Nobody is THAT stupid
Have you watched Catfish?
"YOLO" = I'm about to do something extremely ignorant/stupid & I need an excuse to do it.
No. But there's no way you are in a long distance relationship for 2+ years and never try to do some kind of video chat...it makes no sense that he "dated" her for two years without questioning why he had never met her...he had to know
I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. But yeah, how you don't have one video chat with todays tech is amazing.
I honestly wouldn't have be shocked if Notre Dame made this all up.
I couldn't go without nooki for that long. Something sounds (cat) fishy to me.

Mentioned this in another thread, but Catfish is at least possibly a fraud in and of itself. Morgan Spurlock called it "the greatest fake documentary I've ever seen", and the film is at least suspect on that front: I mean, what luck from the filmmakers to be able to get absolutely every plot point captured on film! Besides, the brothers who made it have been less than forthcoming about it's authenticity.
I have never seen Catfish, but if it is a reality show then it most certainly has been embellished to create an audience.
I can't speak to the show, but it's based off a movie.
The above link provides these questions to it's authenticity:
"Kyle Buchanan at Movieline questions why the filmmakers would begin obsessively documenting Nev's online relationship so early on, and argues that it is highly improbable that media-savvy professionals like the Schulmans and Joost would not use the Internet to research Megan and her family before meeting them. Others have also questioned the trio's decision to begin filming, as well as the seemingly improbable coincidence of them catching everything of importance to the story on film as it happens. It has also been pointed out that the group's supposed movements in Catfish are not documented in their public blog postings at the time"
Exactly. Catfish is more like Storage Wars than real documentary.
I was with you until Swarbrick put all of his, and ND's chips in for Te'o after they had it investigated. Either way, CRAZY. I am still skeptical...
I tuned out when Captain Jack said something like "oh yeah he was gonna come forward with this on his own next week before this story broke".

Can't edit my above post but first a few more Manti Te'o jokes
Ok all jokes aside I'm not buying this. If he really was talking to this girl there and was buying her flowers, there would be a record. To further strengthen his argument he could show proof of purchase for items he bought for her. Moreover, if she did die, why didn't he go to the funeral after the MSU game? I would expect someone in the Athletic Department to have knowledge of this.
I would buy it if he had said it was 100% online. But the fact that both him and his father said in interviews that they met in 2009 and that she visited him in Hawaii and now he says he never met her??
When you read these interviews and listen to what they said knowing what we know now, it doesn't add up. It's just a matter of who will do the digging and get the truth out. Just a matter of time.
On Dec. 8, two days after Te'o supposedly found out his girlfriend was not dead, he told media at the Heisman Trophy presentation: "I don't like cancer at all. I lost both my grandparents and my girlfriend to cancer."
This is going to take awhile for everything to sort itself out, if it ever does.
I think this about sums up my opinion on the whole thing....
The simplest way to prove Manti's story is to get the people behind the "hoax" in public and have them own up .... since ND claims to have identified the perpetrators.
There's actually a far easier way. Just stroll on to the set of ESPN with some phone records, some text message print outs, and print outs of emails and other messages (maybe copies those letters that she had written to motivate him before each game).
Surely, such a sensitive soul kept at least electronic versions of those touching letters.
The "he's telling the truth" votes are just kidding, right?
I voted "I'm not buying it" because it turns out I'm a cynical bastard, and because there are a lot of holes and questions in the story right now. If he wasn't in on it, I can't fathom the amount of anger and embarassment it has to cause. If he was in on the hoax, what other purpose could it have served but to try to garner Heisman votes?

I voted no, but a third option should read "Waiting for more information". We hated it when other news outlets ran their "Narrative" of what really happened at Ohio State. We were pissed off at the nation and individuals who jumped to conclusions about things and people that we loved and defended. Since Teo isn't endeared or entrenched in any of our hearts, he is an easy target for us and due to the absurdity of this story it compels us to jump to conclusions but we need to fight that urge. Sensationalism and the media feeding frenzy is hard at work here. Where was the media with their fact finding and due diligence when this story first popped up? All too eager to frame something into a narrative that would be pleasing and compelling to read, with no regard for the truth.

Wait, are you really dead? Or just fake dead...
Great post by USMC11917. I was one the first to jump on the "Lyin' Hawaiian" bandwagon, when I realized the potential negative impact this could have on Notre Dame's program. Now thinking about it, a driving force is probably because it feels like payback for the seemingly endless OSU bashing we all suffered through that ended the Tressel era. My biggest issue with this story has been TWWL's pathetic job of objectively covering this story. I'm aware they have to cover themselves here as well, but it just continues to fuel my disgust for the inobjectivity we've grown so accustom to from them.
