Two scores and 10 years from this day — Oct. 9, 2015 — the Best Damn Band in the Land trotted out a new tune for the Ohio Stadium masses during the halftime of the Illinois game.

The McCoys' "Hang on Sloopy" had topped the charts the week prior when an Ohio State percussion student, John Tatgenhorst, heard the catchy tune at the fair. Tatgenhorst liked the tune enough that he approached then-band director Charlie Spohn about incorporating rock-and-roll into the band's catalogue.

He had no idea the song would become iconic to not only Ohio State fans, but the entire state of Ohio.

It's no surprise, but Ohio State won that game against Illinois, 28-14.
