Here's what Rusty Mansell (UGA guy) said about Fields:
"Some rumblings about Justin Fields and FSU last night. According to a trusted source I talked to, that would be a long shot and I think more and more it is Ohio State. He is not allowed to visit schools during this time but he can after the bowl game. This decision will not take long (if he goes and I believe he does) and I would watch Ohio State right now the most."
So it makes sense for JF to stay and get extra bowl practice reps if he can't visit other schools yet. Might as well gain the extra practice.
Thanks for sharing the quote, tried to look for it and couldn't find it.
Ah, didn’t know that he can’t visit. Agree then that this makes good sense.
Fields of Dreams
Sticking around for Sugar Bowl practice is great until a pissed of left tackle does his best impersonation of a matador and lets an equally pissed of DE hit Fields with a low blindside.
You are way out of touch with reality. Players support other players. They realize for Fields it’s a business decision. If anything his teammates are thankful he is sticking through the bowl game which he didn’t have to do. Fans take it personal. Players want what’s is best for their team. It would be no different here if Tate decides to transfer.
I have a friend who is a big Georgia fan and pretty plugged into the university. He is telling me the fans in Athens have turned on Justin. He is saying there are more than a few in the locker room who feel betrayed by him as well. Not sure if those players are linemen but I wouldn’t want to take that chance.
This was to be expected, which is why I think he is 100% gone. I think it comes down to if Dwayne stays at OSU, Fields might come or more likely goes to FSU or Okie. If Dwayne leaves, I think its 90% Fields comes here. Crazy but it looks that way. Whomever starts gets to hand off to a very hungry JK Dobbins and we should have some real talent at TE and wideout. The offense is gonna be good one way or another.
Lol I said it in the other thread but Dwayne is 100% gone. He's going in the first round next April. He's close with Fields if we're the leader and assumed destination for Fields from all these insiders surely we can put 2 and 2 together?
Btw ever insider will tell you he's already gone too. So this isn't me guessing.
I hear the baseball team doesn’t care for him.
That's the difference between the Bucks fanbase and these rabid hilljacks down south. I haven't heard any ill will wished towards Dwan Mathis. Dawgs fans want all of the bad things in the world to happen to Fields. There should be some sort of case study done on these maniacs. It doesn't just mean more in the SEC, they are just louder and have no sense of how to act in polite society. Savages for real.
Dude, we have some of the worst fans on the planet. I guess when your fan base is as big as ours, the douche bag fans just seem to be more.
Get on Twitter. You will see some of our awful fans.
I am not sure if OSU has more as a percentage but there are alot of them, which makes sense, as you said, because of how big the fan base is. Really, anything with rooting interests will have some jerks involved. Just the way it is.
I feel on social media in particular, in embolden's people that have a very high opinion of self, think their opinion is the only one that matters and will hammer people with it. All while being horribly offended if they are challenged. Football or otherwise.
I dont know, after seeing some of the videos posted here of the psu fans and how they acted toward buckeye fans, I would have to say they are near the top of shittiest fan bases
I live in the south and am pretty plugged in to acc and sec football. I can tell you that almost the entire team supports Fields and gets it. He isn’t the only one contemplating transferring out of Georgia.
Yes, getting OL pissed off at the QB can be a bad thing. When Scott Frost was the QB at Nebraska back in the mid 90s, after transferring from Stanford, he played a role in the whole Lawrence Phillips beating his gf situation-let's just say he was a situational catalyst for Phillips' rage-and the OL blamed him for the controversy. They would occasionally let him take a whack running the option in practice where it didn't have to happen.
Or his teammates realize that he is the ONLY backup qb they have and be glad he's sticking around for a bowl game that he really doesn't need to. If they're being pissy, he should just not play and see what they do if Fromm goes down.
He would never trust his future with Willie Taggert.
Jaiden Woodbey said to hold his beer.
The offseason is the longest season.
Playing QB for Taggert would be a worse business decision than safety.
Good article on late signees.
Even the "big" programs grab some of these "under-the-radar" types if they can be identified.
Hopefully - Day & Company can find one of these types - or - sway a couple of the more coveted hold-outs still on the board.
"Give your dream an aspiration date."
should probably take Mathis off of the commit list
Let’s add Fields, insiders say he is coming
"I don't think you necessarily have to get a trophy to be a winner." - Nick Saban 1/2/15.
Does anyone know when Fields would need to enroll at OSU in order to be a student in spring 2019, and what his options are if he can't make that?
Remaining with the UGA program for the spring if he's already decided to transfer seems like a huge waste.
I don't have the answer to your question but I believe Sheffield didn't start at OSU until about halfway thru the spring semester. Just in time for spring ball. I imagine some of the same arrangements could be made for Fields.
You are allowed to start the semester late. He would not stay at Georgia for the spring that wouldn't make any sense people are already questioning why he is staying through the bowl games. He will be here for spring practices and would announce probably within 2 weeks of the sugar bowl. The only questions as QBgeddon begins would be if Tate would transfer out(if he loses) after the spring as he is set to graduate and go the Burrow route with 2 years left and not needing to sit out. He has similiar measurables to Kyler Murray...
if Tate would transfer out(if he loses) after the spring as he is set to graduate...
How is Tate set to graduate when he'll be entering his third year?
How is Tate set to graduate when he'll be entering his third year?
I've also wondered this, but someone pointed out if he took summer classes both last year and this year, he would be on his 7th semester of classes this spring. If he had credits coming in, he could be close. Then I read somewhere yesterday (maybe Landis over at the Athletic) saying he heard that he was not on pace to graduate. He very well could graduate next December, though. He would still have 2 years of eligibility after that.
I'm pretty sure Landis confirmed that Tate is not able to graduate in Spring. In theory could after Summer semester maybe?
Sounds like Tate set himself up nicely in case things did not work out at OSU. He could become a grad transfer and still have 2 years left if he wanted to transfer. Smart kid.
I thought I read somewhere that he needs to be enrolled by January 7th for the Spring semester.
Don't quote me though, I read a lot of things but definitely don't remember everything I read...
"Defiance in Silence"
Yes. Kirby Smart said this. Said JF will need to make a choice rather quickly after the bowl games.
Those who say they can and those who say they can't are both right. Which one are you?
There are lots of classes that only run for half of the semester (both 1st half and 2nd half) so I assume he could wait until those second half classes begin to start.
Thank you Spooner for the new Thread, let's finish this class strong
Really feel like Fields already has been in touch with osu. Might be as close to a done deal as it can at this point. Quincy Avery and Haskins are the two that can facilitate conversation legally between the two. And I bet money that has happened.
