Next year the deck will be stacked firmly against us against Michigan. That will be the most important game next year and it’s not even close.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Well you heard what Day said right? First you beat your rival. Then you when all the other games. Couple that with 62 and I'm optimistic for now!
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
Why do you think that ? Did their QB impress you ? Even a little ? Did their genius schemes and play calling strike fear in you ? Do they have a great back ? Or a great MLB ?
It looks to me that our schedule next year is the perfect set up for a first year coach with a brand new LB and DB coach.
Its not about what they can or can’t potentially do to the buckeyes, it’s more about the buckeyes needing to make a statement in days first year as full time HC. A new QB (presumably), probably have some new positional coaches, maybe a new coordinator on defense. Just a lot of variables and setting the tone for the game will be at a premium
No variables, most important factor is we are 14-1 vs TTUN.
Harbaugh is NOT a big game coach. Ryan Day took our team into Dallas vs a TCU ranked #15 that was supposed to compete for B12 title until it lost Kenny Hill.
Lets be honest, the the best part about Harbaugh (as is James Franklin) is really just his agent.
We get TTUN in the shoe. Do you realize how young our team was this year? We are one of the youngest FBS teams in the country. Watch, Bucks fav's by 10pts v TTUN next year in the Shoe!!!
I wonder what the spread will be in the Big House?
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
except that the game is in Ann Arbor... https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/ohio-state/
7 pts then.
Never mind, it was said a couple of times above!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
We get TTUN in the shoe.
Even years in C-bus, odd years in A-squared. I think.

Well I'm pointing more toward the fact that it is actually in AA so setting the tone for the game is even more important. That will be a must-win if Day wants to win over the fan base and set the tone for his run as the Buckeye's head coach.
The game is in Ann Arbor next year Bucks have 7.
m GO BLOW!!!
It looks to me that our schedule next year is the perfect set up for a first year coach with a brand new LB and DB coach.
The schedule looks really tough to me next year. We get what I think will be 3 of the 4 best teams from the West, with two of them on the road. And then we get Penn St. and Michigan in back to back weeks to end the season.
I love the way the schedule sets up. I feel like the at Neb and at Northwestern are less landmines historically than at Wisconsin, at Iowa, and at Purdue, not to mention at PSU. No at Illinois in Nov as well. And although PSU and at TTuN back to back is tough, we have a bye, Maryland, and at Rutgers leading up to that, so our health should be better for those big 2 games. And Urban will be around as much as he or Day want to help guide some of the stuff Day is still learning I suppose.
The only thing that could make that schedule go from tough to brutal is how the night games all sort out. To me that is one area where OSU seems to have to play more of, and it costs us occasional losses, but gains us exposure.
I just see @Nebraska, @NW, and vs. UW as quite a bit tougher than @PU, vs. Nebraska, and vs. Minnesota. I think Nebraska is on the right track and looked like a much improved team at the end of the year from the beginning. I expect them to be a fringe top 25 team next year. You kind of know what you are getting with NW and UW, tough, hard nosed, football. And I hate PSU and UM back to back at the end of the year. There is a reason SEC teams have chicken shit Saturday (UM plays IU that day).
In terms of B10 West. Nebraska may be the toughest game.
I don't know about that schedule being great BuckinNashville. we have PSU the week before ttun. we are always a bit beat up the week after PSU.
354 days until the sweetest (or saltiest) Wolverine years you've ever seen! Their asshole fans were convinced they just couldn't beat Meyer, and now they're going to think the door is open. But Ryan Day is going to slam that f*$cking door shut.
"We gotta go win this next game and make the State of Ohio proud!"-UFM
Their best shot was with Ed & Back running the offense. Day has a long history of going against Don Brown and obviously knows how to dominate his scheme as long as he has the athletes to beat one-on-one coverage (spoiler alert: OSU always has the athletes to beat man coverage).
The Buckeyes have historically done very well when the deck is stacked against them.
It’s when the deck is decidedly in their favor that has been problematic.
