Vince Young Earns Tryout with the Cleveland Browns

In what can only be considered a ringing endorsement of the current quarterback depth of the Cleveland Browns, it appears Browns GM Ray Farmer is kicking the tires on a few free agent QBs.

Some are more recognizable than others:

As an owner of the Browns (in Madden's franchise mode)  I once picked Vince Young off the street and he led Cleveland to its first Super Bowl win. The year, however, was 2009.

Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen? Only if they're gonna be 3rd string, which in Cleveland means they'll have at least 2 or 3 starts by the end of the season...

At least it wasn't Vince Evans.

Yet they couldn't part with a 7th rounder for TP.

Exactly, at least pick up someone who is actively playing competitive football on a championship team.

I am not a Browns fan, but my wife grew up in Cleveland a true fan, and I feel awful for her every year...

YES - why are they not talking to Troy? This makes no sense to me.

As a Bills fan, they cut VY while keeping Thigpen (for another year) back in 2012 and traded for Tarvaris Jackson. I'm pretty sure that is all the Browns really need to know at this point.

I once drafted TP with the first pick in madden and he was a 98 OVR, unfortunately things down always work out like they do in the video games... or ohio state would be aiming for a 14-pete national championship in 2017

Recent Heisman winner, number 10 in college?

I'm sure there's another who should be considered...

troy would def put butts in the seats... but this is the Browns we are talking about.  pretty much the opposite of whatever you consider logical will be their course of action.

Is he mentally stable yet? What happened to Hoyer the Destroyer?

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

Vince is a camp arm with huge upside. The Browns had to ink a veteran before voluntary minicamp because they only had two QBs on the roster. Hoyer is coming off injury and will be limited. The Browns are also likely to draft a QB. Thus, if VY manages to make the team, he is likely the third qb. The NFL is comprised of 32 NFL teams. It is customary to have 3 QBs per team, that is 96 NFL QBs. There aren't 96 QBs better than Vince Young. Why not see what he has? The Browns are giving up nothing to see if a 30 year old former 3rd pick in the draft can help a depleted roster.

Agreed and well said. Someone on the team has to hold a clipboard and run the opposing teams offense during the week.

Because I couldn't go for 3.

not anymore. after preseason, the majority of the teams only keep 2 QBs on the roster, then usually stash one on the Practice squad or something. Teams started giving that 3rd QB spot to another position that has a better chance of contributing, whether it be special teams work or something else.

The Browns have 4 QB's that all start at least one game a season.

I might be the only one who doesn't hate this.  Yeah it's not Troy, but honestly I thought VY looked good in his lone pre-season game for the Packers last year.