Stay golden, Ponyboy.
He's in the portal and can legally chat with them anyway now.
True. But I think osu might have gotten a sense this was going to happen weeks ago and have already done a lot of the leg work
To further speculate, Wilfong said on the BM5 this morning that Mathis was trying to flip back to MSU last week and they wouldn't take him. He didn't say the reason and it could be all about OSU not taking him as an early enrollee, but this could be all the dominos falling from the impending Fields transfer.
MSU probably should have taken Mathis. More upside at QB then they usual get. Dantonio let pride get in the way on that decision.
My guess is MSU's issues were academic as well.
That's incredibly stubborn and out-dated thinking of MSU if true. Their QB play was a dumpster fire this year
Mathis comes off as more than a little flaky in this whole soap opera.
Not sure why everyone is convinced Tate would transfer. He is not a plug and play type QB. You cant come to a school like OSU and not expect to compete with top tier talent. If things would have worked out diffrently during the 2018 class we would all be debating who would start Emory Jones or Tate Martell. So its only for the benefit of the program to have top tier talent competing with each other every year.
It was rumored that the reason Urban mentioned the special packages for Tate way back in the fall was because Martell was unhappy. Considering that UNLV's head coach is his old HS coach and the fact he'd do well in Chip Kelly's offense it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out Tate has options.
"You're the patron saint of the totally effed" - Hot Tub Time Machine
Because if Haskins leaves he probably feels like the job is his to lose since he has been in the program for a few years. If OSU brings in a talent like Fields, they aren't bringing him in to sit on the bench. If Fields comes it would only be smart for Tate to go somewhere he could play.
Why in the world would Tate stay? Fields would play for the next two years. Take advantage of another opportunity.
I don't know what you mean by "not plug and play" don't confuse short and bad. Tate is short. Tate is extremely talented and if compared to JT he would be a little better at everything than he was. He is better than anybody on Oklahomas roster and would start f he transferred there. Nobody is saying he is scared to compete but if he loses the job to Justin Fields than he should leave and go start somewhere else
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tate stay until it is determined whether Fields get immediate eligibility.
He won't be a grad transfer yet, he would compete in the spring and most likely serve as the backup again but transfer out with two to play. ONLY, if he loses the job, and he very well may win the job. Martell that is.
The Oklahoma insider is also hearing Ohio State leads for Fields. He says it’s hearsay but he mentioned Tate has thought about leaving multiple times. He also says Jalen Hurts is interested in OU and that it could be a hold up with Fields.
The world is yours
So we need to root for Hurts to pull the trigger to OU, ASAP lol
Of course Tate has thought about what he needs to do for his future. Doesn't mean anything on it's own...or that this guy has actual info.
New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.
Here's the quote from the OU guy:
"Yes,Ohio State is the front runner right now. I was told that Martell has almost left Ohio State on several occasions and there is some concern about how committed he is with the Buckeyes. That is all hearsay on Martell, but did I speak to a source with knowledge of this (is very, very close to Fields) and Ohio State is the leader. The hold up with OU is that Jalen Hurts is interested in OU and nothing will be known about that situation until after the Sooner and Bama play."
Givler said he's liking our chances with Fields. Bill Greene believes he lands at OSU
Probably a dumb question, but where do these guys post?
Givler is Rivals, BG is 247 now
Givler, IMO, is one of the best to follow. He posts on The Buckeye Grove on Rivals.com
Bill Greene is solid too. He is on Bucknuts on 247sports.com
Both require a paid subscription, $10 monthly.
I really enjoy Rivals more. Former player Kirk Barton is a mod. Nevada is over on that one. They all give great insight and are pretty dialed in.
Thank you both!
If you're looking to subscribe somewhere, I'd go with Rivals over Bucknuts.
Would you say it’s worth it?
Maybe a bit of a Christmas present to myself lol.
Yes, absolutely worth it. Bucknuts has way to much trash on it.
The work that Kevin and Mark put in on recruiting content is great. And Ross Fulton's film breakdowns are worth the $10 monthly in itself.
Awesome, thank you.
If you’re actually thinking about signing up, use this link. You’ll get a bonus 100$ in credit for merchandise (I don’t get anything from this and am not affiliated with them in any way. Just tryna help a brother out)
Thank you. Good looking out
Kirk Barton is a mod.
"Year for what?"
The victory cigar
After Ohio State beat Michigan in 2006 in a battle of the top-two ranked teams in college football, Barton celebrated in grand fashion.
He popped open a pricey bottle of champagne in the locker room after the game, and then entered the postgame interview session smoking a $100 Cuban cigar.
“It was something I had planned,” said Barton. “It was Number 1 vs. Number 2. You have to celebrate when you win a game like that. There may never be another Ohio State-Michigan game where one team is ranked first and the other is second.”
Barton’s flamboyant celebration opened eyes because his coach, Jim Tressel, did not typically approve of such bravado.
“I apologized to Coach Tressel later,” said Barton. “I didn’t want to make anybody mad. I mean, I was 22 years old and wanted to enjoy the moment. I thought it was harmless. Looking back, I would do it again. What is wrong with enjoying a good cigar?”
Fields is about as close to a done deal to tOSU as you can get. So im getting myself pretty pumped. His eligibility will determine if and when Tate transfers. People close to this are talking like Fields already # shopping on social media.
FWIW BG is doubled down on Fields as pretty much done
"I have Justin Fields at Ohio State. Period. Not sure when. Not sure he will be eligible instantly. But I have Justin Fields at Ohio State in the next few weeks, if the info I'm being given is correct. And I certainly believe it is correct."
"VERY confident on Fields. Very."
BG also saying we may have a puncher's chance at Nick Cross, or at minimum should definitely be looking at him in this next period.
I thought Nick Cross was refusing to play in the cold IIRC. Would love to land him. The kid is a stud.
Would be a nice pickup but not really a need. He is pretty much the same type of SS that Ronnie Hickman is.
Tate sounds like he isn’t so committed. And it sounds like it is inevitable that Fields comes to osu
I'm more than confident/happy with Fields as a starter and Matt Baldwin as a backup. Day will have both of those guys ready to play.
I know the "package deal scenario" rarely ever happens. But IF Fields comes to OSU and I'm Ryan Day, I'm absolutely reaching out to Jadon Haselwood. I know it's been said that they'd love to play together.
He hasn't signed yet and won;t be signing for another two weeks.
If he doesn't sign today or tomorrow, he has to wait until the traditional signing day I believe. I don't think he can just sign next week or the week after. At least that's what I think/believe
Correct he can sign from 12/19-12/21.
