I'm glad Waters got the job, I know the School of Music was trying to throw their weight around and pick one of "their guys" as opposed to a "marching band guy." Thankyfully that got sidestepped...

I LOVE that Coach Meyer contacted Waters to talk about the tradition of the band and their part in gameday. I love that he seems to truly understand and appreciate the tradition here.

who isn't happy now?

i'm still not pleased with buford's performance on the season. more than anything else it's buford's inconsistancies that have led to the inconsistancies of the team. considering his role as one of our featured players and the only starter above sophomore rank, it's not unfair to expect him to step up, be a leader and take charge of the team, and part of that is shouldering the blame when your own poor performance leads to a loss.

also, last time i checked, being a good person is completely irrelevent to whether he deserves criticism as a member of our basketball team.

I booed Gene Smith and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. He's tried to sell i-dots in Script Ohio,  and he's threatening to make the marching band pay to have St. John Arena open for Skull Sessions. According to the Lantern, student ticket prices are among the very highest in the nation at $35/game, even compared to other football-crazy schools, which sell student tickets at less than $10/game (Alabama, for instance, only charges $5). Students are squeezed out of better seats at basketball games in favor of the rich and tenured. The athletic department may be doing well financially, but it's because profit is being squeezed out of every tradition we have and every student who wants to come to the games.

Not to mention he couldn't have handled the tattoos/Tressel/DiGeronimo issues any worse.

Fuck Gene Smith.

i couldn't even finish reading through that piece of trash. i expected heavily distorted facts, but i didn't expect a basic grasp of the English language to be completely missing... after all the spelling, punctuation and syntax errors, i think what did me in was him referring to the "MGO BLOG, a Michigan Football publication" so shortly after misspelling Urban Meyer's name several times in a row. seriously, i wrote better than that in middle school.

great piece. credit where credit is due--the synchro team also won the championship in 2010 and 2011. we're even AWESOMER than what you thought!

It's funny that Aston Villa failed to even play a chld's version of the game of soccer, because I consistently feel that the Cleveland Browns fail to even play a child's version of the game of football. Fun fact: Randy Lerner owns both teams.

I don't believe they compete division by division. I believe that since it's not an NCAA-sanctioned sport, they can and do throw all the schools together to vie for one title. I've looked for confirmation on that and can't find any one way or the other, but I'm confident they compete for titles against more than just two other schools.

How about some love for the synchronized swimming team? They've won a ridiculous TWENTY-SIX national championships in the thirty-five years the event has been held, and they're going for #27 next week. "What's your record?" "Twenty-six and nine." "That's a good season!" "No, that's championships. Still pissed we didn't win it all those nine times."