Which is true of amost every great team. Even Bama and Clemson struggle with poor teams on occasion, with occasional losses (for Bama, it was Ol Miss for a few years, for Clemson, last yr vs Syracuse)
“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Think about that, better than Tom Herman and Dan Mullen who coached J.T. and Cardale and Tim Tebow and Urban says Ryan Day is better...well look at Dwayne Haskins. Evidence is in Day's favor! Thank you, Urban!
It is hump day, and it is a new Day all in one.
And Michigan still sucks.
I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan!
Or a new Day Day all in one?
On the other hand, maybe the first Day Day is not until 2 Jan 2019!!!!
Sorry to see you go Coach, good health in the future. Spend time to heal fully. Then enter the shallow end of the pool. Can also make your way to the deep end, just do it slowly. Your still a very young man, you have a,lot of time to find your next position. Being really bright and hard working makes it all possible. You already know all this, most likely what you preach to your players!
I can’t believe “A New Day” wasn’t the title for the article announcing Day as coach.
Happy first Friday! I poured one out for Coach last night.
Remember the past but don’t live in it (fans from a certain team up north should live by that credo) and let us as Buckeye fans march forward into this brave new world - looking forward to what the next chapter brings!!!!
Thank you Coach Meyer; Welcome Coach Day and as always…

And yet still doesn’t know the crossing routes are coming.
That would imply he is wearing something other than the skirt that he wears.

I'm really excited about this coaching situation. Urban is an all time great coach, and I loved having him as our coach. But theres just something exciting about the unknown. It has amused me the last 24 hours how excited some Michigan fans are that Urban is gone. And I really don't think thats going to change much. Whatever pressure Harbaugh was going to have to win next year has now doubled. Like I said yesterday, I really think we changed conductors but this train is just going to keep rolling.
Coach Day has been learning the formula for the last couple years. Now it's time to execute it in his own way. I'm extremely optimistic he can do great things.
Could you guys blow more smoke ? Amazing.

Don't know what has L76 above here pantys in a knot. Try some of R. Day's slay #ichigan rear-end axle grease...
Thanks Coach Meyer for bringing your 'elite-brand' to the 614. It only took 40+ 365's to get a Woody statue, hopefully your's will be standing...before the Sooner's get to their next unlimited #(?) of CFP's.
How Do You Feel About The Ryan Day Hire ?
Welcome, Coach Day ! Since you were "Endorsed" by Thee Goat at tOSU to maintain your throttling of (skunk weasel 62-39's)...here's looking to you keeping the Vest/UFM *Owning Vibe* !
GO BUCKEYES !
HAMMER the Husky's !
Congrats to Michigan State as you were the only school to beat an Urb lead team more than once in 13 & 15. Our other Big ten losses are easy to list-State Penn in 16, Iowa in 17 and Purdue in 18. Five losses in seven years. Worse finish in the East, yup tied for 1st. 7 Big Ten East titles. You are the GOAT at OSU.
As much as we’d like to erase the memory, Clemson also beat him twice.
My reference above was putting into context his league accomplishments only.
Curse you Philly Brown!
Unless a loss keeps us from winning a National Championship I file it away as a learning experience. Only one loss to Clemson did that to us.
The only thing Michigan fans should be happy about is the potential recruiting drop off...schematically he will absolutely crush Harbaugh and Brown like he has the last two years. If the recruiting level maintains, the long winter will continue in the shithole.
"Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad." - Woody
I think Urban will still have a hand in recruiting, as well as helping to mentor Ryan Day going forward.
Any TTUN fan who thinks Urban has magically disappeared is likely in for a surprise.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
Anybody know how much Urban is allowed to get involved in recruiting when he is no longer the coach? There must be a raft of NCAA rules saying what he can and can't do.
He can recruit all he wants to. heh heh
I was nervous yesterday morning due to Days relative lack of experience, but his performance at the press conference gave me a ton of confidence. Not only did he say the right things, he cane across very personable and confident. I’m excited to see what he can do.
Throughout Coach Meyer's tenure at OSU, many on here have lamented and even criticized his loyalty to coaches and players. I tend to see it in a different light. With Coach Meyer it's about trust, not blind loyalty. He appears to be the type that gives you trust, but only after you have truly proven you deserve it. So that becomes a very small, but extremely capable circle.
