And yet he'll likely do well there, even if not a star. Good luck to him, except when facing the Buckeyes.
i hope this is a joke. happ is more athletic than any big man we've had at OSU in like 25 years.
They can keep Happ and his foul shooting.
We would take Happ in a heartbeat and anyone realistic knows it. He isn't more athletic than Oden though.
Yep all those unathletic white guys playin the league.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
If a big man wants to shoot the ball and pass a lot, and not be encouraged/demanded to be a beast in the paint/low post, Wisky is the perfect system. I don't particularly enjoy watching it, but it is the best system for someone w/ Pottter's skill set and mentality of play.
No, it’s just Happ-enstance.
It was a joke. Welcome to 2018 where everyone gets offended and cries. I remember when 11W was ran by actual good journalist. Excuse me while I go back to lettermanrow
11W is still run by the same people. See ya.

I'm not sure what your joke was since it was removed, but we must remember that we live in a mod edit: really? Rudolph?)
Bingo. He made a Rudolph joke and we all got offended.

Maybe you’re just ignorant and unathletic? Idk
Racial stereotypes and an insult, keep it up Pat.
Best of luck, kid! Except when you play your former team anyway..
This should've been the first comment.
Good fit... they let their bigs roam and roam and roam and jack 3s... Hope he does well minus the games we play them..
Kind of annoying...
"Cause I couldn't go for three"
And watch him play out of his gourd when he plays against OSU for the first time. Where have we heard this before?
That;s ok, we took Brad Sellers from them.
But that was the 1930’s
80s, whipersnapper. The same era that brought you these beauties.
Sellers walked in my music store (1986)with Hopson. Both had matching Jeep Cherokees. Dude ducked way down to come in the door. I think he was taller than he claimed. Good times.
Standard door is 6’8”
I thought those were pretty classy statements from Micah.
Far more classy than some on this thread.
Go for it Micah. Chase that dream. Best of luck!
Agreed. He seems like a classy and good kid. Yet, as a fan you can still be a little bit irked by him transferring to another big ten school and still be respectful.
I'm having trouble with that too, but when you look at the fit, it does make good sense.
Gave you another upvote to counter that ridiculous dv.
I really thought he was going to break out at a forward position in a Buckeye uniform. Never understood why he was the starting center two years ago... Bummer. Oh well, best wishes and all.
I think that role was taken by Young and Potter didn’t like being jumped by the younger talent.
Young and younger, got it...
He was right that his skill set didn’t fit the system. He’s not quick enough to play the 4 the way OSU uses that position. That leaves the 5, which isn’t even a typical back to the basket position these days anyway. But he clearly didn’t want to play that role at OSU. Best for everyone to move on.
Good luck to him. He will fit their system well.
And he's already got the Wiscy haircut. Good luck to him, except, you know....

Didn’t 11W or one of the members make a joke about this the day he withdrew from school? I drink a lot, could be wrong.
I recall that as well.
I laughed at the time. Does Potter really have the flopping skills down to play there?
They break their own rules all the time
Best of luck, except when you play the Buckeyes!
I think he is right. He doesn't fit, especially defensively, the Buckeye's style of play. Good luck young man!
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
Does that mean he couldnt hack it? I mean, he said he wasnt maximizing his potential. It sounds like he couldnt keep up with play style, or conditioning or something. Im just wondering. I think his exvuse is a cop out, but it is what it is.
I was never thrilled over his skill set, but the style of play and what the coaches want to utilize does change, and sometimes it is no longer the best fit... And I think Micah liked the idea of being a stretch 4 with matta, which didnt materialize early on(but sometimes you have to pay dues as a young guy so under matta he might/probably would have gotten more of those reps),under Holtman I dont think he was ever going to, because there was a better skill set available for what Holtman wanted to do...
I absolutely do not think Micah's comments are a cop out, and DEFINITELY will not say it was conditioning or something because I always thought he played really hard...
Good luck to Micah, and agree with Other posters on Holtman being a class act early on... not blocking this transfer... Other coaches would absolutely not allow this(speaking of McCaffrey at Iowa, as he has said so during big ten round table... I always liked the guy till I heard him talk about several topics during that round table, not just what he said, but how he said it).
IMO...boils down to attitude, and whether team needs are more important than just individual needs.
