick in 2020. It's not like Fields was behind a scrub.
Haskins couldn’t “beat out” Barrett either.
An ironic possibility . . . in the 2019 season, Martell is the primary QB, but they bring in Justin Fields occasionally to run wildcat in the red zone . . .
Wildcats in the Buckeye Offense result in the same thing no matter who gets the snap: 2nd and 10.
And Danny Clark transfers via hardship waiver and lines up at TE
AKA the Horseshoe, the Shoe, and the House That Harley Built
I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong on this, but there's no way Justin Fields transfers here and doesn't start whenever he is eligible. He is a Terrelle Pryor-level of a freak athlete. He's coming here to play.
A Terrelle Pryor level of freak athlete who is also an accurate downfield passer.
Wow. This is coming together fast.
Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
So much for a boring offseason.
My thoughts exactly. Plus, there's still time in the recruiting window to snag a couple of guys. Anyone want to play on the same team as Justin Fields?
Paging George Pickens...
I wish we had made more headway with Jadon Haselwood before the Fields to Columbus movement started. He has seemed really impressionable his whole recruitment.
love Tate and his competitiveness but his tweets and comments lately are not conducive to creating a championship culture in the locker room. Need him to go out and compete without the drama of crying about it on social media. Fields is going to be the starter if he is even half the talent people say he is.
If you think you're having a bad day you could be Twitter Tate Martell
Competitors don’t just roll over and give up. Haskins was the starter for good reason this year but Tate was ready whenever his number was called.
I’m trusting the coaching staff to give the job to whoever proves they’re best to lead this team next year, whether that’s fields, martell, or Baldwin.
Seems to me that unless Fields doesn't put in the work or simply can't grasp the offense he will be the starter. That said, we've seen Tate run about 30 snaps when he had the entire playbook available to him, so none of us has any idea how good he is. Like you said, I trust Day and the staff to figure it out.
Competitors don’t just roll over and give up.
Isn't that what Justin Fields kind of just did?
I don't like nice people. I like tough, honest people.
Fields believed be was better than jake fromm. Given the performance of Fromm in all their losses (which happened to be their biggest games), hard to blame him for being mad/upset about not getting his real chance. It wasn’t like Fromm was putting up Haskins numbers all year.

This is absolutely gigantic!!! It would be shocking to not see him start.
Spring practice just got very interesting...
Damn, I kind of feel bad for Tate, but what's best for the programs comes first and obviously Day and company fill Fields brings something to the table. None the less.... BOOOOOOOM
I have appreciated Tate's commitment to the team. I like his drive. I like his swagger. I don't love the twitter stuff but see it as a confident guy that believes he will win the job.
That being said, Tate was absolutely perfect for the Urban offense that we saw with JTB. I simply don't see him running an offense like we saw Haskins run this year.
this makes me so excited for next season! would be a great get for Day, and for the team

He’s got the next 3 years to improve. He will be very, very good.

He has no basis for immediate eligibility and should not be granted it. That said if people thought Haskins was good in Day's offense just wait until you see Fields in it as he can also run.
Being stuck with Pep Hamilton never felt so depressing.
I kind of feel bad for TTUN.
NOT. The thought of their tears are delicious.
Came for the halftime show - fell in love with game.
Oh the window opened alright and in flew a shitstorm the likes ttun has never seen!
There you go!
Saw the report that former 5-star #UGA QB Justin Fields is transferring to #OhioState. I can confirm that he is on the OSU campus there now. Would expect more details in the next 24 hours or so.

BOOM! 5* !!
Ryan Day seems to have this recruiting thing down.
And it's been a pretty good week. Rose bowl victory. Jordan Fuller and Malik Harrison staying. Land top transfer QB. Hire one of the best offensive assistants out there for the passing game. Maybe stealing the best recruiter and developer from TTUN.
Happy New Year!
Ryan Day seems to have this recruiting thing down.
Urban who?? JK..;)
I was reading about this but forgot who the guy is from TTUN?
If this does pan out, talk about a shift in fortunes for the East Division. Not to long ago, Fields was committed to PSU and would be their starting QB in 2019. Now it looks like he’ll be leading the charge for Buckeye Nation while PSU has a lot more Q than answers with their offense.