Meh can commit in 2 weeks or anytime really but can't sign till February.
Sorry guys. I meant he isn't committing anywhere for another 2 weeks.
Rumor is he signed yesterday with OU and it won't be public til the all star games
Not sure of that though
You forgot the 'S'.
Gleitman agrees with you.
Just speculating but based on all the crystal balls to Oklahoma yesterday for Haselwood I wouldn’t be shocked if he signed with Oklahoma yesterday and is the Oklahoma guy’s source that is close to Fields
OT but fyi for any current students out there our soon to be former head coach will be teaching Leadership and Character classes at Lazenby Hall 021 this spring
I knew Urban would go the Woody route and teach. Thats awesome.
Gleitman also thinks we land Fields
Meant to ask this in the previous part but forgot.
Hey AE if you're reading this part we'd love to get your thoughts on the Fields stuff. Any predictions?
Sounds really good for Fields.
In the event that Fields transfers in (but isn't eligable for 2019), Martell transfers out like the OU recruiting writer is saying, and Haskins goes pro--is Baldwin going to be ready to go in 2019? Coming off an injury as a first year starter with no game action (even Haskins got some garbage time snaps the year before) is a lot to ask.
He would have all of training camp to get ready. It is not ideal, but he probably would be fine. Really, if Fields transfers in and is ineligible does that mean Tate is out? Seems he and Baldwin would compete for the starting job anyway. And he would potentially get the starting job anyway next year and would compete with Fields the following year.
I would guess that Tate would spend spring semester academically here still awaiting word on Fields' eligibility. Certainly wouldn't hurt him if he ends up heading out to go through another Marotti off-season.
Coming off an injury as a first year starter with no game action
Sounds a lot like someone we used to know around here:
I hope Fields is able to get done against Wisky a lot better, if he comes here............
That scenario I don't think is likely at all. I'd be surprised if Tate Martell were to transfer before Fields get the OK by the NCAA on his transfer waiver. It would be in Tate's best interest to get through sprint practices here before assessing his options on transferring. Whether he transfers in January or June, he would still have to sit out 2019 regardless.
I agree with this. Martell would have to sit a year regardless.
Even if Fields comes in and gets immediate eligibility, why would Tate not compete in the spring to prove he was the best QB on the roster? If Fields wins the job and Tate decides to transfer, it's not like he'd be going somewhere to compete immediately for the starting job. If Fields comes in and is not immediately eligible, Tate has as good a chance as anyone to win the starting job as QB at Ohio State.
I'd say that's a pretty good reason to wait it out and fight for the job.
I wouldn't bet on any transfer guaranteed to be sitting a year if they transfer. Do we not remember Antonio Williams??? Dude had no reason for transfer other than playing time from what I recall and he played the same year. Bunch of other cases where kids did not have to sit after transferring as underclassmen.
Same with Wholabaugh (sp) who went to Duke. And also the O-lineman who now plays for Cincinnati who's name escapes me. The red-headed kid.
Kyle Trout, I believe
What if Fields isn’t eligible and redshirts, and Tate decides to stay, start for a year at OSU, then grad transfer after the season...
If Ann Arbor is a whore, what's Harbaugh for going back to her?
He'd be taking a chance considering Fields probably wouldn't hear about his eligibility for a while
Yeah, the NCAA takes its sweet time.
Patterson who had his time extended last year was ruled eligible in April......our spring game is in April. So that's the timeline for JF Jan-Apr. really not that Lon at all and plenty of time for all sides to make decisions.
I don't think this is as farfetched as some may think. Tate probably stays through the spring at least and Fields probably gets a decision before Tate would HAVE to transfer. If Fields is ineligible for 2019, Tate could play, get his degree, and grad transfer after 2019 and play immediately if that's what he wants. Or maybe Tate just goes out and wins the dang Heisman this year and goes pro.
Someone started a thread on it, but I figured I'd just throw this in here. Not sure he meant to say that lol.
Is it me.. or does UGA HC Kirby Smart....when describing new QB Dwan Mathis..... definitively say QB Justin Fields is moving on? pic.twitter.com/1gpozKOj8U

Let's keep our fingers crossed that Fromm does NOT get hurt in Bowl game
Those who stir the shit pot should have to lick the spoon.
Fields should sit out.
While playing time is a big deal I think he is also pretty upset about his development. OU offers easier playing time he seems interested in being developed by Ryan Day.
William Putnam committed and signed with Clemson, giving them 27 signed LOI for 2019. All of the other schools over 25 commits right now were under 25 last cycle. Some of them are still looking to add and some of the guys who haven't officially signed weren't expected to until February. Unless there is an error on 247 about Clemson's class and a major coincidence that a bunch of schools that were under 25 last cycle are over 25 now and haven't pushed the extra guys out of the class, then there is no hard cap of 25.
That will be us next year, I am guessing. Clemson had smaller classes at least once or twice in the last three years and went large this year. Next year we are going to lose our 2017 studs early plus the 2016 kids and we are going to need a big class following this year's small one.
Clemson enrolled 14 and 17 players respectively in the 17' and 18' classes.
Asked that in one of the other threads. With as loaded as the 2020 class is, and how far under the Buckeyes are now, how many spots can back count to 2019 if they enroll early next year?
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
This is where we get into rule issues again. Some conferences had class cap rules in place apart from the NCAA rules. I'm not sure about the Big 10. Let's say we finish at 18 or 19. Technically we could take 32 or 33 if 7 or 8 are enrolling early and would count for the 2019-20 academic year.
However, I want to say there is probably a Big 10 rule against going that high, and of course I doubt we would go that high regardless. But we could easily go to 28 or 29 if we wanted even if the Big 10 had a cap of 30. If the Big 10 has a cap of 28 we obviously can't surpass that. In 2017 we had 21 signees and in 2018 we had 26, but I think we were prepared to go higher than that if the right guys wanted in.
Birm answered this on Lettermanrow today
Reading an article about some unsigned east coast kids. Didn't realize he had a brother but if we're still looking for another TE I'd love it if we went after Charles Njoku. Looks an awful lot like his brother on film:
Sad thing was we were on Njoku for a bit but didn't pursue him enough before he committed to Miami.
Yep! He would've been a Buckeye too.
I don't think he is commited to Miami he decommited from Mizzou in November.
Pretty sure the Miami thing was in reference to his brother David.
Scratch that. Richt has convinced Williams to stay at Miami
Got him to stay with the lure of letting him wear the turnover chain and he gets to QB two of the four losses next year.