Coach Day is one of those people who earned his way into Meyer's circle of trust. That's a big deal. And it tells me volumes more than any wiki article, coaching resume or a win-loss records ever could.
"You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, & in the manner in which you live.
So, live. Live. Fight like hell. And when you get too tired to fight then lay down and rest and let somebody else fight for you. "

I think you're right for the most part, Navy, however there were certain assistants that didn't earn trust. Everyone can list them.
Some earned trust to do their jobs. Others earned pity.
Texas Tom is definitely outside the circle of trust these days.
Navy, I completely agree. It was also the quickness in how he (appeared to have) gained Urban's trust. Day showed up and it was like "who's Kevin Wilson?"
The dude is an offensive genius, but can explain it in a way that a six-year-old could understand. He's also a genuinely kind and likable individual who makes you feel valued and listened to, even when you're just an inexperienced college kid with an audio recorder asking scheme questions, trying to get him to explain football to you.
Kevin's note about his personality was great to read since I, someone who is very much on the outside, got this same sense (genuine, kind, likable). Kevin confirming this just made my Day...
Joe Burrow continues to impress w some great insight on Day. Truly the best coaches do recognize the difference in their players, but also to impart that same sense of awareness on them. I imagine that wouldn’t be all too easy, to say the least.
As far as Lebron’s 2 cents...he can keep ‘em; not interested.
1. Today's lesson in epicaricacy: Urban Meyer will forever have a zero attached to his name when it comes to the rivalry, as in zero defeats. Harbaugh, on the other hand, also has a zero attached to his name, as in zero victories. "Daylight" begins on day 2,565.
2. The concatenation of health events leading to Meyer's retirement began after the 2014 National Championship.
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
Dear Honorable Gene Smith and President Drake,
Please lock up Urban Meyer for the next 10 years as a full time employee and goodwill ambassador of tOSU. Give the man what he deserves, leverage his talents to further THE great University with passion and excellence and keep him off the sidelines at another school.
Related question for the lawyers on here - what happens to the remaining years on his HC contract? Is it just not paid and frozen in place?
Correct, since he walks away, he just doesn't get that money.
Not that i think there’s any chance of this happenig, but I assume he’s also forbidden from coaching somewhere else until 2022? Did OSU have to give UF anything when he started here? Or is it just common practice to tear up the contract once the guy doesn’t work here anymore
According to his contract, any termination by the coach without cause allows him to coach at a new university immediately, but Urban would need to pay the university $2 million if it's within 12 months of his resignation.
I've been impressed with Coach Day since he got here. He clearly knows how to design the offense and develop quarterbacks.
We'll need him to find a way to rejuvenate the silver bullets defense though. You could argue we had a lot of young players getting their feet wet this year but throughout the season the vulnerabilities never got patched and that's concerning. In some ways I think the program is due for a bit of a reboot/fresh start.
Very happy to see Urban going out on a high note. Now let's put a rose in his mouth!
We'll need him to find a way to rejuvenate the silver bullets defense though.
100% agreed. Day is a great offensive mind, but he needs to take to heart what an Ohio State defense has historically been and demand it.
My worry on offense is that if, as seems likely, Dwayne goes pro this year, every snap with the new starter is going to be measured against him and if Day chooses a pro-style scheme, or a Martel led RPO heavy spread, a lot of fans are going to start moaning. I don't see the bombs-away school of QB fans being satisfied, at least in the short term, but on the other hand I have faith that Day will indeed design an offense that uses the best abilities of his QB1 to its fullest and at this point I have faith that the style chosen will be the one that leads to the most wins. I think Day is a QB Whisperer.
Never place a bet on anything that can talk.
All I know is that we can now have Urban Meyer's Least Favorite Play of the Game alongside Tressel's in the debrief articles now. Seems to me like it was all worth it...
Anything other than a QB run on 4th and short.
Kickoff out of bounds?