Exactly. I am so tired of TWWL's coverage on major stories. Totally biased. They are the hype machine personified.
His story has more holes than NDs defense against Bama. Not buying it. This wins the award for most WTF story I have ever heard...
"Death created time to grow the things that it would kill" - Detective Rustin Cohle.
Not buying it. No way no how.
"Say my name."
I'm somewhere in the middle. I think he was originally duped in the hoax and really was buying into it for about a year or 2 but then I think he must have caught on at sometime or thought something was up but didn't really push the issue. I have a feeling his emotions during the time of the deaths was very real and with the real death of his grandmother, I think he just allowed himself to believe it all and went with it.
I'm not sure, but was it him who blew the whistle on this whole thing and he asked ND to investigate it? or did I hear incorrectly? because if he was the one who uncovered the truth (supposedly he received a phone call from the dead girlfriends number and someone said it was a hoax) then I am curious why he would do that to himself if he was apart of it.
Edit: Yep, he supposedly found out about this by a phone call and asked for an investigation because he believes he was duped. Also, what is with an AZ cardinal football player saying he has actually met the girl and that she is real. So she is real but not the girl who T'eo was having a relationship with. Just crazy!
and if he is really that sick to play this out for either sympathy or celebrity, then he is absolutely sick and isn't a real humanbeing to even come up with such a joke. This would go way beyond even that catfish crap!
I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!
My question then is why did ND not get in front of it then (when it was reported to them). Why are they (ND) now doing all this just now in response to the Deadspin article. Something about all that is not right in my mind...
No, the story is that he received the call about it from someone with the dead girlfriends number. Then he told the University. Supposedly they were investigating this before the story broke. That is the story according to ND and representatives involved. Now the deadspin story didn't come out till yesterday and supposedly Te'o was already aware of this and learning all the details.
The thing that still throws me is the player in the NFL who says he met Kekua in the Samoas and knows that her mother runs her twitter account. What the hell is that all about? So the girl does actually exist but she wasn't the one who Te'o was "dating" and is she still alive if she does exist. That is the part that is so odd.
I just am trying give him the benefit of the doubt for now because it really would take a sick human being to be apart of something like that when in reality your grandmother died of the same thing. To play along with that with the intent to foll everyone else I think would be awful. I just don't think a devout Mormon who went to ND would go that far and for what, a bit more notoriety? that would just be sick!
The whole thing is as strange a story as I ever heard
If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now.
The football player says that their meeting/talking to each other was before her and Te'o were "together" or had knowledge of each other if that matters to you. Someone could have simply used her name, either the duper or Te'o, in this entire ruse after the fact of the nfl player knowing her.
I just don't think a devout Mormon who went to ND would go that far and for what, a bit more notoriety? that would just be sick!
And someone else spending all these years and nights on the phone with Te'o just for a prank with nothing to really gain is more believable? Also, why the heck does his being a Mormon make you think his side is more believable? (Not to say anything about a particular faith, I'm more asking about a person being of an open faith in general. That's incredibly disturbing. If you didn't know he was religious you would be less inclined to believe him? Since he has a devout faith that makes you think he's telling the truth? That, of course, necessarily implies that someone not of devout faith, or say, an atheist, does seem like someone that would go so far as to be in on the hoax and not a believability quality. Are you eligible to serve on a jury of another human being's peers? I'm not saying this was your intent with the statement, but I can't help but take that meaning and I'm losing faith in humanity all over again. Overtly devout religious people have done bad things before, way worse for sure. I read that Cowherd made a similar remark today and I hope you're not using his logic to form opinions.)
I forgot the guy who allegedly created the fake girlfriend is apparently a devout religious person who is in a worship band (with videos inline). So the only two options seem to be (1) either one of these devoutly religious is guilty of headline-worthy dishonesty, or (2) both are.
See, you need to read that whole sentence. I said to get a bit of notoriety. Religious people have done bad things along these lines but typically for loads of money or power or other reasons. I just don't see enough of a reason to perpitrate such a hoax for a notch more fame than he would have already gotten as a ND player.
Not to talk religion, so I will stop now. Just think about someone who is devout and would they really do such a thing. Not someone who says they are, like televangelists.
I gave you +1, but I meant +1000. Preconceived notions infuriate me.