Does anybody know why Nick Cross didn't sign? FSU seems like a sinking ship with Taggart, Howell just flipped to North Carolina and the biggest problem in Oline wasn't really addressed, They got 1 4 star guard, a 6'2" guard outside of the top 1000 and a 3 star Juco Tackle. And the best player in their class, Akeem Dent a 5 star corner is crystal balled to flip to Bama(imagine that)
Probably the same reason several of their 4*'s haven't signed.. they know it's a stinkin dumpster fire in Tallahassee and are looking at other options. If you're Nick Cross, are you optimistic about the future of FSU?
Willie Taggertt will be fired with a year or two. He is a fraud.
Hell yes he is. He got the USF and Oregon jobs because of Harbaugh
Taggart went 7-5 at Oregon and got the FSU job for that lmao
Jaiden Woodbey. Not the best judgment.
Woodbey a shame if he never got to play in a bowl game
You sound jaidened by the fact that he spurned OSU.
He woodbey, but the Buckeyes will win with other guys
He absolutely could have played safety this year opposite Fuller. Nothing you can say other than bad decision to flip.
It would be nice to get Nick Cross on campus for a visit. Sell early PT
I don't think he makes it through next year. I don't think we realize how bad it is down there.
I recall someone coming into these threads when Willie T was hired telling us we were in trouble with recruiting in Florida. I tried telling him we weren't bc he's a joke of a coach like Locksley is and will be. I expect the FSU brass is kicking themselves for not doing more to help Jimbo which would've helped him stay. Maybe they should've built those new facilities like he wanted.
If I'm not mistaken, Spooner, Jimbo's divorce after his wife allegedly had affairs with much, much younger men hastened his departure from Tallahassee.
I don’t know anything about that. But I have heard their facilities are terrible and definitely second class compared to the top schools
Maybe but (for a guy making $5m) he crushed her in the divorce. I guess he did leave less than 2 years later.
Got close friends that are FSU fans. She cheated big time. Of course he's an absolute asshole so TTFWIW.
The affair of Jimbo’s wife was with former Gator WR Taylor Jacobs, to make matters worse.
Damn, a player from a rival school?
Uh, the FSU admin could not keep Jimbo's ex-wife from banging half the country club membership and tennis pros in Tallahassee. Jimbo was sick of Tallahassee and wanted a fresh start more than he frustrated w/ FSU.
to be fair, if I was FSU admin I'd be lining up for a shot at his ex-wife too.
What's also funny about FSU is their players have been tweeting at Fields, Woodbey included, to get him to come to Tallahassee. Lol if only they knew I have a better chance at transferring there and playing QB.
FSUs program summarized in a picture
You a Midwest Nole? /s
Just saw a 247 insider say that FSU is talking to Jordan Travis, transfer from Louisville from the 2018 class, so maybe the ship has sailed on them for Fields (not that I really thought they had a ship...more like a canoe?)
Sources: Momentum for a Justin Fields-to-Ohio State transfer is increasing. Ryan Days impact cannot be overstated. Fields and those close to him are enamored by a potential pairing with Day.
— Kyle Rowland (@KyleRowland) December 21, 2018
My meme didn’t work, but Keep the good news coming
With all this encouraging news about Fields, it almost sounds too good to be true. I don't want to get my hopes up too much, and try to pump the brakes on being too optimistic. Yet, it almost seems like this is all a done deal already.
There is so much smoke about Fields to OSU (from UGA insiders, OU insiders, sounds like some OSU insiders, as well as some national guys). As this point the amount of smoke does not just equal fire.. the amount of smoke around this equals the house is burning down.
What's up with Kyle. After the beat of 62 to his beloved team TTUN, he started to cover OSU again, and took a coupl shots at jimmy... did he finally realize that he is covering a loser
Lots of TTUN fans are turning on Harbaugh, Kyle included.
Yeah... I don’t believe anything he writes. He is a Michigan man in disguise.
I believe Kyle has been an OSU fan all along but gets paid to cover both.
Isn’t he an OSU grad? And he had OSU beat in his twitter bio long before The Game fwiw.
Ohio State > *ichigan
Urban > Hairbaugh
Birm has a good article on recruiting options over at LettermenRow.
Regarding FSU, you gotta think Woodbey and Marvin Wilson gotta be thinking to themselves, “man I screwed up picking schools”. FSU’s recruiting isn’t setting the world on fire either. Program is on the downturn without a doubt
Taggart is their Brady Hoke.
Hoke at least has an 11 win season and BCS/NY6 bowl win from his time at Michigan. Taggart will be lucky to meet either milestone by the time he's through at FSU, in my opinion.
Yes, but the ACC is hot garbage.
Brady Hoke has more wins against Ohio State (in less tries) than Jim Harbaugh does.
It's the same number of tries, actually. Four.
Preach.. so damn true
Per Bucknuts posters, Fields has started following Paris Johnson, Teradja Mitchell, Jaelen Gill, Tyreke Johnson, Tyreke Smith, and Jeremy Ruckert
He started following Coach Day as well
Because I couldn't go for three
This is like a double boom of info given Paris Johnson is listed.
I have a feeling that Coach Day will definitely be able to keep Paris in the fold despite the OL recruiting elsewhere on staff. Paris and his mom Monica are considered great people in the mold of Harry and Kristina Miller and Day was responsible for Harry signing this week. So that has me thinking he will be able to do it again.
Gotta believe he's going to be back on his roll of leader of the class.
It's what he was doing pre-Day and it'll be needed to get the class train back on board.
Sooner or andrew(or anyone else, lol), after watching the trading places videos yesterday, do you guys find it interesting that all coaches were involved minus stud, davis(who I agree should be let go), and schiano.
Don't have 247 premium so I can't see the posts, but I assume they are talking about Instagram and not Twitter. Fields hasn't started following anybody new on Twitter since rumors of him transferring began.
It seems as though Twitter moves the people you are following to the top of the list when you're looking through who another account follows. When I look at Fields' Twitter those are not the latest follows for him because I do not follow those players.
Yup, I've been watching his twitter and he hasn't followed anyone new. Just checked and looks like he's been following Max Wray, Teradja Mitchell, Tyreke Smith, Haskins, Ryan Day, Kamryn Babb, Blue Smith, Jeremy Ruckert, Tyreke Johnson, & Jaelen Gill for quite a while now, likely since their original recruiting processes. Only one he started following within a few months looks to be Paris Johnson. Seeing Day on there so far back though was interesting to me given we were never a major player in his recruitment, their relationship has obviously been in place for some time now.
Also pretty irrelevant but funny to me is Justin follows Tate's sister, Rylee Martell, on both IG & Twitter, but doesn't follow Tate on either.