Isn't that his FAVORITE play?....(ducks)
Please make this happen. Also, is it time to retire JT's debriefing spot?
The designation may be essentially made up, but it is pretty cool that 47% of London is "green" and they are adding more areas. Beautiful city no doubt.
I want to believe in Ryan Day, and given his performance thus far and the faith Urban has in him, there is no reason not to believe this is a great hire. I did not need the two cents of Bob Stoops however, as it has always felt to me that more was in play at Oklahoma than Big Game Bob simply walking away. Urban has a multitude of reasons to hang 'em up, but Stoops not so much.
Anyway, welcome to the big time Ryan Day. Cannot wait to see how you smack the skunk weasels around in 2019.
"They say, "these geeks come a dime a dozen. I'm lookin' for the guy who's supplyin' the dimes." -Classy Freddie Blassie
Mouthful. Stoops can keep his 2 cents too. And living in Youngstown there’s constant reminders of how “great” the Stoops are.
Out of place here, but Holtmann is a funny cat. Which is a compliment. Lucky to have him.
I agree, Holtmann has had a number of funny lines in the past week or two.
RYAN DAY IS BETTER THAN TOM HERMAN AND DAN MULLEN
Well, he sure as hell better be, because Mullen's record is not even remotely close to good enough at Ohio State, and Herman and his bitch of a wife seem like pieces of dirt.
When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 70's
ok, cool. Hook 'em!
Fun note: Urban Meyer has more career coaching victories against Ohio State than Jim Harbaugh.
— Kevin McGuire (@KevinOnCFB) December 4, 2018
It will be fun watching little Jimmy get to 0-7 against the Bucks over the next three years.
ONE Not Done!
I don't find that note very fun. That 2006 NCG still pains me.
To me, the decisive factor here is that Meyer was not forced out after poor performances, leaving a broken program behind (as is often the case). He leaves a program behind that has never had more than 2 losses a season for the past seven years. He has groomed his successor who has been in and knows the program. The culture at Ohio State is very strong. While I am devastated that Meyer is no longer our coach, I think there is every reason to be optimistic that Day will experience a smooth transition and keep the train rolling.
"The minute we stop expecting greatness, we become Wisconsin."
To piggyback, I think the culture aspect will be Day’s biggest challenge. He has the horses to win, now. No question. But Urban came in here like the pied piper. Day needs to do it his way, no doubt. But he needs to keep the culture, the brotherhood ideal alive. That’s what future recruits will also buy into.
It will be interesting to see how well he recruits in the future.
Absolutely agree, but it's been interesting to read what the "experts" (Matt Hayes at B/R and Pat Forde, et al, if you really want to call hacks with nothing more than broad exposure in their corner) have had to say about that. Their position is that this is FL v2.0, and that all of the "cultural issues" that were exposed in his "comeback year" there and afterward are just waiting to be exposed here. They are so full of shit, and really, if they claim to be journalists, really fucking lazy journalists on top of it all.
The only thing that's new in the world is the history that we have forgotten.
Reading the bit about Coach Stoops's departure, and now Coach Meyer's, I'm thinking ahead to when Coach Saban decides to hang up the whistle at Alabama. There's a part of me that sincerely believes he goes out in a very different manner, possibly leaving the ship rudderless without a designated successor. It just doesn't seem to be in his nature to try to leave a legacy other than his own.
I prefer the course Coach Meyer has taken.
...Nickie Satan never going to die...
If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.
I know Saban is from West Virginia, so I don't think he has any previous connections or family in Alabama. I don't know for sure. He's essentially a carpetbagger, chasing the $.
But I DO know that UFM is from Ohio, was born here(Toledo), grew up here(Ashtabula), and came back here. Dude loves the State of Ohio, as do I. So I have a feeling he wants Day to succeed, and Ohio State.
I'm quite certain there will be a UFM statue outside of the WHAC someday?
I wouldn't be surprised if Saban is still coaching a few years after he has died.