Honestly, as long as Don Brown continues to play this ridiculous cover 1 defense Ryan Day and Justin Fields will have a "Field Day" pun intended.
You have to hate everyone of those bitches over there. Trashy fan base from top to bottom and deserve all the bad things that happen to them.
They seriously think OSU pays trolls to flame their blogs. And Twitter flame Harbaugh. Umm...wut? Why would we need to? Hes a walking turd burger without anyone else's help...
Height of hypocrisy for them to be crying about transfers when they were pretty much trying to poach an entire team.
If the NCAA grants his waiver it will be a very interesting QB battle this Spring and Fall. Obviously, everyone is still waiting for Haskins decision, but I think that decision was made already and he'll be the first quarterback drafted. Hope Tate sticks to his word and fights for the starting position. While Fields seems to have more upside then Martell or Baldwin, leadership is an important intangible that could factor into who gets named starter.
If the NCAA grants his waiver
I assure you this will be the fastest waiver granting in NCAA history. NCAA doesn't want to touch this one with a 10 foot pole. I'm willing to bet it will take 24 hours or less and be announced overnight on a news dump to hopefully be buried by the morning nationally.
The fastest decision in NCAA history could still mean a few months.
^^This^^ No way does the NCAA want to open that can of worms of denying a kid immediate eligibility because of a racism incident...Holy moly would the PC crowd go insane.

Jim Harbaugh right now - "I DECLARE... BANKRUPTCY!!"
If only our finest GIF-makers could put Harbaugh's head on this:
Alright Tate...talking time is over...
Fields of Dreams
So, is that the 2017 top rated dual threat QB and the 2018 top rated dual threat QB in the same room? Honest question.
I believe so.
But will Braxton throw?
Start a thread in the forum to figure it out
They hate us cuz they aint us!! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Didn't see that coming. What does Baldwin have to say about this?
Run up the score early ...so I can get Q4 snaps
Still trying to figure out how someone who couldn't beat out an just ok college qb, whose going to learn a brand new system, and adjust to new team is the FAVORITE to land the starting spot. Can he do it yes? But Tate clearly has an advantage heading into the spring and is probably the real favorite.
That's an oversimplified way of looking at Fields's decision, Kasino. After a whole year in Georgia's offense (he enrolled early), he could see that it was more designed for the pro-style that Georgia and Kirby Smart favor and that undeniably favors Fromm and their endless stable of stud RBs. He said he had no issues with Fromm or the football program. Couple in the racist incident (however much weight you give this, it has to be considered) and you have some pretty compelling reasons for why he felt he may not thrive in Athens.
Exactly right. And no shame in Fields taking a year to get settled in while Tate or Baldwin lead us through 2019-20 undefeated. Maybe Fields will pick up the offense immediately, but Haskins and Tate took 2 years of bench time to get ready. Probably why Haskins sat last year despite superior arm talent to a larger extent than the average fan would realize. Takes some time to learn this offense, regardless of talent. Hopefully Fields is coming in part because he sat a year in Athens and realized the culture was counterproductive to his long term goals, and he's willing to get a fresh start in a better environment.
Haskins couldn't beat out JT and he will be the first QB taken in the draft...its always more than just pure talent.
Haskins was not allowed to beat out JT.
Think thats the point... Was Fields allowed to beat out Fromm ???... I do think the situations are similar...
Absolutely correct!! in my opinion.
I'm still trying to figure out why no one remembers that Fromm started as a freshman and almost won it all for UGA. Took them to the verge of the CFP his second year. How is he average? Tate has done absolutely zero for OSU on the field. Would Tate act like this if the no. 1 quarterback from high school was coming in? It's essentially the same thing. Would the fan base be cool with it if that was the case? Have we forgotten that we're getting a new passing coordinator? Some things in that playbook are going to change. Has anyone thought about how Baldwin feels about Tate saying he guarantees he'll start next year? I keep hearing how everyone thinks Tate is ballsy for saying everything he has, but what kind of balls does Fields have for transferring to OSU with Tate doing all that talking knowing he has a two year head start on him? Knowing he has to win over the locker room? Fields still went to OSU, unpacked his shit and didn'tsay one word. Now that I think about it I'd be a little scared too if I were Tate.
Yeah, me too. Fromm's really good. By no means is he average/mediocre/whatever.
The same reason Craig Krenzel won us a national championship and guys like Joe Flacco, Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson won Super Bowls.
To think Ohio State went from JT Barrett to Dwayne Haskins to Justin Fields in a calendar year is the best transfer of a position in college football I've ever heard of. Blessings upon blessings!
Veni, Vidi, Vici. I came, I saw, I conquered.

