Junior forward Nick Schilkey is Big Ten hockey’s second star of the week. The Michigan native was the prime offensive contributor in the Buckeyes’ split with Mercyhurst. He led the Bucks in shots in both games of the series, tickling the twine three times, once on Friday and twice on Saturday.

Schilkey also picked up an assist as part of the team’s outstanding power play unit. The Buckeyes’ points leader wasn’t afraid to get his skates dirty either. In addition to being an offensive force he recorded three blocked shots in the series. He was also instrumental in the penalty killers’ perfect 7-for-7 week. This is the first weekly honor of Schilkey’s collegiate career and the first nod for an Ohio State player this season.

He’ll have a little extra time to enjoy the accolades. The men’s hockey Bucks have a bye this week. They return to action next week, hosting Canisius. Those will be Ohio State’s last home games until mid-January.
