Twitter Reactions: Heroes After Half Time

The arrogance and childishness of being disappointed in what is still essentially perfection is something that I've tried to avoid now for night on six games. I know in my head that it's really dumb to be angry that the 2015 Ohio State football season has been anything less than a 24/7 bacchanalian orgy of points and touchdowns and Urban Meyer giggling into his playsheet and Braxton Miller doing a tapdance on the scattered corpses of defensive backs. And so far, a big fat zero in the loss column has prevented anything like real anger to rise upward like so much Buckeye bile in my be-knotted stomach.

But I think at this point I'm allowed to be a little disappointed. Not so much in the individual performances of guys like Zeke and Braxton and even Cardale, which have been mostly fine in the past few games, but more because it feels like six games into the season the coaching staff is still throwing spaghetti at the fridge to see what sticks.

To be fair, some of it did manage to stick against Maryland. Playing J.T. in the red zone paid dividends far beyond what any sane mortal could've expected, especially for a team that had one of the worst offenses inside the 20 of any team in the country. Urban and company also managed to get Braxton much more involved in the offense, and he displayed his characteristic ball so hard-ness in more than a few plays. This was especially timely because Randy Edsall got serious about this whole coaching thing this week and managed to keep the Silver Bullets on their heels for much of the game. As of 6:19 p.m. I've seen somewhere around zero tweets from defensive players (except for Adolphus Washington, who retweeted about 16,000 people after the game) and that could be due to having rich social lives that don't involve the internet, or maybe the 253 rushing yards Maryland tallied.

Either way, it seems like every Ohio State win this year has been tinged with some kind of disappointment. But that's life, and as we're gonna see at the end of this post, the Buckeyes have some things coming up that should turn whatever potential frown you might be sporting upside down (provided you aren't a contrarian wiener).

Oh, and it was Homecoming! Personally, I kind of enjoy the idea of an anachronistic celebration of the popular kids in a college setting, if only to increase the likelihood of a giant Animal House-style riot. But, since modern college Homecoming events are boring as hell (and I definitely can't remember the last time anyone at Ohio State went all in for it), let's just get right to those tasty football tweets.

I've been on the Adolphus bandwagon for a while now, and I'm pretty excited to see the big guy get his time in the sun. The defense as a whole didn't have a great game, but the d-line sure as hell did.

I'm a little ashamed to admit that it took me about 20 seconds to get this joke. To be fair, I really only recognize one college football turtle, and he is made of wood and Tim Beckman's tears.

Still, there was a game to be played, and my general takeaway is this: I've stopped trying to wring out some small puddle of logic out of what the Ohio State Buckeyes are doing from week to week. If Urban Meyer wants to run a cold J.T. Barrett out there in red zone situations, fine. If Chris Ash thinks the best way to defend the spread is to have Sam Hubbard drop back in zone coverage, go for it. If we decide to just scrap the placekicking game entirely, that sounds awesome.

All I know is that whatever insane potluck nonsense they're throwing out there is working, kinda. It's ugly and annoying and could probably be better, but eh:

Damn straight. Taxslayer.com Bowl here we come.

Plus, some familiar faces has very good games, and it's hard to be completely annoyed about that.

Thomas and Zeke were everywhere Saturday, and while Elliott didn't have the monster stats that a lot of us would like to see from him, his blocking, pass catching, and all around hustle makes him an absolutely crucial part of the team. And of course a shout out to Mike, who went for over 100 yards on just seven grabs, beating out the Terrapins top three receivers all by his lonesome.

Other good things happened! Brutus Buckeye celebrated his 50th birthday in style!

Dontre Wilson got very zen!

Joey Burrow smelled a smell!

And Jordan Hall made a somewhat unrealistic prediction!

One final thought. Next week, Ohio State is doing something it hasn't done before. It has the potential to be very, very cool and good. If you are the type of person who doesn't like things that are cool and good, then by all means, sit at home in the dark with your arms crossed and a big pouty frown on your face. You will not be missed.

But for those of you that do enjoy fun, and being loud, and secretly pretending to be Johnny Cash (even if it's just for a second), let's make next week special. Especially if it's to stick it to Penn State.
