This is great. Much deserved!

We all know how great he is and now he’s getting some recognition. Here’s hoping he can pull it off.

Man….. this football team.-Jeff Okudah

Go1Bucks's picture

Based on media reports and interviews, he won't, but he should based on all available stats. Haskins is 1 in every category except 3 and 2nd in 2 of those behind only Minshaw. Not sure where you got your stats.

Go Bucks! TTUN tears are best! Beat Wisky!!!

HS
Patriot4098's picture

Among the finalists, he’s second in overall yardage.  Second in completion percentage. Third in yards/attempt. Third in QB rating.  He IS tied with Kyler Murray for first in TDs tho.

HS
Gobucks2112's picture

The best excuse I have seen for why Murray should win was that he has thrown the ball less and has the same completion percentage and therefore he is better. Uhm..no, if you throw the ball more chances of your completion percentage being higher drop significantly, not only that but the chance to throw more INT's increases a ton, so for Haskins to have a 70% completion rate, only 8 INT's with over 100 more passing attempts means he is hands down better than Murray. Haskins should win, its not close, to break Drew Brees' record, on pace for 50 passing TD's and possibly 5000 total passing yards if we go out aggressive in the Rose Bowl is something that you do not see happen against Big Ten defenses, could you imagine the passing numbers he would have in the Big 12??? Lit up the #1 defense for 398 and 5 TDS, just rocked Northwestern for 499yds and 5TDs. It would be a travesty if he didn't win it, however the ESPN narrative that they want to push is, "Look at how amazing Murray is, playoff birth, Heisman and MLB player." I get it, he is a good athlete, but put him in the SEC or Big Ten and he still would be good, but I doubt you see him put the same numbers up, just wouldn't happen. Haskins should win, deserves to win, but will lose due to bias and anti-OSU rhetoric put out by ESPN and its contributors. Sad but true.

Let's go! He better win it. He's so much better than the other two

That's a Buckeye touchdown!

HS

And he's head and shoulders better too.

Just getting invited to NYC is a compliment. Tua is the unanimous winner, but Haskins will be drafted high and do just fine. Hope he goes to a functional team. Not the Bengals or Browns.

HS
Barnsey69's picture

Amen brother, NOT the Browns or Bengals.

Thank the Maker that I was born in Ohio, cradle of coaches, US Presidents, confederate-stomping Generals, the Uncomparable  Joe Burrow, and home of The Ohio State University Buckeyes- 2014 UNDISPUTED National Champions!

Not a bad consolation prize for a Natty I’d say. He definitely deserves it!!

Should win it. Numbers are outstanding

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

HS
analyticalguy's picture

Unfortunately, the numbers of the other two finalists are also outstanding.

HS
seyekcuB's picture

Tua looked like shit the first half vs. Citadel. Plus if you look at their stats it's not even close. Dh has 47 td and over 4500 yards. His 6 performance vs the #1 ranked passing defense was the most impressive of the year. That said they will probably pick someone like Tua because it's all bs and bad for ya.

HS
TheDizzle's picture

Kyler Murray is the favorite right now

HS
bleedscarletpissmaize's picture

His rushing yards may be the difference here.

HS
Gobucks2112's picture

See that's what I have the problem with. I get that he is a good runner too, but against what defenses? The best defense they played I believe was TCU and OSU played them as well! Haskins has better numbers against better defenses, that right there should win it for him. They keep screaming well he has more passing attempts, while true, he also has the same number of INT's and the same Comp % as Murray. Think about that, he has more chances to have a lower completion percentage and more INT's but he doesn't that alone should win it for him. Its a biased award any more. Lets be real, Zeke should of won in 2015. Barrett should have in 2014. The fact Braxton Miller never got one either its really surprising.

"You got barbecue back there? Hurt my feelings!"

HS
kmp10's picture

Not Murray. That would give OU 7 trophies, I believe, and two winners in a row.... and they got the fourth spot in the playoff. I've had it up to here with OU/Mayfield/Lincoln Riley/Murray.

