The Seven Year Slaughter
"When you're part of a team, you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them. You protect them through good and bad, because they'd do the same for you." Yogi Berra
Or in Jimmy's case, the 7-year itch?
What's round on the ends and high in the middle? Tell me if you know!
Stantman. Everyone thought this was about to be another "10-Year War", including me, but "The Seven-Year Slaughter" sounds SO much better! Go Bucks! Screw Blue!
Hate to see him go, but I'm excited to see how the offense will continue to evolve. Perhaps Day will not have the blind loyalty that Meyer did with the coaches and players who are not performing.
"Because I couldn't go for three."
Took a peak over at mgo. Plenty of comments hating that he retired without them beating him one time. Most of the other comments are about how despicable a human being they think he is and good riddance.
Priority #1: Beat Michigan
Meanwhile, the OC that dropped 55 on them is here to stay. They're still fucked, and are probably too blind to see it right now.
What a despicable human he is:
Real Life Wednesdays, letters to veterans' families, players doing community service...what a horrible person.
Damn, he gave that kid cancer then had his players steal Christmas gifts? That's honestly messed up.
LOL, is that you MGo?
Nice, Very Nice
You win with people.
Hey - that's me!!
Just got back from MGo myself. I know that Meyer always preached having respect for our rivals. But I certainly have no respect for that fan base. They are shit heels. All of them.
Now I'm upset we gave them the mercy knee late in the 4th quarter, should have punched it in and then gone for two. Fuck Michigan!
I was thinking the same thing! What better way to prove the 7-0 point than to hang the big 70 on them :)
Michigan entered the game favored, with the No. 1 defense in the country and a chance to all-but punch its ticket to the College Football Playoff. Instead, Meyer's Buckeyes hit them with 62 points – the most Michigan has ever surrendered in regulation – giving Harbaugh an 0-4 start in the rivalry.
I may need to make a plaque of this paragraph... Priceless, absolutely priceless! It put tears of joy and pride in my eyes when I read that.
I thought about popping over there but decided I will only do it when I want a cup of their tears. Their comments ripping Meyer never contain any analysis or facts, but instead, start with the conclusion he is an awful human being with buzz words thrown around (Aaron Hernandez. I thought those murders happened while he was employed by the Patriots?) I guess I have to remind myself of how much pain he has caused them, which in turn, has resulted in an abject hate that is not based on anything other than having their soul crushed each November. Urban, thanks for everything. Please pass your Wolverine Slayer secrets on to Coach Day.
You are entitled to you own opinion, not your own facts.
That's the whole beauty of it.
Coach Day doesn't have any baggage. If we beat them again in Ann Arbor they will be scratching for excuses. It will be wonderful.
"We get paid to score touchdowns, not kick field goals"
-- Urban Meyer
All sites have their share of numbnut posters, but MGo takes the cake. There are a few rational posters there but they get shouted down by the groupthink that decides on a narrative and thinks it becomes true through sheer repetition.
It's also shows that even with the best universities it's garbage in, garbage out.
If you continue to think what you always thought, you will continue to get what you always got. #AlumforStaff
That’s my coach! Thank you Urban and Tressel for letting me grow up with never losing to that team.
The world is yours
My sentiment exactly! I'm so happy I got to see all of Urban's games against TTUN in person.
Number 1 rule in life: always beat That Team Up North.
I will always be grateful to Coach Meyer for "slapping those filthy skunkweasels" each of the past seven football seasons! Really going to miss that man. Hopefully Coach Day will continue the traditional yearly beat down.
I loved Urban's passion for The Game. If there is one thing I hope Coach Day carries over, I hope it's UFM's passion for smashing Wolverines.
"Attack the Strong, Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead!"
-Former OSU S&C Coach Lichter
Day has been coming into work in a building with a literal countdown clock to The Game for the past 2 years.
I think he'll get it.
Urban Frank Meyer - The ULTIMATE Wolverine hunter
My favorite season was his first season here. It was no fantasy and the most hands-on, intense display of HC'ing I've ever witnessed since the great one.
