Women's hockey wrapped up their weekend and season series against Minnesota State this afternoon. The lady Bucks rolled to a 6-0 victory and make a clean sweep of their yearly tussle with the Mavericks.

Katie Matheny and Maggie Rothgery each netted a pair of goals in the win. Rothgery added a pair of assists. The four point outing was a career high for the junior from Elyria.

For the second consecutive game the Buckeyes enjoyed a strong opening period. Two quick strikes by Maggie Rothgery and Kendall Curtis put the Scarlet and Gray ahead 2-0 after the first twenty minutes.

OSU kept the pedal to the medal out of the intermission break. Less than a minute into the second period power play ninja Taylor Kuehl claimed another victim. The Minnetrista, MN native rang up her tenth goal of the year, eight of which have come with the man advantage. That’s the best mark in the conference and one shy of being tops in the nation.

The lady Bucks kept pouring on the offense. Freshman Katie Matheny lit the scoreboard up twice in just 16 seconds. Ohio State’s official record book does not appear to keep track of the team record for fastest two goals scored, but Matheny has to be right up there.

Kassidy Sauve started in net for the lady Bucks. The freshman netminder stopped all 14 Maverick shots to record her sixth shutout this year. She is now tied with former Buckeye Lisa Steffes for fourth most career goose eggs by an OSU goalie.

The Buckeyes stand pat in fifth place in the WCHA. Their closest competitors all picked up points last night. Bemidji State topped St. Cloud, Duluth took Wisconsin to a shootout, and North Dakota upset Minnesota. All three series conclude later today.

Next up for Ohio State is a showdown with No. 3 Wisconsin. The lady Bucks host the Badgers next Friday and Saturday in what will likely be their final home games of the 2014-15 season.
