Ohio State — save for one night in early September — dominated the 2014 campaign en route to the school's eighth championship.

Football oracle Phil Steele broke down every team's percentage of plays played from winning, tied, and losing positions during the 2014 campaign. Plot twist: The Buckeyes finished near the top.

For the record: The Buckeyes' 2014 offense compiled 1,099 plays, 11,641 yards, and 83 touchdowns.

Winning Position
PLAYS YARDS TDS
69.2% 68.3% 65.1%

Baylor led the country with a whopping 76.7% of its plays coming from a winning position. Louisiana Tech's 76.7% led the nation's yardage mark and its 72.6% TD rating also set the nation's curve.

Back to Ohio State, though:

TIED POSITION
PLAYS YARDS TDS
12.4% 15.3% 18.1%
LOSING POSITION
PLAYS YARDS TDs
18.5% 16.5% 16.9%

Looking over these numbers, it's easy to see why Houston leapt at the opportunity to hire Tom Herman.
