Such a beast! Eleven Warriors may need to make a t-shirt about this guy.

AW is one "tough cookie" literally giving his all for the team. Great example. Thanks Andre for demonstrating what it means to give your all. And Kudos to the trainer and staff for immediately being on top of it.
Andre is one tough Hombre'!
Glad he's on our favorite team!
15-1 is SWEET!
Well, not gonna lie... if I had 3 teeth knocked out during a game, I would immediately be headed for the emergency dentist, the rest of the game be damned.
Andre is most certainly tougher than me.
Were the three teeth saved? Are the OSU dentists going to put them back in? (Can that be done? So many days later?)
Or is he getting brand new implants?
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
If the teeth were completely knocked out, then yes they can be put back in. If it is done very soon afterwards, less than an hour. More likely he broke them off above the gum. He probably needs root canals and crowns done. If they broke below the gum and the roots are fractured, then he is looking at extractions and either implants or a bridge.
Mouthguards should be mandatory for all contact sports, and I would throw in gynmastics and diving with the potential of trauma in both of those activities. More people lose teeth in basketball than any other sport.

Nice write up, now who you sending your bill to?

Same thing, albeit only one, happened to Jason Singleton in the '98-99 Final Four run. I remember him being escorted through the school the next week to get things fixed up.
That is toughness, my respect meter for Andre jumped off the chart. Some people just have that mental toughness to put pain out of their mind. He has shown fantastic improvement since last season, I think the off season medical problem may have really held him back last year.
I was coaching a U17 soccer team in a tournament when my goalkeeper went out for a high ball and jumped, and this kid from the other team cames flying in with a leading elbow that caught my keeper right in the mouth. He gets up from the crumpled heap and runs over to the bench with a pile of teeth in his bloody glove with blood streaming down his shirt and said "hold these, I gotta get back out there". Of course we sent him off to the hospital, he lost five teeth. Tough kid. No foul was called.
I know about "no harm, no foul."
But what is it when there is harm?
Probably just prejudiced viewing, but it seemed like their players came down on the Bucks more than a couple of times.

That’s one tough Buckeye!!

Mouth guards are a thing for a reason folks!
Speaking of which, is it just me that has noticed less and less players are wearing mouth guards, collegiately and professionally? I get why some guys don’t care the cumbersome-ness of knee pads or other things, but it boggles my mind why someone would refuse to wear a mouth guard.
This is definitely where I parked my car.
They see Steph Curry chewing on it the whole game and get turned off to the idea

That’s how older folks react. Young people would emulate Steph in almost all other ways. I think it’s the discomfort of wearing a mouth guard.
as a fellow "young guy" i can tell you i have no problem wearing or not wearing a mouth guard. i don't half-wear it for the entire game
Dude is a straight up baller
Here we come dabo !!

Clark Kellogg got teeth knocked out in a game and every OSU player wore mouth guards for several years after that. They are annoying to wear but are very necessary, as we saw.
Didn't the dean of dentistry do surgery for Kellogg if my memory serves me correctly?
You might be right. I was actually at the game when it happened. My dad and I went to all the home games in those days. It was a nasty shot to the mouth.
Do these student athletes get insurance or coverage if they're hurt during an OSU contest? I have two implants and I know how much they cost.. wouldn't want to stick that on a 20 year old..
For real. Teeth implants are serious cash (as well as a lengthy process)
And generally not covered by dental insurance even if they are medically (dentally?) necessary (such as a failed root canal that requires extraction).

Definitely are insured.
of course they do !

Man, that is one tough family he comes from.
Three teeth = Ouch. But I suppose it could have been worse, e.g. face or jaw fractures.
Get healed up and wear a mouth guard, Andre.

That is some serious toughness right there. I coached HS baseball for 11 years... one day was throwing bp and in spite of the L screen took one in the chops... left two uppers hanging by a thread
luckily my dentist's son was our shortstop... and he called his dad telling him I was on my way to the office even tho it was after hours
he met me there, essentially shoved them back into place, and then welded them to the unaffected teeth with some kind of compound... like a set of braces... to keep them stable
it was amazing they actually took... still have them and they are solid
take a lot better care of my teeth nowadays... losing them is a horrible thought