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
The Human and the Elephant....I’m a sucker for the “character that launched a thousand stories” [in this case] story. Mouthful. That said, isn’t Babar kind of a thief here. I mean he found a purse and used the money to buy a new outfit? Aside from the new outfit image - I mean I thought they “Porky Pig it” at best, was he teaching his child it’s ok to help themselves to which doesn’t belong to them? Shouldn’t he have found a Bobby and turned the purse in? Obviously the Elephant makes for a great character to a child. Seems imposing, but a big softie. See Dumbo, Horton etc., or say even Ferdinand the Bull. Anyway my “soapbox” moment; it is a huge shame/injustice what hppaens to these creatures between trophy hunting, poaching, the circus, etc. Not to mention being forever linked to Bama and their kind.
You had me captivated, I had no idea where you were going with that, it seemed to be some sort of odd rambling, and then I read your last sentence. Well played sir, well played.
With the exception of Gary Williams, who was here for only 3 years, Urban is now the only men's BB or FB coach to not be fired/forced out at Ohio State since the 50's. The last football coach to accomplish that was Paul Brown.
Heard that on BTN yesterday before the press conference.
The question really is, how many coaches have actually left on their own terms? Not many.
Stoops, Beamer, Bowden (sort of?). Maybe a few others. It's a very short list though.
Very short list indeed. Bryant and Osborne are innit as well. Alvarez. There’s maybe one or two at the major schools, but they are the exceptions to be sure. More often than not, schools like Bama, OSU, ND and others go through coaches fairly quickly. Even guys like Spurrier, who left to UF for the NFL, don’t always end their careers the way they’d like to.
Bowden really didn’t
Wes Fesler "officially" left per his own decision, but was actually forced out due to his lack of desire to endure the pressure of the Ohio State fans. That pressure became too intense for him to bear after the 1950 Snow Bowl loss to Michigan, and his call to punt the ball with only seconds left in the half that led to a blocked punt and UM's ( and the game's) only TD.
Missed most of the news details yesterday, but I think its a great Day for OSU.
I C what you did there.
Who's ready to wear (like a monument: 85 yrds thru the heart of...) UFM 7-0 OWNS skunk weasels...t-shirt.
Hello dry goods.
So many possibilities.
I wish that Lebron had accepted that offer to play even just one year on the hard courts before heading to the NBA. If for nothing else, and from reading his texts, he could have benefitted from a standard Freshman English course focusing on grammar.
It helps having him be a buckeye fan, but I swear there was a sound bite of him talking to the players before a game saying something like “that’s why you wear the scarlet and red...”
Ryan Day is the best thing to happen to the Ohio State offense since the absence of Tom Herman
Hmm. Probably Cardale meant this differently, but it reads like Herman's absence was the last best thing to happen. I wish the backstabber had maintained his absence from our program.
Here's hoping for bitter irony.
If Herman had played his cards right, instead of being a pompous backstabbing douchebag, he might have been Ohio State's next head coach.
Now he will sit and see Ryan Day surpass his MENSA ass.
Tom has Texas roots. I’m pretty sure that’s his dream job, not OSU. Fickell on the other hand, he might be kicking himself for leaving and taking himself out of consideration. I’m not sure he would’ve gotten the job over Day, but it’s hard for me to believe they wouldn’t have given him a shot.
True, he has Texas connections, but would turn down the OSU job if it were offered? Especially when you were an assistant on a NC team? But Tom had to burn bridges with his backstabbing.
As far as Fickell goes ... miss that guy. He's done a great job in Cincy. But it's generally hard for defense-minded coaches to have stability as a head coach, because great offensive coordinators go in and out the door. Nick Saban has found some way around it, but many don't.
The best thing about Ryan Day taking over is that he has no long-term relationships with the football staff. I was not too confident that Coach Meyer would do all that was necessary to make changes this off-season.
Day has already said that he will retain several important staff members but has not mentioned any coaching positions. My guess is that he keeps LJ (no brainer there), Grinch, and the DB, RB coaches. Wilson may be retained as OC as well if he doesn't decide to move on. Studrawa is probably gone and Davis and Schiano also.