My man Day's not effing around, is he????
I would've sent a check but I already sealed up the envelope...

Oh My....and the scuttle butt that the dolphins want Hairball in Miami....should have mgo in meltdown mode by now.
Enjoying daily the 62-39 ttun beatdown.
so what I am curious about is his skill as a passer. Reason being the dude Yurcich that just got brought in has only really worked with passing QBs that throw the ball all over the place. I do wonder if Day is trying to get Dwayne to stay with this guy. maybe, maybe not. (could just be wishful thinking)
I guess only time will tell.
Wilson is technically the Offensive Coordinator in charge of the running game, and honestly I think his role got bigger with Day's promotion - at least for this year. Hopefully the two mesh well and regardless of which QB starts we still see a healthy portion of Dobbins, Snead (?), Teague, etc.
Everything that happens-good and bad-should motivate you to be persistent. ~JT
Go watch the Elite 11 camp last year... They say Fields was the most impressive QB they have had in years... Fields couldnt really use his athletic ability, had to use his arm and mind...
I watched the tape and some of his game film. You are right - Fields was throwing bullets, and touch passes. He was blowing out the competition, including the kid from Clemson. Throwing the ball all over the field will not be a problem.
Love it. Lets gooo!
Has he declared a Major?
He's going to Major in Ass-Kicking.
BUS1100: Intro to ass-kicking
BUS4102: Intermediate round-house techniques, gluteal area
PE8010: Leg strength training
UVC101: University survey
You forgot the one taught by UFM, Ethical ass-kicking.
Out Work, Out Think, Out Play!!!
Correct, but he'll need to complete UVC survey first - undeclared majors can't take management science classes ;) Only those who used to have to deal with UVC can fully appreciate this prerequisite madness...
LOL @UVC 101. I had totally forgotten about this class. Thanks for the reminder.
He's going to Major in Ass-Kicking with a minor in Wolverine slaying!
Maybe a double major?
I'd put the odds at 62:39...
You guys have me cracking up at the doctors office. This is why TOSU fans are the best.
Googly eyes...he will always be Ole' Googly Eyes to me.
Boom! Come and compete.
Whatever happens, I hope Day and the staff do what's necessary to make sure that the locker room stays "team first." In other words, do not tolerate selfish and cancerous behavior from anyone.
Ok, Day, now what's up with that defense?
This should put to bed any ideas of Haskins coming back, right?
Smart move kid!
Hard to convince intelligent and sane individuals that a single incident that resulted in action by the university could constitute a pattern of racism that would result in an unsafe playing environment. But since it potentially benefits the Buckeyes it's just great, I suppose.
Understanding your skepticism, as an aging white man, I've never heard someone yell the n-word at me in front of tens of thousands of fans. I'm guessing it would be pretty jarring. Probably more jarring to see the same kid on campus going to classes afterwards. This is definitely a complicated situation, but cultural blindspots pop up everywhere when trying to gauge how a teenager comprehends blatant hate speech being used against him. Some people have asked why more players didn't leave, then. I think that's their question to answer, not Justin Fields'.
So jarring, that you would wait months to do anything about it?
Well, that's my guess, but maybe this is the push-pull of staying with the program vs. leaving, with the added factor of where he fits in football-wise. Again, like many posters on this site, I'll probably never be subjected to hate speech in front of a large audience. I don't know how I'd react. Diminishing or dismissing the impact of it, though, seems ignorant at best.
