Ohio State and North Dakota clashed again on Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes, up 1-0 in the best-of-three series, had an opportunity to finish off the Fighting Hawks and advance to their first WCHA semifinal since 2013. However, UND staved off elimination with a 4-1 victory.

Goaltenders Kassidy Sauve and Lexie Shaw dueled through 31:57 scoreless minutes before North Dakota’s Charley Dahlquist posted the game’s first goal. Her power play tally was answered by OSU’s Maddy Field. She potted a man-advantage score of her own to tie the game at 1-1 going into the third period.

The Hawks pulled ahead in the final frame. Top point-getter Amy Menke netted her tenth goal of the season. This would turn out to be the game winner. UND added two scores late, the last being an empty netter.

Sauve stopped 33 shots in the loss, smashing the old Buckeye record for total saves in a single season. Lisa Steffes, the previous record holder, racked up 1,085 saves. Sauve is at 1,104 and counting. Then, having showcased her jaw-dropping defensive skills, the Whitby, Ontario native displayed her offensive prowess, picking up her first assist of the season.

Sauve will have the opportunity to add to her incredible save total tomorrow when Ohio State and North Dakota square off in a series-deciding Game 3. Opening faceoff is set for 3pm ET. The tilt can be streamed online via UND (for monies) or you can listen to the Fighting Hawks’ radio broadcast on KKXL 1440 AM.
