Great insight into the full situation

Didnt realize how bad it actually was. Chris Carter put things into perspective

Successful people do what they have to, whether they feel like it or not

Cris at 5:30: Urban says Ryan Day is the best offensive coordinator he's ever had, even compared to Tom Herman and Dan Mullens. Calls him very innovative.

I like it. Urban probably used the words "best I've ever been around."

At 8:40, Cris says last year, Urban believed he could coach 4 more years and could win the national championship 2 of those 4 years. Dang.

Meyer's cyst situation far worse to CC than led on. Wants to coach, but physically can't.

"There's still some green showing before you see the chalk."

HS
chibucks's picture

Urban was Cris's receiver coach when he was at tOSU, so they've been friends for 30+ years.  The cyst in Urban's brain ruptures or leaks a lot of times he's stressed or anxious, or excited, so he will get splitting headaches as evidenced in the past.  Cris told him to quit coaching because he doesn't want to speak at his funeral and he owes it to his wife and kids and grandkids, but Coach had made a commitment to the kids and to the school to finish out the season.

Coach has questioned his decision, but the more rationale heads, his wife, Cris, kids are holding him to his health first and he came to that realiziation.  Operation on the cyst is a possibility, but the doctors aren't optimistic.

Other tidbits:  Meyer says Day is one of the brightest offensive minds he's been around (including Mullens and MENSA).  Meyer's dad thought Meyers would be the coach at tOSU and that came true.

HS

Just an edit, Cris said Meyer told him Day was THE brightest mind, not one of them

haha, true.  I hate absolutes, so I paraphrased it.  :)  thanks for the edit.

I think it loses a bit of the umph when you say one of, since Meyer has had guys like Herman and Mullen

I almost lost it when CC said that he was worried that he was going to see his friend die coaching. That put it all in perspective and made me thankful that Urban is taking care of himself.

Seriously. Hope the guys win one more for him. Be great to see him go out with less than 10 losses and 7-0 against those assholes from the mitten state.

HS

I'm guessing from what Carter said that Day will be mostly in charge, with Urban on the sideline. Still, Carter is very concerned that Urban shouldn't even be there as it is a risk to his health.

HS

Agreed. Think the next month will be the same as when your boss asks you to train your replacement after giving your 2 weeks notice.

Wow that is great insight. Sounds like Urban stubbornly wanted to keep coaching but the people around him stepped in and said you can’t continue to do this.

Its pretty telling that Cris Carter refused to go to the Michigan game because he thought something might happen to Urban on the sideline.

HS

This definitely puts things in perspective.  He risked his future to leave on his own terms.  Thank God he didn't have something serious happen to him on the sidelines.

Great video, thanks for posting. Excellent antidote to my misfortune to listen to Finebaum 's take this morning.

HS

What did he say? This was all I could find, which was the opposite of what I thought I would here(very complimentary).

HS
buckeyeupnorth's picture

He said on one of the am morning sports TV shows that he isn't really surprised by this, that it was apparent from Urban's press conference in August after his suspension were handed down by his body language that his relationship with the administration at OSU is fractured if not totally shattered.

I'll be honest, I changed the channel. Finebaum couldn't resist implying that Urban was either being forced out or knew he was likely going to be fired this year because he has a bad relationship with the administration. Of which Finebaum has zero evidence other than Urban being understandably upset at his situation at a press conference three months ago.

HS

Finebaum is a wormy little tool and should not be taken seriously by anyone outside of about a two mile radius of Tuscaloosa.

This is a hell of a lot better than Herbstreit's interview on ESPNU that I heard on my drive in to work. He somehow managed to go from praising Urban for his accomplishments to ranting about how political the CFP committee has become and how badly they screwed up by not putting Georgia into the playoffs.

Always been a Herbie fan, but recently he has had some doozies.

Herbie certainly knows how to appease his employer. ESPN has laid off so many people that you would have to be crazy not to give an opinion that serves the best interest of your employer and Herbie has it down to a science.

Or, maybe, he just has an opinion(a very very bad one at that). A bad opinion that Buckeye Nation doesn't like doesn't mean he's a fake buckeye or "toeing the company line". Isn't it possible he just had a terrible opinion on the matter?

HS
RK84's picture

I think he gets on bandwagons. Make some crazy comments, then moves on.

There may be some talking points suggested by his employer, but I don't think they are pulling the strings on his opinions.

HS
buckeyeupnorth's picture

I think it's more like Herbstreit can't stand to be wrong. Continuing to plead his case that GA should have remained in the playoffs after just losing to the clear #1 playoff team last weekend is bordering on nutty. He would do himself a favor by letting that go instead of continuing to insist he was right and 13 professionals on a selection committee were wrong.

HS

13 professionals on a selection committee

LOL  - not to your comment, but the selection committee as a whole.

I shed a tear listening to Cris, thinking about what might have been--both the great, and the tragic--if he had continued to coach. Just thankful that Coach Meyer was wide enough to know his own limitations, and that we had one of the greatest coaches ever at the helm for 7 years.

HS
jamesrbrown322's picture

If everything that CC is saying is 100% accurate (not saying it’s not), then I hope Meyer never coaches anywhere else again. No matter how anyone feels about someone else, rooting for anyone’s physical demise is despicable.

The composure and thanks that Buckeye Nation has for Urban Meyer is how he should have treated him after winning two national titles for the UF program. With what's known today about his condition makes their treatment of him even more egregious.

HS
rosycheeks's picture

This segment was all about self-promotion. As much as I love that he's a Buckeye, CC and his cohorts there are all about themselves. I don't trust a word of it. It was about positioning themselves as informed.

Related: Nick Wright is a clown. I'd love to see him and Stugotz in a cage fight except I want the cage thrown off a tall cliff.