The hate speech incident really baffles me.
Why would a guy yell a racist epithet when 90% of the football team is African-American? Those are very big dudes that can find that guy around campus and beat the living hell out of him.
I’m going to go with drinking may have been involved.
Yeah, why aren’t black people fine sticking around with people calling them racial slurs?! How sensitive are they? (Heavy sarcasm)
I don’t think that’s the actual reason he’s transferring, or at least not the primary reason, but it’s definitey a good reason.
Maybe but if Patterson gor a waiver by claiming he didn't know what was going on at ole Miss, Fields should definitely get one. Shea knew exactly what was going on... His brother was on staff for Christ's sake.
Class of 2010.
Not sure if you intended the irony here or not, but Goldberg went to UGA if I’m not mistaken so he would be upset by this.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
You are correct sir. He went to UGA and also spent a season or 2 with the Falcons.
How many threads will we have on the QB battle? This is so exciting! Let the battle begin!!!!
Over/Under is 105 by spring ball
All in, on over.
I am happy. Let the games begin. Time for Tate to regulate
Very interested to here what the c-bus baseball player that got a football schollys at ttun has to say about this.
Any word from Twitter Tate?
Another QBgeddon on the Buckeye horizon?
First World problems, etc., etc.
I am not very smart, but I recognize that I'm not very smart. --- W.W. Hayes
This one and others may have actually hatched, but it seems like there has been a lot of chicken-counting going on.
Day so far- Keeps the 3rd highest recruiting class in the nation and 1st in the B10 based on average recruit rating. Recruits the highest ranked prospect in Ohio, keeping him away from PSU and Michigan. Hires the offensive Coordinator from Oklahoma State. Brings in a transferQB who was the second highest ranked prospect in the 2018 class. Not bad.
Outstanding decision Justin and welcome to Buckeye Nation!
Does this mean UGA loses the recruiting title for last year? How does it work?
No way they do that. With the number of transfers now, there is no way the recruiting outlets could keep up.
Did anyone else ever watch Terrelle Pryor and think "man what if this guy had better coaches or a better gameplan"?
I think we'll have our answer.
You can add "better arm" too
What do you mean? Jim Bollman had a plan. /s
Class of 2001 - classless since then.
And didn’t punt with his arm...
I get it but he was put into a position where he wouldn't succeed relative to his skill set. He was asked to do things he couldn't do well and wasn't asked to play his game that much. I'm sure there are reasons for it and he may have been a part of it, but why Pryor wasn't running more power\zone read\RPO type stuff is beyond me and the biggest crime committed to an OSU player in recent memory.
I'm biased but OSU in my unabashed love for TP, but he was a Ferrari that was driven like an Altima.
Mack Brown was quoted as saying he believed we’d win one or two championships with Pryor there, he was so impressed with him.
Yes sir!! Big time news, hopefully he comes in head down and grinds
Hopefully this Georgia QB won’t get caught trying to get a $10 BJ.
Don't listen to Freddy P. Soft
Okay then.... May the best QB win.
And to think I was worried about Dwayne most likely moving on.
I Fields good.
I know that I would.
So good, M...igan sucks, I got this offseason.
I'm not around that much, running exhausted and lost...

