TMac 22 Nov 2013, 6:26 am The "Show Cause" penalty is still in effect until Dec 2016, and while certainly not a bar to hiring Tress, why would a m*chig*an want to deal with that (Other than the obvious upgrade at HC) when there are so many other candidates who could be considered "m*ch*gan men"? As for the poll - all good choices except for fear! ONE Not Done! Scarlet_Lutefisk 22 Nov 2013, 9:05 am He would just have to sit out the first five games and anything post season (CG, bowl) the first year. He would be allowed to recruit during that period. While far from ideal that isn't the worst trade off ever. TMac 22 Nov 2013, 9:22 am Agreed that the penalty isn't any great obstacle, but if m*ch*gan wants be the elite program they have historically been then they should be attracting coaching candidates from everywhere except for the HCs at top tier programs across the entire country. If you're Illinois, you make that hire in a heartbeat, you give up 5 weeks with just assistant coaches for relevancy within 3 years. But I'm not sure that JT wants to coach again, he's got a pretty good gig at Akron. ONE Not Done! osuxrow07 22 Nov 2013, 10:52 am I actually would not at all mind to see Tress at Illinois. That would be a fantastic hire, show cause and all. Set the Earth Reverberating onetwentyeight 22 Nov 2013, 10:37 pm Honestly, though, what ARE their options? Hoke is obviously a fraud (AS I'VE BEEN SAYING HERE SINCE LAST SUMMER), but who replaces him? We forget that Michig@n has been "down" nationally for quite some time now. They don't have the clout to attract an Urban meyer or saban or Gruden anymore. As for 'michigan men', Harbaugh isn't leaving the NFL seeing as he was one win away from a Super bowl. Les Miles didn't leave LSU last time and Michigan has only become a worse job since then, so no reason he'd leave. Who else is left? Hes an ohio guy...born, bred and raised. There's also this...I seem to remember an interview with him where he said he wasn't one of those coaches who felt the need to coach until the day they die. He didn't see himself being in his 70s and still coaching. I believe he is content to be where he is...having an impact on young peoples lives without the stresses of running a football program. Look at the relationships he still holds with his former buckeyes. The man was at the end of his coaching rope at ohio state...I believe had tatgate not happened he would have retired at the end of his contract and moved into the athletic offices in a supervisory role. This isn't denial by the way...this is me basing it off of statements he made while still coaching at ohio state. And I still think that once the show cause is gone, he will come back and work in the athletic offices at ohio state. Thete has to be something behind him walking away and taking the full blame for tatgate. There has to be some kind of agreement between him and gene smith. My first year in college was JT's first at OSU so I'll always have a special place in my heart for the man-no one did more with less. Urban Meyer is an entirely different animal-a more progressive, advanced, ruthless animal. I love JT but I'll take Urban 100 out of 100 times. onetwentyeight 22 Nov 2013, 10:32 pm Well, considering we have the guy who handed Tressel the worst loss of his career, I'd say we have nothing to worry about. Patriot4098 23 Nov 2013, 4:21 am The thought alone makes me cringe. Nope, no, and more no. Its more than a cringe. I dont know what it is. However the thought did get me thinking. Where would The Vest coach next? I mean, if he had his suitors, what would be a good fit that wouldn't make me cringe as much? Any MAC team, probably. Because they are irrelevant, for the most part. Anything FCS, really. So, how about RELEVANT teams? Nothing in the SEC. Definitely nowhere in the SEC, because thats just more fuel to the SEC/ESPN fire. I figure he'd want to stick to his guns--The midwest. So B1G! That would help our conference exponentially, but only if he finds himself at a permanent home. Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota... I don't know, they are all stepping stone jobs for a coach with Tress' resume. So what BRAND name teams need a new coach? scUM and Nebraska. scUM is a 'hell no', but what about Nebraska?! That intrigues me. I've always had a healthy respect for Nebraska. Decent fan-base. Good traditions. Good program. If I was going to watch Tress take another coaching gig, I think I'd be OK with Nebraska. He'd KILL IT there, with a few years prep. That would leave the B1G with a well-coached PennState program, fresh off of sanctions; Sparty doing what Sparty does; Wisky doing what Wisky does(AND BETTER with Anderson now); AND Nebraska with a reinvigorated fan-base and a proven quality head coach, if they were to hire Tressel. That would be HUGE for the B1G! HUGE! And we'd still be on top, and scUM would remain putrid under Hoke. Sounds perfect. Maybe perfect. Im still not convinced that all these HORRIBLE scUM teams is good for us, or the rivalry, or the conference. "Evil shenanigans!" - Mac Jonnferrell 23 Nov 2013, 8:48 am I could live with Tressel at Nebraska. Not TTUN. This whole question reminds me of how much my wife despised Urban Meyer when he was at Florida. I remember telling her, "Be careful what you say--he may well be our next coach." She said, "Never!" She just loves UFM now. LOL. "I miss Brady Hoke."
