So this basically answers nothing... every position with a battle for the starting spot has not been resolved in time for the opener..  and Michael Bennet has not solidified his starting spot?  Did someone tell the AP All-American watch list??

I know it's a home game, but went with Cincy here... Seven though Minnesota is an improving team, Cincy is the "trap" game, since it is the week after our huge home opening night game vs Va Tech.. Human/college kid nature will be present in a slow start, and say what u want, but Tommy Tuberville is a good coach and will have that team ready to play...

Guess I completely missed when Bogard switched over to LB.. He was recruited as a corner right?

Interesting how the tradition of unheralded LBs becoming leaders/starters (Rolle, Laurinitis, Homan) seems to continue under Urban..

Yea my bad, I didn't mean to reference Apple as a true freshman, I was just assuming he would get time at nickel if reeves and grant are the starting CBs..  He did seem to have a knack for the ball, I think it's his size that I'm down on, he looked small to me, and the nickel back needs to be able make tackles on running plays out of spread offenses...

no idea on Worley...

The safety position seems solid, with Burrows to back up Bell and Powell, but the corners seem thin... I'm sure the freshman are good, but makes me nervous to see a true freshman inserted into a corner position..  After watching the spring game, for some reason I was left with the impression Apple could use another year before stepping into a starting role, especially the nickel..

Yea I forget the name of the guy who posted the Buckeye club code last year... I remember thanking him in the forum post but looks like it only lists your comment history for  11W stories now... Plus I still owe the guy a couple of beers...

Any chance you wouldn't mind passing along that code for the Tuesday pre-sale of single game tickets?

won't be any re-selling here, with the plane tickets and hotel, buying tickets at face helps keep my annual fall Columbus trip at a decent expense total..

I couldn't agree more... If you have to choose, to travel for a game, are you going to choose the national championship or a semi-final game??

Sometimes I think college football decision makers intentionally ignore common sense as part of some kind of social experiment...  I was really shocked that they decided against the higher seeded school hosting the semi-final matchup...

I'm not sure why is such a decision? Does anyone think any team would draft him as a QB right now?   So unless he's OK with transitioning to RB, he's staying...

Don't get me wrong, I love Braxton, want him back for next season, but hes not a pro QB...

Before today I probably would have voted for Wilson, but I say Elliot now... Very impressive game today, He looks like he has the talent to be an every down back.. Power, agility, speed, hands, and blocking, this guy may be our next great tailback..

Its obvious TTUN is our rival, and our primary rival, and the best rivalry in college football, but Penn State is certainly our secondary rival, especially for us alums here in the north east...

We need to keep the EMU matchup every year, u need one preseason game (even if it is not opening week).  NIU is a quality MAC school, and Va Tech is the big OOC so all good there...  Hawaii is the disappointing game...

With the playoff in place, I was hoping we would move away from the previous formula of one big OOC and three MAC or lower conf schools, and add an additional (mid to lower level) power conference opponent such as Arizona or Wake Forest etc...  Understand that would most likely mean giving up a home game every other year, but rotate it opposite the big ooc home and home series...

overall just a little disappointing...

Thank you for this...

Also, everyone keeps talking about how we are "scheduling differently now that the playoff is around", and that seems completely inaccurate...   Seems to be the same basic formula, one big OOC matchup against a top 25 team, one MAC team and two other fillers...

Correct me if I am wrong, but I am not seeing anything different...

This may be the best poll question ever posted on this site...

In a pretty much win/win situation, I went with Hawk, simply because imo he is the greatest Ohio State LB of all time so I don't think its ever bad to add that to your team...

Thinking about it more though, against an offense like Northwestern's I should have voted for Laurinaitis... his versatility would be huge against NW, given how great he was at not only stopping the run/being a sure tackler, but also dropping into coverage on passing downs and his knack for grabbing interceptions... I'm surprised he isn't getting more votes here...

Interesting perspective...  I generally believe and follow the same, that section majority rules...

However certain times should be noted as exceptions, 3rd/4th downs for the opponent or important drives, where standing needs to be tolerated...  Also, someone also pointed out in the comments above, night games should be understood to be different... if you are attending a night game, it should be understood you will be standing significantly more than usual...

As a side note, I also thought the atmosphere vs. Nebraska last year was better, but maybe thats cause last year I was sitting closer to the students in 4A...

Yea I'm starting to get that same feeling, that the injury is more significant that anyone is admitting...  I'm thinking it may be best to rest him for Cal and Fla A&M...

Comment 05 Sep 2013

I agree, to a certain extent... I like the alternate uniforms once a year, however I think it should always be a home game, and not always Michigan...  Of the last 4 years I think we have worn regular jerseys against Michigan once?

Still my favorite game recap column on this site...

Glad you brought up the defense playing well as everyone (even on ESPN) kept talking about our defense needing to get better... While of course I agree it does need to get better, but I came away from the game thinking they played very well... Bottom line they only gave up 2 TDs, and they did great on 3rd downs...

I am more concerned about the offense going to sleep for a quarter at a time (as they did a lot last season) than the defense at the point..

Also thought Joey Bosa stood out by far as the most impressive freshman...

Comment 02 Sep 2013

Yea I noticed the same thing with Decker.. Mack is an exception, but he was beaten numerous times by the other DE, and yeah it was a simple speed rush...  Thankfully he has 3 more games before he will face any real talented DEs...

Ross help me understand something... in this quarter-quarter-half zone, this basically leaves the flat on the wide or "field" side open for the offense?

Understand the zone will rolll that way, but it seems we struggled to make open field tackles against short screen passes (Cal/Purdue games)... isn't this formation begging for the offense to throw a quick screen pass to that side?

You mention that this is primarily against 21 personnel, so is that just a risk the defense is willing to take against non spread offenses, which may not excel at throwing quick screens?

Interesting... with Bryant known for being a big hitter, I always thought he would be better served at the SS spot, especially in support of stopping the run, which would also lead me to believe he could fit in the Star role easily...  Guess I think big hitter and automatically think bigger/stronger player, which is wrong...
