Alabama, because they have a pro style offence and are really balanced.
WOW! I can't believe how many people think this thing isn't over LOL. REALLY? The sanctions were obviously discussed with the ncaa (who were involved in the investigation BY OSU) and are equal to the infraction, even a little heavy. We're not getting special treatment. If anything they were hard on themselves.
What JT did was honorable and "the right thing to do". Last I checked a Federal investigation (along with it's confidentiality) takes prescience over the ncaa tyrannical rules. I can't see the ncaa taking any other sanctions on JT or the program; with the exception of adding a game to the suspension(even though UCONN's coach was only given a three game suspension for the same violation and they play a heck of allot more games). Especially since the investigation by OSU on JT was done BEFORE the ncaa found out he may have known earlier than expected. So OSU IS promoting the atmosphere of compliance. JT might have made an error in favor of caution in the face of Fed. Investigation, so the sanctions will go against him not the program. No probation No loss of scholarships No down years. If anything I think it helps in recruiting. Parents (who usually have some influence on where their children go) just saw JT choose the well being of his players over some stupid ncaa rule. and the rule is stupid.
LOL...%uck them....as far as they're concerned we're just a glorified mac team anyway! The players will band together in an US vs. the world attitude, and ruin their year when we go undefeated and win the NC. MORE TRESSEL, MORE SILVER BULLET D, MORE SMITH
relax Tressel's not going anywhere. lets see what this SOURCE is. If it turns out to be true it will be a short suspension for JT, 2 maybe 3 games confrence play. we'll probably score 50 a game with him not calling the plays and running out the clock in the second possesion of the third qrt.
I agree they don't "have to" lose, and being a good Buckeye Nation man I don't want them to. Nor would I want them to think they need to lose, they're competitors. I know its cliche but as long as the focus is on just 1 win(the game they're playing) how many they win without a loss shouldn't make a difference.
That being said they probably will lose so its a mute point. The Big Ten has too many good teams and scout extremely well. Still I would love to see that happen, what a ride that would be! I would worry about the added pressure though. Three frosh. in key roles(as good as they are) this isn't high school, a nation will be watching ...dissecting...smothering...nit picking...comparing and some will be circling like SHARKS for the kill if they lose in the NCAA tourney. Matta would really have to reel them all in real close to keep focused and not get swept up in all the media attention it would cause.
Hall coming back will help with that. He has the talent for LT. Norwell, Mewhort and Lindsey have all seen playing time.. more than Bauserman or Guiton. I see no reason for them not to step up to the challenge. Is it a concern, yeah! But the coaching staff knew the guards would be gone this year they'll have them ready. Still think Bauserman will get most of the snaps ( mostly safe throws and hand offs) with packages for Guiton and or Miller. I HOPE your right though! I would prefer to see Guiton just win the starting job...for the 5 games that is. **maybe 4.. I like what I've seen of him and it will probably be his only chance. Because Miller WILL be the starter come 2012.
As for Smith being ready, I believe so. Sounds like he's another great one, but Wow what a loaded backfield! Wisconsin used 3 backs successfully, Clay, Ball and White why can't we? Especially in the first 5 games.(**4 after the appeal) First 5- Smith, Berry and Hyde ..after.. "unfortunately" Boom, Smith and Berry...sorry Hall odd man out.
First 5-0 would not be a freakish start to the season. After the sacrificial lambs (Akron 1-11 and Toledo) Miami has the talent but a new coach and staff could be in our favor. Not a surprise if we win. Colorado another new coach, with mediocre talent, a win. Then Mich. State, Dantonio, replacing 11 starters and they don't have the same depth as OSU, a new qb, stud lb and star wr among them and Dantonio has not seemed to be able to beat his mentor. Would be a BIG win yes, but not a shocker.**when the suspensions are lowered to 4 games it becomes a should win.
The players filling in KNOW its their shot to shine. They will be prepared and be playing like starters, just like if the five went to the pro's. They all also know(except for Smith, Berry and Hyde) that they will lose playing time when the 5 come back but all expect to still get on the field as usual, except Bauserman/ Guiton /Miller who will DEFINITELY be on the sidelines the rest of the season.*barring injury duh
Great minds think alike!
I agree about Bauserman....but with a twist... I think the Vest will have some packages with Miller or Guiton ready to come in and make the D's off balance. Bauserman will get the majority of snaps but Tress will use one if not both of the other guys. How much..will be decided in the production in spring practices.
This is a great deal for Cardale and the Bucks. Especially if he red shirts in 2012, that would put 2 years between him and Miller. More than enough time for Tress to work on his mechanics, confidence(not that he doesn't have any) just learning the college game and offense. I really like his potential, had great stats in hs.