"Hi Coach Harbaugh. Ryan Day has been the coach of Ohio State for less than a week and has just brought in the most sought after QB transfer maybe of all time, hired a monster of an offensive coach in Mike Yurcich, and is about to poach your LB coach/best Midwest regional recruiter. How do you plan on responding?"
LOL. At the rate Day is going so far, elevenwarriors had better start looking for additional server capacity.
Don't forget about Taking what would have been the best recruit in their class. (Zach Harrison)
In 2011 ttun won their first game vs us in 8 years. ttun breaths a sigh of relief. Immediately after that we hire Urban Meyer. He goes 7-0 vs them.
In 2018 Urban Meyer retires. ttun breaths a sigh of relief. We immediately get 5* Zach Harrison from their clutches, then get Justin Fields.
Man it must suck to be them.
But there's the value of a UofM degree vs. that diploma factory's degree from Ohio...They're a bunch of mouth-breathing truck drivers down there, you know.
Yeah, when TTUN falls behind in the Big House next year, they'll probably start posting their SAT scores instead!
We are probably a clear cut favorite to win the B10 AND make the playoff.
Hope that hardship waiver goes through. Would be quite the buzzkill if not.
As long as this means we officially won the 2017 recruiting title...
Count Fields along with the returns of Harrison and Fuller and this is quite honestly a pretty darn good recruiting class.
Rough way for this to work out for James Franklin.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
So far, Day is nuking it with the offense. I hope he has some similar plans on the D-side, to get that straightened out. It's never a good way to start a season out by having your D gashed repeatedly.
I want to see the Silver Bullets back in 2019.
Amen. Can’t watch another year like this.
Fields will be a great addition. However, he has to start out as number 3 on the depth chart behind Martell and Baldwin, assuming Haskins goes to the NFL.
totally agree with this ... and I have to believe Day will start him there. We will see how it all ends up in the Fall.
I believe everyone will start equal and the best man wins the job after camp.
Welcome to Buckeye Nation Mr. Fields! We are very happy you chose to join us.
Does this mean we get Jadon Haselwood too?!
Is this where Tate following Kliff Kingsbury on twitter as he is now USC head coach and was formerly commited to while at Texas A&M....
Kliff is the new offensive coordinator. Not the head coach.
LOL Swwwwwwwing and a miss. Kliff is not the head coach of USC and Tate was in 8th grade during his only year as A&M OC.
big news and, of course, good news that he chose tosu, but it could also end up being a mess. the possibility of tate and even baldwin transferring isn't a stretch. you've got miller coming in 2020 and either or both of them might do the math and move on. tate obviously reads these posts and this fan reaction for fields could be demoralizing. we'll read the tea leaves in his next tweets and, of course, baldwin remains quiet.
Are you suggesting that Day doesn't bring in the best possible players because someone's feelings might get hurt? I don't think that's a good idea if you want to see OSU in the playoffs anytime soon.
i don't give a rat's ass about feelings, i'm just laying out a possible scenario. chill...and ease up on the dv dude.
I sure hope this doesn't turn out as a Tonya vs Nancy thing
Naw, you're thinking of Michigan State . . .
Nancy: pretty long hair with girl next door smile = Rocky Lombardi
Tonya: big hair meets mullet = Brian Lewerke
Still can't believe we lost Dwan Mathis.
Haha, I’ll take that trade - Mathis for Fields
Martell and Baldwin are also excellent QBs and deserve a fair chance to win the job. But I agree with the comment above- the key to next season will be our defense and who the DC will be. We need the silver bullets to return.
Harbaugh is the so called QB whisperer but it's clear who the real QB whisperer is! Way to go Coach Day!!! I never thought I would see tOSU as a QB factory but the day has come.
This should be a wild off season we need a Buckeyes Hard Knocks. Day era starting off with some pretty big bangs