HS
BuckeyeJay's picture

Should be

Kyler 1

Haskins 2

Tua 3

Unfortunately Haskins will probably end up 3

HS
RBloodworth's picture

Will be:

1.) Tua

2.) Murray

3.) Haskins

Too many people put in early votes this year.

HS
ohiowhitesnake's picture

I read only 10% voted early. Not sure how accurate that is.

Man….. this football team.-Jeff Okudah

HS
AnaheimBuck's picture

You are correct.

Also, Haskins will be the QB of the three who will do well in the NFL !!!

AnaheimBuck

HS
LFC Buckeye's picture

You're probably right but so much of that is out of their control. Get drafted to the wrong team and end a promising career like what happened to Pryor.

HS
Spivan's picture

Only 10% submitted them early, but I'm betting another 50% or more had already decided they were voting for Tua/Murray 6 or 8 weeks ago.

HS
LFC Buckeye's picture

I dont buy it should Murray. His yards per attempt are great but that has a lot more to do with play calling and the league. Not to mention haskins threw against much better defenses.

I find it very upsetting how people who are supposed to be authorities dont appear to look any deeper than superficial numbers.

HS
Byaaaahhh's picture

I find it very upsetting how people who are supposed to be authorities dont appear to look any deeper than superficial numbers.

HS
BrutusB's picture

He also has a better completion percentage and his rushing numbers are outstanding. He’s really really good. We don’t need to shit on him just cuz we like Haskins.

HS
JoeCleveland's picture

Yes his numbers are outstanding but he also did it versus INFERIOR competition....

HS
LFC Buckeye's picture

His comp % is like .5% better with over 150 fewer passes. And I'm not shutting on him. I didnt say he was trash. Comparing the 3 QBs I just find Murray less impressive. I also dont care too much about his running even though it def counts. Haskins still has more total yards and TDs, and even though I know the stat isnt kept, he has a lot fewer YAC.

HS
BuckeyeJay's picture

Haskins has fewer total yards and the same number of total TDs as Murray.

HS
Crumb's picture

He should win in a landslide. But my faith in committees who don't answer to anyone is non-existent. What is and what should be are two different things in college football.

HS
LFC Buckeye's picture

Zeke should have won over Henry easily :/.

HS
Crumb's picture

And he would have if it hadn't been for Tim Beck.

HS
actionstanleyjackson's picture

God I would love to see what he could do in his  second year as a starter. Don’t think we will get that chance

Stay golden, Ponyboy.

HS
Spartan13's picture

I had no idea Tua wasn't a very good runner. He finishes the georgia game Bama loses, I'll be mad if he wins it

HS
osu992's picture

Well, he breaks in half every time he tries. So he throws a bunch of TDs early then calls it a day.

New Day for OSU. Same noon for TTUN.

HS
stpetebuck's picture

Dwayne did a lot of that too. But at some point you have to make a lot of great plays. Deayne attempts way more passed which makes it way harder to be s +70% passer

HS
LFC Buckeye's picture

He also throws down field and at covered targets more. The simple fact has completed as many balls as Kyler has thrown makes his % astounding. It's a lot easier to throw 10 balls and go to the locker room after your receivers rack up 200 YAC for you like Tua does.

HS
RBloodworth's picture

A good chunk of the votes were put in before Saturday, so don’t be crushed when Tua hoists the trophy (don’t hate me, but my personal vote would go to Kyler Murray).  That said, it’s a tremendous feat just to be invited here.  Will Grier, Gardner Minshew and Benny Snell can’t say that.

HS
BuckeyeJay's picture

I got downvoted already for saying Kyler should win

HS
analyticalguy's picture

And looking at the numbers, you're both right. Highest passer rating, and far and away the best (of the three) at running the ball.

HS
BuckeyeRy4's picture

Dwayne, thank you for the wonderful year. What a joy to watch.

HS
Brutus's picture

It’s too bad Heismans aren’t still won in November instead of August (or in Tua’s case, last Januaury). Haskins has  been the better player all season and against tougher competition. What he did over the last three games alone should be enough for him to win. Alas, this is another beauty contest that he’ll/we’ll end up on the short end of. But congrats to him. Much deserved.

HS
Neilwoodgables's picture

Those stats show that he was the best qb and it really isn’t close

I Hate Michigan.

