Aaron Pettrey's Right Leg Won Cleveland a Playoff Game Last Night

The Cleveland Gladiators waltzed through the regular season with a 17-1 record. As such, they secured the No. 1 seed in the Arena Football League playoffs.

But because CLEVELAND, the Gladiators were on the verge of a 37-36 first-round, home field loss to the Philadelphia Soul.

However, with only seconds remaining in the game, the Gladiators summoned former Ohio State Aaron Pettrey to attempt a game-winning, 37-yard field goal. Because OHIO STATE KICKER, you know what happened next.

If the Gladiators continue to win (they play the winner of today's Orlando-Pittsburgh matchup), they'll continue to play at home (including the championship game).

If one of those voices sound familiar, it should. It belongs to former Ohio State national title-winner, Dustin Fox.

This is great, though I don't think anyone's soul has ever been crushed over an AFL game

You obviously weren't there in New Orleans on July 29, 2007

Does anyone know if BucksFan changed his icon?

You could have said any city on earth, and any date, and I would have believed there was an arena league game possible

+1...I'm not an Arena Football fan, but I still can feel your pain. I'm 41 we all know my pains and the joy I experienced in 2002 from our Buckeyes. Besides that though, I went from 1982-2001 without any championships in any major sports. I know that is nothing to the fans of the Chicago fans but "Nothing surprises me more than how almost an entire city gets up each and every year to gather around and support their perennial loser". Being that I have family from all over, I have many different city's teams that I follow. I only follow one team in each sport and NEVER have I changed my favorite teams. That's why I'm a fan of both the New York Knicks and the New England Pats. Anyway though...I did end up getting 3 Super Bowls in 4 seasons out of the Pats and a couple of Titles from my Cards since 2002, I had to go through miserable times before 2001. My Knicks could never beat Michael Jordan and couldn't beat Hakeem when Jordan left. That was YEARS of feeling like your team was 2nd best. My Cards were awful for the longest time, and my Patriots before 2001 were constantly in the cellar almost never sniffing the playoffs after getting killed by the Bears in 1985. I've always followed the Boston Bruins (family thing) but became a fan of all hockey teams once Florida was blessed with 2 of them and the Blue Jackets were brought to us. My point is simply that I've seen my share of heartbreak. I thank God sometimes that I wasn't JUST a basketball fan. Imagine watching the Knicks hold teams to under 85 points every night, win their division, only to lose to Chicago every year.

Anyway...I looked up the date, saw the points and how they happened and I'm just hoping that you didn't go to the game. You deserve a helmet sticker, but you deserve 10 if you went to New Orleans for that game. Sorry....If it is worth anything to ya....you've made a friend now because after what I saw, I'm now a fan of Arena Football and I thank you for turning me on to it. Thanks.

I was a Destroyers season ticket holder every year they were in Columbus. I remember July 29th very well, and can't get rid of the heartbreak I suffered the day they lost to SJ. The run to the ArenaBowl was amazing...they werent supposed to be playing in the Arenabowl to begin with..I wish we would get another team...I used to love Arenafootball (just as much as the NFL)...but due to the lack of television exposure it has been hard to keep up with the league.

It's their team name.....

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.  1 Corinthians 9:24

Sorry about that. Here's a sticker, don't spend it all in one place!

I used to get the entire bar pissy at me (this was years ago at a place here in Orlando) on every NFL Sunday. The reason is really that I scream loud and extra loud for my beloved Buckeyes. My last memory of this bar that was very close to UCF and was very, very popular on NCAA Saturdays and NFL Sundays was when I jumped up and screamed "Touchdown, Buckeyes" during an Oakland Raiders game. This was probably around 1999 on a Sunday and since Rickey Dudley caught the TD pass against a guy that was a fan of the team Oakland was playing against, a fight between myself and the fat dude ensued. I can only imagine how excited I'd have been if I had seen Pettrey kick that ball through the uprights. While I was born in Ohio but am fans of just the Buckeyes when it comes to Ohio's professional teams (I do follow the Blue Jackets, though...but it is new to me) I seem to be by myself with most of you here following Cleveland and Cincinnati teams (I'm from very close to Cincinnati) and I apologize for that. I moved to Florida when I was 8 bringing just Ohio State gear with me from Dayton. But....after our Buckeyes are done in college I root them on more than I do any pro teams really...I just like the college games better....Go Buckeyes, even their underwater basket weaving team!!!!

The Gladiators are 17-1? Why is America not talking about this team?

Because this is arena football, perhaps

Jason, because Arena League. (I wish they would get more national exposure, its fun as hell and very inexpensive compared to Indians/Browns/Cavs tickets, with cheap seats around $15 I believe.)

For what its worth, There was a guy in the row behind us that was jawing back and forth with one of the Philly DBs from time to time throughout the game. He asks me if our kicker is a good kicker, and my response was: "He's a Buckeye, hell yeah he is a good kicker!" also about 2 plays before the game winning kick Aaron was warming up right by where I was and I yelled Pettrey! He looks up, and I go "O-H!" and he responds with "I-O" hand signals.

Dustin Fox was doing some of the commentary in the video, and Matt Wilhelm was involved with the pregame ceremony as well. For Cleveland, it was a successful Buckeye evening!

Since you were there... That Philadelphia DB who had 4 INT's yesterday, Rayshaun Kizer, is from none other than the great state of Ohio. From Euclid and went to Walsh.

I watched it live (lowest of low key Saturday nights..) and it was awesome. Extra points had been missed all night by both teams so I was nervous, but Pettrey stepped in and nailed the game winner.

What AFL team did Joe Germaine play for ?

If you will it dude, it is no dream

The Arizona Rattlers and Utah Blaze. He currently lives near the Rattlers and occasionally does some work with them.

Nice info, as a cowboys fan i used to watch the rattlers because Danny White was there coach.

Danny is definitely a legacy around there. I'm not sure why, but unfortunately he and the organization don't really have anything to do with each other anymore (not saying there was a falling out, as I know nothing on the situation).