I'm wondering if the 33 people who believe him have fake dead significant others too.
I am one of them but I don't have fake dead relatives. I think he was truly duped, but I don't think the whole story is out about when and how he actually found out about it. So I believe him, I just don't think he is telling the whole story.
Plus you saw how easily Bama fooled him, I believe he could easily be duped!
If you think he was "duped" (which I don't), then he is still a liar.
Regardless of if he was "tricked" or not, the dude continuously lied about several parts of the story. And his dad also lied about several parts of the story. So at the very least he is SUPER gullible and a liar. Therefore you can't say "He's telling the truth."
Despite what many people think, sometimes college kids tend to "exaggerate" their relationships to get their buddies off their backs. You telling me you never had a friend who said he did some girl or went out with some girl and she later denied it? You telling me guys don't lie about hooking up with their guy friends or what not?
He was a mormon raised kid who probably believed in waiting and doing things the proper way before you even hold hands or kiss, but was probably teased by his teammates or whomever that he actually believes he has a girlfriend who he communicates over the internet but never met her so he made up some stories about meeting her in Hawaii or knowing more about her than is the truth. Sometimes guys lie to save face.
tell me what is more believable, that he was duped and is innocent enough to believe he was actually dating a woman online but didn't want to admit he never met her, so he lied.
he pulled off a big hoax where he created a fake girlfriend so he can tell everyone about how she died of Leukemia the same day as his "real" grandmother so he can have some sympathy and a bit more notoriety 3 years later for a Heisman campaign. I mean he must have been a psychic to know that he could create an elaborate story to get him a Heisman and possibly into the NFL. He just needed that much attention!
I mean it could be either way, but I think him getting duped because he is that trustworthy is much more believable than playing along with a ruse that is national news, while he is truly mourning his very close dead grandmother, to get more attention for what end gains we don't know. Maybe the dead grandmother/dead girlfriend story can get him some real ass!
So maybe he did lie about actually meeting her, doesn't mean he wasn't fooled by a hoax and wasn't aware of it.
The thing that says something is wrong is the fact that the girl was the love of his life, his words, meant more to him than anything in the world, his words, and he never attempted to see her? Through the tragedies of car crash, recovery from car crash, cancer diagnosis, cancer treatment and ensuing battle, and not even the funeral of this love of his life could bring this guy to his girls side? Someone is not telling the truth and I personally do not think it is the fake dead girl. Hope it doesn't ruin this kids life but it was something that grew bigger than anyone could imagine imo.
There are many arranged marriages in this world where the two have never met but have probably seen pictures, maybe talked by email and grew to like each other. There are many couples who meet online but never actually meet in person because they are to afraid of what will happen. They just aren't that good at dating, so they keep it online.
there are people who go on a website that is strictly for hooking up married people. There are people who get off on getting burned or hung on hooks. Who knows what were the rules of that relationship or what transpired. What is normal to you and I might not be what Te'o is looking for.
I thought it was odd they never met but then I found out he was mormon and in my personal interactions with mormons, not much is normal there.
First of all, I have no friends. Secondly, if he is the "victim" in all of this, he has some MAJOR explaining to do with many elements of the whole story.
Who in their right mind has a gf for 3 years and has NEVER seen them in person? How do you explain that? If ANY of us had a gf for 3 years and hadn't even seen them in person, they would no longer be our gf.
you ask that but how do you explain you have no friends? How do you explain that? I have not met anyone ever who can truly say they have no friends, not one! Its not what someone in their "right mind" can say, they have no friends.
see what I did there!
Just pointing out that not everyone has the same ideas when it comes to relationships like you and I do.
Also, I think the gay thing could be a possibility. and if that were true and he did all this to hide that he is gay because he was afraid how it would ruin his career, then really is he the bad person or is he a victim of a society that won't accept his true story!
No really, I have no friends and no one likes me. Not even my wife and kids.
But seriously, regardless of what went down, you have to admit Te'o has A LOT of explaining to do, victim or not.
For me, there is just way too much questionable stuff in all of this for me to believe he was a victim and for as long as he claims.
Anything is possible. Some people are very gullable. Especially when they use religion to back up their faith in what they deem the truth. and if he did do this, who really needs an explanation. Who is a victim of this story? Only person I can see being a victim would be him if he really was duped.

“Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect.” - Woody
I just don't get what the end game was here if it was a hoax. If you are going to try and extort him for money or something when he made it to the NFL why would you kill her off?
well and if he was in on it, what would he gain by making up such a story. It helped him in no way that I think could be worth coming up with an elaborate scheme like this. I mean the "relationship" started in 2009, he was a freshman then. Not starting, not in the national media, not a Heisman candidate. So what reason would he come up with such a story. That is the only part that makes me think he is innocent, because he just gets nothing out of this and absolute ridicule if he gets caught.
I think that is a legitimate point but (and I might be mistaken) we only think it started in 2009 because that is when he said it started. As far as what he has gained from possibly making up the story I think you can just look at this past season. Every person that has mentioned Te'o has stated how it is a great story. It has been stated numerous times on this site and other that RDS had better stats (as did other linebackers) but their story wasn't as good. This GF story/death was looked at as a rallying point for this ND team and the main focus of Te'o's story.
So he created this story so he would be a finalist for the Heisman back in August, before the season started? A. I don't think even a cunning con artist could have predicted that and B. still, what did he actually gain from it? The story was nice, but will that story make him a first round pick? I doubt it. Will that story have guaranteed a Heisman? no way. Will that story get him anything that would be worth the negative backlash if he did create the hoax? not at all.
I know you are saying he got recognition for it and was the talk of the season, but the pros and cons do not weight out enough to actually go through with it. I wouldn't pull this off for anything less than 10 million dollars. It just isn't worth it. And based on his pre-season talk and before all this happened, he was going to the NFL, so it didn't get him anymore money there.
IMO: if he was a victim in all of this, you can't say it didn't help him in the Heisman race. It was a perfect storm really. His grandmother died, his fake girlfriend died, Notre Dame makes it's way undefeated through the season and Te'o is billed by everyone and their fake dead girlfriends as the emotional and inspirational leader of the team. His stats were not as good as other linebackers in the country, and yet he's a Heisman finalist and wins just about every major college football award. Without this story, combined with America's obsession with Notre Dame, the dude's not a Heisman finalist.
So the emotional leader of the undefeated team who is going to the championship game and actually had some decent stats, is not a heisman finalist? I find that very unlikely.
The best player of the top team, especially a Notre Dame team with its following, would have gone to NYC with or without this story. It happens all the time!
Plus the story was enough already, he didn't need a dead girlfriend to add to it. A dead, very close, grandmother, undefeated ND, is enough to get the extra push you are describing. He didn't need to make up anything more.
and stop trying to bring up RDS stats over his, RDS was not the emotional leader of OSU, nobody from OSU was going to get any recognition with the bowl ban (I mean Braxton didn't go, so why would RDS). Te'o had good enough stats and was going to be in the limelight anyways. Story or not, Te'o gets the nod over RDS any day and time because of many other reasons. The fact that RDS outplayed him doesn't mean anything. Its all politics now. a star player for an undefeated ND team gets that without a story.
I didn't say anything about RDS. I'm not even making that argument.
I said having a dead girlfriend helped him. Was he a good player, sure, of course. But his story of overcoming adversity and prevailing on the field, along with America's obsession with Notre Dame, helped him tremendously. Each week and with each ND victory, the story grew bigger and bigger. To say it had nothing to do with his hype is foolish.
I believe it was probably 10% of the hype! To say the story about his dead girlfriend is the reason he did get to NYC is foolish! If it was stories and fables that won Heismans, then we would see a lot bigger woes me stories than this one. The linebacker from Rutgers would have won it a few years ago.
but it doesn't. It has more to do with play on the field and the politics of what team you play for and how good they do. If Te'o played on an 8-5 ND team this year, he wouldn't have even come close to going to NYC, despite stats or stories.
80% was the ND hype machine and being undefeated
10% was stats
10% was the grandmother and GF.
that is the truth!
*you mentioned other linebackers and everyone has been talking about how RDS has bigger stats than Te'o.
80% was the ND hype machine and being undefeated
10% was stats
10% was the grandmother and GF.
that is the truth!
How scientific. There was a Heisman voter on Mike and Mike today who confirmed he voted for Te'o based on the story.
WOW! So he must have won the heisman then since everyone voted for Te'o because of the story.
Oh wait, he didn't!
See my point is that the heisman is political but stats are involved. Your point is the heisman is only for the player who has the best story because one guy was a dope and "says" he voted that way. Had nothing to do with anything else but the story. Sorry I was soooo wrong. I guess I'm just ignorant to the way things are.
I totally forgot about that linebacker that won the heisman after suffering a spinal chord injury!
Oh wait, that didn't happen either!
