But forreal though, anyone that can weasel their way into a contract like the one Ferentz is on is obviously a genius, and he just isn't applying himself in the coaching realm. If he wanted, he could go 56-0 for the next 4 years

As you noted, the fact that Ferentz has managed the contract and salary he gets despite how poorly Iowa has performed over the past decade is, in and of itself, a reason for him to get B1G COY. As for the 56-0, I think a certain Urban F Meyer would like a word with you on that.

As was mentioned on 610 yesterday, being at OSU, the chance of winning is slim based on the advantage the coach has from the start. It makes sense if you think about it. Is it right? No, but that is life.

I think this year is the best chance he would have, but since BoB was able to do almost as well this year as PSU did last year after only losing 3 players, that was obviously better than Urban turning a 6-7team into 12-0.

Ferentz is sorely under paid at Iowa. Any wins at all should get him COY award. He got shafted this year for shizz.

What people aren't realizing is that Ferentz is also playing against AIRBHG every game. He wins the awards simply based on the fact that he's playing a GOD.

^^^^^This made me laugh 1.8....not to mention how many tTUN fans are saying he's going to redshirt....I'm not so sure about that. If they can't get a Juco QB, then it's going to be Gardner and "God" as you called him as the back up. I can't believe they're denying this will happen after watching that other back up go 3 for 20 or whatever it was against Nebraska. Kind of a no brainer really...

Not just that he went 3 for 20, but the time it took for his throws to get to their targets. Put it this way, if a Bellomy slant and Ben Buchanan punt motion raced four times around a track, John Hankins would lap them twice while giving Chris Carter a piggyback ride.

If my son said "Hey Dad I want to be an Iowa running back", I would just break his knee then and there and ask him if he would like to spend 4 years in that pain. The Big Ten can keep their COY trophies as long as they keep sending the BIG 10 Champs trophies to C-Bus.

Living 45 minutes from Iowa City I can tell you that (finally) many fans want Ferentz out - until they remember his current buyout would land him nearly $19,000,000, otherwise known as $219,000 per MONTH from now (if termed) until the contract ends in January of 2020. Yes, you read that right.

For comparison purposes, Danny Hope's entire buyout at Purdue was $600,000. Total. Fire your agent, dude.

Unfortunately for the 2013 COY award, the Hawkeyes went 4-8 this season including (currently) riding a 6-game losing streak - PERFECT scenario to go 9-4 next season and take home another COY for Kirk.

For the record - love that 11W put that in as a voting option.

I realize Tress never won it and should have...however....if Urban repeats with an undefeated season next year, it's going to be really hard to find "any other coach" who has duplicated that...in B1G history (or throw it away like it was this year to O'Brien). It's going to be hard to deny Urbs if he does it again...

Well, you see, he set precedent this year by going undefeated. Anything less in the future will be a disappointment and eliminate him from being B1G CoY.

Don't hold your breath BOB has this "award" sown up for the next 4 years. Even if Urban goes 26-0 and wins the MNC next year.

Nah, it'll just go to Ferentz when he puts Iowa into a bowl next year after tragically losing another, key Iowa running back to an ACL injury at the hands of AIRBHG.

Maybe Ferentz deserved it in 02. When a coach can take a middle of the road program like Iowa and go 11-1 while a coach at an ultra-elite program like Ohio State goes 13-0 in that same season then you should give the nod to the guy from Iowa. Any decent coach can win tons of games in a place like Ohio State. It has everything you need to win: enormous, rabid fanbase; tons of cash; countless decades of exceptional performance; unmatched facilities; tons of in-state talent.

And what does Iowa have to match that? Nothing.

That does not mean that Tressel shouldn't have won the award once or twice and that doesn't mean that Meyer shouldn't win it in his tenure. I think that, besides the obvious sour grapes, the people that vote for COY look at things besides just overall record.

To err is human. Really sucking requires having yellow stripes on your helmet.

Urban Meyer took over a team that went 6-7, lost it's top RB, WR, and three starting OL and THEN found out the team would be inelligible to play in a bowl. What did he do with that team? Took them on the road and beat both last year's B1G Championship Game representatives (Wiscy, MSU), destroyed this year's legend's division rep by 25 points at home, won his first game against arch rival and preseason top 10 team michigan, and just for good measure beat the B1G's pick for COTY in his own house by two scores. All that culminated in just the 6th undefeated season in the storied history of Ohio State football . . . and they gave the award to sad sack BOB. They gave it to him after losing at home to a MAC team, after getting drilled at home by OSU, after leading a team that had won nine games the previous season to an eight win season this year. Why? Because his team didn't lie down on the turf in the fetal position weeping all season. Good job, BOB. Good job B1G.

BUT PENN STATE FOOTBALL IS THE VICTIM HERE. THESE KIDS DID NOTHING WRONG, AND THEY GOT PUNISHED. THEY HAVE SO MUCH HEART AND OVERCAME PERSONNEL LOSSES TO PLAY A GREAT SEASON WITH EVERYONE SPITTING IN THEIR FACES.

...just like Ohio State, except we didn't lose a damn game.

Nope. And I hope he never does. Look, this award obviously goes to the guy who completes the best turn around job. As bad as things were at Ohio State, last season was something very few of us have ever experienced as fans, it wasn't what Bill O'Brien had to deal with. I don't like him, or Penn State, and I certainly find them honoring the 2012 team in the ring of honor to be pretty disgusting, but the guy took over a really crappy situation and got his team to a respectable 8-4 record with stragglers and Matt McGloin.

I don't care about this award. Let the upstarts enjoy it, Urban's game will always be bigger than a conference COY award. I never want OSU to rebuild, so let this go to whatever piss ant coach from a piss ant program has the good fortune to win a few more games than his team lost in the year previous. None of this matters anyway as the Big Ten is going to be under Meyer and Ohio State's foot for a long time.

Here's the thing: Kirk Ferentz isn't doing God's work. He's working against AIRBHG and continues to line up running backs of marginal quality, DESPITE being cursed.

What other coach has a spiritual being working against them? Kirk Ferentz is a man who deserves awards.

The only way I see Urban winning one would be if the Buckeyes go undefeated again next year. Even then, there's a good chance he doesn't get it. After that chance though, I just don't see them giving it to him.

He'll win COY in a year when OSU is considered to be "down" (which will be never, actually). It'll be a year removed from a BCS Title, when Braxton graduates, and the Buckeyes go 11-1 and win the B1G with a young QB (JT Barrett or another guy).

if we win the national championship game next year and Urban doesn't get it (maybe because BOB gets penn state to 9+ wins on 65 scholarships?), he will never get it; he is that good.
