The No. 17 hockey Buckeyes weren't able to overcome a slow start tonight and fell to the No. 11 Miami RedHawks by a final score of 5-1.

Miami put a stranglehold on the game early and never really let go. Ohio State spent much of the first period chasing the RedHawks. They struggled to get any sustained possession, let alone put pressure on Miami goalie Jay Williams.

Not surprisingly, chasing the RedHawks led to reaching fouls. The Buckeyes were penalized twice for holding in the first twelve minutes of the game. Miami made them pay each time. Riley Barber and Sean Kuraly lit the lamp quickly and efficiently.

Penalties continued to plague Ohio State. In addition to garden variety minors, defensemen Sam Jardine and Justin DaSilva were hit with majors and game misconducts. Both penalties were for contact to the head.

Miami would add another power play tally and a 4-on-4 goal. To add insult to injury Blake Coleman banked the RedHawks final goal in from behind the OSU net. The lone marker for the Buckeyes came from the stick of defenseman Drew Brevig. His power play one-timer found its way through a thicket of legs and beat Williams.

Undisciplined play, inability to control the puck or push Miami out of prime scoring areas, this was not a pretty game for Ohio State. The Buckeyes will try to turn things around in Oxford tomorrow night.

Buckeye Women Defeat Bemidji State

The lady Bucks snapped their losing skid this evening with a 5-1 victory over the Beavers. Julia McKinnon recorded a hat trick. Kendall Curtis notched a pair of goals. Ohio State and Bemidji meet again tomorrow at 12pm at the OSU Ice Rink.