What is dead, may never die???
I think we need to slow things down a bit here. Has anyone heard if Yurcich is on board with the addition of this Fields kid? /s
Lets go Tate! Go out and win the job. Have a contagious winning attitude through your play on the field.
Make Will-Way your Way!
Ryan Day is godlike
Tate has had conversations on transferring to Texas AM
I may be in the minority, but I don't see how the NCAA grants him his waiver. It sounds like it was a single, isolated incident, and I believe that student was expelled. We all know he's transferring because of playing time, not because of that idiot. Nevertheless, I still think Tate can win out over Justin. Tate was highly recruited, never lost a HS game IIRC, and has been here for two years. I love his competitive attitude.
He wasn't expelled. He was kicked off the baseball team.
Well, that could practically be expulsion if he loses an athletic scholarship and he hadn't planned to pay tuition/board/meals/books himself.
You are in the minority, but it doesn't mean you're wrong.

I'm with you on enjoying Twitter Tate and all he brings, but I don't think the NCAA wants to get near any racist issues in today's world. They have probably already signed off on his eligibility haha
but I don't think the NCAA wants to get near any racist issues in today's world. They have probably already signed off on his eligibility haha
If they push this through it opens the flood gates! All anyone would have to do to get a pass would be, find someone to yell racial slurs at them on campus.
Antonio Williams transferred out of OSU to UNC and got immediate eligibility. I don't recall him having some monstrous reason to warrant a transfer. I think the NCAA is just getting more lenient on transfers.
It would be a risky move for the NCAA. It is fine to like Martell more but it is strange to root against other Buckeye or potential Byckeye players.
I am just not sold on the guy at all. If he is the best guy than I want him out there, but I have seen him play. It has been mixed this past season. Fields may not be anything more or not. I just do not think not losing in high school means much. The being there and knowing the system is his biggest edge, along with his physical gifts.
I don't think "NCAA blocks transfer of black player trying to escape racist attacks, fears for safety" is the grounds the NCAA would choose to fight a battle on transfer eligibility.
The optics of this alone as one of those "let's just let this one go" things.
We all know he's transferring because of playing time, not because of that idiot
I'm not sure we all know this. I agree with you 100% that playing time and Georgia's style of offense are major factors here, but suggesting that the incident was no big deal is mistaken. Yelling the "n-word" in a crowded football stadium at an African-American player is a big, big deal.
Having to compete against a QB of similar talent that's 2 years advanced in the system and a looming, highly possible year of sitting out, the deck is really stacked against Fields. If he can overcome all that he definitely deserves to play, but it's going to be a real challenge. I honestly think the end result of all this is going to be quite sobering and if a QB we actually recruited is on his heels with Martell slightly ahead, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't transfer again. Best of luck to the young man though. Now that he's a Buckeye I'm rooting for him.
Hello drama................ I for one am not terribly excited about this.
The only drama I can see coming out of this is if Tate continues to run his mouth on social media. Iron sharpens iron. This will make the team better and more competitive.
For what it's worth, here are the messages I received from a good friend who is a UGA fan this morning:
"This makes no sense. He had to sit one more year learning from a great field general in Jake Fromm. Then he'd be a pro prospect after starting the 2020 season."
"I don't know how athletic he actually is. He never actually showed breakaway speed. He's a quitter at heart and the fake punt in the SEC championship game showed a huge lack of awareness. It's 4th and 8, coach calls a fake, the defense lines up in a 4-2-3, anyone with fucking eyes knows to check out of the fake"
"All season they fried forcing him on the field for PT and he never made a single highlight"
"He's a less mature JT Barret"
I'll include the disclaimer that he is obviously upset by this news; but this is the general feeling I get from the other UGA fans I know after this season. They all seem disappointed overall with his time at UGA in just about every aspect.
It's called being massively butthurt my friend.
I have a friend who is a UGA fan and he's so pissed at Kirby Smart for it ultimately coming to this, he's swears up and down that Fields should have been starting since mid season. He's even went so far to say he's going to catch a couple more OSU games if Fields transfers. They all seem to share the same sentiment that they (UGA) let a phenomenal player walk. Jake Fromm is a game manager, I understand their pain.
I thought it was pretty well assumed that Fromm was an elite QB. Funny how UGA fans forget that he sliced open the vaunted Bama Defense. Their loss in the SEC championship was not on Fromm. It just goes to show the most popular guy on the team is often the backup QB — even if that popularity is illogical.
I wouldn’t call him elite and yes the SEC championship wasn’t on him but he still didn’t do what was necessary to win.
Assuming Fromm would have left after his junior year.
Agreed. Plus, this sounds exactly like what one of our fans would have said if Haskins had transferred when JT got the starting job for his 14th year here.
I shared all of your comments with him- he said best of luck to us and Fields.

