Reasonable plan of attack, Doug.
“COMMITTED RIGHT NOW”
Hoping he stays committed.
Really, really hoping so.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
If he reaches 110%, we’re screwed.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
He's not committed right now. Hopefully he recommits.
If I understand correctly, he is changing his plans to enroll early i.e. graduate High School early and enroll at OSU early, but he has not announced a decommittment as of now.
I could be misunderstanding the news though.
That’s the official story, but people who say "I just feel like with all this happening, I really have to go back and check all the boxes off," Nester told the Herald-Dispatch. "I'm going to take my officials to different places and see what's out there." are not really committed.
I agree, I don't see it much different than decommitting, but saying OSU still remains a top school for me. Sadly, neither typically end well
As a legendary son of Ohio (and nowhere else) once said, those who stay will be champions. Unlike when he said it though, these players actually will be champions.
I see he is from WV.
JI row end 78
extremely observant. thanks for sharing.
Im close to Huntington , Im pretty sure he'll end up at OSU when its all said and done.
I've heard Marshall is an alluring place to play...
They are Penn State Marshall.
Hey Cancer! This ass kicking is brought to you by the Guernsey county mafia. Give it Hell 84!
I guess we are going to find out that the allure of playing for a HOF coach, even with all other variables being exactly the same, is enough to sway someone to look around. Hoping we can maintain as much continuity as I originally thought.
I want a fall Saturday in Ohio Stadium..
It’s a big deal to play for Urban Meyer. Kids are understandably reluctant at first. I’m actually surprised the fallout hasn’t been worse.
It's early still. It may get worse. I certainly hope it doesn't, but it could.
Urban had systems in place to prepare guys for the NFL and life after football, in addition to competing for championships. Promoting Day keeps those systems in place, but without the rockstar appeal. Recruits just need to see that it’s all still in place.
If only these people could see that a lot of this year's appeal was already Ryan Day.
Those who say they can and those who say they can't are both right. Which one are you?
OK, step back and take a deep breath if you want. The Buckeyes are still here when you are ready.
I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late.
Here's the thing when I see stuff like this from commits:
On one hand I get it, things change, you want to think it through.
On the other this is one of the top 3/4 programs in the country. If you decide you want to look elsewhere, maybe that door get closed on you? Maybe your indecisiveness ends up with you having to look elsewhere. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Either way wherever he ends up, I know this aint easy for a teenager and wish him luck in his career.
It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.
I think all of the OL are decommitting or holding off because they seem to sense that Studrawa won't be retained. Probably want to see who is hired as a replacement...which I totally understand.
In the recruiting threads spooner alluded to Studwra having no relationship with any of the OL commits and that their relationship was with Meyer.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Sounds like another good reason to replace Stud
How is that possible? He’s been committed for over a year.
Has nothing to do with Stud. That’s just guessing
Lot's of PSU chatter about him in the past several days -- even before the UMeyer announcement.
I believe he becomes a Buckeye.
I'm not sure Franklin is staying at PSU with the chatter on him. This day and age it seems find a school you love because coach's are changing every year.
Wasn't there talk of Franklin leaving PSU for a west coast opportunity?
That was predicated on Clay Helton and USC parting ways, I believe. But I wouldn't be sad to see him go coach elsewhere, he annoys me in a multitude of ways.
"I say let us give them all they want; not a word of argument, not a sign of let up, no cave in till we are whipped or they are."
-William Tecumseh Sherman
I hope Franklin stays at State Penn. I love beating him/them almost as much as beating tsun/Hairball.
16-2 is SWEET!
So you want someone at a school that takes you to the wire every year? Why!??
He is a smug a$$hole
247 seems to confirm your hunch. Setting up an OV to Happy Valley for as early as next weekend, when they do their big recruiting weekend.
A lot of this will settle out when position coaches are confirmed.
Negativity is a choice.
That’s too late when 70% of recruits sign early
I think all recruits should take this path because he loved the school and that part hasn't changed. Two oline recruits tell me we will have another line coach and really think they have been told so with the staff being up front with them which is good. I mentioned in another thread we might lose both Wrays. The family seems very tight and not afraid to do whats best for the kids when they switched high schools . They can use Jake to shop around and find another home that the family likes and the brother could transfer to that school too. It would be hard to have two kids playing on Saturday at two different schools and everything else that goes along with college. I wouldn't rule that out and would bet a school in the south closer to home too?
Yeah and I do not expect Schiano to be back either as he will likely take anther job. I wouldnt be shocked if Grinch gets moved out as well. I wont complain, OL hasnt been really good and the DBs pretty much sucked.
