Huge. Day's audition needs to include these things: Beat TTUN, keep recruiting alive, and reshuffle that defense. If he does those three things, he will have me completely on board.
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
Add fire the OL coach and I'm on board.
Uggh - 1000% committed kiss of death!!!
No, no, no. 1000% is still good, it just adds another -th to the level of commitment. Now, 110%...
110% is the kiss of death.
I'm good with 1000%.
**EDIT** Nevermind. What BR4 said.^^^
"It's always scotch-thirty on my island."
Given that Wilson is A-a Columbus native, w/ family still in Columbus, and B-probably still very salty towards Tom Herman for dragging him into the whole Zach Smith fiasco, his comments don't surprise one bit. He also said back in August that Ryan Day leaving was the only thing that would cause him to re-open his recruitment. He's an Ohio kid, even if he went to HS in Austin,Tx.
Yep. I think Strip Club Tom permanently lost Wilson for good when his recruiting vendetta towards ZS was exposed for the world to see by Snook. I can't see that bridge ever being repaired. Wilson's loyalty to OSU has only strengthened since then. With Day still in the fold I think we will get to enjoy Garrett Wilson in the Shoe for years to come no question.
Meyer said that Day is a great recruiter and I believe him. I don't think we will see any setback from the GOAT coach retiring. Like some of the recruits said, they committed to a program and the program has a great legacy that will endure.
What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!
Despitine wishing UFM had satyed at least 10 years, I see a few positives:
1. He left prior to signing day so kids will know up front the deal and not be surprised. That was a class move instead of continuing to recruit and then bolt. I would not be surprised if he has already reached out to recruits to reassure them.
2. He isn't bolting for another school and trying to get recruits to follow him.
3. We're still THE OSU.
No doubt other coaches are already on the phone bad mouthing Day. Still 3 and 0 plus an exciting offense, along with stablity in the program since it appears key staffers are staying are all pluses.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate.
It's not like Meyer did most of the recruiting anyway. He had a huge hand but we've still got the guys who did the legwork. Plus unlike some other places, Meyer built a culture here of family, love, and brotherhood. That's what Ohio State has always been except for Cooper, and that's what most of these kids signed up for.
See you in Indy !!
It's not a rivalry .............. it's a wreckoning.

Offensive recruits aren't a concern with how well Ryan Day has done with the Ohio State offense and development of Haskins. The concern is shoring up the defense and getting top recruits. Will be interesting to see who Day retains. I expect him to keep Grinch and LJ, if he wants to continue coaching. My guess is he will try to replace Davis and Schiano may look to move on.
I suspect Schiano pulls a Mack Brown and returns to Rutgers.
Our honor defend, so we'll fight to the end !
Would be fine with having Chris Ash back as DC as a result.
A thing repeated will happen a third time.
I don't know. The guy who made RUTGERS successful for the guy who can't make Rutgers successful...?
Ignorance isn't bliss for the rest of us.
To be fair, Rutgers is in a tougher league now than it was then.
I was only half-serious.
Didn't they say they are giving Ash another year?
Have you ever seen a fierce animal who you were sure wouldn't bite? Because I haven't.
Rutgers AD said after RUs last game Chris Ash will be returning for his 4th season Next Year.
Ash is returning
Retaining the incoming class and performing well next year will be huge to keep Ohio State on top and continue the flow of top recruits. Defensive recruits are probably the only real concern, considering Day has already proved himself to run a great offense
If you continue to think what you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. #AlumforStaff
Auto UV my man
My concern comes after the season with how bad the defense has performed. Day has to set a precedent and there will need to be some turnover.
Let's see where we land after that, however, this is a very good sign.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
Those QBs aren’t stupid. Haskins has a lot of god-given talent but Id want to play for whatever coach was in charge of that too.
if he can't get the top defensive recruits, then we should leave the B1G and join the big12.
Honestly, I'm surprised by Lejond no comment-ing. He's the one dude I thought was 100% solid, but I totally get it. Hopefully he chooses to still attend, but I understand if not.
Glad to see everyone else reaffirm their committments!
"I call them That School Up North because I hate them."-Woody Hayes
Position coaches matter... has to see who Day retains and replaces... He's 2020? Got time to re eval.
I think Meyer was the primary draw for him. If I recall correctly, his father has a connection to Meyer and they’ve known each other for years.
Cavazos commitment was based on his dad being old buddies w/ Urban. Some of the current players/commits-Dwan Mathis, Taron Vincent-even scolded him for repping Oregon stuff on twitter. I'm not suprised he's no longer a commit.
Buckeye Fan translation of these comments - "Every single one of these guys is off to either Ann Arbor or Death Valley."
Re-Booms! Love it.
Fields of Dreams
These re-affirmations are awesome. I'll be doing backflips backrolls once some key DEFENSIVE recruits can do the same thing.
Harrison would have had to been told this was coming. Gosh I hope that they were as up front as possible with him if they ever wanted to land his pledge.