The "I had to do what's best for me" is a haggard mantra which presumes who knows exactly what 'best' is, now and during college career; and, that that is a two-step yes or no call.
There's plenty of opportunities and options with Holtmann... and at St Elsewhere. IMO what indicates a Facade at work here is that the timing of Potter's abrupt departure was not in the best interest of the program - on the floor and in current recruiting. As for team needs, it's not too difficult - especially for 'size' counters - to 'see' a roster of two 6'9" players in the B1G style play is jest a tad... 'more' than 1. Essentially a 'my style' perception toward a team game, detracts and divides be cause it is the wrong priority for a team on a mission. Thinking that 'for team' or 'against me' is... zero-sum thinking, which obscures the uni-versity of team attitude and the spectrum of continuing growth and adaptation.
That said, good luck to Potter. Appreciate Holtmann's holding his tongue and not putting any obstacles in Potter's transfer.
As for our team on the floor... it's a 'come as you are' competition each game, of players competing in the Arena, come what may. What do OUR coaches do with a player on the court who indicates - for whatever reason[s] - he's not 'focused on the task at hand'? Yep... sits, 'gets counseling'... upon Coaches' assessment of how he received the feedback... returns to the fray. And how many times - due to injury or situation - do our players have to sub, adjust, even sit... to 'put the best 5 on the floor' for what's going on out there NOW? THIS is the continuing reality of team building and out-competing... not what we used to call in pilot training, "self-initiated elimination" [SIE].
A life-lesson for all of us. Thanks for your examples... every man on Our Team, and coaches & staff.
He signed with OSU because Thad told him he would end up at stretch 4. Holtmann wanted him as backup 5... simple as that imo..
Go1Bucks - Great approach - ask what it means, in a question! Great example of what TO do...and great place [Forum] to raise an issue!
"Couldn't" ? IDK, and now no one of us will know.
"Wouldn't" ? Asked ...and answered by his departure.
Facade? "Fit", is the tarp over the Ferrari of potential, the fact of a volkswagen negotiating the Rockies on a Road Less Traveled..
p.s. I speak from 'experience'... the good, the bad, and the ugly.
I hear they’ve got beer and cheese. There are worse fates.
Good of luck to him.

Good for Ohio State and coach for not holding some stupid grudge and saying he couldn’t transfer in the conference - ya know like most other schools would do. Yet another reason I’m proud to be a Buckeye.
Good luck to Micah. May he find the minutes and satisfaction he desires. And make sure to get that degree.
Sets him up nicely for a move to the Association.
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
You mean the Serbian Basketball Association?
Good Luck to him !
15. Ohio State
He should thrive there, if he is able to live up to his potential.
Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
I believe Potter will do well at Wisconsin. His first game against Ohio State will be must watch TV.
Sounds like its a moot point, but could Holtmann have blocked him from transferring to another Big 10 school? I always felt kids should be able to transfer wherever the heck they want but on the other hand I could kinda understand a coach not wanting to play against a former player several times a year.
It either suggests that Coach Holt is a supremely classy guy, or that Coach Holt is not very concerned with facing Potter twice, or maybe three times a year in B1G play. The former makes me feel better about my fandom.
Not sure I like the idea of allowing a transfer to Big ten team.
Sure also would’ve preferred a non B1G school but no matter. We have Holtman. And trust his guys to take care of businesses over time. Bucks in big dance , write it down!!
Well they are 15th now - not exactly a "hot take"!
oh I see, mr rothstein(Casino Ref), 15th in early December guarantees top 25 in March?
That look on his face was exactly what he did when trying to rebound for us! Kidding - kidding! Good luck Micah!
I think he may be able to develop into a solid offensive contributor.
I'm just not sure that his feet are quick enough for him to stay in front of anybody, defensively. I'll guess we'll see.
Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.
Potter is nothing but a liability on defense
" It's real good whatcha done Anthony, real good ! "
Yeah, I just don’t see how he will be able to play anything but the 5 defensively.
You nailed the issue
He probably will be playing the 5 at UW, too, but at least he has a much better chance at starting since Happ is graduating and we will still have Kaleb.
UW's style of play will hide his deficiencies and he'll probably be a 10 and 6 guy for them if he's a starter.
the empire never ended
Coach Holtmann is one of the best at coaching up his players and maximizing their potential. To bad Potter couldn’t take advantage of that reality and left his team for a rival.
