U-M is, in truth, a basketball school
They're not wrong
Shandy is not beer
It's all just a mirage
I wonder if anyone who is Pure Michigan is bitterly disappointed with this statement?
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Sultan of the sythe. Give it hell CalPoppy.
Holtmann is about to become Michigan's daddy too. He'll do to Beilein what Tressel did to Lloyd Carr.
"The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish" - Charlie Chaplin
I'd like to be able to dislike Beilein just on principle, but I just can't manage it. He just doesn't make a convincing villain. Of course I want Holtmann to own him, but "It's nothing personal, just business."
My aim, then, is to whip the Weasels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom. - William Tecumseh Sherman (with apologies)
Would anyone even really consider them a basketball school? They are not Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, or UNC. They aren't even the best basketball program in their own state.
I would argue that OSU has had just as much success over the last 20 years.
Lets call it what it is, they are a 2nd to 3rd tier football school and a 2nd tier basketball school.
Bears...Buckeyes... Battlestar Galactica.
In the last 20 years OSU has three Final Fours, 14 tourney appearances and 12 regular season/tourney B1G titles. Over the same span Michigan has two Final Fours, 9 tourney appearances, and 5 regular season/tourney B1G titles.
So it's actually not even close.
But their Softball Program has built a solid reputation!
You mean the women's softball team, right?
"If you're not changing, you're falling behind."
Yeah the one comprised of TSUN's finest athletes.
The Fab Five won zero Big Ten titles.
The Fab Five won zero titles, period. Jalen would like to have us thinking they were some powerhouse, but ultimately they were a top 10 team, that finished behind OSU (4 games behind), IU (2 games behind), then Purdue (1-game behind) in the conference standings in 3 years and behind Duke and UNC in the tournament - and that's IF you count their vacated records since Webber was being paid.
Ultimately the Fab Five were two of 160 teams to make the college basketball finals since 1939, really liked early 90s rap, liked Bill Cosby, and wore baggy shorts. That's it.
Titles won: ZERO.
The Buckeyes have 11 Final Four appearances overall. I included the one that was vacated. This is the most for a school with a primary uniform color other than blue. It is also the most for a B1G school and the 6th most by any team.
TTUN has 8 Final Four appearances if the two vacated are counted.
69 in 18
OSU has had far more basketball success than Michigan the last 20 years. Granted Michigan has had more specific to the last 5 years.
Well the football uniform logo says it all.
Nothing cleanses the soul like getting the hell kicked out of you - Woody Hayes

In Football they can’t face double digit seeds all the way to the championship game. I would argue they’re not much of a Basketball school, but hell, they can claim whatever they want. Everyone knows they are softball school. At least in softball they’ve won a National Championship in the 21st Century.
Softball seems like an ideal sport for them.
holy shit they are setting themselves up for a hard fall when we win the BIG in basketball. not sure where they go from there. i saw the other day they were pumping up their Director's Cup rankings, but were also resigned to Sanford winning it again. Pure Michigan........
The Ohio State Football Team : the makers of basketball schools
Perfect comment of the day Dew - nicely done.
Go get'em Cal Poppy - we are behind you !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.
Look at Belien's (U-M) head-to-head record vs. Matta (OSU)-----not even close!
I hope everyone realizes that the post was intended to be satirical--"The Harbowitz Report" is a play on The Borowitz Report, the satire column that The New Yorker runs.
I certainly did. But the best part about satire is when it hits a little too close to reality.
We all know football is the money-maker, not basketball. Looks like the people in good ol Ann Arbor are desperately trying to polish that turd we know as the University of Michigan athletics....
Well, Columbus wasn't looking for America, my man, but that turned out to be pretty okay for everyone.
TSUN has a more recent Field Hockey NCAA Championship (2001) than even their last shared one in football (1997) or basketball (1989).
They are a clearly a field hockey school.
A thing repeated will happen a third time.
The full read over on mgoblow is worth the click. The butt-hurt comments are fun too.
That's funny. I always thought they were a hockey school.
Many ways to select the criteria (OSU jumps into the top 10 in these polls when FFs are heavily weighted vs NCs, UConn skyrockets when championships are weighted higher than historical, success, etc.) but the Bucks are very frequently found in the 9-13th top program all-time and Michigan usually falls just below OSU. Nearly all of these types of polls have some order of UCLA, UK, UNC, Duke, and Kansas as the top 5, followed by IU and L'ville.
Ohio State Basketball vs Michigan:
NCs: Tied 1-1
FFs: Ohio State 11-8 (10-6 when accounting for vacated games)
Big Ten Conference Championships: Ohio State 22-14 (20-14 when accounting for vacated games)
BTT Champions: Ohio State 5-3
Head-to-head record: Ohio State 102-78 (best data I could find)
Surprisingly, even during the slide since the end of the Matta years, Ohio State has performed well, going 4-2 against Michigan on the hardwood since 2014-15 and never accomplishing worse than a 1-1 split.