Everybody wants to be heard, and the easiest way to be the loudest is to be the hater
Got to believe that was one of Coach Meyer's calls. Likely one of Coach Day's first calls too!
Beat everyone, in every sport, all the time!!!
If Haskins stays...look the F out. Day will have this train ROLLING.
I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.
I Believe In Ohio State.
This gives me a sense of comfort... it looks like these coaches have worked hard in the recruiting process to build personal relationship with their guys. This seems to be huge for them with staying committed to this program.
Can't wait to see what the next 5+ years with Day have in store!
I think we will be just fine with Day as our head coach, but I do wish that Lejond reaffirmed his commitment as he is a very important piece of the class. UFM was second to none when it came to putting an emphasis on recruiting, and I do think he will be missed greatly. Day has big shoes to fill, but I believe in him!!
Now we find out if we have a system or just had a superstar. I am leaning toward system based on the overall quality of our coaches and their desirablity for other jobs that come open. People don't poach B amd C talent, unless you are TTUN.
Glad these guys are sticking. Hope we don’t have a world of hurt coming with some others.
"I am very shocked about it, but I wish Coach Meyer everlasting success cause he’s a GOAT," Cavazos said.
Query: can one be "a GOAT," or only "the GOAT"?
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I think I see exactly what you're saying. You're saying we need a coaching goat on our sidelines. My God, man, I think you're onto something!
I noticed that as well. There is "The GOAT" and then there is the rest.
Continuity on the recruiting trail is what this move was all about. The relationships that have been built by Day and others in the program (Mariotti, Pantoni) help ensure that the program continues to recruit at a high level.
Exactly. Urban thought this out and wanted the program to keep on running with as few hiccups as possible.
You're too stupid to have a good time. -Dalton
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
I really think Schiano is a great coach ( that 2016 D was for real) and he gave us M.Hooker.
B. Davis can go , to me the regress of J.Baker was the evidence of his incompetency.
Studrawa also is not doing so great and he started by chasing away player because they were no good but he showed no progress with none .. Prince , Jordan.. etc.
The jury still out on Taver Johnson but I know he is not developing or recruiting on a high level like his predecessor .
The rest of staff should be retained IMHO.
"If you take it to em and you keep takin it to em , hell there's no question whose gonna win" W.W.H
I am continually impressed with the talent of the young coaches in college football today. I'm confident when the dust settles we will have a coaching staff worthy of tOSU standards. I would really love to see a crew of fresh young guys at the helm. (disclaimer: I'm old)
I have been concerned about the defense as well but if we can keep LJ as assistant head/ d line for at least two more years, we will be fine although I'm ready for a new D coordinator . .Urban has been a great coach as was Tressel in a different way.. If Day approaches their level, we should be a top 10 team for years to come and Day will continue to bring the passing game and the great receivers - the thing that keeps you in every game and something Tressel and Urban didn't always have to offer.
You know, had Dan Mullen not left Florida for Mississippi State, he would have probably gotten the HC job when Urban retired there. I figure we skipped the whole Will Muschamps/ DJ Durkin/ Jim McElwain / Randy Shannon era!
Fabulous news about key recruits being still on board. Things will be different. If you're in the business of catching football's - things may be even better.
I read that Mikhail Sherman from DC texted Urban after his surgery, do things still look solid for him and the other two from the same school?
Look on the good side. If he said 1000% maybe he will be here 10 years !!
Hey...at least i’m trying.
it's heartening and refreshing to see young men 'hit the curve ball' of a tough at bat... with men in scoring position.
the players read to lead in their re-affirmations... are just as important as those who think the better course is to 'review the bidding' to see more about whether 'the new name in town'... is a new game in town.
if i read my 11w recruiting stories from 'reporters'... accurately... then,
i rememeber Urban over his years encouraging recruits to think things through and consult with their influencers, rather than knee-jerk pull the trigger. Of course there were exceptions... for the timeline, timing, other players' decisions....
Good to see indicators that this Urban Meyer 'culture' word, so oft overused and underexplained... can also be of lasting value... to those who keep seeking certain values to stand on...come what may.
Even John Cooper was able to get top-notch recruits at Ohio State, mostly because it is Ohio State.
What makes the difference in level of success is the development of said top-notch recruits.
I am willing to see what Ryan Day can do with the Ohio State Football Program. I think he will do very, very well.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
Have the feeling Marty Smith drives a monster truck.
The announcement gives Day ample time to mend any ruptures or uncertainty that Meyer's leaving may have caused. I can't imagine that any offensive side of the ball recruits would be concerned with Day taking over. Changes to the defensive staff could be in the works and that might cause some issues. Bottom line is that for the program to remain elite the recruiting under Day or any other coach is going to have to be high level. Day is going to have to get it done sooner or later so he might has well get started now without any rumors unsettling recruits and parents.
97.1 The fan stated Steele Chambers had "no comment" as well about his commitment. Well that SUCKS.
Have we heard anything from Parris Johnson?
Nothing is too difficult for the person that doesn't have to do it.