Why move Grinch? He was the safety coach and his unit was the second best on our defense (which I admit, isn't saying much). He had a really good defense at Washington State and, even though he was called co-defensive coordinator, Schiano was making all the calls. I would give Grinch the DC position and let him have a year to prove himself. If we offer that spot he may not go to Oklahoma (who is rumored to be interested in hiring him away from the Buckeyes).
Ginch and Schiano aren’t going anywhere. Schiano is too good of a recruiter. Grinch is an up and comer. Damn he’s only been here less than a year. Sheeesh
These kids are making the safe choice. There's nothing wrong with that at all. Most will come back. I love me some UFM but Ohio State was pretty good before he got here and will be after he's gone. On second thought one thing does bug me. Lejond Cavavos saying he thought long and hard about the decision. It was two hours!
2 hours is an eternity for a teenager!
Well since you asked. Not 2.4.
He didn’t think about it for two hours. If you’ve paid attention to his recruitment, he’s been “looking “. This shouldn’t shock anyone. This was truly an Urban recruitment with his dads relationship
Throw that photo away of Paris Wray and Nestor away.
OSU has been negatively recruited against for the better part of a year. These kids were ripe for the picking once Meyer announced retirement. The class is going to collapse, but it wont be a crisis as OSU will destroy people next year.
The class might take a hit. "Collapse" seems a bit overly dramatic.
Interesting that UM has 11 Ohio players, while the Spartans have 29. TT'sUN will take a hit, should Ryan live up to his promise of heavily recruiting the Buckeye state.
Without a quarterback?
The 2019 class will not "collapse". No way.
2020, however, will be the first time OSU isn't pretty much promised the B1G recruiting crown in 8 years, however.
Let's just hope this Nester decides to Nest in Columbus yea?
Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.
How does graduating from high school early work? Is there a stipulation of college or can you just do it? If he's not enrolling early, does he have to remain in high school? I never had that option or even hear of such a thing when I was in high school.
Let's Go BUCKEYES!!!!!
If you meet all the requirements you need to do you can leave high school early for college.
You can just do it. Meet all the requirements for graduating.
We probably just never thought about it but I knew a few kids who from an academic standpoint were able to complete their high school years early enough to enroll in college early. Were not athletes, just ready to move on to the challenges of college.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Some elite schools like St X and St Eds and Iggy don't permit early graduation, but most state schools appear to.
If they meet state requirements, they can’t stop the money
My daughter graduated high school in 3 years ... not due to athletics ... she just hated high school and wanted it over.
You can finish HS early in one or two years as long as you have the required credits and classes to receive a diploma.
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
I have a feeling this is going to get worse before it gets better. @Recruits, all you need to know is that OSU is still OSU. World class education, world class football - come and get it.
Pain of Discipline
Pain of Regret
Take Your Pick
If you are not sure then get out and stay out.
TOSu really do not need you that bad. After a winning season and CFP talks there will be no problem in recruiting.
At a certain point this is not true.
We lose a lot of lineman this year and was having a hard time filling the spots they wanted not good if we lose both no matter what.
So in this case, “next” isn’t the proper thing to say?
Day has his work cut out. If he gets the majority of recruits to stay, he will have passed a major test.
Stop. The. Bleeding.
Some of us here must be on Warfarin we have a little cut and you think we are going to bleed to death. This class wasn't going to be a top 10 class no matter what. On the other hand if we fill spots of need that's what recruiting is all about for depth mostly down the road. I feel we will be getting a few Ohio kids to fill spots for that. Remember there names and see how they shake out down the line you Ohio talent lovers ha ha. Lets hope for a gem or two?
Yeah ... not as worried about this class as I am the 2020 class, as that was shaping up to be a great one. I think the just need to get with all the commits and map out ther future plans with them, and future plans with the program. Uncertainty in a program breeds uncertainty in a commitment.
I think it’s apparent we need to retain coach Stud as soon as possible. Or we may not be getting the Wyatt Davis, petite frere, josh Meyers and so on .....anymore. These recruits talk/ text with him everyday. Do it now.
Studrawa is not a good OL coach. The recruits like him as a funny guy but we need someone who can develop the players and improve them as the year goes on.
He had three all conference lineman last year? Because they like him? The guy can coach and recruit. Don’t forget how bare the cupboard was when warriner left. As urban has reminded us time and time again
So, what is the problem this year? The OL under-performed and was stagnant all year long. Those Linemen were not developed by him. Holdovers from the prior OL coach.
Maybe losing two starters to the nfl does call for some regression. Jamarco jones was developed by coach Stud. He had a horrible combine. Yet was going to start before he got hurt. How did know do when he stepped in? How did Davis do when he stepped in?
