I don't worry about it because I am actually at Roosters enjoying their wings and a tall foamy pop.
What's with the hate for Roosters??? I love me some Cane's but Roosters is a fun, casual joint... what's not to love????
Carryover from the Skull Session would be my guess.
Good to know your fans aren't letting you down, I guess. (BTW, thanks for your service, and for calling a spade a spade.)
More of a frickers fan myself
Still not giving a damn for the whole state of Michigan.
Best poll question ever.
Team Texas Toast all the way.
I tried to make the sauce at home and it went ok.
“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup ketchup
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
That is "allegedly" the recipe. Seems like it's just adding Worcestershire to Fancy Sauce from Stepbrothers.
That's the recipe I used when I made it. I went heavier on the black pepper and I think it turned out pretty spot-on.
We were just talking about trying to find the recipe for Cane's Sauce yesterday. Apparently 11W is an excellent source for important information.
In old Ohio there's a team that's known throughout the land...
I used this recipe to make Cane's sauce for a work potluck. I literally made chicken tenders and the sauce and it was a hit.
Class of 2010.
Also, for around $5 they will sell you the large (32 oz) cup full of Cane's sauce.
I love lamp.
This is good info.
This recipe is missing one ingredient that I know of. Paprika.
I voted extra sauce but usually I go no slaw extra fries. The Caniac combo comes with 2 sauces and I'm usually sharing with my kids. Extra sauce if necessary is only a $.25
Personally I think the slaw is mediocre.
People are saying that I'm an alcoholic, and that's not true, because I only drink when I work, and I'm a workaholic.
I'm not "learned" about such cuisine.
Big bowl of huh for me this morning, wish I had a side of scrapple to go with. Mmm....
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
I was with you until the part about scrapple.
You would create a poll like this and I would read/vote on it while I'm 7,000 miles away. Thanks people, now I'm missing even more things about the U.S. than I originally thought!
Extra Texas toast, all day erry day!
Team Texas Toast. Extra toast helps soak up the booze at 2 am
Way to ruin my day before it even got started, 11W poll creator. Cane's just might be the single best thing about Columbus. I'm salivating, as we speak, just thinking about that Texas toast, fingers and fries. Yet, here I sit at my desk 45 minutes from the Hilliard-Rome exit and the nearest Raising Cane's contemplating if 1/3 tank of gas is worth it. I hate you all.
...Texas toast in place of slaw. Always.
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
it's always worth it.
I'm sorry, but I'm a Popeye's man.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
There must be a Canes franchise owner on this site...
Keep the slaw. Add extra sauce and toast too.
Keep the slaw, ADD an extra Texas Toast AND 2 sauces. This is on a Cainiac of course.
Inní mér syngur vitleysingur
So...FOUR sauces total?
Hell yes. The Texas Toast is merely a vehicle for ingesting extra sauce.
I'm a sauce guy as well.
I voted Huh? myself. You youngin's need to realize Cane's is "relatively" new to campus. Game days I'm usually found in BDubs or Varsity Club depending who I have with me.
"Say my name."
"Hot chicken, hot chicken, which combo you pickin?"
"Box, no slaw, extra toast, extra sauce. With an unsweetened iced tea."
Every. Single. Time.
I agree except I'm not a tea man myself. The Caniac is just too much food.
Columbus to Pasadena: 35 hours. Let's do it.
We're on a road trip through the desert looking for strippers and cocaine... and Rose Bowl wins!
Huh? My boxer pup is named Cane, and i am raising him to be an adult dog.
Now I want to make the 8 hour drive back just for lunch.
And more texas toast all the way
“There are some people addicted to alcohol, some people are addicted to gambling,” Luginbill said. “Urban Meyer is addicted to football, and he’s addicted to winning.”
I love coleslaw. Probably because my grandma used to make homemade 'slaw all the time when I was younger.
We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, we're from O-HI-O!
Dat Texas Toast.
Help is on the way.
I keep the slaw. Extra toast is too dangerous for my diet. Trynna get good looking for the ladies while I'm still young
I play school
I had to laugh at this, Nova. Just thinking about eating mayonnaise drenched cabbage and eating fried food dipped in a mayo/ketchup based sauce while trying to "maintain your figure" just seemed funny in an odd way, lol.
I'm just trying to recreate my drunken thought processes from the past year and this makes the most sense
I keep the slaw but I just might try the switch next time. ;)
“I have yet to be in a game where luck was involved. Well-prepared players make plays. I have yet to be in a game where the most prepared team didn't win.” -Urban Meyer-
The sauce is unique and awesome but one is enough for three fingers. The slaw isn't the best but at least it add a veggie to the meal for balance.
You don't go to Cane's for a "balanced" meal.
True. The slaw is good for rationalization purposes only.
My ironic humor is weak, I guess.
Or I'm just out of it today.
Absolutely Texas Toast. The Cane's sauce (if you need an extra one) is not that expensive by itself. You're losing value if you subtract the slaw for a sauce.
Best poll question ever.
Toast. Or keep the slaw and trade it with the wife for her toast.
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
TEXAS TOAST! Greatest poll question ever!
"They don't know what they don't know." - Coach Mick
Keep the slaw, extra sawwwwcceeee.
You poor poor souls who have not had the chance to visit Canes. Taco Bell defiantly lost clientele when Canes pushed their late night hours, not that you need to visit late nights, its just as good during the day.
Nothing like dancing on the field in 02...
Never been to/heard of Cane's until today since I'm in NC. Looks a lot like Zaxby's based on their website. Either way, I want some damn chicken now!