Idk when he started following them, but I'm looking at his twiiter now and he's following Teradja, Dwayne, Babb, Tyreke Johnson, Jaelin Gill, Jeremy Ruckert, and Max Wray. That's just a quick glance too, because I didn't feel like going through 600+ people that he follows.
FIELDS OF DREAMS, hopefully he will commit before the end of this thread, otherwise spooner, we need part 2 of FIELDS OF DREAMS :)
If you post it, he will come.
Ummmmmmmm -- "Fields Of Dreams" was STU10's creation on this site -- Spooner totally lifted that from one of my posts in another thread and shamelessly gave me no credit for same -- admit it Spooner
Ooorrrr I don't read every post on here and it's also a famous baseball movie + I'm a former baseball player + Justin's last name is Fields = easy softball lobbed title to come up with in 2 seconds
We know he didn't steal it from you because he didn't put quotes around 'every' 'single' 'word'

People only attack Spooner when I say it's cool, and that's on pause for the holiday season (also no one ruins Seinfeld anything #goat)
Please tell me this was a sarcastic post.
I think one way we could get back in the running with Darnell Wright would be to hire the UT offensive line coach, Will Friend who has been mentioned in here as a candidate. If we did that and backed off nester I could easily see Wright coming here. I see Nester going to Georgia if not here which would eliminate them for Wright. The only other threat would be Bama who has 3 Top 50 OT’s already in this class. In no way am I saying to hire Friend to get Wright. Friend is a good candidate regardless. So if he comes here I would go all in on Wright.
I doubt Wright is going to OSU, maybe with that sort of hire they would be sort of in things but I doubt it. They should push to work for Nester as hard as they can, to keep him in the class. Just from reading the recruiting guys, Wright is not going to OSU.
I think that is as a result of Nester being in this class. From what I have read he was strongly considering OSU until nester committed. From what I’ve read those two hate each other and will not play for the same team.
There is nothing we can do to get Darnell Wright in this class. He is not going anywhere but the SEC. It's down to UT and Bama. We as fans need to realize that it's even a less than 0% chance he comes here regardless of coach or Nester. Can't tell you how many times people ask about Wright not only here but other boards. I'm pretty sure if there was even a 1% chance they would've reported it. Instead they've all been as blunt as possible by saying me and you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning, aliens landing at the White House, winning the lottery, marrying a supermodel, and getting an offer from tOSU - all in the same day mind you - than Wright does at ending up in Cbus.
Well that doesn’t sound good
Between the two I'd rather have Nester honestly. I'd like to see us get Dawand Jones even though he is really raw right now. We are going to be set at OT for a little bit with Munford, NPF, Wray, etc. I could see Jones ready to play and be a bookend with Johnson down the road.
Next season may be Munford's last and Wray may never see meaningful playing time.
So your telling me there’s a chance! Haha jk. Thanks for clearing that up tho
no aliens and no offer, but otherwise I've had a good day except for that jolt of electricity about 2pm.
Not to focus too much on coaching, but what makes Friend an upgrade over Studrawa? (Genuine question.)
He is a hell of a recruiter. Honestly don’t know much about his coaching abilities but I want someone who can recruit after the mess of a recruiter Studrawa was. He signed Wanya Morris (5*). Is the leader and most likely destination for Darnell Wright (5*) and Jackson Lampley (4*) in a year Tennessee went 5-7. Imagine what he would do when he can offer The Ohio State University to these kids.
You do realize that tOSU does not offer the opportunity for recruits to "play school" like UT does, and major in eligibility w/out the staff constantly getting on their ass. Some recruits don't want academic opportunity-but they can't say that publicly.
Once OSU ROLLS next season the recruits will be lining up.
I think it's difficult to overstate what a huge gift having Justin Fields for the first two years of his coaching tenure will do for Ryan Day. It's program changing for a program that already had one of the top talent rosters in college football. This roster is almost idiot proof for the next two years with Fields and Day is far from an idiot.
About the same impact as Lincoln Riley starting his tenure at OU with Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray as his QBs lol
Great point! Except we have even more talent all over the field than Oklahoma does, although a more difficult conference.
Yup, Urban having Braxton for the first two years really helped the program.
Getting Fields should be the biggest priority right now.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
I don’t know if it should be priority number 1 I believe that should be keeping Nester without and OL it doesn’t matter you the QB is.
It's a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio... and TTUN still sucks.
I'll take a guess.
I don't know if it should be priority number 1, but it should be keeping Nester. Without an OL, it doesn't matter who your QB is.
Keeping Nester is not a bigger priority than landing Justin Fields. Just stop with that ridiculousness.
I do agree that getting good offensive linemen is critical, but they are not mutually exclusive. I imagine priority one for OSU football will be to win the Rose Bowl and then to land Fields, keep Nester and acquire additional DB and OL as space allows. All are important for different reasons.
Looks like somebody just woke up from their napbuck
Or maybe they just took an ambien
If Fields does come here, how confident are people that he would be granted immediate eligibility?
"Because we couldn't go for three." -Woody Hayes
Hired Shea Patterson lawyer, has a compelling case, NCAA showing signs of transfer leniency.. I'd say we should be pretty confident.
95%. He got called the N word by a baseball player, The University of Georgia and/or the NCAA would be get absolutely creamed by the media if they tried to get in the way of this one. Everyone knows his real reason for transferring is because of playing time.. but hey, I'm not complaining.
If his lawyer goes the racism route, IMO, he's going to win his case. I'd imagine it's handled much like it is in the workplace. Whether someone was actually discriminated against doesn't really even matter, just the appearance of it is enough for a company to be held responsible. I don't think that's a fight the NCAA or UGA want on their hands. It's just easier to let him play.
90%+. Seems to be the trend with transfers now, plus if he is doing it for racial reasons, that is almost automatic. Almost, not nothing is for sure with the NCAA.
I'm less confident than everyone else here. call it 60%. Hiring the lawyer and the facts of the case give him a good shot. However, the NCAA has to understand at this point that they are creating a monster - if every kid who has a negative story can hire a lawyer and win, the transfer rules are gutted (imho they should be gutted). I still think there is a decent chance that the NCAA puts its foot down here and tries to close the barn door. More likely, they wait until a non-racism case to do that - but think they could do that here.
I see where you're coming from, but if they don't put their foot down on Shea Patterson, they're not going to put their foot down on someone that got called the N word.
I think that is probably right. I just can't go with the 90% confidence levels like everyone else bc the NCAA is poorly managed and petty, and really really hates feeling like the system is being worked. And, Fields' reasons for transferring are unrelated to the incident he will be claiming hardship for. I just think there is a not negligible chance that the NCAA decides to throw the penalty flag on this one.