Heres a stat for you. Out of all the power 5 conferences. Which qb was pressured only 19.8% of the time? Best in the country..... Dwayne Haskins.
How was our running game? We had five guys over 310 pounds each and couldn't open up a hole for two 1000 yard backs. We were getting, what...maybe 2.4 yards per carry?
Since you asked. 4.2. Not 2.4
Padded with a few big games against bad competition (although the last two games when they went vanilla they got more solid in the rushing game) the average is artificially high. Guess we will have to see if Ryan Day agrees with you and retains Studrawa.
Maybe since we didn't have a run first QB in there it was harder for the OL to determine when it would be a run or a pass using the RPO scheme. Once they started calling pure run or pure pass plays, blocking became better.
Dabs is probably calling all these guys. Gonna get much worse before it stabilizes. Hoping for a top 3 Big10 class in 19 and 20 at this point
Here is a Zach Harrison report from TTUN if anyone is interested. We sorely need some good news now so I wish if he were coming to the Bucks, he would just commit now.
Michigan plans for second in-home visit with Zach Harrison
Tomorrow, Jim Harbaugh, Al Washington and Greg Mattison will all be heading down to Columbus in order to meet their highest ranked target left on the board, 5-star defensive end Zach Harrison, according to The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb ($).
This will be the staff’s second in-home visit after seeing him last Tuesday. This trip adds the benefit of having Jim Harbaugh along with them, who didn’t go last week. Having the Michigan staff in-home so soon after this gives them the opportunity to hammer their message home early and strongly.
As I discussed yesterday in the aftermath of Meyer’s retirement, this development may not be as momentous as it seems. Losing OSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson would have a much bigger impact in this recruitment, as he has the strongest connection with Harrison. Well, rumors are now popping up if Mike Locksley takes the Maryland head coaching job, Johnson is a strong possibility to join him as defensive coordinator. Michigan fans should be rooting for this to happen, as it would probably end the Buckeyes’ chances.
Locksley took the Maryland job.
I doubt Johnson leaves OSU and will retire here. I don't think Maryland can afford him and with Urban gone freeing up another buck or two could keep Johnson from leaving.
Is there some connection in the past between Larry Johnson and Mike Locksley?
Two offensive lineman on the same day say they are going to explore other options.... this is a coach Stud thing.. I'd imagine these kids are hearing he's gone or he hasn't been retained yet.. new head coach, limbo land at position coach = look around..
That's just an Urban thing... a decade plus of trust.. A kid could say I'll just go because I trust Urban will get the best position coach... Day has to earn that.. Much tougher sell for Day to say I'm not sure who the coach will be...
I do think it will go a LONG way with these kids if they announce the coaching staff for next season prior to early signing period... but Nester not enrolling early sure sounds like maybe that won't be the case..
I thought I read that the changes, if any, to the coaching staff won't happen until after the Rose Bowl. Coach Day has announced the retention of support staff but nothing about the field coaches and recruiters.
Quit being so damn logical, kid!
If the Florida recruit Cavazos goes to TTUN, he may experience the wrath of the Buckeyes within conference. If he chooses Saban, over the Buckeyes, he may still have to feel the wrath of the Buckeyes, Just sayin', Lejond! Decisions, decisions, for you too. We wish you well!
Seems like Urban is these guys security blanket. Look at your options and come back. We will still roll and if not, the team will rebound quickly if there is a bad year.
Rose Bowl or Bust
If they were really serious, it might be advantageous for Gene Smith and Urban to decide and communicate very quickly what his ongoing connection with the program will be. Urban was never going to coach these kids individually, but his continued presence in some official capacity might be enough to keep them from bolting.
While I suppose it was the honorable thing to do, doing so early is hurting.
These guys that decommit should do what Paris is doing , come in for an unofficial and see what's going on and what the plans are . The "unknown" will easily be found out once they have their questions answered. It takes 2.5 hours to get to Cbus from Huntington , not a long trip for Nester .
come to tOSU, where Mickey Marotti will put more hair in that beard of yours Doug. Oh and in position to have a shot at the National Title every year.
You were committed to a coach who: Has 2 undefeated seasons with no championship, 3 National Championships, Sugar, Fiesta, Orange, and Cotton Bowl wins, 7 conference titles (Including the last 2 in-a-row), whose worst finish in the Big Ten is tied for 1st in the Division, and has a .850 win percentage. The new coach has: 3 wins.
To be completely fair to these kids, Yeah, I would re-evaluate too!
person who is "committed right now"
"winning the moment"
