Buckeye freshman Lauren Boyle is your WCHA Rookie of the Week. The defender racked four assists in Ohio State’s sweep of Minnesota State. Three of those helpers came in Saturday’s victory, including the primary set up of the game winning goal.

5 Lauren Boyle, Fr. D Winner - Rookie of the Week
5 Claudia Kepler, Jr. F Honorable Mention - Offensive Player of the Week

Defensive prowess isn’t generally considered when awarding these weekly honors. However, it’s worth noting that Boyle also played a role in the defensive support that helped the Bucks to a 4-0 win and helped goaltender Alex LaMere to her first career shutout. Boyle was +3 for the series.

Junior Claudia Kepler earned an honorable mention for the conference’s offensive player of the week. The Verona, Wisconsin native notched two goals (one of which was Friday’s game winner) and an assist in the MSU series. That brings her season stat line to 4-2--6.

Ohio State has a bye this week. The lady Bucks return to the ice next week to host St. Cloud State. It will be the team’s only home series in November and the second to last home series before the holiday break.