The Patterson and Fields cases are very different. If I'm not mistaken, Ole Miss was going to be bowl ineligible for the next 2 seasons (the only remaining eligibility for Patterson), so that was the driving force behind granting him immediate eligibility.
Now... what happened to Fields is inexcusable. I believe that baseball player has been dismissed from the team and is likely headed elsewhere. Difficult to argue that the same hostile environment exists if the baseball player is no longer with Georgia unless somehow there are other problems throughout the athletic department. I'm not completely convinced he'll get immediate eligibility.
On the topic of transfers in general, I don't like the idea of granting players immediate eligibility elsewhere unconditionally. That would create a nightmare scenario where you could have serious depth problems that you can't solve because players are transferring after the National Signing Day dates.
Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever.
For what it’s worth I agree with you. GA did everything they could to remedy the situation as far as we have been allowed to see.
However PR and public perception are the new realities and the NCAA can ill afford another misstep.
The commitment should be tied to the scholarship offer. Schools should be free to offer 1, 2 3 & 4 year scholarships that they cannot pull and the students should be made to honor whatever year scholarship they accept. You want to go to a school and try it for a year, sign a one year commitment. It would be very similar to free agency in other sports. If you think about it, a scholarship is very similar to a contract. They just formalize it and allow students to actually sign a contract with the scholarship as compensation. Want to secure your future? sign a four year deal. Want to be able to look around? sign a one or two year deal.
There should be an out clause on the four year scholarships that a student can leave after three for the NFL.
It is hard to argue one way or another once the bag of worms is open. Is it just one rougue bad apple or is a culture thing with multiple players agreeing but just not saying it outloud. We do not know. And I doubt even the kid that did it really thinks he is racist despite make a racist statement.
It is a very subjective matter, other than the event that happened. One could make a case that you do not feel secure in the environment based on the culture. Would that be enough or anything else, who knows? It just is a hard thing for the official body to do much about. Not without a major investment, investigation and so on. Remember, just because the University and personal does things right does not make it ok (Meyer situation).
Why do so many people care if these kids transfer? How does it affect you? Any kid going to Ohio state can transfer at any time. These athletes only benefit for their hard work is a scholarship? Why restrict their one benefit?
on top of that, the player was dismissed from the team but allowed to remain enrolled at the university. If you don’t think he had other friends on the team who might be pissed that their teammate was dismissed, no chance. On top of that, fields considered playing baseball before college (he was a decent high school prospect) and could claim he wants to try baseball. He doesn’t even have to try. Can just claim he wants to and I don’t think it’s a stretch to think he wouldn’t feel welcome on that team.
99%. His case is way stronger than Patterson’s and way too controversial for the NCAA to say no.
Agreed. There is no way they are saying no to this. There would be backlash for sure.
100% agree. Not a chance the NCAA is going to try to judge how somebody should feel about being called a racial slur.
Fee for all, it's a fee for all.
Here's Bobby Carpenter's reaction to Kyle Rowland's tweet earlier. He also apparently said on his radio show today that Fields is a done deal.
Update on IN OL Dawand Jones who says he talked with Coach Day on Monday and is looking to setup an overnight visit.
Quick thoughts would be I really want Dawand in this class. He's a project but he's the type of project you take and try like hell to maximize the potential. You can't teach 6-8 360 and move like he does. Now he does need to lose weight and learn technique but I would love to see what Mick could do with this kid.
Love to see what a real OL coach could do with him also...
His offer list is awfully impressive.
So were recruiting The Mountain? Im down with that.
An offer list like that (USC, Texas, Florida), with that kind of size/frame, that tells you that he hasn't really been evaluated by 247 and that his rating is a placeholder. As you guys said, can't teach that kind of size.
Interesting that Day was his point of contact. Looking more and more like Studrawa is on his way out. I get that OSU often recruits geographically and not positionally, but he doesn't seem involved in recruiting at all.
TIFWIW a poster on 247 says a Cbus media friend told him Dawand Jones, once he gets a few things in order, will be a Buckeye.
Adding him and Nester would be a major win for OSU. Those guys are needed.
Living in the Indianapolis area, I can tell you an offer from OSU is a bigger deal to these kids than all the other Midwest powers. OSU can usually come in a beat out ttun and even ND just on name alone. That's why I can't believe OSU doesn't try to go get a kid like David Bell and figure it out once he gets on campus.
Doesnt Bell want to play hoops too? Doubtful Day and Holtmann want to split him.
True. And he’s a good basketball player but his future is in Football. Don’t seem him being a difference maker at a basketball program like Purdue
I heard Holtman wasn't really interested in letting Bell walk on the hoops team, for some reason.
I think Bell is gonna end up at Purdue, and holy shit that would give them an insane WR corps.
Two more years of Rondale Moore, plus guys like Milton Wright, David Bell and Mershawn Rice coming in this year… they are going to be really fun/terrifying to watch on offense.
When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.
Michigan another team going after him signed 6 lineman so I would imagine they are done there.
Georgia folk saying that 2019 Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson faxed in his signed LOI today to Georgia but will let him announce at the Army All American Game on January 5th. That would give GA two Cornerbacks in the 2019 class.
Let's see if the Buckeyes can get Kaiir Elam interested. Georgia & Florida were the two he was mainly interested in but Florida also signed two Corners already and are one of the favorites for cornerback Chris Steele (CA) along with Oregon to battle it out.
I think the only reason we were ever in that conversation for Elam was because of Urban Meyer. Meyer sent his uncle, Matt, to the first round of the draft, so now that Meyer is gone, I believe Elam is too.
The beauty of it is though that Meyer is still going to be around. If Day can get Elam to campus, Urban can help work on him and his family.
I’d still like to see Urban involved in Real Life Wednesdays. That would be an incredible pull for recruits I would think.
Interesting how much talk there has been about the impact of assistant coaches leaving on classes, but Mel Tucker leaving Georgia has seemingly had zero impact for them, despite his being a good recruiter.
Mel didn’t take the money with him...just kidding, but yeah I do find that interesting too. Miami lost about half of their defensive recruits when their guy left.
Mel's a good recruiter but he was far from the best of the UGA staf.
Not only UGA...but how about Bama? Not just in recruiting, but no matter who the coordinators are, that team just keeps rolling. Given the challenges we’ve seen the Buckeyes have when replacing coaches, it’s amazing.
Bama’s Recruiting struggled last year because of their coaching defections.
struggled for bama anyway.
