Kenny Guiton Fails to Earn Contract with Buffalo Bills

By DJ Byrnes on May 20, 2014 at 10:47a

Last week, Kenny Guiton earned an invite to the Buffalo Bills' rookie mini-camp on a try-out basis. The Smooth Sensation, a career Ohio State backup but a legend nonetheless, was one of four try-out players competing for a spot on the Bills' 90-man roster.

Today, the Bills announced they were filling the open slot with former East Central University wideout, Caleb Holley.

According to ESPN's Mike Rodak, Guiton struggled with "accuracy and consistency" at the Bills' camp. There's even speculation the Bills never intended to sign Guiton, but simply needed a quarterback for their minicamp.

It's unclear where this leaves Guiton's NFL dreams, as his agent admitted before the Bills' invite calls from NFL teams were "minimal." There's always the Canadian Football League... but this could also clear the way for Guiton's eventual return to Columbus as a graduate assistant.

Your loss is our gain.

I believe the SEC players put their pants on one leg at a time like we do.

Struggled with "accuracy and consistency" or excelled at "being awesome"? I wasn't at the mini-camp, but I'm guessing it's the latter.

It's your loss, Buffalo! YOUR loss!

Tough for Kenny, but would welcome him home anytime he was ready!! Leadership and Motivation strike me as two traits we can always use more of.

I hope the day comes where they regret this as he comes off someone's bench to torch the Bill's secondary.

I'm torn as a Bills fan I really wanted to see him replace Tuel as the 3rd QB, that being said this kid is going to help the program in some way when/if he comes its coaching, recruiting or both I don't know but I just know he will

Also I wonder if it was weird throwing to the guy that lit you up in your last college game.....that had to be kinda strange

Kenny did not fail to earn a contract, the Bills failed to offer him one.  Mark my words, this will be the downfall of this proud and successful franch....oh, never mind.

Have you tried Not Your Father's Root Beer?  It tastes just like the real thing, but it packs a punch (5.9%ABV).  It's a little sweet for me though.  Two is my limit.

I put my two cents in with the Texans, again. Hopefully they don't get beat to the punch again. Time to start making a pay check, man and you don't wanna pay all those New York taxes anyway. Come back to Texas and you'll only pay federal taxes and property taxes.

And then I told her...i'm no weatherman, but tonight's forecast is calling for several inches!

I'll take it though, compared to when I lived up north. Cost of living, New homes, fuel every time I fill up, groceries, not ever having to heat my home (quality home should never have over a hundred dollar heating or cooling bill if 3,000 sq ft). I live in PA 2 weeks at a time. Man, I just returned and gas was :3.75 a gallon! I can do diesel for 20 cents less per gallon than gas in TX. Gas is over 40 cents per gallon cheaper. I have 3 cars I've restored, all Texas cars. All about 50 years old and each have less rust that my Expidition I've had in PA for 3 years and have less rattles from being on qualify roads.

Absolutely. Of all the country and all the states I lived and worked in, the hill country is my favorite. Most people say the Pacific Northwest but I say hogwash to that. It's got winters you can't even get in the rivers and lakes for half of the year. And geesh if it ain't expensive up there. And don't get me started on the "Wussification of America,"  tree huggers up there.

Buffalo has a pro football team?

Or is Kenny G a closet hockey phenom as well trying out for the Sabres?

As much as I love Kenny, he's just not an NFL QB. He doesn't have the physical talent. He'll make a great GA at Ohio State, though, so come on down, KG!

+6 HS
BrewstersMillions's picture

Yep. Too slight, lacks arm strength and even is accuracy isn't great-by NFL standards. I do know this-there isn't a single guy I can remember looking at while he played at OSU and thought "There's a future coach". Kenny is the only guy I can recall saying that about. Dude is going to be fine, just maybe not in the NFL.

Kenny will land on his feet.  Whether its in the NFL, coaching, or on a stage making sweet smooth jazz...

The only reason i can think of for this is that he purposely tanked because who the hell wants to live in Buffalo?

FUCK FRANK REICH,  I was living in H Town until I was 15 or so, and that happens to be my worst memory of any sporting event ever!!!!!! Warren Moon deserved better!!!! And that dude clearly stepped out of bounds!!!! CLEARLY!!!! It was the only time I actually cried over a lost game, although I have been close a few other times. But that seriously messed with my young developing mind. I still slap babies and puppies if present when the memory returns. J/K ,,, CLEARLY!!!! But Seriously!!!

Coach will be better off with a headset on walking the sidelines as a GA with the Buckeyes. At least he tried and should keep the door open.

You can't judge a Kenny G simply by a tryout.

Get him on the roster. Wait until the 4th quarter of your first pre-season game. Be amazed.

I'll never argue if he has the physical tools. He probably doesn't. His true magic lies in the execution.

Can he please spend 100% of his time teaching Braxton how to make the proper read on the read-option? I'm fairly certain Kenny G never made a bad read, and Braxton isn't nearly as consistent.

All I gots to say...instead of Kenny will be Kenny GA.  Come on home Kenny.

Look, he was a career backup.  It would've been EXTRAORDINARY if he made even a 90-man roster, let alone was still on an NFL roster after the pre-season.  He was great for what he did here at OSU and won't soon be forgotten.  Maybe starting as a GA at OSU is the way to go.  Or he can find work in his field of study.  He'll do well regardless.

Bring him in as a GA and let him work with the QBs on read plays. I always thought he was very effective running read plays even tho he wasn't extremely athletic. This young man could work his way up the coaching ladder over the next 30 years.

Buckeye1004's picture

Let me get this straight.  They invite him....he throws over 140 passes a day for 3 straight days....everyone talks about the amount of work he got because he was the ONLY QB they say he lacks consistency and accuracy.  On the Buffalo Bill website, their coach shakes his head while saying he was impressive and threw a lot of balls.  I think that Mike Rodak is a D-Bag and should be put into the same category as Mark "I hate Ohio State" May!

Buffalo early on also said that they were evaluating a couple of these players for what if scenarios.  I believe they have 4 or 5 QB's on the roster.  So I'm guessing Kenny G was one of the what if guys.  And it sounds like he did just fine in his tryout.  Now he just needs to wait for Buffalo to suck with a couple different guys and then he will get the call.  (I am being optimistic here!  There's nothing wrong with that)
