Amidst a day of fairly blah college football news, the highlight was seeing images of various Buckeyes receiving their letter jackets. And since it appears Punxsutawney Phil needs stabbed, they arrived not a moment too soon.

Ezekiel Elliott, Joey Bosa and OSU volleyballer Kyle Randall look pumped to don the new gloss, as do super-sub Patrick Elflein, Jacoby Boren and Tyvis Powell

Props to all the guys and gals who brought home the leather.

DRIVE SLOW, HOMIE. In a move that raised the eyebrows of many across the college football landscape, the NCAA Football Rules Committee announced a proposed rule change that would prevent offenses from snapping the ball (unless they prefer a five-yard penalty) until the play clock bleeds under 30 seconds so that defenses can substitute players.

Interestingly, the committee features just two FBS head coaches, Todd Berry (ULM) and Troy Calhoun (Air Force) while the AFCA rep in attendance was none other than Bert Beliema. Respectively, or more like predictably, the trio ranked 84th, 106th and 118th in plays run in 2013. So far, reports TuscaLucifer promised each guy a leftover four-star in exchange for the change have yet to be confirmed.

To ensure the proposal reeked of NCAA chicanery, the committee leaned on the player-safety crutch though no conclusive medical data suggests the rule will curb injuries nor will the rule be in play over the final two minutes of a half. So, player-safety is paramount, except during a couple select minutes of the game. Got it.

Hugh Freeze is not amused. Neither is RichRod.

TAVER JOHNSON ON THE MOVE. Coachingsearch.com reported yesterday that former Ohio State cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson will leave the same assignment at Arkansas to join Darrell Hazell's staff at Purdue

The defection is the third from Beliema's defensive staff this offseason after the Buckeyes poached Chris Ash and Florida Atlantic hired defensive line assistant Charlie Partridge as their head coach. The move comes on the heels of Bert's hiring of old buddy Robb Smith to be his new defensive coordinator

Fun Fact: Johnson was briefly the interim head coach in Fayetteville after Bobby Petrino ran sled into some brush with his mistress / employee in tow and tried unsuccessfully to cover it up.

BAD HAIR DAY? Jayru Campbell, a 2015 Michigan State verbal commit ranked by Rivals as the third best recruit in the mitten state, was arraigned yesterday on charges of felonious assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and misdemeanor aggravated assault.

As a result, the Cass Tech quarterback is currently suspended from school and it's pretty clear the Wayne County Prosecutor wasn't impressed with Campbell's DDT of a school security guard after the dude had the audacity to ask him to remove his hood.
