Although we’re only one week into the 2016-17 hockey season Ohio State players are already being recognized for noteworthy accomplishments. When the WCHA released its first round of weekly awards today three Buckeyes merited a mention. Sophomore goalie Kassidy Sauve is the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.

week women's hockey honors
1 Kassidy Sauve, RS So., G - Winner WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
1 Maddy Field, So., F - Honorable Mention WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
1 Jincy Dunne, RS Fr., D - Honorable Mention WCHA Rookie of the Week

The Whitby, Ontario native was restored to the OSU net this year after injury cancelled her 2015-16 season. She made an immediate impact in her return, playing a huge role in the Bucks' season opening sweep of RPI. Sauve stopped 67 of the 68 shots she faced during the series. She was flawless in Saturday’s contest, turning aside every Engineers attempt and recording her seventh career shutout.

Two other Buckeyes, Maddy Field (2g, 1a) and Jincy Dunne (1g, 1 a), received honorable mentions for Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively. The Ohio State women’s hockey season continues this weekend when the Bucks go on the road to face the No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers.