HS
Brandon26841's picture

And if those other guys had the same number of attempts as Haskins, their numbers project to:

Murray - 5,902 passing yards, 58 passing TD
Tua - 5,654 passing yards, 62 passing TD

They all 3 had crazy good seasons. To say the other two aren't even close according to the numbers just isn't accurate.

HS
The Rill Dill's picture

That’s also that many more chances to fail, as well.

HS
I_Run_The_Dave's picture

Not sure that hold.  Is 1 20 yard reception better or worse than 2 10 yard receptions?  You only get so many possessions so you can only get so many yards/touchdowns.  So I don't think you can just extrapolate on attempts and compare based on that.  It also depends on the defenses you play.

I will say that Kyler having those stats on 200 fewer attempts is staggering, but Haskins shows better consistency by the higher volume of attempts with similar completion percentage and higher yards/touchdowns.  It's hard to say which is "better".

Your signature will be publicly displayed at the end of your comments.

HS
BornAndBredABuckeye's picture

In my opinion at the end of the day it should be between Haskins and Murray. For Haskins vs Murray, Haskins has faced better defenses all year and this team could have lost another game or two if it wasn't for him. Tua may be a really good qb but he hasn't had the year the other two have. Granted, Bama whooping on people could very well be the reason for that. I wish the media wouldn't push their agenda on everything. They make it sound like Tua should have received the trophy weeks ago.

HS

"Ohio State officially launched its Heisman Trophy campaign for Haskins this past weekend"

I am the only one who thinks OSU dropped the ball on marketing Haskins? OSU should have started this back in September. Unfortunately the Tua narrative was already entrenched by even October so Haskins has a huge mountain to climb.

In the poll era (since 1936), OSU is by far the class of the B1G:
National Titles: OSU 8, UM 3
B1G Titles: OSU 34, UM 27
Head-to-head: OSU 43, UM 36
Major Bowls (New Year's Six): OSU 20-14, UM 10-16

The coaching staff let him down most of the season. He is the best quarterback in Ohio State/Big Ten history, and won’t get to play for a title, due to the coaching staff’s failure to prepare the team to play an inferior Purdue team.  He (they) was/were robbed.

HS
Tresselball4life's picture

By far the best Ohio State QB behind Craig Krenzel, Troy Smith, Todd Boekman and Terrel Pryor.

HS
ScarletGray43157's picture

Craig Krenzel, Troy Smith, Todd Boekman and Terrel Pryor

All excellent college QBs.

Haskins has pro QB skills that none of the above ever had.

If Haskins stays healthy, he could be in Canton once he is done.  He really is that good.  Time will tell, I understand.  A passer like that is rare though, and is the best one I have ever seen at Ohio State. (I am 59 years old, and my earliest memories are of Rex Kern).

In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...

HS
RBloodworth's picture

How could you forget Justin Zwick?

Seriously;  the only QB from that list who compares to Dwayne is Troy (although TP has them all beat as a runner).  Nice attempt at trolling, though.

HS
Tresselball4life's picture

Those QBs I listed all brought Ohio State a championship game.  Only one that did not was Pryor but he was a gifted athlete which puts him in my top of the list.  I guess everyone has a different opinion.

HS
Johnny Amerikos's picture

With all due respect, I remember 2007 differently. Seemed like it was more other teams losing that brought us to the championship game. You don't think? I only had 4 vodkas tonight, I can still carry a conversation. No offense to Todd, just seems like a disservice to Dwayne.

HS
RBloodworth's picture

Yes, everyone has an opinion.  Your apparent opinion that every single QB to play under Jim Tressel was better than any QB to play under Urban Meyer is so laughable that it has to be schtick.  No offense meant.

HS
faux_maestro's picture

He forgot Steve Belisari and Scott McMullen LOL (though I will go to my grave believing that we go to the BCS championship in 2003 if Tressel stuck with McMullen vs. TSUN).

Pleased to see that Mr. Haskins recognizes the effort and respect "Coach" has for him.  Really going to miss more than just his arm next year...I think he would have been a great Buckeye leader.

