The second half of the season seems to agree with Buckeye goaltender Christian Frey. Since the holiday break the junior is 5-2-1 with a 1.73 goals against average and a .945 save percentage. His efforts have earned special recognition three times including this week's Third Star honor from Big Ten Hockey.

Frey's most recent accolade comes as a result of his outstanding work against Michigan State. The netminder chalked up 53 saves last week as Ohio State earned a series split with the Spartans. He was also a key part of the unbeaten Buckeye penalty kill which shut MSU down in all six of its power play attempts during the series.

The Arlington, Texas native is now tied for No. 13 in the NCAA in save percentage (.929) and ranks No. 25 in GAA (2.24). Frey has some extra time to bask in his starry glory. Ohio State has a bye this week. The Buckeyes return to action on February 12 when they host Minnesota.

  • For what it's worth, the NCAA's top 5 plays of the week allegedly include an Ohio State highlight. I cannot confirm that as the video refuses to play on any of my devices.
