I'm going for the long shot and saying Indiana. They have a talented coach. Purdue is my 2nd choice. It'd be nice to see Hazell get some success (not against OSU)
Man - that's tough. I want to say Hazell gets it done at Purdue.
"Death created time to grow the things that it would kill" - Detective Rustin Cohle.
Same here, Poison. As much as it would be nice to see for a great coach like Hazell turn it around quickly, their roster has a bunch of ???'s. (Then again, we probably had some similar thoughts about OSU's squad prior to last season..haha)
Iowa, and Kirk gets (yet) another Coach of the year award.
This just seems like the kind if season set up for Iowa-- no one is talking about them, they win 9-10 games, Kirk Ferentz is handed COY unanimously, and he gets the extension he doesn't deserve and Iowa is stuck with him for 10 more years.
The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.
Mark my words, if Urban wins us a championship Ferentz will get B1G COY.
If Urban loses his whole team, fills it in with 80 walk ons, and goes undefeated including a victory over Alabama Ferentz still runs away with the award.
I also want to add that at some point we have to ask, what in the hell does this award represent? It's clearly not success. Or fashion (JT had that shit on lock). Maybe it's for just trying so gosh darn hard?
Geez! Look at all the love for the Hoosiers!
The Hoosiers can score, this we know.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
that's why they got my vote...
That didn't help them in 2012.
Looking at their schedule, 5-7 would be a blessing.
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
That's the thing though. I believe Indiana is a sleeper team that a lot of people will overlook simply because they are playing Indiana and that might just bite them in the ass. Indiana isn't as big of a gimme as they used to be.
Agreed, to add that I think that Kevin Wilson is in a make or break year.
Beckman and Kill seem to have a little bit more leash, Hazell is just starting out, and Ferentz seems to be like Teflon over there.
It's hard to take a team seriously when they're 5-19 in the last two seasons.
Even with Tre Roberson healthy & another year with Wilson, I have a hard time seeing them winning the most games of the teams listed. I cannot wait to find the out answer though...football really can't get here soon enough.
I wanted to pick Indiana but looking at their schedule I couldn't pull the trigger. Went with Minny as it appears they have the more winnable non-conf games. Though its really a toss-up.
Without breaking down the schedules, my gut says Iowa. They seem to do really well when they are unknown and unheralded. Just as they seem to fall apart when they're supposed to be good.
Also, although it doesn't truly matter, when is the last time any of these teams EXCEPT Iowa was in the hunt for the B1G championship?
2001 and 2007 Illinois and 1999 Purdue
Oh man! I forgot about Illinois in 2007. Remember the fumble that was never called? Actually, it was called, but it was called a touchdown. We should have been undefeated that year.
I really like What Kevin Wilsons doing at Indiana I'm really hoping Indiana will fork out some money to keep him so another program doesn't snipe him away. Our conference needs to win some good out of conference games this year. I think the key matchups which will help out conference is winning these games
Illinois vs Washington- long shot but would be HUGE for Big Ten
Indiana vs Missouri- cuz who doesn't wanna see the SEC lose?
Wisconsin vs Arizona St & BYU- new coach getting tested
Purdue vs Cincy- beating ND is unrealistic expectation for Hazel in year 1 but Cincys been a consistent bowl team
Nebraska vs UCLA- cuz they choked last year
Iowa vs Iowa St- good rival game always good beating the BIG 12
TSUN & Mich St vs ND- cuz who doesn't wanna see ND lose 2 games after their joke championship game
Indiana is clearly an up and coming team with that offense.
As their offense gets better their defense becomes worse. It's the only wordly explanation for their aura of suck this decade. Remember when Wisky put up like 87 on them?