Good luck to you kid.
I don’t wish him ill will like a ttun player, such as let’s say Chase Winovich (and when I say ill will, I don’t mean injury, just crappy success), but I have a hard time stomaching Wisconsin. I don’t have the hatred for the program I did about 6-7 years ago during the Bret Bielma/Bo Ryan empire, but still can’t stand the school/program/fans. Go to freaking Marquette or something Potter. He can say what he wants about Ohio State, but don’t tell me part of the appeal to going to wisky is the chance to get back at Ohio State and make us regret not starting him.
Always liked Potter but he struggled with consistently like many young player do. His injury didn’t help his progression and sometimes the window closes a bit and he was acutely aware of that and he made a move not being willing to give up his dream. There isn’t anything wrong with that. Big fella, big dreams. This isn’t Mickey Mitchell and Austin Grandstaff.
I Hate Michigan.
I do not think coach Holt is worried too much about Micah whipping our ass too much in the future with next years recruits coming in, plus this year recruits. He saw the writing on the wall as far as playing time here, both this year and future years and made a good move for himself no matter where he goes. Didnt there used to be a rule you cannot go on scholarship at the second B1G university you attend???? Possibly that has changed? Help me out!
potter's remarks were pretty damn classy. i hope he does well (against most teams)
Wish Potter all the luck except when they play the Buckeyes. I tend to think he's going to end up being about the same player he was at OSU. Probably could have gotten his minutes back up to 15 or so a game this year and maybe a bit more next year had he stayed. He's a quality backup big man. I don't see him as a starter on a good team but I also understand his desire to find out if he can be. Wasn't happening with the Buckeyes.
What's he going to do if Wisky's recruits are better than him?
I glad I cheer for a program and university that lets student athletes freely choose where they want to transfer if it doesn't work out here. Everything the opposite of the SEC.
a few choose discourse...
fratricide by a plethora of 'superiors' is by far the more 'poopular' choice...
===>Rationally, differences in values can only be reconciled by value[s] in common to the parties... that are greater than each party... and 'owned' by neither.
===>Practically, in the absence/denial of The Greater... us lessers are left to our devices... like animals at the salt lick....
Good luck Mr. Potter...and thanks for the dance...Go Bucks
I'm glad he found a program that fits him. I really liked his energy and attitude here, but as he said, he just got passed up by other guys and his talent was limited. Wisky is honestly the perfect program for him, they have made a living off "second tier guys" and this isn't to bash Micah, he just got passed up be Kyle Young and the class of freshmen that just came in. I wish it would have worked out for him here, it's fun when a life long Buckeye fan gets to live out his dream, but best of luck to him at Wisky except for when they play OSU of course.
Wish him the best of luck...but really? Wisconsin? He had to go to another Big Ten school?
Well just look at the picture, though. He will fit right in up there. LOL
Class of 2010.
I don't know, there's something treasonous when you leave and go to a conference school. I have always liked Potter and his game, even if I felt he needed to put on some muscle and be able to play under the rim. But oh well, we'll see how it goes when he has to play us.
I bleed scarlet...literally
Best of luck Micah!
16-2 is SWEET!
Wisconsin has made more good calls than not over the years, but we've seen Potter as part of a Big Ten program for two seasons, and he's not gonna suddenly turn into Frank Kaminsky.
The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.
I have no hard feelings at all and wish him well. I don't know that I totally buy that he doesn't fit our style, or fits Wisconsins better. I think he's always fashioned himself as a 4. He was never going to play the 4 here and was not going to beat out Kaleb at C. I don't know that Wisconsin does much different with Happ (or kaminsky) than we do with Wesson. Wesson is more effective closer to the basket, so he spends more time there, but he's allowed to roam and shoot threes. Now, maybe he thinks he has more opportunity to get on the floor at Wisky and maybe they will give him a shot at playing some 4.
Never was a fan of Potter at OSU, since he always seemed like a MAC player (at best) to me--that being said, good luck at Wisky, young man.
The obvious take from this move is that Potter saw Ohio State recruiting, players and program in a better position than Wisconsin's.
Not going to slam the kid, as he's not dissuaded his lil' bro from matriculating in Columbus. But I think his rationale for transferring is a bit weak.
