16 Cedar Point Employees Arrested for Melee

Things got a little hectic over the weekend at America's Rollercoast, it appears.

According to WCPO Cincinnati, 16 people were arrested for a brawl that erupted at 3:15 a.m Sunday morning in the Cedar Point Commons, an employee recreation complex.

Employees were charged with everything from aggravated rioting to assaulting a police officer. Natch, 13 of the offenders hailed from Michigan, compared to three from Ohio.

Must've been a wild party.

Rumor has it, the riot started over a 2 hour line to use the common restroom ... only to have the toilet break 5 people into the rotation!

Here is a video of the fight

Apparently, the three Ohioans had enough pairs of Gold Pants between them for all of the Michiganders to have a pair.  When they refused to share them, the Michiganders rioted.

At least they weren't down here recruiting...

Did anyone else find it amusing that a Cincinnati station was reporting it.  Probably got a tip from the Kings Island staff.

Edit:  I would like to apologize for the actions below where a thread was taken over by a conversation about ice cream.  This was not my intent.

Cincinnati has an inferiority complex when it comes to other Ohio institutions.  I suppose they do have Graeter's going for them... which is in the top 12 nationally for ice cream joints.  Except wait, they're still second place in Ohio, nevermind.  And let's not forget those bUCkeye state shirts.  I guess I would have an inferiority complex if I came in second for everything too.

I'd still put Handel's, out of Youngstown, ahead of Graeter's too, but that's my biased Youngstown opinion coming in there.

I'd take Handel's and Toft's out of Sandusky over Graeter's as well.

Handel's is pretty great, and I have no ties to Youngstown whatsoever 'cept that I love Jim Tressel.

I don't know if I've ever had Toft's in all of the times that I've been to Sandusky. Next time I'm there, which is hopefully sometime this summer, I'll have to make sure I make a stop there.

That's funny, mainly because I found myself looking for the "ice cream thread" and had completely forgotten the original topic.

Slam Graeter's if you like, but that black raspberry chip is pretty damn good. My problem with Jeni's is that the flavor combinations are absolutely ridiculous.

Take this one, for example: Saison With Sunflower Seeds & Golden Flax. That's right, bear and flax seeds. Really? Let's try another one: Goat Cheese with Red Cherries. Who dreams this nonsense up? I've never felt like bopping in to Jeni's despite all the rave reviews because those type of flavors make it sound like the shop only appeals/caters to the hipster elite, and that sure isn't me.

If you can convince me that I'm being fair to Columbus' pride and frozen joy, I'll happily eat some humble pie a la mode.

My problem with Jeni's is that the flavor combinations are absolutely ridiculous.

But Brambleberry Crisp is pretty freaking insane....

...

AndyVance's picture

...and that may well be the case, but I'd never think to order it, because I have no idea what a bramble berry crisp is without looking it up on their website. Sometimes I think that we've gone too far with the whole "foodie" movement, or at least that we're too clever by half when it comes to dreaming up things people might want to eat.

Incidentally, do you know what the best ice cream product I've had yet this spring/summer happens to be? A vanilla milkshake from United Dairy Farmers. You know why? Because it was insanely great - while it may be the most pedestrian variation I could have ordered, the flavor was perfect, the consistency was spot on, and it wildly exceeded any and all expectations I've ever had for a vanilla shake. And that's the point, really - regardless of how crazy the flavor combo is, if it tastes good, that's all that matters. Chefs and food marketers trying to out-trend all the other trendy eateries out there just doesn't appeal to me anymore.

Hilarious - I hadn't seen that one in quite a while :)

I seem to recall Jeni's doing something some summers back along the lines of "sweet corn and jalapeño," or something to that effect. That's probably when I said, "this is not the ice cream for me."

+3 HS
Buckeyeneer's picture

Oh, I don't know, Andy. I get your point but on the other hand, when a beer maker does something crazy; it's celebrated. I think its cool that Jeni's does something different and that the nation has taken notice. In my mind, Jeni's is the Dogfish Head of ice cream.

I suppose my complain/criticism/"get off my lawn" rant isn't really about Jeni's, but about the broader trend of foodie/hipster marketers trying to one-up some other foodie hipster. I'm not all that big on trend beers, either. The Sam Adams seasonal I had with lunch today was pretty good, but the Leinenkugel summer shandy is maybe even a bit better. My favorite beers? Yuengling, but more especially Dos Equis Amber on tap, exceedingly cold in a frosted mug. Just do your thing and make sure it's great - don't try to bedazzle me with some fad.

+2 HS
I_Run_The_Dave's picture

Humble Pie is probably a seasonal flavor at Jeni's.

Actually Goat Cheese with Red Cherries is one of my favorite flavors there, it tastes like you are eating cherry cheesecake.  Whiskey and Pecans is pretty delicious as well.  The big negative about Jeni's is the price for what you get.  Graeters is a much much better value and the quality is just as good.

Anyway, I was mostly just ribbing Cincinnati in jest, wasn't trying to start an ice cream thread.  Now I'm going to go get some salty caramel from Graeter's after work...

+1 HS
AndyVance's picture

Salty carmel - SOOOO GOOD.

+2 HS
I_Run_The_Dave's picture

I was originally implying that Graeter's had stolen the idea from Jeni's, but I came across this article to show that Graeter's had it first:

http://www.theicecreaminformant.com/2013/07/review-graeters-salted-caram...

Graeter's can probably thank Jeni's for it's recent popularity, though.  Maybe I'll actually have to try the Graeter's version...

Find it a tad disappointing that no one has mentioned Youngs Jersey Dairy here. Some of the best ice cream Ive ever had. And the place itself is a great trip for the whole family.

When I was in college a buddy and I were life guards for a summer at Cedar Points water park. This was ten years ago and I can see not much has changed. It's a total party when you work there. You work during the day and party almost every single night. It's was one crazy summer I'll tell ya that. Not too many 3am brawls though.

I didn't know Soak City got down like that. I just usually focus on flipping over as many kids sitting on tubes in the wave pool as I can until I get yelled at.

I worked the wave pool, lazy river, and a few of the slides throughout the coarse of the summer. I gotta say I hardly ever yelled at people. Odds are I was hungover and yelling was just not an option.

So, in light of hijacked threads and yesterday's GOT poll, I pose this question:

Jennifer or Bailey?