HS
old grizzled veteran's picture

If ever there was a player who deserved the Heisman, it's #7 !!  Quite an honor and recognition for him, especially given that the two other fiinalists are playing for teams in final four playoffs.  Dwayne carried the Buckeyes this season...we had no run game, we had no consistent, shut down defense....without his arm, offensive line help and some good receivers the Buckeyes would have lost more.

Congratulations, Dwane, and thank you for a spectacular year...AND, thank you for playing with your team in the Rose Bowl !!!

HS
Brandon26841's picture

Absolutely deserved. It's a shame it's such a stacked class this year with those other two having monster seasons as well.

HS
Dillon G's picture

The good part is ESPN does not control the Downtown Athletic Club. There is not an inherit bias for the SEC. The problem is jackasses like Herbie get to vote. And a jackass here in StL, who was talking about 2, and you know not whom.

I am comfortable with it being a straight vote. I am comfortable with the near sighted fools who will vote for Tagovailoa. Even though I think he is well behind Haskins and Murray. Being objective, Murray, like Haskins deserves to be considered. Both carried the teams. Alabama would still be 13-0 with Hurts, and their shitty schedule.

If it were my draft pick, Haskins, and it isn't close.

Congrats to him .

Noted the winner should be Haskins or Murray. The winner will be Tua purely because the southern voters will leave Haskins and Murray off their ballots. They did it twice to the Stanford running backs both times it went to the Alabama player. This needs to stop in the Heisman and more importantly in the cfp committee room

HS
milhouse4588's picture

Glad he got invited. He earned it.

Winner is definitely going to be Murray after the way he's played all season and Tua sucked it up against UGA (while hurt).

Haskins would win it in literally any other season but Murray's numbers are just as absurd.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

HS
tcm1968's picture

Selfishly maybe he goes up there and finishes 2nd or 3rd but returns with a little Heisman fever and that helps bring him back for another year..

Either way deserved...

Go Bucks!

That's the way this season has gone. Any other year, a 12-1 B1G champion is in the playoff and its QB with those video game numbers easily walks away with the Heisman. Unfortunately, neither of those things are happening.

HS

He should win it. Murray's an excellent player, but if Haskins played in the Big 12, he'd have 6,000 yards and 65 TDs.

He should win it, but he won't because the media and the voters want Kyle to win it bc of his ability to run. BS, matter of fact total BS! But that's how it's gonna go.
I wish Dwayne would come back for another year (selfishly of course) just to throw for 5000 yards and beat Oregon's Qb in NY next year. Still a fantastic year, Heisman or not. I'm going to miss the Dwayne train next year.

HS
Cptnvideo's picture

On the stat sheet, the only stat Tua won was interceptions.  And if you do interceptions per attempt, DH is close to him.  Plus with Tua's far fewer attempts, the interceptions SHOULD be very low - fewer attempts equates to throwing far less times into tight windows and more often to wide open receivers.

Taking into account the "eye test", DH should win.  Good points by several posters concerning DH's passing was against much better defenses than the other 2 QBs.

My favorite team? Whoever is playing TTUN.

HS
armynurseboy's picture

As much as Dwayne deserves that trophy, he's not going to win it.  The Heisman is as political as it gets and is more a popularity contest than about who actually performed better.  Dwayne joined the race way too late to get his brand more attention.  Kyler is the darling of the moment and my guess is he will take it.

HS
rkylet83's picture

It would be nice to see him win but he certainly won’t.  He’s by far the best and most important player to his team in college football.  Best numbers of the 3.  Arguably the best season of any position in Ohio State history.

HS

Well deserved honor for both him and the university.

HS
Johnny_fing_utah's picture

Based on the eye test and other relevant factors, Tua wins, Jake from State Farm is second, Joe Burrow is 3rd, Miss St QB is 4th, Kyler Murray is 5th and poor Haskins falls to 6th.  Again mainly due to other relevant factors.

HS

If Kyler is just gonna go play baseball maybe we could just get him a “Heisman” ball cap and Haskins can get the trophy!