I've got my tHeory but given its inflammatory nature, I won't divulgE it. If it comeS out that what I'm thinkinG is true, I won't brAg about being correct. I do think he is verY carefully covering up something because if said something is true, it could cost him millions in the NFL.
4-6 seconds from point A to point B and when you get to point B, be pissed off
That he's not really a linebacker (or into chicks)? ;)
at some point it'll hurt his draft stock more to keep lying versus just coming out. sure some teams/fans will ostracize him but at least there's the chance a more openminded organization and franchise takes him on and he gets to be the public face of the LGBT movement as the First Openly Gay NFL star, endorsements, etc. Potentially. It's better than just digging and digging ...
Bomani Jones @bomani_jones
bingo RT @nfldraftscout: NFL exec. this morning, "We'll draft criminals, but lie to my face and you're off our board."
Not to downplay the obstacles and hardships a potential first gay nfl player would face, but at this point if he keeps lying he'll lose Everything. Coming out might ruin his career as well but at least then he'd still have a shot at salvaging it.
And its a sad fact of life but NFL GM's and Owners are all stuck in about the 1960's while locker rooms are even worse than that. Again-this is just my theory here given other stuff that has come out about how Te'o interacted with team mates. Personally, I really couldn't care less of any FOOTBALL players orientation on any subject because if a dude can run and hit, a dude can run and hit. I don't care what they are interested in off of the field. Sadly, the NFL is not as accepting. I don't know for sure if its the case but if it is-then this entire cover up\story\hoax\whatever makes so much more sense.
I thought I would point out that you have randomly capitalized letters in your post that shouldn't be capitalized. This kind of carelessness is not usually seen from you Brewsters. Don't let it happen again!
Seriously though, #iseewhatyoudidthere.
WAAAHHHH? ME? Noooo I didn't do that.
if he did do this because he is really gay and created a fake GF to have a beard, then I would be less upset at him and more about why he would have to come up with such a story. It is a sad day when a player would feel much more comfortable about fake dating a girl for 3 years and then killing her like that then to just come out and say he was gay.
Yeah- if it turns out he is gay and tried to hide it, panicking a little when things started to fall apart, then to me the whole thing is at least understandable. Bad judgement, maybe, and spiraled out of control, certainly, but understandable. The focus would then be on coming out and sports, which is probably a conversation that needs to be had.
Nope, not even then. Just because (for arguments sake) he's sexually diverse it doesn't make any of this more understandable to me. ** I agree the cart is way before the horse on this argument.
It would be understandable because it would be easier to falsify a GF who lives somewhere else and isn't around than to get someone to go along with it. Then after 3 years of lying about it, he starts to get worried he will be found out about it and panicks and kills her off.
but I don't really believe he is gay. I really think he was duped, at some point did figure something was off but by that time he was already dealing with his grandmother being sick and just went along with everything. Sometimes a religious background can make someone accepting of more than us sceptics do.
Why would a heisman runner up/1st round nfl draft pick want to be in an online relationship?
Because he really liked the girl, and cared about that more than getting some?
Thanks. I haven't had such a good laugh in days.
He liked her so much that he was reportedly, "Getting it from elsewhere on campus"?
How about option C: Why am I supposed to care?
My personal theory is that this started off as a joke/prank of some sort that he was in on, and then spiraled completely out of control.
He was embarrassed that his girlfriend was a Michigan fan.....here is the proof...
Drama Queen(s) = Brian And Manti
They need thier Man Card Pulled if they were involved in this.
I tried to put in one of Ramzy's tweets, but I could not imbed code.
The whole "victim" argument absoutely reeks of spin. From Te'o's initial statement to Swarbrick's press conference, the point has been absolutely hammered into us that it was "Te'o's infallable confidence in people" that made him such an ideal mark for this kind of nonsense. They're literally trying to gloss over every hole in his tale. From the fact that the South Bend Tribune has profiled Te'o and mentioned a storybook meeting after the Stanford game in Palo Alto in 2009, and mentioned her going to Hawaii to visit him multiple times (of course, Swarbrick denied the meetings ever occurring), there's a lot of unaccounted information that was deferred for Te'o's recounting.
If Te'o really was innocent in this, telling the truth wouldn't be warranting of delay. There'd be no reason to cancel his interview, since truth comes from the heart. Lies take time to construct.
My money says that you'll see Te'o--if he's intent to keep the charade up--say that he lied about the meetings because he didn't want to admit that the relationship was totally online and by phone. The Tuiasosopo connection will be the stickiest to shake, though. It'll probably take a while before everything is completely revealed, if ever.
