According to USA Today, South Carolina raised $98,619,479 last year. It spent $95,762,786.

It now wants its fans to help out with some of the costs of financing student-athletes in 2015.

From Joe Kinsey of BustedCoverage.com:

In a letter emailed from Dodie Anderson, a booster who helped pay for a $13 million, 40,500 sq. ft. “academic center” for South Carolina athletes, donors like @FishTaco_SC are being asked if they could spare at least $500 to cover books for an athlete – for one semester.

If you’re feeling extra nice, the athletic department will take $1,000 to pay for extra meals and additional supplements. And if you’re feeling like going for the total package, you can pay for an athlete to go to school for a semester. That would be nice of you considering the school spent $31,918,772 on coaches during the 2012-13 school year.

Seems like a good plan. Let's see how it plays out.
