I know the one aspect of coaching that Urban probably loved the most was recruiting. I have a hard time believing he will be able to be away from that for very long.
Urban retires on Tuesday, then there's a 5 Things on a Wednesday:
Leave one wolf alive....and the sheep are never safe
“He’s the greatest coach, at OSU, in my lifetime.”
Feed the trolls
I find it amusing the people who dislike Urban the most are people in the media; most of whom have never played competitive sports & none have coached at a Elite National Level. They have no clue, yet they run their mouths.
It's known as the pc crowd. They are the ones who tear down anyone who has accomplished anything.
The same assholes who are trying to ruin everything because everything offends them. They're toxic douchebags
Urban Meyer >Jim Harbaugh for ever and ever, Amen. 0
THIS LOYALTY thing of which we speak. Couldn't bring himself to fire someone until AFTER the person who gave him his start left this earth. Terrible thing this loyalty....only helps in fox holes.
You can say that again...
That was definitely a mistakes but Urban's legacy is far more than that. By all accounts he is an excellent person and we all know that he was an elite coach.
Oh wait, you already did...
He's human. He made a mistake. I prefer to remember the great things he has done for OSU and the countless young people he helped shape into good men.
We need a banner ceremony during halftime against TTUN in 2020. Hopefully Jimmy is there to watch.
Statue in about 10 years.
So if there is "Jim Tressel's Least Favorite Play" maybe we can have "The Play Urban Meyer Least Wants to be Around"?
Who is blue, fast and likes rangs? The Dankey Kang.
The Urban Meyer "Best play he's ever seen."
Awesome 5 things. That 2014 run was absolutely epic, it can't be said enough. I love that about Urban the coach the most: his way to get teams so confident and pumped up that they can beat anybody.
Beating Bama much worse than the score showed was priceless. And the 59-0 over Wisconsin was pretty much the most unbelievable and satisfying Buckeye win I've ever seen - literally almost flawless victory.
Beating Bama much worse than the score showed was priceless.
That victory over Bama went down to the last onside kick.
Winning that game was priceless, though.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Only because Urban inexplicably threw a deep pass to Spencer when we had the ball with about 2-3 minutes left which stopped the clock.
Urban has a great arm though. I was shocked to see him trot onto the field in his windbreaker and let that pass fly. /s
Seriously though, that call was likely made by Tom Herman.
could be, but I thought it was widely speculated that Urban called that as a "reward" to Spencer who, quite honesltly, was not the greatest WR but was a ridiculously good blocker and always gave 110%
Wisconsin drubbing and to think every play was scripted.
"There are 3 things that can happen and 2 of them are bad" - the Curse of Woody Hayes
This back to back run from JT to UFM has been amazing. We wanted perfection and this is as good as it gets. We all had our frustrations at times but in years to come the positives will always out way the negatives. Hope he becomes the next "I" dotter for TBDBITL
The one big thing I'll always thank Urban doing was get the SEC monkey off OSU's back by beating Bama (after losing 1 billion bowl games to the SEC under Cooper). Yes, Tressel beat Arkansas, but that didn't exactly get SEC fans' respect. Beating that Bama team in the first CFP did exactly that, and no one can ever take that away from us.
Yes, Tressel beat Arkansas, but that didn't exactly get SEC fans' respect.
That didn’t exactly count anymore either. It’s no longer officially recognized.
I love how this man is a loving legend, but the B1G never saw him as good enough to be coach of the year. They really should be ashamed.
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
Imho, he should have been named coach of the year this season. '18 was one of his most masterful coaching jobs, next to '12 (he definitely should have won it in '12). He had to help his team through a ton of adversity while in, at times, tremendous physical pain. Then, after all that shit, he helped orchestre a historic beat down on the nerds up north.
Chemicalwaste. I believe that list included Jim Tressel as well.
B1G Coach of the year should be “B1G Most Improved Coach of the Year”. Which eliminates Ohio State Buckeyes because when your the best almost every year, there is little room for improvement.
It has been misnamed for the last 30 to 40 years.
Would Ryan Day be eligible for B1G coach of the year at Ohio State? Undefeated record, national champion in his 1st year... or will that be viewed as residual effect of Urban Meyer? Undefeated record, back to back national champion in his 2nd year.... or will that be viewed as, been there/done that last year, so no B1G coach of the year?
THE GREATEST RUN OF ALL TIME
No doubt. I was only 20 years old for the 2002 title run. While I loved and appreciated it for all that it meant, it doesn't compare to what happened in 2014 for me personally (I was also able to attend the Sugar Bowl and National Championship in 2014 and didn't in 2002). Namely because of my age and ability to appreciate a title run better, but also because of the underdog role of a blue blood program for 3 straight games. That just doesn't happen.
...nothing will ever top the magical three-game run to claim the 2014 national title.
Correct - that was something to behold. In my lifetime it topped my other greatest sporting memories of Jack Nicklaus in the 86 Masters (very close), the 1980 US hockey team, and the 1991 Atlanta Braves run to the pennant.
Tressel's Buckeyes upset of the unbeatable 'Canes for the Natty didn't make your list? Tough crowd.
UFM is one of the best recruiters I've ever been around. Great, on a historical level. A prolific talent collector. He will be missed in that area, maybe more than any other. How could he not?
Thanks for the memories, and best wishes to Coach.
The shame here is that you have argue that Meyer’s positive contributions outweigh his negatives. Coy media responses aside, it seems pretty transparent what kind of man Urban Meyer is, what kind of coach Urban Meyer is, and the level of dedication he gives to players present and past. If you can’t see that, you’re coming in with your own agenda.
Excellent take. So much vitriol sent his way, only in the name of making a name for oneself. Urban will always be a legend, and honestly, I always expected a 15 year stint for him before retirement.
I am 75 years old so I spent a lot of time rooting for the Buckeyes with Woody as the coach. I really liked Woody but I just think there is nobody like Urban Myers in college football. I have an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach just thinking he has only one more game to coach. I know Ryan will do a great job but I do worry about maybe having a drop off in recruiting as quite a few recruits came to Ohio State just to be coached by Urban Myers. I would love to see Urban still be involved in the recruiting that would really upset TTUN for sure. I just hope we totally blow Washington out of the stadium and send Urban off to victory in his final game as coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Outstanding. Thanks coach!
Urban is the best coach OSU has ever had! (Not as entertaining as Woody though!)
