I think the reason why they are hesitant to allow instant eligibility is for fear of creating a free agency market for athletes to just begin transferring to the best school to try and win...  I'm sure there will be some cases of this, but I think they are grossly over exaggerating the likely instances.

No need to change the rules, all the NCAA needs to do here is become more lax on granting an eligibility exception.  Review each case and if they determine the primary reason is to win/lack of playing time, then don't grant the exception, any other reason, to be closer to family, home, not happy at school,  they should grant the exception...

What a great story, and great recognition for Grant..  I feel awful for often criticizing him for bad plays throughout his career, and calling for his benching on more than one occasion (even calling him a bust)...  I immediately noticed his play during the Alabama game (he was the only guy on our defense who could take down #27 alone), and even  mentioned it to friends towards the end of the game, how he finally came through in a big game.  Not only that, but after all the bad, I'll now remember him as being a key player in one the biggest wins in our programs history, as I know we will all continue to mention the Alabama game for years to come.

What a testament to determination..  Thanks for making me eat my words Curtis...

Kind of shocked they chose to wear those grass green uni's in the rose bowl, and not save them in case they ended up in the NC...  I assume they are wearing white now though so they can sell both color jerseys for both teams...

Looking at the Market Center hotels in Dallas, apparently the team is staying in that area.  Spoke with some friends who are familiar with the area, they recommended staying in Dallas as opposed to Arlington if you are going to be there more than one night...

Obviously disappointing to see him go, but surprising (and awesome) to see he will remain with us for the playoff!

If there is one thing Urban does well, it's recognize coaching talent, so we should have faith he will make a good hire to replace Tom.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for this, but its a post from yesterday so hopefully most won't see it...lol    These videos are becoming repetitive, same "epic" music track, same cheesy slogans, I think even the same Urban quotes every week...  I am not knocking the effort, the production value is amazing and its great work, but just a recommendation that maybe for next season, lets put some extra thought into the creative process and try to think outside the box...

Poor Curtis Grant, you can see he's trying hard out there, however he repeatedly fell for that same play action over and over, it became very frutrating watching it... The couple plays I saw Raekwon I was impressed, he does need to be rotated in on a regular basis..

This defense has talent, and huge playmaking ability, Bosa, Bell and specially Lee who is outstanding all game.. however they do not play well as a cohesive unit..

I think we may be looking at 8-4 this season..

Edit : by the way , the Go route was the right call in my opinion, first quarter the safeties were basically LBs, second quarter they only kept 1 high, in what seemed to be a cover 3..  They kept daring us to throw it out there.. Too bad we couldn't get a couple more to connect...

So this basically answers nothing... every position with a battle for the starting spot has not been resolved in time for the opener..  and Michael Bennet has not solidified his starting spot?  Did someone tell the AP All-American watch list??

Guess I completely missed when Bogard switched over to LB.. He was recruited as a corner right?

Interesting how the tradition of unheralded LBs becoming leaders/starters (Rolle, Laurinitis, Homan) seems to continue under Urban..

Yea my bad, I didn't mean to reference Apple as a true freshman, I was just assuming he would get time at nickel if reeves and grant are the starting CBs..  He did seem to have a knack for the ball, I think it's his size that I'm down on, he looked small to me, and the nickel back needs to be able make tackles on running plays out of spread offenses...

no idea on Worley...

Comment 22 Jul 2014

The safety position seems solid, with Burrows to back up Bell and Powell, but the corners seem thin... I'm sure the freshman are good, but makes me nervous to see a true freshman inserted into a corner position..  After watching the spring game, for some reason I was left with the impression Apple could use another year before stepping into a starting role, especially the nickel..

Yea I forget the name of the guy who posted the Buckeye club code last year... I remember thanking him in the forum post but looks like it only lists your comment history for  11W stories now... Plus I still owe the guy a couple of beers...

Any chance you wouldn't mind passing along that code for the Tuesday pre-sale of single game tickets?

won't be any re-selling here, with the plane tickets and hotel, buying tickets at face helps keep my annual fall Columbus trip at a decent expense total..

I always liked how the south stands weren't attached, kind of like they were built as a blockade to prevent opponents from running away out the open end of the Horseshoe.. When looking south from inside the stadium I felt it was instantly recognizable as Ohio Stadium, being one of the mega stadiums that doesn't have continuous seating all around... we appear to be losing that with these new seats...

yea I agree the only way he could would be to start pulling apart the ACC, to the point of financial hurt,  kind of forcing their hand,  because we all know UNC isn't going to the SEC or BIG XII....lol

Comment 19 Feb 2013

I would like to be excited about this, adding two top quality academic institutions in UNC and UVA, I just don't see it happening...

Virginia maybe, but I don't think UNC has any desire at all to leave the ACC...

Honestly the names are ridiculous but of little importance to me... whats most important, and what I wrote in the open ended question, is starting from scratch on the division alignment, and putting Ohio State and Michigan in the same division.

1. You can't prognosticate competitive balance anyway, why even try.

2. Having them possibly play twice, back to back weeks, decreases the significance of the rivalry.  You should only get one shot at winning that game every season.

3. Go ahead and re-name the conference or divisions after whatever cable company offers the highest bid, this is inevitable anyway, and will make up for the lost revenue of a possible second Ohio State Michigan game.

I'm disappointed that there are 3 games on aircraft carriers tonight/this weekend...  I feel like it undermines the significance, they should have left it at one official "Carrier Classic" each year...

EDIT:  Kudos to Mark Hollis for making this happen though

It's not exactly a secret that Delany runs this conference like a 100 year old corporation, not only defending market share but ever expanding it...

what I'm not clear on is are you actually happy about this?  or are you simply pointing it out?

Despite the fact that he may have bigger things on his mind, the smaller factions are gathering and aligning themselves (SEC/Big-XII), and they are CHANGING THE RULES by which we play...

granted it is college sports, and I will always watch my school regardless of what bowl or playoff or whatever, which is good enough for the B1G to not only survive, but thrive financially....  however Delany can't simply ignore this postseason change movement thinking we are above it...  Blockbuster/Netflix anyone???

I was with you on the first paragraph, but not the second...

I don't think Buford would thrive with a lineup change, by driving more or shooting, hes just not that caliber player to be a primary scorer, regardless of who is guarding him or whatever position he is playing...  granted, he can get hot, and have great games.... he reminds me of John Starks, some nights he was on fire, and some nights he was 3-15... just gotta live with it...
