that's great news about Luther...    even if he doesn't play, it sounds like he will soon!

Nice opportunity to pick up a B1G road win early. Get 'em BasketBucks.

should be a sizeable win - illini are ... not good

They lost to the #1 team in the country by 6 pts and we struggled at home against them last year. It could definitely be a close game.

I play, coach stays. He goes, I go.

HS

they have played a difficult schedule but have had a couple games where they have not looked good at all  - 2-6 is  not what they expected this year

HS

That is true. Their style still worries me a little, especially since we are likely short a ball handler in Muhammad.

they have a true freshman-Dosunmu- who is going to be lights out for them

They've played some good teams, so their record may be deceiving. At least this game is in the United Center and not their on campus arena. Can't stand that place.

Question: Maybe I missed it but why has there not been more info, explanation or updates regarding Muhammad's condition. . . particularly potential time to heal and get back on the court?

HS

Because the "pundits" are too busy writing about football :(

OSU might not be releasing that information. Which is fine with me. We don't have any need to know what's going on with someone's health. The fact that he is listed as questionable for tonight is awesome, that is signal that he's close to being able to go.  That's all I need to know, and I hope he doesn't go tonight, we can win this one without him and let him rest up and heal up for bigger games down the road in conferee play.

yep, hold him out one more game and he gets a 9 day layoff to heal.  LM is a great find for Holtmann with a lot of upside.

Enjoy the wins over *ichigan, ....I still remember the dark days of the 1990's....

Due to final exams, this is OSU's last game until Dec 15.

Should give Luther some more time to recover.

Go Buckeyes! Beal Illinois and ace those finals!

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

Play the long game, and let him rest/recover.

I would not call the Syracuse loss decisive. If the goaltending call gets made the score is 64-60. Despite their 3 point shooting and the Buckeyes being cold they were never fully out of the game until the very end.

I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!

Looking forward to the game tonight & what adjustments to be made regarding the Illinois style of play.

They always seem to  play us tight.  Wasn't happy to see Jon Gross lose his job as I am a Buckeye/Bobcat hybrid.

I was curious about heights, etc. from guys who play the most for Illinois. Here are Stats & Info from Illini website

  • 1      Frazier, Trent*    G    6-1    170    So.     14.7 ppg
  • 11    Dosunmu, Ayo*    G    6-5    185    Fr.    13.1 ppg
  • 23    Jordan, Aaron*    G    6-5    210    Sr.    11.1 ppg
  • 15    Bezhanishvili, Giorgi*    F    6-9    235    Fr.    10.0 ppg
  • 2      Nichols, Kipper    F    6-6    220    R-Jr.     7.9 ppg
  • 10    Feliz, Andres    G    6-2    185    Jr.     6.8 ppg
  • 20    Williams, Da'Monte    G    6-3    200    So.     5.0 ppg

Illinois also has a couple of 7 foot centers in grad Adonis De La Rosa and freshman Samba Kane, but they play 8.4 and 4.7 minutes respectively, and they’re scoring 2.6 and 2.0 points per game.

* Likely starter

Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !

I was not as concerned about this game prior to Luther getting injured.

Luther was a guy who could attack one of the main Illinois defensive weaknesses--they overplay on D, leaving ballhandlers lots of opportunity to attack the basket, and they don't have a rim protector right now. I think CJ can still do this to some degree but Luther would have been big in this department with his length and quickness and he has some finishing ability--he's probably the only high-level slasher on the team.

Then on defense Illinois' gets the majority of their scoring from perimeter players. Ayo is a 5-star who can really drive, Jordan is a senior shooter, Frazier was a freshman phenom last season and while he's struggled a bit this season, he can get real hot and almost got Illinois a victory over #1 Gonzaga. Having Luther as a defensive option on the perimeter would have made a big, big difference. We need our guards and Jallow to really bring it on D.

If we can take care of the ball and see the same sort of team effort and execution that we saw against Minnesota, I think we will win. But we can't afford to be mediocre in this match-up.

the empire never ended

OK. And it seems Holtmann & staff are trying to develop this ability in wings and guards. In Luther's absence, this is an opportunity for Buckeye players to grow.

More opportunities to get better.

Yep. It's B1G opponent on the road. Gotta play well to earn a W.

Let’s go !!!!!

Illinois is better than their record, they almost beat Gonzaga, and they always seem to play us tough.

Any road game in the B1G is a challenge...won’t be easy, but I’ll say OSU 74 Illinois 68.

Let's Go Bucks!!!  Will have Bingo but will be at church, so may or may not be able to update Bingo.

I don't remember this many Wednesday Night and Sunday Night games...kinda frustrating because I have to watch them DVR'd...but I expect us to play well and continue to get better!

Go Bucks!