Gotta wonder if Tuiasosopo is trying to sell his side of the story to the media, as well.
Hodge, do you think he fell for the hoax initially and then was too embarrassed to tell the truth? It continued to snowball out of control which made it more difficult to go publicly with the truth. That is the closest I can come to believing Manti was drawn in. Anyway that this comes off, Manti is a phony.
That is the most logical explanation. But if it was a hoax and he was duped, when did he REALLY know it was a hoax?
I can't wait to get the full truth so that all our questions will be answered. I think we all need a gray box.
It's plausable, but it doesn't change the fact that their "fairytale" story that was reported by the South Bend Tribune (since deleted...I smell collusion) mentions that they had, in fact, met. So far, that angle has yet to have been addressed; if Te'o were to have fallen for a hoax, and truly never met the girl--like ND's "heavy vetting of his story" indicated--then he'll have to own up the fact that he completely over-elaborated and lied about an internet correspondence for sake of personal gain. In my opinion, he's screwed.
I think he can get away with that one. I have been saying on here all day, there could be very plausible reasons why he would lie about meeting her.
the most probable one would be "How do you know she isn't a guy?" After having to answer that for a while, he decided to lie about meeting her.
guy friends can be cruel and especially football buddies.
Yeah. I've echoed a similar statement about it being his only "out", but that being said he'll still be eviscerated for over-embellishing and in some cases lying about an internet-only relationship for sake of personal gain. What he knew, and when he knew it will be key here towards figuring out how damned he's going to look in all of this.
I guarantee this is why his interview was canceled; like it or not, ND and Te'o have established a narrative. That narrative will be key for him to stick to, there's a lot of holes he has to fill--and his character (despite ND's PR team's best efforts) won't really help him a lot now--and if he leaves any stone unturned, people will pounce on it.
I agree totally. This whole topic stinks as to how so many people could have been duped. I am amazed how Manti played out this whole charade until after the championship game. It sounds as though it was for selfish personal gain.
I really hope for Manti's sake that he does not get depressed over this and causes personal injury. He needs to come clean and take his medicine. Time to get on with his life.
I have to come clean. I have read every post about this entire Te'o thing and it has caused me to confess a relationship of my own. Over the past 15 years I have been in a deep loving relationship with a Hollywood starlet. I have seen all of her movies, I read all interviews she does, I have been to her web site. I have never talked to her or messaged her. But she is the love of my life. I dream about her and the only reason I married my wife is beacuase her Grandmother shares the same name. Of course I am the victim of this relationship, because my love doesn't even know I exist. I'm in love with Betty White. And she will be gone someday and I'll never will be with her.
I've also had relationships with Selma Hyek, Heidi Clum and Christie Brinkley, but those were purely sexual.
Boy, I feel beeter getting that off my chest.
The fact that 95% of my 11W brothers and sisters belive that Te'o is in on it partially restores my faith in humanity.
I like to believe that the 5% accidentally clicked the wrong option.
Maybe he found out it was a hoax awhile back and the story of her death was crafted to explain where his girlfriend was during/after interviews, etc.? If so, then ND, Swarbrick, and the SBT may have all been in collusion only if he made them aware and they knowingly participated in the cover-up to tack it onto - and to exploit - the real death of his grandmother for his Heisman PR campaign.
EVERYONE in the major media bought into the story and talked about it, he finished second (which he otherwise might not have, based purely upon statistics), and no one's any the worse off if they can pull it off. THAT sounds plausible. I agree with Hodge: any way this ends, the kid's screwed.

I believe him. After all, the stereotype is that Mormons can't tell a lie.
I play school
So now its out there that he lied about how much he loved her. He didn't have that "special" relationship with the hoax person and once the story blew up he went along with it.
So really he was duped with the hoax but it didn't really matter much because he really didn't love her or care as much as he let on. Bit then it comes out, this amazing story that would get him in the limelight, and he takes advantage. He never saw her because he didn't care enough to try. He was getting ass on campus. He played along until he found out it was a hoax, he then realized he needs to come clean about not really being in a relationship with her.
Now that makes sense!
Manti Te'o - he has 99 problems but a real bitch ain't one.
That fake bitch is going to make up a sizeable chunk of those 99 problems.
Class of 2010.
I think the answer is obvious Manti Teo being a true mormon had numerous girlfriends that were auditioning to be one of his many wives
Hows he going to meet all of them?