Big BOOM on my birthday
That's a Buckeye touchdown!
Looking at his HS highlights ...
What stands out to me is Fields' awareness in the pocket. He makes defenders look foolish. He can throw it on a dime on the run.
The only thing I didn't see was his touch on short-to-intermediate passes, but maybe that was because he wasn't asked to do that.
I was going to post about his HS highlights as well. I know they are just highlights, but pretty much all that is shown is the deep ball. Can he throw anything else? I haven't seen any highlights from his limited action at Georgia, but what kind of throws did he make there?
No doubt, it's a new Day in Columbus! Adding Fields only makes the QB room a lot better. However, I could see Tate transferring if Fields beats him out this spring. Hope we'll keep him and Baldwin for depth at QB. Keep it going Coach Day!
The fact that I’m attending TOSU in the fall makes this news even better.
I spend the majority of my school day on 11W
I have no concerns about the QB situation. All of the 3 guys are quality and capable to bring home a national championship. My concern is the O line and the ability to adapt to the offensive play scheme and the QB executing it. We could have Wilson with an RPO scheme coaching Martell, Day with mesh concept scheme coaching Baldwin ("Day's Guy"), and Yurcich with the Air Raid offense coaching Fields. If the O line is capable to adjusting between the 2 or 3, and the QBs are selfless and not worried about their personal stats... we might be able to plug it 2 different offensive schemes depending on the opponent. Of course this was one of the problems our defensive had when Schiano wanted the FS and the SS to be interchangable and inside CB to be able to play outside CB too...
I think we are a O Line driven team so if the O Line is better at executing one of these offenses, then I think that respective QB will have the advantage.
My idea offensive strategy is... tell the Offensive to execute tempo and play fast. Have a philosophy to be up 5 to 6 scores ASAP so that they can give the next guy on the depth cart reps. This will be a play smart/fast/efficient to give your brothers an opportunity to play too.
To be honest...I have no concerns about the offense at all....OSU's success in 2019 will be if the defense is fixed
mblow is in full meltdown to boot, they can’t decide between snark over Tate or salt over Fields getting a smoother process than Shea INTerson
Competition breeds excellence. It is Day's job to make the roster as string as humanly possible. They preach "The Brotherhood" all the time. The Brotherhood will come to fruition again with this QB battle. Nobody has been guaranteed a job, and Tate has said.. "Dwayne has made me better".. I firmly believe Fields will make Martell and Baldwin better, and they will make Fields better.
Nick Saban didn't back off on bringing Tua in because he had a National Championship contending QB in Hurts.. look how that worked out.
Hurts was losing him a NC, and he brought Tua in and immediately saw a turnaround in his offense. Tua then preceded to save the game. It's not really a relevant comparison. Plus, Tua is clearly elite.
"The minute I think I'm getting mellow, I'm retiring. Whoever heard of a mellow winner."
im going to have a fields day with this
Tate is most likely gone if Fields is eligible this year and loses the competition. What would Baldwin's reaction be though? I haven't heard anybody mention that. He would only be 1 year behind Fields in eligibility.
All Hail Urbz
BOOOOM BOOOOM BITCHES.
Should be an interesting QB battle this offseason. I'm pumped that Tate is confident and making it known that he'll win the job, now it's time for him to walk the walk.
Who knows who Day will end up choosing, but some tough competition for starting jobs where everyone isn't best friends should make the entire team better and more aggressive. A large portion of this past season made it obvious that there was no threat to any starters and so the starters played with little emotion/care. Hopefully that crap ends under Day - let the best man see the field, whether or not he's a fifth year senior or returning starter
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Welcome aboard Justin!
16-2 is SWEET!
Wonder where that would rank that class now as far as recruiting?
2018 class would be #1 ahead of UGA
Wow ! Very good news. Now may the best man win the competition.
We already had the "Best man" in lb coach davis. But I am excited to see this play out.
God > Family > Buckeyes football
You win with people.
I welcome him with open arms. His potential with Coach Day is truly exciting but he has a lot to learn about our offense.
Fall camp will be fascinating. May the best man win!
Possibly a short succinct text?
Has Fields heard anything from the NCAA?
The Dwayne Train is leaving the station. Still, this is a win. QBgeddon II though...well, that remains to be seen.
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
According to 247Sports' all-time recruit rankings (which date back to 2000), Fields is the highest-rated prospect to ever come to Ohio State.
Off the top of your heads, how was Gerbil Peppers considered a better prospect than Pryor? How is it computed?

If the NCAA says Fields can play this year he is our qb Tate has no chance of beating him out. Some of you get caught up in what Tate says and talk is cheap. Fields is a one in a decade qb while Tate came here after playing on a team of All Stars. He will transfer out and he knows the zone read will not be a option for him. I was elated when he came here but that offense he and everyone else thought would be here is gone. They tried to work him inside the 5 yard line a few times this year and failed most of the time. Haskins is not coming back those that think that keep dreaming and Martell needs to move on if he wants to play football and he will never ever be a NFL draft pick. For that matter Murray better stick to baseball and knows he won't ever play in the NFL either. Smart kid not even going to the workouts he knows.
Barrett to Haskins to Fields to Baldwin or Jack Miller
Osu is pretty much set at qb
Very excited about Fields coming, and will be more excited if our defense returns to Silver Bullet level. A B10 champion 3 peat?
What I like about this is, Day will get to pick which guy he wants. Fields has to come here, work his ass off, and prove he's the guy in order to start this year. If Tate out performs him, it's not as if Fields can just up and transfer again. Tate could transfer out I suppose, but everyone keeps talking about how good Baldwin is anyway, so if Fields won the job and got hurt, sounds like we'll be in pretty good hands.
I think this is a win/win for the Buckeyes overall. We have 2 elite, and 1 handpicked by the head coach QB battling for a starting spot.
Gus Johnson is already practicing: Jus Tin Fields Jus Tin Fields Jus Tin Fields.
1. Hoping his attitude is team first. It’s a crowded qb room. No divas please
2. I like Tate being aggressively optimistic. That’s what competitors do.
3. Wow !! His reel is sick. It’s like Terrel with Dwayne’s Arm. Holy crap!!
Actually brilliant post from Mgoblog
I didn’t see this STpete. I posted it above as well.
I'll go with the known commodity in Tate, until Fields shows me he's the better fit at QB ..... I think that's fair ....
By the way, what if the NCAA, in its infinite insanity, refuses to give Fields his 2019 season ?? I'll just wait for things to clear themselves up .....