A Lot easier to recruit when you have half the top 250 less than 2 states away in any direction.
Of course it is. I was simply replying to the poster that said the never struggle with coaching defections.
I think the main difference is that you follow the Buckeyes closer so you pay more attention to the upside and doens. Ohio State has been rolling relative to pretty much any program in the country save for Bama. UGA has been "rolling" for just 2 years so let's see how long they can keep that up
Other than the obvious size what is the difference between Dawand Jones and Jonathan Allen? They are both developmental guys and the offer sheet for Dawand is much better so I trust Day is making the better pick.
Juco experience compared to high school experience. Jones is less of a project.
Jones isn't a Juco though?!? I do agree he is less of a project though and more potential.
Yeah, got him mixed up with somebody else. I did read that Allen was coming off a major injury that caused him to miss most of this year.
They’re both major projects who would never see the field except that we are starting to get real thin on the OL.
Could be. Obviously the staff decided the possibility of Allen actually playing meaningful snaps for the Buckeyes was low. But if you see something in one of the guys and have the room you never know, especially if there is freakish size involved. The Eagles drafted a rugby player who was a physical freak but had never played organized football before this year and by the end of training camp he made the team and not just the practice squad. Now there is talk he might be a future starter at T.
Most OL are projects. Very few of them are ready to play right a way and man take up to 4 years to be ready if they ever are. OSU has had some good success with "project" OLs at the end of their careers.
Who is the next commit?
I'm going with IN OL Dawand Jones bc things ain't looking great with Nester and they need to take more bodies regardless if they're a project or not.
Every one is saying we’re not in great shape with Nester. I would not go that far. I definitely realize he is keeping his options open and we will have to continue working to recruit him but keep in mind nester grew up an Ohio state fan and has always loved the Buckeyes. Day is a great recruiter and just needs to build a solid relationship with him. It sounds like nester wants to make sure he gels with Day and that OSU is still the school for him. Sounds like he will give OSU every opportunity to do this
I listened to the BM5 today at it sounds like his relationship was built with Urban. While I do agree that we need to get Day involved pronto, things were seemingly weird with Nester long before the Urban retirement news.
BG posted today that he would be beyond stunned if Fields wasn't a Buckeye after the bowls.
If he's granted eligibility, and I expect him too, it's hard for me to not see him as the starter next year. This will be the biggest recruit Day has landed to date bc Justin has #1 overall pick talent. If Day can maximize it, then my fellow Buckeyes we are in for a treat! Merry Xmas btw!
Could fields have 3 years of eligibility here? Imagine having that guy starting for 3 consecutive years.
If Fields is good enough to be out Tate this year he will not be here for more than two years. It would be disappointing if he doesn't win a championship while he is here though. Bama and Georgia will revert back to having bad QBs in two years and our 2017/2018 class will be seniors and juniors, if Day can prove himself this early he would be setting himself up big time
Regardless of tua, Bama is always going to be the team to beat with Saban around. He recruits on a different tier than any other school. He doesn’t need an elite qb to win a title when he has elite players all around them.
Fields will have 2 years here bc if he does what I expect him to then he won't be here past his true junior year.
And then straight into 2 years of Jack Miller. We are gonna be blessed.
In the words of Jarvis Landry, "Bless em!"
If Fields is good enough to come in and start (he is), he'll be good enough to leave for the NFL the moment he can.
Two years of Fields, then he'll hand the torch to either a redshirt freshman Jack Miller or a redshirt junior in Matt Baldwin.
Lol no im failing to see the downside here???
So it's safe to say we did get that shinny new toy for Christmas?!?!
Veni, Vidi, Vici. I came, I saw, I conquered.
The Buckeye Way
Yes any time we get a generational player at QB just thank the staff. we're lucky to have Day thus far.
If Urban still around would you think we still get fields? Or is it just because Day is the head coach?
Without question its bc of Day
Fields wouldn’t be considering us if Urban were still here. We’d be looking at 3 years of Tate running the zone read. No thanks.
Wed be looking at 3 years of winning a ton of football games. Get a grip.
Get as many great quarterbacks as we can at Ohio State. Let the best guy win. Competition breads excellence.
82-9 and a national championship. Go be a fan of a new team.
username checks out
I look forward to arguing over our new shiny toy bc were getting one. To my enemies like Toby I wish you nothing but the best and a great merry Xmas. Also if my enemies happen to be bourbon nuts like myself let me know bc I have 23 yr old I can share and will be playing golf next May in God's country :)
Enemies is harsh, I just enjoy a good laugh (sometimes at your expense).. bourbon and golf are two of my favorite things! Merry Christmas to Spooner and the rest of you knuckle heads..
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays fellow Recruiting nuts!
Merry Christmas everyone @11warriors. About time to play with our shiny new toys.. i.e. Fields and Gee..
The delay in making changes on the defensive side coaches (Bill Davis, Taver Johnson) and offensive Coach Greg Studrawa is costing us valuable time with recruits for the 2019, I am hoping Coach Ryan Day will move very quickly after the Rose Bowl so we can go back on track for 2019. I wished he made the changes a couple weeks ago.
He couldn't because Urban gets to go out with his guys, that is why they are telling everyone that changes will be made after the bowl game, Urban has earned the right to go out on his terms
It's the nature of the beast. While it's plausible to elevate an assistant to interim head coach in-season, staff changes to multiple position groups likely would be too disruptive to bowl preparation. Agreed though, whatever the outcome, Day will need to move quickly after the Rose Bowl to quell ant uncertainty as to who recruits might be coached by should they choose the Buckeyes.
We are done at LB so Davis isn't a factor for 2019. I believe we are in a dark period of recruiting right now so the new coaches couldn't do much of anything to recruit anyway. The 2019 class is already baked in. We are talking about keeping Nester and probably adding 2-3 players at most. Day will make moves quickly to add who he wants to add. But it will be more geared towards success on the field in 2019 and recruiting as a whole moving forward than it could ever affect 2019 recruiting.
You almost never see asistnats fired before a major bowl game. Beat Washington!
I also think with Day's ties to NFL, after next weekend, you will see multiple NFL changes and all those assistants will be looking, he may be reaching out if he knows certain Jobs are a done deal like the Jets and Broncos
For all those who DVed my earlier post about Fields, tell me how I’m wrong. Do you not realize that the only reason Fields is considering coming here is because of Day? And that if he weren’t coming, we’d be looking at Martell as the starter, and an offense that would resemble the same one JT ran? Never mind how hurt your feelings are, tell me wrong on the facts.
Uh, Tate has a better arm than JT.
And that JT offense was under Meyer, who ya know, won’t be here next year.