HS
buckeyedownunder's picture

Best of luck!  He earned this honor.  I am hopeful that he plays in the Rose Bowl.  With 420 more yards and 3 TDs, he will top 5000 yards and top 50 TD passes.  Only a couple other guys have done that double.  When you also consider his 6 to 1 TD to interception ratio, his completion percentage over 70%, and his QB rating over 175, it will put him in the conversation for one of the best statistical years ever by an NCAA QB. It would be nice to see his name near the top of those all time charts. He also put up those stats against better defenses than the others faced. He made mincemeat of the #1 ranked pass defense in the country. Would love to see him play one more year, but he has probably played his way into a top 10 pick.  It was a pleasure to see him spin it this year.

Watching fairly closely since I was 7 - he is the best QB we have had. We were never out of a game and never would be out of a game with him at QB (he did have some great receivers too). Too bad he will be one and done but who can blame him. Good luck. It's been a great season.

I should add - I'm 68 so I've been watching for a lot of years. The only other one I can think of is Kern.

Everyone knows Murray is gonna win it, sad thing is no one will take into consideration the 6,000 yards passing Haskins would have had if he played in the back yard football conference.

I do not at all have the mind of a bully... in my mind bullies are intolerant of contrary opinion, domineering and rather cowardly.

This is a ceremony jabrill peppers was invited to, with one career interception. It’s a joke

Rashod Gary and Jabrill Peppers are the exact same players, good but not great.

Well deserved. He should win the Heisman and hope he does.

Congratulations to Dwayne Haskins, great job hope you win it. I have to laugh now because there were a few people who thought Joe Burrow was better, not the case. No disrespect to Joe, but he's no Dwayne. Urban picked the right q.b..

I thought Haskins would be great and he ended up being way, way better than that. Two of those TD throws against NU were almost unfair.

What a great honor for Dwayne Haskins to be in NY and in the Heisman hunt!  I believe Kyler Murray will win because he has been terrific all season long and has had a huge advantage in the PR game.  Dwayne, with no disrespect intended, is just now starting to blossom and find himself as a QB.  Dwayne has been spectacular in this last month and if ballots had been held until the end may just have pulled it off.

Best wishes to all of these young men, who by all accounts are terrific off-the-field too..

60 to 1 odds he has literally 0 percent chance

I would bet the house on Tua since Murray is now the favorite and Tua will probably win it.

Well, at least Dwayne gets a fighting chance. Shattering all of the records at Ohio State and in the B1G in one season should mean something, as well as carrying the entire team on his back for a 12-1 season

So proud that Dwayne Haskins represented Ohio State football. Enjoy the week of accolades and appreciation - you totally deserve it!

It's great that Dwayne Haskins is getting some Heisman recognition.  But is the media promotion by the OSU AD too little too late?

Is it like OSU and the CFP?  The Buckeyes had a marvelous year and came on late, but maybe other colleges "appear" better sooner?

And so Haskins had a fantastic season that blossomed late, while Kyle Murphy and Tua Tagovailoa stole the show earlier?

Murray put up his numbers in a conference that does not play defense. Haskins did it against everyone including the number 1 defense in the country without the aid of a consistent running game. They all are worthy but Haskins is better.

Well this is ironic. This same board was speaking down about Haskins just 4 weeks ago. Now some of you are hailing him as the guy who should win in a landslide. SMH. Fickle fan base

They won’t give it to a guy that’s not in the playoffs. He deserves every ounce of that trophy.

By any objective standard, Haskins runs away with this award, not the least of which is that he dominated in a conference where they still play defense.

First time since Troy that i was so exited to see our QB play week after week ... He saved our season !!! He clearly deserves to win but i don t think he has had enough media coverage if we compare with Tua and Tyler .

Just sad cause i think he will play his last game with Urban in the Rose Bowl ... I cross my fingers he will stay and make life easier for Day .

GO BUCKS CRUSH HUSKIES !!!

While I will root for Haskins winning it, but I think all 3 have a solid case.  I think any of the 3, dropped into one of the previous seasons would win the award most seasons.  Since 2000, 15 QBs have won and I think only Mayfield, Mariota, and Bradford that have stats that are comparable, and not really better.  Will Grier could have won it some of those years, but won't get an invite this year.