LOL ...BANG! Guiton's better but Tress will play Baderman while TP;s suspended. Just like he plays Boom instead of Berry or Hyde or Hall or Smith or ....well you get the picture. Tress plays the upper classmen....not who is better. Unless the upper classmen really suck, which Boom doesn't and Baderman might not. I'm not in practice every day. He's sucked in the time I've seen him though.
I am new to this site, but I am already a huge fan! One it doesn't cost $100 a year, two the fans are allowed to express themselves more openly. Three the blogs are original and insightful. I know I have found a home for my Buckeye information and discussion. I will show this by visiting their advertisers.
Sorry, but you guys have lost your luster. I will always love kicking your butts but we've broken you. You're not a top team anymore, nor will you be anytime soon. When Tress stopped the pipeline of OHIO talent going your way( which is the only reason you guys where any good) He stopped any chance of you to be half the team you where in the past. Your a 3rd or 4th run team from now to eternity! Where you always belonged.
Don't take their crap! Let them know buttucky is the like a school for the mentally impaired! Or for the inbred impaired whichever! That includes basketball! They cant touch OSU this year....maybe they can breed somthing in a decade or so.
LOL ....aint that the truth!
OH! I like you! I am lucky enough to live in the great state of Ohio, but I have family in the south and when I visit they try to hide me from the locals. They know I will speak my mind about the SEC and how over rated they are. They have even offered me money to shut up. What happened to them? Is their somthing in the water down there that makes you loose all intelligent thought?Screw the SEC and thier unknowledgeable fans. We were winning championships before they knew how to flush their turds!
I am a draftnick. I read a lot of projections for players. All i have read on TP says he will be drafted as a QB. All also say he needs to play another year. Depending on his progression will decide what round, but clearly it will be in the first 3. That being said, draft reports have often been wrong. So I add in my personal opinion. I also think he will be drafted as a QB.
Unfortunatly...or ...fortunatly Tress won early with a conservative game plan in 2002. Now, he doesnt deviate. We play not to loose. The SEC teams play to win. Untill Tress sees he needs to "let the dogs out" during bowl games we'll have a tough time showing our true talent.
We gave them 2 td's from turnovers. You cant turn the ball over and win. OSU actully outplayed LSU that game, just too many mistakes.
Well the SEC has been the best conference over the last several years. Not by as much as they and some supposedly knowledgeable sports analysis think. The SEC rarely leaves the comfort of the south east.....that includes for bowl games. Must be nice to have home or almost home bowl games every year. If any of the top schools from the SEC had to play a big ten schedule they would end up with 2 to 3 losses every year. Why pratell? Because they are not built for the often harsh big ten weather or the pounding they would receive every week.. Think they'll win at the big house in late November? or Happy Valley? I think not. Still Any big ten club would also lose 2 to 3 in the SEC. We are not built for the speed and wide open offenses week in week out. The gap is closing and will turn to the big ten soon enough.
Good blog. Ark. has had a great year. I do agree that Tress has to let TP run more than he has. I've been saying that all year. I know both Tress and TP want him to get better as a pocket passer and i believe he has( and he was not 100% for awhile). Now they need to let him loose more. If Ark. is worried about a running QB,(like Newton) then lets make them worry, and bring up a safety or a spy to watch him. Then the passing lanes will open up even more with their questionable secondary. I really think the key player will be Stoneburner. He has been hurt and not totally in the flow of the offense this year. He will be the target Ark. wont be looking for. I see him splitting the seams for key gains.
Our secondary has been depleted also does anyone know if some of the walking wounded are truly healthy for the bowl?
I was mostly joking, a takeoff of on the movie Stripes. I am totally serious that we could win without the 5. I don't take Ark. lightly just know they aren't world beaters either. Look at Iowa losing those players and still beating a good Missouri team. Bowl games are always up in the air. Who comes in more focused and with a good game plan usually wins. I truly believe our D will rattle Mallet enough that turnovers will play a big part in who wins.
They are coming back because they will improve their draft status. If they did enter next years draft TP would be drafted as a QB a 2nd to 3rd round project QB but a QB (ala tebow). Adams would be a solid 2nd round pick, tackles with his potential usually are. Posey would go in the 3rd or 4th round. Some draft boards already had him leaving early and had him as high as rnd 2. A subpar season might drop him to 3rd or 4th rounds. Heron would be an undrafted free agent. He's only starting for the Bucks because he's an upper classmen. The talent behind him is way better.
