Ohio State hockey is once again among the honored ranks of the Big Ten and the NCAA. Buckeye representative Nick Schilkey was recognized by both bodies today for his outstanding contributions during the team’s split at Michigan. It is the third conference honor for Schilkey this season and his first national nod.

The OSU captain made a return to the Buckeye lineup last Friday after missing four games with an injury sustained against Arizona State. Schilkey picked right up where he left off, firing off six points. He chipped in a goal and two assists in Friday’s loss and another two goals and an assist in Saturday’s victory. His most spectacular point was the final one - a last minute, rally capping, game winning tally.

That goal was No. 20 on the season for Schilkey. It is a career high mark for the senior. It is also the most goals scored by a Buckeye since Ryan Dzingel posted 22 in 2013-14. Schilkey is averaging a mind-blowing, NCAA-leading 0.91 goals per game. It’s no wonder he’s long-listed for this year’s Hobey Baker Award. (Remember to cast your vote here.)

Schilkey and company are back in action this week when they host No. 5/4 Minnesota. The series concludes the season match up between the Buckeyes and Gophers. Games are currently scheduled for 8pm ET on both Friday and Saturday.

  • Sophomore Mason Jobst also racked up six points against Michigan for a season total of 37 points, bringing him into a tie for ninth in the NCAA.
  • After splitting with Michigan, Ohio State is No. 12 in the USCHO poll and No. 13 according to USA Today/USA Hockey.
  • The Buckeyes fell to No. 19 in the PairWise rankings, solidly out of an at large bid for the NCAA tournament.
  • Both of Saturday’s Buckeye hockey games (men’s and women’s) will feature the annual Teddy Toss so get your plastic-wrapped bears ready to go.