Zaxby's is okay, Rasin' Cane's is a religious experience.
Based on the discussion here, I figured Cane's had to be a superior product compared to Zaxby's.
I'm with you, just outside of Raleigh. Its Zaxbys, Bojangles, or Smithfields.
We talkin' bout practice?! Not the game I love...the game I die for. Practice?!
Sadly there is a severe lack of Bojangles in my section of north Raleigh. #firstworldproblems
I'll take Canes over Zaxbys but they are both solid and I love some Bohangles breakfast chicken biscuits.
However best tenders for me are from Abner's in Oxford MS.
Zaxby's actually used to have a location on campus for a few months...circa 2008. High between Lane and Frambes...Papa John's is now where Zaxby's used to be. It was pretty good...though not quite as good as Cane's. They had a more expansive menu too...you could get other things like buffalo wings.
You don't need an expansive menu if you do one or two things really, really right.
We should strive to keep thy name, of fair repute and spotless fame...
(Also, I'm not a dude)
That's the beauty of cane's is the simplicity of it.
Team Texas Toast. I've been known to not only replace slaw with toast, but then get another piece of toast on top of it. Seriously, the Texas Toast might actually be better than the tenders. And an extra sauce is like a quarter. Damn you people for making me crave Cane's now.
No slaw, extra toast, extra Canes sauce.....every. single. time. If you asked me if i could have Prime Rib or Texas Toast and Canes sauce.... I would probably take the toast.
Does anyone remember when Cane's opened and they ran an ad in The Lantern for a free meal? That Lantern was no where to be found by 10am.
Edit: That would have been circa 2005/6 if memory serves...
Caniac, keep the slaw, extra sauce, extra toast, and lemonade when they have it. Done and Done.
I really don't understand the obsession with Raising Cane's. It is just chicken fingers and fries. I mean it is good and all, but how hard is it to screw up chicken fingers, fries, or Texas toast.
I just haven't found anything about it that really sets it apart from other places that do similar menu items. Is it the sauce or something?
Sauce + Texas Toast + 12 Beers = Heaven
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Maybe it's just the campus location, or the fact that they accept BuckID. But the ones that I have been to have been alright. Nothing to write home about.
It's a culture thing. Going into Canes at 2am on a Saturday ight with your friends and everyone else who's trashed is a blast. The entire restaurant even sang me happy birthday my Sophomore year. Good times, good times.
Come on man, everyone knows its extra toast!
I've never been there. So, huh?
Bury me in my away jersey, with my buckeye blanket. A diehard who died young. Rip dad.
It's a place that serves nothing but chicken strips (plus fires, toast and cole slaw). If the first time you go is when you are 19 and drunk late at night then the place is heaven sent and will most likely be placed into the pantheon of your nostalgic college memories. If however your first time is when you are 39 and you have a broad palette and enjoy all sorts of highly spiced ethnic cuisine then the place is bland, with an under whelming mayo heavy sauce that, for the life of you, you will never understand what all the fuss is about.
I'm sorry for not being sorry.
Extra Toast...extra sauce...butter both sides! or BBS!! best thing I ever learned!
This is also good info.
These are shocking results. I would have thought toast in a runaway. Keep the slaw has a lot more support that I thought it would. Fasinating.
MmMmMmm. I may have to drive to Vegas next week. That is the closest Cane's to SoCal. I do love to put hot sauce in the Cane's sauce. Oh man I'm hungry.
Huh because NOBODY TOLD ME YOU COULD GET EXTRA TOAST INSTEAD OF SLAW. I hope they never realize what a ridiculous exchange rate that is.
Cane's is always on the food bucket list for each trip to Columbus.
Love me some slaw, I find the meal is unbalanced w/out it.
Agreed. The slaw adds a different texture that compliments the other parts of the meal.
I am sorry, but I dont see why everyone goes bonkers for Cane's......I've been several times hoping to get some great tasting chicken, but it avoids me every time. I miss Cluck U. Is it still in Cbus?
Why don't you go cluck urself. I mean, no.
Oh, cluckerbees. Mmmmmmmmmm...
UGHHHHH! This is the worst poll EVER because now I want some Raising Cane's, but all of the restaurants are hundreds of miles away.
Proud alumnus of the Ohio State Creative Writing MFA Program. Creator of the writing craft site Great Writers Steal.
Will be in Cbus tomorrow and getting Cane's while there. I prefer to keep the slaw and order an extra Toast on the side.
If you're ever curious about how Cane's got started I recommenced reading the history behind it. Todd Graves story behind it is pretty good. Link
Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see.
Canes was one of the main reasons for my freshman 25. Lord I love the Texas toast.
This poll question actually just inspired me to go get canes. Im eating a caniac right now and I replaced the cole slaw with texas toast of course
So I wanted to get Piada tonight (rationalizing it as "healthy") but this poll/thread is making me crave Cane's...
Now you can rationalize that Piada isn't really that much healthier than Cane's!
Good for the owner of Canes for basically making chicken fingers gourmet.
Pro tip. Don't try and order extra Zax sauce at Cane's. They do not like that.
~Because we couldn't go for three~
Dammit, now all I want is Cane's.
And extra sauce, every time. I fell in love at first sight and can't get through a box combo without it.
I get extra fries. I'm disappointed this wasn't an option.
As a recent OSU grad I'm surprised no one mentioned Wings Over Columbus. Way better than Cane's in my opinion
It was mentioned earlier but it's worth repeating. BUTTERED ON BOTH SIDES.