OMG, what a magical year. Expectations were super high, we were coming off an awful year, and that team was so fun to watch. Have no doubt we would have slapped the crap out of ND in the Natty that year had GS self-imposed a bowl ban the year before.
When does the box set come out?
Go Buckeyes Beat Michigan
I’m praying for him anf his family. I’m praying he can get surgery on that cyst and then return to doing what he does best. If not at OSU, hopefully the Browns. He deserves a shot at the NFL. At the very least, I pray he’s taking over the OSU athletic office or in some way is still working for OSU. Love Caoch Meyer and all he’s done for OSU. God Bless you, Urban and Shelley and the rest of the Meyer family.
Round on the ends and "HI" in the middle. O-HI-O.
The 7-0 mark vs. Michigan is obviously just amazing... But I think if you separate those 4 wins against Harbaugh, they stand on their own. Brady Hoke was a victim of circumstance. Harbaugh was supposed to be the savior and he got his ass owned by Urban Meyer.
Urban Meyer left an incredible legacy. 12/4/18 Ryan Day begins his.
I hear Jim has Urban's signature tatooed on his ass...
Not only does he finish 7-0, he does so with an average score of 40-27 in The Game. That is ownership.
I could read this over and over... and the topper, Harbaugh can never beat Meyer (he will likely never beat Ohio State anyways,) but, he can never beat the best!
After a bitterly disappointing loss to Michigan State in 2015
I snort laughed at this one
Glad I got to witness this last year of beat downs first hand before he Retired! Thank you Urban for your Loyalty and sharing your time with Buckeye Nation. Good vibes and blessings to you and yours.
"If you take no risks, you will suffer no defeats, But if you take no risks, you will earn no victories."
The 2018 version will live on forever. Arguably the best version of The Game I've ever seen.
Make preparations in advance. You never have trouble if you are prepared for it.
2018 was amazing. But 2015 and 2016 were fantastic too. In 2015, they talked all that smack leading up to the game (similar to this year) and they got curb stomped. And in 2016 they choked away a 10 point lead.
"Because I couldn't go for 3."
Legends never die.
2012 was my Junior year and Urban Meyer was going to be our savior. He was taking over a team that, by Ohio State standards, was just plain bad. I don't think anyone expected him to go 12-0 that year and so when the clock struck zero in the TUN game that year it was pure jubilation on campus. It felt good to be back on top.
thank you for 7 unforgettable seasons
We've always had the best damn band in the land...
- Jim Tressle
Coach Tressel brought the belief back, and coach Meyer cemented the team's dominance in the B1G and TTUN and top-5 team annually on the national level.
Thank you, coach Meyer.
Enter a new era for OSU. I hope it is close to as successful as the last 7 years has been, which in my lifetime at least was the best ever. Thank you Coach for your contributions!
So how did Urban do in his last game at the Shoe?
this might be my favorite thing I have ever seen in my whole life or ever will see again.
Never get tired of seeing this awesomeness!
I saved this when you first posted it after 2016 and it never gets old.
I send this to my Michigan-grad friends after the game. A true classic.
The GIFT of all GIF's
I'd rather be a minute early than an hour early, 'cause I like to procrastinate.
Some of my favorite memories in my whole life are of seeing Urban on the sidelines, pumping up the Horseshoe. Especially in 2016, we went WILD when we all saw him throwing those arms up.
And i was fortunate enough to attend 3 of his 4 wins at ohio stadium. I'll never forget those days.
People have to talk about something just to keep their voice boxes in working order so they'll have good voice boxes in case there's ever anything really meaningful to say. - Kurt Vonnegut
These past 7 years have been glorious. The Cooper years are almost buried in my memories.
It's a new Day! Keep it going coach!
You Got Barbecue Back There!?!?!?!
HAHA. I wish I was there, but it lurks...
Yea - What's that thing about history, you must remember or you will be doomed to repeat it?
Born and bred a Buckeye - Buckeye 'til I die
Exactly! hope they lose every game every year until the program folds.
Best of luck coach! We'll miss you, but never forget you.!
7-0 is SWEET!
16-2 is SWEET!
