Which likely redshirt is the most surprising?

Mitchell.   lack of LB depth makes this a head scratcher.

I know there's a game Saturday, and my ass will be there.

Is there an APB out on Michael Thomas? Thought for sure he'd see some snaps today.

Urban has said he feels the WR depth is too good to waste a year of Thomas's eligibility

Sounds like he's next year's Curtis Grant, wide receiver edition.

Seems like that's the case with Thomas, Dunn and Marshall. We just have so many quality players that it would be a waste for them to lose a year of eligibility just to play a few meaningless snaps in garbage time. My guess for Mitchell is that he is still pretty raw and they don't want to use him unless absolutely necessary.

...and Michigan still sucks.

I hope Dunn doesn't get disappointed and end up transferring.

I think I am most surprised by Mitchell's redshirt, but I can understand it.  It will benefit him to get a year in the system and have a lot of eligibility if Shazier leaves early.
Isn't it kind of awesome to be able to redshirt guys who could very well start on other teams?

Yeah it seems like they know how good Mitchell can be but since he's pretty raw, they would rather not waste a year now and then have him overlap with Grant for only one year before taking over. It'll be interesting next year if McMillian comes to OSU, and how quickly he can pick up the defense

All but Dunn.

"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.

I think they're all very surprising to be honest.

  • I'm the least surprised about Marshall because we had a ton of depth at WR with him coming in.
  • I'm probably more surprised Juco Corey Smith is redshirting more than Marshall thought he was suppose to come in and provide depth.
  • I'm real surprised about Mitchell. Although I didn't jump on the bandwagon a lot of people did of him coming in and starting I did expect him to make big contributions on special teams being 6'4 230 and running a 4.39
  • Dunn and Thomas redshirting at the beginning of the year I would have laughed if someone said they were. Now taking a step back with Hall Hyde Brown Fields graduating next year I think it will give them another year to develop and give them a better opportunity to compete for a starting role.

Is Corey Smith redshirting as well?

With Mickey heading to OSU, Mike Mitchell redshirting will give him an extra year at OSU with his brother. They seem to be very close and would think that could be some incentive for Mike to take the extra year. It will be great for him to learn and be ready to go in 2014.

Mitchell is the most surprising, very excited to see what he can do when he does play, hopefully the next Laurinaitis on that side of the ball.

Mitchell because of the possible opportunities due to lack of depth at linebacker

Regarding Dunn... I'm not entirely sure he won't just transfer out. It seems he's been in Urban's doghouse from the beginning of this year and rumors of not being gung ho about playing on special teams. Even when Hall & Hyde leave we'd still have Rod Smith, Elliot, and Dunn who are still ahead of Dunn plus Wilson getting touches from that hybrid position.

How much longer before we call Thomas this generation's Bam Childress (because really, if it wasn't for that huge 2012 spring game would anyone really know he was and keep mentioning him?)

Wow!  Forgot all about Bam Childress....

I thought Mitchell would come in and be the next Kat or Hawk because the depth at linebacker and his SPARQ scores. He seemed like a freak, but I guess it's a mind game also not just physical. Also do you think this will sway McMillan from coming if Shazier stays?

Just thought Jalin's skill set would have seen the field byt now...