Some of the decision-makers in the NCAA’s big bureaucracy are pushing to allow players who reach a GPA benchmark to transfer without having to sit. The “academic exception,” as the NCAA calls it, would take effect in 2019-20. The NCAA has also kicked around an exception for players whose head coaches leave for other jobs.
Neither alteration would fundamentally change college sports. The academic exception would shift a small bit of power from coaches to players. It might lead to an increase in roster turnover. But teams are still bound by NCAA scholarship limits, and many (especially in major football and basketball) are now offering predominantly four-year scholarship deals that limit their flexibility to get into outright free agency.
Not sure if they are still considering this or not...I think if his grades are in order, he gets immediate eligibility... Considering he had Ivy League offers, good chance his academics are good...
But is Tate really more of a "known commodity" than Fields?
They have about similar levels of college experience. Tate has been in the Ohio State system longer, but on the other hand Day never actively recruited Tate, while he has actively recruited Fields.
I'm totally surprised by this!
and so it begins...
BOOM! I've been waiting all day for Justin Fields to make this public on his own. Justin's transfer most likely means that Dwayne Haskins will be gone and should be in my opinion. Justin is an elite talent and will have to earn the trust of his teammates through his leadership and work. All indications are that Justin will be up too the task. Go Bucks!

Let's not get carried away Silver. Not going to quit my day job.
There ya go- it's official.
And now begins Waivergeddon 2019
Good lord, never seen a highlight reel like that, you cannot be serious! I feel for Tate, I figured he would be a more than serviceable QB, but you cannot NOT give this guy every chance to succeed, you have to roll the dice and play him.
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
Same here! I actually counted the yards he flung it it deep. Twice, on the run, he flicked it 55 yards through the air with what looked like no effort. Anyone saying he doesn’t have an arm has not seen what he can do. A rocket for an arm, size, and he’s fast! Very fast.
Things are getting veeeery interesting, as Arte Johnson used to say.
Varys: I've always hated the bells. They ring for horror, a dead king, a city under siege.
Tyrion: A wedding.
Fields dominating the 2017 Elite 11 camp, including Lawrence, which many recruiting sites had above Fields. This dude is going to be special.

Long time reader, first time commenting. Thanks for having me.
I hope i'm not the only one constantly refreshing this site waiting to hear about Dwayne. It seems like everyone has completely written off him coming back. I'm still holding out hope he breaks Keenums record.
My “hot take” on the fields transfer.
Ryan Day is RUTHLESS.
Bringing in Justin Fields when you already have an heir apparent is by all means a ruthless move. Getting a graduate transfer like Brandon Wimbush could have been expected. It’s not a significant threat to your QB in waiting. The same one who, for the past two years has busted his butt and learned your system. No, that would have been expected. Tate would win the job easily and the transfer regulated to being a back up.
But Fields? That’s the same as saying I see your two years and raise you a once in a generation QB. Beat him out and the job is yours, otherwise it’s back to the shadows for you.
Who does this? Saban does. He benched a 21-2 starter for a freshman in The NT game. And it made his TEAM better. Ryan Day just did something Meyer could never do. He didn’t count loyalty, he looked at what would make his team better.
Ryan Day is Ruthless and for that, his teams are going to be dangerous.