The Cooper era occurred during my formative years as a Buckeye. That’s why I never take beating That Team for granted. What Tress and Meyer did this century is just exceptional, and I’ve loved it every time. I hope they send him out by completing a career sweep of the 5 biggest bowl games (Fiesta, Orange, Sugar, Cotton, Rose)
Not to turn the page too quickly, but imagine the weeping and gnashing of teeth up north if Day and co head up there and pull out yet another W next year.
"Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other one thing." - Abraham Lincoln
Not to turn the page too quickly, but imagine the weeping and gnashing of teeth up north if when Day and co head up there and pull out yet another W next year.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. ~ Mark Twain
many feel... "The 7 Year Itch"
few consider the significance of the Number 7 as the number of, not 'perfection from progress', but...the ancient number of 'completeness'.
I hope they (staff and those recruited) never forget the importance of this game above all others! For we shall never let less than our full measure be given to this and during! If they fail to embrace this then remove them regardless of other accomplishments!
I am more than happy with the national title to loss vs Michigan ratio of the past 17 years!
I would rather be on hand with 10 men then elsewhere with 10,000 - Timur Lenk
So your making a 7-OH shirt, right?
That's why I'm here! I'll take 4, or 7.
I've been through Ann arbor one time. I pulled over at a gas station and forced a poop.
Thank you Coach Meyer for keeping the best rivalry in sports in the Buckeye win column.
When you were announced in 2011 I was distraught. How could Ohio State hire the guy that destroyed the 2006 team? You were not incarnate evil, but pretty close.
Now, after ripping the heart out of ttun seven (7) straight years, you are pretty close to the best to ever coach Ohio State. I still believe Coach Hayes is the all-time best Buckeye coach. You belong in pantheon of college coaches and Ohio State coaching legends.
Thank you for all you gave and all you brought to Ohio State. I am truly glad that Ohio State made the decision 7 years ago to hire you. I wish you renewed health and vitality. You have earned the lasting gratitude from Buckeye Nation.
It is 9:49 a.m. PST and ttun still sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Choke on it, blue! You NEVER got the better of Urban Freaking Meyer!
"The only good thing about it is winning the d*** thing" - Urban Meyer on The Game The War
Much love for Urban, and very thankful for his time here.
Serious question: Is 7-0 better than 9-1 against TTUN?
I get that 100% is better than 90%, but you never know with 3 more games.
The Ohio State University - "Haters love us!"
Baskin Robbins? Nah, Haskins Dobbins - KannonMic
What stands out so much for me is the GREAT love both Coach Tressel and Coach Meyer for the state of Ohio, the greatest state in the Union. May that always be the largest part of the equation and especially when playing those rotten-rat bastards up north! Go Bucks!
Man, what a coach.
I soooo wish a recruit would commit today to take some of the sting out.
My daughter was only few hours old when I held her and told her who Urban was what Buckeye football was all about as her mom slept in the hospital bed beside us.
I'm twenty-eight Goddamn years old. My memory of following Ohio State Football begins in 2001. I only remember two times we've lost that game.
In my life.
"The height of human desire is what wins, whether it's on Normandy Beach or in Ohio Stadium." -Wayne Woodrow Hayes
Consider yourself blessed to never know 2-10-1. I'm not so lucky which makes me extremely thankful for 7-0!
Like I said above--that always lurks in the back of my mind.
Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Fuck Michigan. Thanks, Urb.
Seven years, seven wins. Meyer was as good as you could ask in the only game that matters. If that were his only legacy, it would be enough.
Yes, yes it would.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
The greatest 7 year stretch in Big Ten History...7 and OH vs. our rival..7 straight division championships ( or big10 championships as Dad says), 3rd greatest winning % of all time...and they all belong up on his mantle next to all of those big10 Coach of the year awards...wait? what?! i know it's mentioned here all the time, but it's insane to think with 3 hall of fame coaches since, our last coach of the year was Earle in '79
Live with that for eternity, UM.
They are literally going nuts over on mgoblog.
They think their time has come.
Good luck, suckers!
Respect Urban Meyer for impact at University of Utah. Always humble, knows His Savior. Mentor for players . Role model in community. God Bless you Urban Meyer
"Great teams have great character. These are teams that are not distraught that they're down at halftime." - Keith Jackson