I did like one thing Day said yesterday about the defense. Day said something about keeping the defense simple (basic defense anyone?) so that the players can play fast and not think too much. I really think this was a huge problem for us this year.
i wonder if the CFP committee is wishing now that they would have picked the Buckeyes to play Alabama in the CFP semifinal (probably not). One can only imagine the ratings that game would get knowing that this could be the last time that Saban vs Meyer would occur.
We will need a new QB coach. Mr. Guiton is coaching wide receivers down in Houston. Probably not quite ready to make the jump and I would think that Day would have others with more experience on the short list. But we will keep an eye on old #13, especially if Meyer continues to have the ear of Day while spending time around the WHAC. I’m thinking whoever Day hires to coach QBs is with us for 3-4 years and then around 2023, “welcome back, Kenny G.”
"Woody would have wanted it that way"
Oh YES!!! Please bring Smooth Jazz back to C-Bus!!!
The fans would like it, but Guitton doesn't have any ties to Day. A more likely candidate would be someone he worked with on the Eagles/49ers that knows the Chip system that Day likes to run.
I actually want Day to stay coaching the QB's. He can hire another coach for another position.
GO BUCKS!!! *ichigan sucks!!!
We have, probably, three weeks before Schiano and Wilson and others are likely to be in front of cameras in an official capacity as coaches where they can be asked for their thoughts and what their intentions are. Will likely hear their names floated for other jobs in the meantime. Maybe they take one of those jobs and end the suspense. In the meantime, unless they decide to tweet about it or accept another coaching job this month (which would suck as it is really an “all hands on deck” sort of situation with recruiting), we will have to wait awhile for any idea about the rest of the staff.
"Chris Holtmann brought recruits to talk to Urban Meyer?" Of course he did, when you have access to a legend you use him. Billy D. was spitting that truth back in G'ville when he espoused the idea that being the basketball coach at a football school is a positive not a negative. He used Urb and the football Gators as a recruiting tool. Winning is fun and can be contagious.
Anybody else feel slightly cheated? These last four years we only got to see one team, which ironically was the least deserving, in the CFP. I’m not blaming Urban at all, it’s just not fair we never got to see another one of his teams compete against Alabama. What he’s accomplished in his short career is virtually unmatched, and he deserved another shot at greatness these last two years. It’s not fair that we never got to see him and his players ball out when it matters most.
PS - my saying “it’s not fair” is the epitome of a spoiled fan base lol
Coach Day is an offensive genius AND he plays snooker ... truly impressive! :P
The will to win is not as important as the will to prepare to win. -- Woody Hayes
I think the challenge for Day and essentially any other coach that follows Meyer is recruiting on the national level as successfully as Meyer has. If you look at most college football rosters they are dominated by players from the region the school is located. That is true even for Alabama and Clemson. It is possible that no coach will be able to attract talent from as far away as consistently as Meyer did and if that becomes the case how will it effect OSU's production on the field. Ohio does not appear to produce the level of talent it once did, or at least Meyer didn't approach his recruiting as if it does. That OSU will continue to be a top tier football program I have no doubt. The question is will it be an annual contender for a top four ranking or will that become more of a hit and miss event. Time will tell, but honestly Day could be a fantastic coach and still not match Meyers recruiting success. Very few coaches have.
I think Ryan Day is the right choice given the circumstances..If Urban was fired maybe blowing things up and hiring someone on the outside would be better but in this case a seamless transition that of course will have bumps in the road is the best option given the situation! Thank you Urban! Go Bucks!
According to an FAU police report, a Twitter post published about 1 a.m. Tuesday read, "Bey I gern f---ing kill dis professor bey this is my confession to a premeditated murder." The tweet was posted from "@Ashelaniqua, Cutie Claus."
If this is an English Grammar final (is that even a course offering these days?) then he might as well stay home. IMHO.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Ca you imagine the Buckeye nation response if Dwayne Haskins came out with a decision/statement that said he is staying to develop another year with Day and to help the Buckeyes and their new coach transition smoothly? That would save recruiting classes as well.
He would be revered as one of the greatest Buckeyes of all time. Lets face it- it could be risky but my guess is he would continue to light up the stats.