Which is why Fields is considering coming here. And why do you assume Tate’s arm is better? What has he done exactly to prove that?
Even if Meyer stayed as the HC, you do realize that Day would still be the OC/QB coach right?
That’s assuming Day wouldn’t take a new job. But if Urban returned, we all know what kind of offense he prefers to run. Running the QB. And it seems unlikely a kid who wants to get the League would want to run the same offense JT did.
That's weird. Urban was the HC this year and we passed it like crazy.
Are we talking about the same JT that ended his career with 34 OSU offensive records and 5 all-time B1G records playing in Urban's offense? https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2018/01/90561/all-39-records-of-jt-barretts-career
And while Haskins is great, until the last 2 games of the season he also caused a downside to the offense...zero running threat.
Everything has pluses and minuses.
Tate has looked very good in the very limited action and uses they allowed him (23/28 82% and 1 TD). Meanwhile, Fields was 27/39 (69%) and 4 TD. Fields has a ton of potential, but it's not like he set the world on fire at UGA. Maybe we should wait a bit before anointing him and throwing Tate under the bus.
Urban’s also the same coach who played a running QB in 17 when we had the most talented QB in our history sitting on the bench.
No. He played a less talented passer but proven leader. But you're too cynical for me, so you win. Moving on.
Urban said Dwayne would admit he wasn’t ready to play last year. But you’re right,Troll.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
Lmao. That’s Urban covering his ass. We all saw the scUM game in ‘17. Haskins was easily the better of the 2. Why is it sacrilegious to say Urban made a mistake? None of you have a problem saying that Davis sucked, or that Grinch made a mistake waiting until late in the season to play White instead of Pryor. Coaches make mistakes. Urban made a huge one with his loyalty to Barrett. That was my point to begin with; that Fields wouldn’t be coming here to run that offense.
Who's ass was Haskins covering when he said the same thing? How about Ryan Day? So either all 3 are part of a grand conspiracy to justify JT Barrett's status as the starter or perhaps Haskins truly didn't know the offense that well? Tough call.
Do you really think Day or Haskins were going to call out the HC? A subordinate isn’t free to speak his mind in such a situation, with the exception of Zeke, who told the truth. Anyone who believes Barrett was better than Haskins, will believe anything Urban tells them to believe. I know he was a great coach, but stop deifying Urban, and think for yourself.
So they went out of their way to trash Haskins in the media? Yeah, I seriously doubt that.
Yes, we all saw the game where Dwayne came in and cemented his status as the favorite coming into this season. I also saw JT lead an absurd comeback against Penn State earlier in the season. A comeback that I’m not convinced Dwayne was ready for.
Meyer has made plenty of mistakes and I would never say he hasn’t. But just because Haskins blew up the record book this year doesn’t mean he would have last year.
I will give you that JT played well against PSU. But name another meaningful game he played well in in 17. He didn’t. He was mediocre at best against Sparty, and then bad in every other meaningful game.
Really got to stop saying stuff like oh Dwayne would admit it..ok? What else is he suppose to say? Yea I was ready but coach loved JT so i knew I never was going to get chance.
What else is he suppose to say?
Exactly. Like Haskins would shiv his coach in the back.
Yet you somehow think Day, Meyer and Haskins would do that to Dwayne. Strange.
we had the most talented QB passer in our history sitting on the bench
FIFY. Passing ability does not make a person a better QB. It definitely helps, but the ability to throw is not the only factor. You need to be able to run the offense.
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Just like Pitt Brown had to start over Bell in 2013, or Tyvis over Hooker. I don’t know another program where kids left after 1 year and got drafted in the 1st round as much as Ohio State under Urban.
Yet they all started over high round picks for multiple seasons.
How well did Bell know the defense in 2013? Bell himself said he wasn't ready to play then, but that doesn't matter apparently. How about Hooker in 2015? How well did he know Ash's defense given he had 1 foot out the door pretty much the entire year prior to that. As for Barrett, both Haskins and Day are on record that he Dwayne didn't know the offense last year. So would it have been wise to put him out there when he had no idea what he was doing? Nah, I think I'll trust Urban Meyer on these decisions.
Hooker wasnt going to start over Bell and Powell. That's just silly. The Pitt Brown-Bell thing had some credibility because of the incompetence of Everett Withers but was also aggravated by the injury to Christian Bryant. If Bryant hadnt gotten injured in the Wisconsin game in 2013 we wouldve played for the national title that year.
Pitt Brown was terrible, and even an inexperienced Hooker would’ve been better. Just because a coach states one player is better, doesn’t make it true. Grinch said that White wasn’t better than Pryor or Wint until he finally got a chance. He was wrong. Do you remember how Troy Smith got his chance to play? Zwick got hurt. Tressel was obviously wrong on that decision. You seem to believe the coaches you like are infallible.
Ok, that’s a valid point. But how well did Barrett run the offense against SC, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Iowa, or scUM in ‘17? He mostly played poorly in big games his last 2 years. Our defense was mostly stout both years, so Urban relied on that to win while he shut down the passing game, because we didn’t know which team Barrett would throw the ball to. The idea that Barrett was great because he set longevity records, is naive.
He was also involved in blowing out OU...you are being incredibly selective in what you are recalling. His passing numbers were not always great but he was also the reason they won a number of games.
It would be nice if we could present a consistent picture of people. Instead of pretending they were just totally awful all of the time and should have been benched for an unknown at the time.
If you want to examine Jt’s final 2 years, he had exactly 2 great games against good-great teams out of 13 opportunities. He played very well against PSU in 17 and OU in 16. That’s it. And that doesn’t equal a good QB. Go back and examine his performances in the bowl games, the scUM games, Sparty, Iowa, PSU in 16, OU in 17, and Wiscy. All bad to mediocre at best. If any other QB for anyone else did that, we’d say they weren’t any good.
Yeah because we've just been so AWFUL since 2012.
I think Jack found a new screen name.
It fits him.
Read more carefully. I never implied that. I specifically addressed Barrett’s performance his final 2 years in response to the previous poster. Why is everyone so afraid to look at players objectively regarding their performance? JT was wonderful against bad teams. Does that make you feel better?
Give it a rest. This is a recruiting thread. Bitch about the coaches and players somewhere else.
How did this become a bash-JT thread. Thought it was a recruiting thread.
Paging Spooner to open a new thread
Happy new year
Well this thread went to shit in a hurry!
I’ve been around for a few years and have always enjoyed the recruiting threads.....They are terrible now. I don’t know if it is because everything is in one thread now and all the bitches are in one spot or...........
